Disney se pregăteşte să readucă magia poveştilor clasice pe marile ecrane! The Princess and the Frog, care va fi lansat în curând, spune povestea Taniei, o tânără afro-americană care se îndrăgosteşte de un prinţ transformat în broască. Totodată, este şi prima prinţesă de culoare din istoria Disney.

10. Albă ca Zăpada – Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
A fost primul lungmetraj de animaţie color şi cu sunet produs de Walt Disney şi este unul dintre cele mai populare filme de animaţie, chiar şi acum la 72 de ani de la lansare. De altfel, Albă ca Zăpada poate fi numită şi cea mai “bătrână” prinţesă Disney.

9. Esmeralda – Cocoşatul de la Notre Dame
Quasimodo, un clopotar cocoşat şi cu o înfăţişare grotescă, se împrieteneşte cu Esmeralda, o frumoasă ţigancă dansatoare. Prin vocea ei, Demi Moore îi dă viaţă Esmeraldei, un personaj care îl va ajuta pe Quasimodo să îşi găsească frumuseţea interioară, în ciuda urâţeniei fizice. O tânără neînfricată cu ochi verzi care luptă şi pentru drepturile ţiganilor.

8. Mulan – Neînfricata Mulan
Filmul are la bază legenda chinezească a lui Hua Mulan. Este o tânără extrem de curajoasă care luptă pentru a-şi salva tatăl şi de aceea se înrolează clandestin în armată în locul lui. Surpriza vine atunci când Mulan devine cel mai mare erou al Chinei. Mulan ajunge şi mândria familiei. Este una dintre cele mai războinice prinţese Dianey.

7. Tinker Bell – Tinker Bell
Este unul dintre cele mai cunoscute personaje ale desenelor animate produse de Disney. Tinker Bell, zâna din Peter Pan, a fost desemnată recent “Ambasador Onorific al Mediului”. I-a fost acordat acest titlu pentru că Tinker Bell trăieşte în armonie cu mediul şi popularitatea ei joacă un rol cheie în educaţia copiilor.

6. Pocahontas – Pocahontas
O poveste emoţionantă despre puterea curajului şi a prieteniei. Este prima animaţie Disney inspirată de un personaj atestat istoric, care se împleteste cu legende şi credinţe din folclorul indienilor americani. Şeful de trib Powhatan decide să-şi dea fiica unuia din cei mai puternici războinici ai tribului. Spirit liber, Pocahontas se împotriveşte. Devine cu adevărat fericită atunci când îl întâlneşte pe Căpitanul Jon Smith.

5. Sleeping Beauty - Frumoasa adormită
Una dintre cele mai romantice producţii Disney. O zână rea aruncă asupra unei prinţese un blestem cumplit care poate fi anulat doar de un prinţ. Sărutul miraculos care o readuce la viaţă pe Frumoasa Adormită.

4. Cinderella – Cenuşăreasa
Personajul principal este o fată tânără ce are o viaţă foarte grea alături de mama şi surorile vitrege. Viaţa ei se schimbă când merge la balul de la Palat, unde îl întâlneşte pe Prinţ şi îi cucereşte inima.

3. Jasmine – Aladdin
Jasmine, fiica unui sultan, are la dispoziţie trei zile să-şi găsească un soţ. Ea fuge de acasă şi îl întâlneşte pe Aladdin, de care se îndrăgosteşte. Punctul central al romantismului în acest film de animaţie este covorul zburător.

2. Belle – Frumoasa şi Bestia
Frumoasa este o fată nemulţumită de viaţa ei dintr-un orăşel provincial al Franţei. Bestia este un prinţ tranformat într-un animal fioros printr-o vrajă pentru că nu putea să iubescă. Pentru a rupe vraja, Bestia trebuie să-i câştige dragostea frumoasei fete, altfel riscă să rămână aşa pentru totdeauna.

1. Ariel – Mica Sirenă
Ariel este fiica regelui Triton şi este foarte nefericită cu viaţa ei de pe fundul mării. Ea este fascinată de fiinţele umane şi şi-ar dori să trăiască printre ele. Pentru a-şi îndeplini dorinţa apelează la fioroasa Ursula, vrăjitoarea mării.

