It’s that time of year again when Australia’s Music industry celebrate this years best. So the question remains, whose going to be this years big winners.. and losers?

Jessica Mauboy

Jessica Mauboy has had a stellar year with her debut album Been Waiting and tops the list with 7 nominations, including breakthrough artist single with Running Back ft Flo Rida, Break through artist album, best female artist, highest selling album as well as highest earning single with Running Back and Burn.

LadyHawke

Many have already predicted that Jessica Mauboy will scoop tonight’s awards but she will have stiff competition when she comes up against New Zealand export LadyHawke. Nominated for five awards her catchy single My Delirium has been nominated for both single of the year and break through single of the year. Ladyhawke’s retro pop album of the same name has also been nominated for best pop release and break through Artist Album.

Female artist have dominated this years Australian Music scene with the likes of Sarah Blasko and Kate Miller-Heidki rounding out this years nominations list.

Melbourne group the Temper Trap burst on to the scene earlier this year with their song Sweet Disposition (500 Days of Summer Trailer) and followed up with equally brilliant single  The Science of Fear ( east West 101 promo) of their Conditions Album. Nominated for best Rock album the Temper Trap will be up against music rock legends AC/DC, Jet and Eskimo Joe.

The unique sound and collaboration of Nick Littlemore from Pnau and Luke Steel of the Sleep Jacksons brought us music gems like Walking on a Dream and We are the People. However only a couple of months ago Nick Littlemore walked away from the group leaving Luke Steel perform in a one man band. Empire of the Sun have been nominated for best group and despite recent dramas the nomination in this category will stand.

With a whopping 7 nominations its hard to go past Jess Mauboy for female artist of the year. She wont stop there also short prized favorite to pick up  break out single for Running Back and best pop release for Been Waiting.

My predictions for the big awards including single of the year is Empire of the Sun, Walking on a Dream and album of the year Empire of the Sun, Walking on a Dream.

We at DeadBeatz embrace music from all corners of the globe, but recently the music that is being produced from this island deserves special recognition. Yes, if you haven’t already guessed its ‘The Land Down Under’! For many generations Australia has been producing world class acts like ACDC, INSX, Powderfinger, Midnight Oil, (the list goes on…) to today’s contemporary bands like Hilltop Hoods, Pnau, The Presets, Empire of the Sun, Wolfmother, (ok I’m getting sick of typing bands, you get the picture!). If you haven’t been living under a rock for the last 60 years you would have heard at least one of these bands (if not all!). Though it’s not just the big names that this continent is known for in the international industry, it’s the local talent that drives the countries musical ambition.

There is one national radio station that has made it their business for discovering new music, and has continued to do so for over 30 years. So far they have revealed over 100 artists from all over the country and launched the careers of artists like Missy Higgins, Killing Heidi and Grinspoon. Due to their new website called Triple J Unearthed, this ‘unearthing’ has accelerated, with bands featuring their songs and profiles for the public to enjoy. Below are a few of our favourite songs that we have chosen.

Walter Sobcek released a new remix to Ladyhawke’s Delerium.  This track just doesn’t get old.  Sobcek’s edit is based on soft melodies all while tossing in Ladyhawke’s unique and distinctive vocals.  The two make a beautiful combo together.

The second remix is by far my favourite Ladyhawke remix ever.  It was pulled from the archives so its not new by any means.  Fred Falke and Miami Horror do wonders for this remix.  It is a perfect blend of signature synth from Falke, amazing originality by Miami Horror, and effortless vocals by Ladyhawke to tie it all together beautifully.

Even though Bag Riders video is 80ths inspired the track is fresh and while searching for it I found a nice bootleg, mixing Shooting Stars with Pnau’s lovley Baby. Watch and enjoy the two first videos and get your feet warm for the night  with the third one, which isn’t too much to look at…

”Pnau” es el último álbum de Pnau ( Otro grupo con poca gracia para los nombres). Este dúo Australiano ha entrado con mucha fuerza , su alegre electropop es extremadamente pegadizo y además cuenta con la colaboración de Ladyhawke en el tema de ”Embrace”. Es sin duda un material 100% recomendable, con un sonido sin apellidos, apetecible, tanto pueden dar guitarrazos como abusar de sintetizadores y loops, y eso, nos mola.