Like Thanksgiving’s food leftovers, there are also Thanksgiving blog post leftovers such as this one. I know that since Thanksgiving only lasts for one day, that there isn’t the need for a second post about this great food-based holiday. But we are so used to the idea of leftovers, so why not give it another go-around?

I think a lot of people get Thanksgiving all wrong. It’s not really a holiday that lasts just one day. With Thanksgiving usually comes days of eating and days of leftovers. We all know that Thanksgiving is on a Thursday, but does anyone know why? I say Thanksgiving should be declared a two-day holiday for a few reasons.

First of all, then knobody has to fret about going back to school or work for one day left of the week. Most everyone travels for Thanksgiving and it would just be a whole lot easier if we all just got the next day off, as well. But also, Thanksgiving should last two days, to celebrate all of the leftovers that seem to be inevitable. We need an extra day just for the Thanksgiving meal’s leftovers. We should have the day to be extra thankful for our abundance.

To celebrate this idea of making Thanksgiving a National two-day holiday, I am bringing you a fantastic (almost) Thanksgiving-themed song. (This would be the song of the week, if I actually had the song stuck in my head, but instead, I’ve really just had one segment stuck in my head 1:41-the end.)

Before fashion week starts,  anticipation levels are high. But when your favorite designer releases a new collection, it’s your chance to observe and conjure ideas for your own wardrobe. There’s nothing more liberating than being a leader, and starting a trend. Fashion designers can be that much needed guide to give you that extra needed little push. There were an abundance of trends in the spring/summer 2010 fashion weeks, but Rouz Daily picked the ones worth noting.

Set 1. If you feel your wardrobe needs some inspiration, consider the theory of perspectival illusionism. Trompe l’oeil (trick the eye) is an old baroque method that’s making a comeback in fashion this spring.  Hiroko Koshino, Caroline Charles, and Iodice have all adapted the technique in their spring/summer 2010 collections creating soft, playful, fascinating minimalist dresses. But because the look creates a dramatic effect, accessories are best kept to a minimum.

Set 2. Practical and roomy, breeches are a must-wear item for 2010. Replacing the harem pant, the breech is refined fashion emblem going back to the 1920s. Whether worn in tradition beige (RM by Roland Mouret), bright neon (Salvatore Ferragamo)or Spanish inspired (Falguni & Shane Peacock), there’s no correct way to wear them, it’s just fashionable to have them.

Set 3. Don’t believe the stereotype, grey is not a gloomy colour. Fashion Editor Christine Centener of Harper’s Bazaar Australia wears it exquisitely, and she was the inspiration behind me selecting this trend. Designers Wayne, Fin and Yigal Azrouël know not to underestimate the power of the monochromatic hue. Grey can be accentuated with loud shoes, the bag and accessories, or be left simple and it’s still guaranteed to illicit a chic effect.

Set 4. It started in 1607 as a single turkey-plume headpiece for Pocahontas, the temptress to Captain John Smith. Now it’s been extended to shoes and particularly – dresses. The Feather Hem Dress is dainty and ravishing. And designers such as Roksanda Ilincic, Giambattista Valli and Naeem Khan are relishing in the ruffle of features this spring.

Set 5. Victoria Beckham spearheaded a movement in the fashion industry. Her ingenuity for sharp edges, cleans lines and short bouffant skirts had designers including Dennis Basso, Elie Saab and Elise Overland fleeing to the drawing board to emulate her look for their collections.

Set 6. Caped-sleeves personify that 1930s movie star whose fashion eloquence we all craved. Designers Eva and Delia, threeASFOUR and Erin Fetherston are utilizing the look and as you can see, it’s produced successful results. Bring out your inner Carole Lombard and Joan Crawford with a cape-sleeved coat. Match it with some long leather gloves and fedora to complete the look.

Well, let me see… Yesterday… Erm… Nothing too interesting happened… I went to Emmi’s and revised for a history test we had today, then I went to Rob’s and did my laundry in the laundrette in his building. It is superior to mine by miles. And, it managed to get my laundry dry with one attempt. I was most content. Last night, whilst revising for today’s history test, I realised that one of the books that I had purchased for my course was actually quite good – I’m talking maps, coherent explanations and everything – so as such, I got highlighting, as I kinda don’t wanna throw it away/sell it on. That, and it’s in French, so it limits the available selling audience.