Empire of The Sun é uma banda australiana composta por Luke Steele (da banda Sleepy Jackson) e Nick Littlemore (da dupla PNAU), e dona de um eletropop que há muito não se via. Seu álbum de estréia, Walking on a Dream, despertou a atenção da crítica especializada devido à seu estilo extravagante e à sua sonoridade, que lembra muito o MGMT (porém, musicalmente nem se parecem tanto).

O álbum em si é viciante, com uma perfeita sincronização de pop, psicodélicojungle e synthpop, em que há soltura do sublime, sendo que além de cada música ser alucinante a seu próprio modo, é repleta de frases de impacto, reconfortante e agradável.

Tanto o primeiro videoclipe de EOTS – Walking on a Dream, música ficou no topo de várias rádios ao redor do mundo e também na lista das 10 mais do iTunes -, como o segundo – We Are the People – é nitidamente inspirada em Star Wars, e está perto de impérios que foram reduzidos a pó (o primeiro foi filmado em Shangai - China, o segundo no México).

Uma vez que Luke e Nick apostaram no visual vale muito a pena conferir também os clipes de Without You e Eclipse Broadcast, neste último é impossível não perceber a influência que Star Wars tem na banda.

Miami Horror, both the alias of DJ Benjamin Plant and the name of the newly formed live band, is an electro-pop act out of Melbourne, Australia that sprung from house-party and weekly night-club performances. Plant, the band’s original brainchild and producer, first made noise DJ-ing distinguished international events as well as remixing for such notable names as the Presets and Stardust. In 2008 the band came out with the EP ‘Bravado’, which featured blog hits ‘Make You Mine’ and ‘Don’t Be On With Her’ that offered a fresh sound wrapped in synthetic twang. Now, after a few years work, they’re almost ready to release their debut album.

Featuring the instant-fav single, ‘Sometimes’, which arrived only a few weeks ago, the album is set for January 2010 and is said to include many tracks inspired by work Plant had done at as far back as age 18 (he’s 22 now). I’m more than anxious to see what these guys do. Below are a few tracks and remixes ripe for the download; every one of them is fantastic, so don’t hold back. Check out the music video also, it’s a sweet take on the spacey synths and bells of the new single, given direction by beats full of pop and pull that might just put Miami Horror at the top of your list in the disco-house scene. enjoy

Los tickets ya estan a la venta y los puedes comprar a través de SuperBoletos o en Puntos de Venta. La mecánica para comprarlos está así:

La preventa de los primeros 5 mil boletos tendrán un costo de $800 pesos desde el Viernes 11 de Septiembre hasta el Domingo 20 Septiembre o agotarse.

La segunda preventa de los siguientes 4 mil boletos costarán $950 pesos hasta el Domingo 18 de Octubre o agotarse.

Otros 4 mil boletos más costarán $1,100 hasta el Domingo 15 de Noviembre o agotarse.

Checked it out with the crew on Saturday night. Liked the place. Cool vibe, good looking people and nice decor. One downfall was that the music wasn’t loud enough, but then again it is a bar not a nightclub. However, the dancefloor was rockin’ and I didn’t feel old there so that’s a mega plus. Pnau and Empire of the Sun headed down after Parklife and played a bit of a set @BARBARA. Then the party continued at the owner’s house with a private set in the lounge room. Noice.

The music industry loves jelly – and vice versa! Which is always nice to hear! Steve Scott’s latest work is for the PNAU’s self-titled album. We’re glad to see he’s supporting his Aussie roots all the way!

Australia’s Pnau has been around for a pretty long time. But it wasn’t really until MGMT came around that PNAU started to sound exactly like them. For that I will not fault them. I care not about the legitimacy of the artistry but only about the quality of pop jams they can produce. Let me mention that I am certainly not the first to bring this up. Pretty much any youtube video or forum post about the group eventually devolves into the MGMT discussion. Like MGMT, Pnau is hit and miss. But when they hit, they hit. Check out Breakbot remix for “Baby” as well as “With You Forever” below. The vocals on “Forever” are especially MGMT. You can find them on myspace here.

The Whip es una banda de Manchester, Inglaterra. Herederos de la combinación entre pop y electrónica surgida en Manchester hace muchos años, The Whip insiste que ambos géneros pueden entrelazarse con una facilidad sorprendente.  Muchos críticos los etiquetan como “New Ravers” esto debido a su música bailable y sus coloridas vestimentas, sin embargo ellos se consideran un grupo pop bailable con sucias guitarras. Pero mas bien les paso una rola para que los escuchen.

Does It Offend You, Yeah? es una banda de Electro Rock de Reading, Inglaterra, se dieron a conocer al igual que The Whip gracias a las Kitsune Maison Compilations con el sencillo Let’s Make Out que aparece en la recopilación no. 5. Por desgracia no tengo rolas pero si les rolo un video de una de sus rolas que me gusta mucho, hay vean que show.

Pues hoy inicia bien la semana con los ultimos actos internacionales para el Sonofilia 2009, el primero de ellos es el dueto australiano PNAU quienes ya tienen un rato dentro de la escena electronica de aquel pais y que poco a poco se han ido ganando adeptos sobretodo por su musica y sus colaboraciones con otros artistas de igual prestigio. Ellos vienen presentando su placa homonima del 2007 y quizas muchos remixes de sus anteriores discos.

Por si fuera poco las sorpresas no terminan y minutos despues el festival confirma la presencia de mas ni menos que de HERCULES AND LOVE AFFAIR el grupo Neoyorkino que el año pasado dio de que hablar con excelentes temas como “Blind” y “You Belong” se presentara tambien en esta edicion del festival. Cabe recordar que Kim Ann Foxman vino hace poco a la ciudad en su faceta de DJ y no le fue tan mal, aunque muchos se quedaron con escuchar versiones del disco homonimo de la banda ahora en el festival sera cuando tengan esa oportunidad. Y si muchos se preguntan si Antony Hegarty viene con ellos lamentablemente la respuesta es NO porque el solo colaboro en el disco y no es parte de los actos en vivos (a menos que Sonofilia nos quiera dar la sorpresa).

En pocas palabras es una buena noticia para todos los que quieren ir al festival y no encontraban un grupo por el cual ir. Pues ahora son un total de 12 los actos internacionales en este festival y todos de gran calidad.

En otras noticias ya este viernes 11 es el concierto de el grupo Danes MEW , los boletos aun -creo- hay en taquilla y en ticketmaster. recuerden que cuestan 390 pesos en preventa y el dia del evento en 450pesos, asi que no pueden dejar pasar esta oportunidad unica. Ellos vienen presentando su ultima placa No More Stories… y se presentaran en el Teatro Estudio Cavaret.

They are not only famous for their great music, but also for their great style and music videos.

For your pleasure har jag satt ihop fyra playlists att fylla helgen med. Först ut har vi The Bloody Beetroots. Den italienska duon som släpper sitt första album i nästa vecka. Lyssna speciellt på Who are you? och remixen på Goose – Black gloves om ni inte redan hört dem. Lyssningen sker här.

Sedan kör vi vidare med Fake Blood, killen som gjort Little Boots stuck on repeat en stor tjänst. Lyckades även hitta hans nya remix på Calvin Harris – Ready for the weekend. Pop it!

Och så årets mest remixade grupp, tidigare nämnda La Roux med 26(!) mixar på låtar från fullängdaren, mest bulletproof, in for the kill och quicksand. Nacey-mixen har jag redan hypat lite men i övrigt är faktiskt allting bra. Från högt till lågt, snabbt till långsamt, clash till dupstep. Skream-mixen är väl den som hypats mest i övrigt, kika in!

Sist ut är fred falke, snubben som varit och tallat på i princip allt och som inte verkar kunna göra några fel. Favoriten här är mixen på Pnau ft Ladyhawke – Embrace som gick varm hela förra sommaren. Lite daterad i hype-mått mätt men lika bra för det. Missa inte!

Alright, I feel like this happens to me more than I would think that it should.  Usually when I’m at home I like to put my iTunes on shuffle, it’s really the only way to find things that I haven’t listened to in a while.  So, The Sleepy Jackson came up and got me wondering what the Perth, Australia group had been up to.  Well, if I would have been paying attention, I would have noticed that Sleepy Jackson frontman Luke Steele is 1/2 of the Empire Of The Sun duo, Nick Littlemore being the other.  After re-listening to the album it’s completely obvious… Nick Littlemore is also a member of Pnau and Teenager, Teenager consists of Nick and Pip Brown (aka Ladyhawke)..  Below are a couple of tracks from The Sleepy Jackson’s 2006 release One Was A Spider, One Was A Bird and a weird ass video for Teenager’s track titled “Pony” off of their recent release Thirteen.