Anyway, today was “jour j” as they say here, and the time for the test approached. It was pretty dire. He managed to pick the stuff that you always skim over because “he can’t possibly get a question out of that”. Typical. Anyway, the rest of the lesson was spent, well, I don’t know. Dozing off, as per. They are incredibly dull. It livened up when it came to the weekly presentation. This weeks’ began well, with the victim presentation giver having a few grammatical errors in his title pointed out to him by his camarades. That, and I don’t think the presentation was meaty enough. It was all about the representation of “Jeanne d’Arc” [aka. Joan of Arc, agenda, Jan d'Arc] in the XIXe. It was gripping. Apparently we burnt her, but everyone else wanted her burnt too. Maybe. She was made a saint by the same Church that wanted her burnt, simply by changing a few words “We have burnt a saintly person” became, simply “We have burnt a saint”. Crafty, non? Still, I like to think that we burnt her, and she bloody deserved it too. A woman leading an army into battle, whatever next?! The right to vote?!

Also, it appears today is Thanksgiving in America. You know, where they claim to be thankful for the Native Americans [or Indians, as they wrongly call them] helping them survive the first winter, or something like that, but are actually thankful that Pocahontas didn’t skin them all alive. Anyway, what am I thankful for? Being in France, but also thankful for the cheap train tickets I managed to book home Oh, and family and friends, I suppose. Also, you should check out the video of Obama “pardoning” a Turkey. No word of a lie. They president, for like 20 years or so now, has pardoned a turkey every Thanksgiving. Weirdos.

Sorry for the lack of posts this week, guys – our office has been attacked by a nasty cold virus, myself included.

In Monday’s podcast, Sarah and I debated whether or not there was ever an Atlantis.

The Atlantis story comes from Plato, but was he telling the story of a historical event, or simply teaching a moral lesson? In Plato’s unfinished trilogy of dialogues, he recounts the destruction of Atlantis due to the greed of its people. Throughout the years, the idea of a sunken city has captured the imagination of the most unlikely bedfellows. Heinrich Himmler, for example, used his position within the SS to send expeditions to such far-flung locales as Tibet to look for Atlantis. Not that he was the only one to search for the city; it’s been said to be located in the Canary Islands, Sweden, Santorini and Bimini – and that’s just a sampling.

Some have gone so far as to suggest the Atlanteans were a super-race, undone by their own technological sophistication. Want to dig deeper into the mystery of Atlantis? Listen to the podcast on iTunes.

Pocahontas was the subject of Wednesday’s podcast. “Pocahontas” is no one’s favorite Disney movie, but the woman herself has an interesting story.

When the Virginia Company sent settlers to Jamestown in search of gold, they were sadly disappointed. The land there wasn’t even good – it was marshy, and the James River was only potable for part of the year.

Pocahontas became acquainted with the settlers when she was 10 or 11, but the story of her rescuing John Smith may have been completely made up. Smith’s accounts were notoriously unreliable, and he didn’t publish this sensationalized account until after she’d become famous.

The History-When the pilgrims crashed the Nina, Pinto and Santa Domingo into Plymouth rock some thousand or so years ago, the native population of Indian folk decided to throw them a party complete with cylinders of gelatinous cranberries and an honest to gosh turkey sacrifice. This ladies and gentlemen, was the first Thanksgiving.  It wasn’t long after this party that Pocahontas, in search of a meal to satisfy the voracious appetite of her boyfriend John Smith, conjured up a sandwich culled from the remnants of the feast, this more importantly was the first Thanksgiving Leftover Sandwich.  Unbeknownst to Pocahontas Smith, this very sandwich would not only put the United States on the map as the sandwich capital of the new world, but redefine our definition of leftovers for ever.   In memory of this sandwich, millions of Americans and their pets hold a “Thanksgiving Dinner” one, to three days before they assemble their annual Thanksgiving Leftover Sandwiches.

The Challenge-To recreate, to the best of your ability a leftover sandwich utilizing the components of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner.  Such elements may include, but are not limited to: turkey(light and dark), stuffing, cranberries(both jellied and not), gravy, rolls, potatoes (mashed, baked, sweet and the like), ham, turdecken, tofurkey, pumpkin pie, apple pie, pecan pie, small marshmallows, alcohol of various sorts, etc.

 Non è stato facile. In questi mesi ho provato davvero cosa vuol dire essere presa alla gola dalla vita “quotidiana”…avevo solo il tempo di registrare, vedere, ascoltare, sentire…sono piena di immagini, di parole, di sensazioni…ma non avevo mai  tempo di pensare fino in fondo…Quando mi fermavo era solo per dare e prendere affetto dai miei cari e già questo mi ha consentito di andare avanti… ma questo diario mi mancava. mi mancava parecchio.

Eppure non trovavo mai il coraggio, il momento, il pensiero “giusto” che potesse sottolineare questo senso di incertezza perenne nel quale ormai penso che chiunque viva da “questa parte del mondo” subisce ogni giorno anche con dolore, con rabbia, ma subisce… senza apparente speranza.

Cercavo un appiglio, un sapore, un sogno, una parola, qualcosa che mi desse la forza di ricominciare a raccontare…ed io volevo riprendere questo blog andando a raccontare la voglia e la possibilità che esiste ancora di sperare, di credere..

Non ci riuscivo, non trovavo nessuna immagine dentro di me… e poi… poi questo piccolo-grande incontro, una POLAROID  che vi affido e che spero possa far comprendere che sì, forse sì, forse c’è ancora speranza…Avevo iniziato a raccontarla il 15 settembre. Finisco ora. E c’è un perchè

Sono tornata.

Forse solo perchè non posso fare a meno delle mie e delle vostre parole.

Ore 7.15.

Parcheggio in Via Lario e aspetto, come tutte le mattine. Ne approfitto per guardare l’agenda, ascoltare musica, “organizzare” la mente aspettando la giornata che verrà.

Le vacanze non sono ancora state dimenticate e questo mi dà la forza di sopportare il cielo grigio di questi giorni.

Sfoglio le pagine del quotidiano acquistato. Non è facile, non è facile per niente ricominciare a leggere con attenzione.

Timore, nausea e rassegnazione mi costringono a pensare che non sarà affatto un autunno facile.

Sbuffo. Stamattina non ce la faccio. Chiudo il giornale. No, stamattina mi rifiuto.

Poi li vedo, sul marciapiede di fronte.  E così ce l’ha fatta a sopravvivere anche a quest’estate.

Lui quasi lo sostiene, cammina lentamente per permettergli di farcela anche stamattina. Si ferma praticamente ogni due passi, lo accarezza, gli parla, lo sprona a camminare.

Il suo amico carissimo è ormai allo stremo delle forze. Magro, meticcio, semiparalizzato, fa sempre più fatica a muovere le zampe posteriori. Alza il muso a guardare il suo padrone con uno sguardo di gratitudine ma anche di profonda tristezza. Lasciami qui, lasciami andare…

Lui lo accarezza piano, gli parla piano, gli accarezza le zampe, fino a farlo andare avanti ancora di qualche passo, lo sprona con dolcezza, alla fine lo prende quasi in braccio.

Lo rimette a terra e gli riesce a far fare ancora qualche passo. Il veterinario ha detto che è fondamentale riuscire a farlo muovere almeno per una decina di minuti.

E quel muso, quel muso che lo guarda con immenso amore e tristezza lo ripaga di tutto.

E’ il suo cane. Lo ha accompagnato per quasi 20 anni della sua vita. In silenzio. Su quel marciapiede sono scesi due volte al giorno, a lui gli ha raccontato tutti i suoi guai, tutti i suoi sogni, con lui ha brontolato, con lui ha sfidato il sonno e il freddo della mattina…solo per amore reciproco.

Ogni sera lo ha ritrovato accanto alla porta. Scodinzolante e grato per il suo ritorno. L’unica vera certezza della sua giornata.

Non può lasciarlo andare. Non può e il dolore lo attanaglia. Io lo so bene…Lo prende in braccio, lo accarezza, lo porta a casa continuando a parlargli piano. Una magra e spelacchiata coda pende e scodinzola piano. L’unico gesto d’amore che quel corpo stanco riesce ancora a fare con entusiamo sincero.

Se ne vanno piano, dietro l’angolo…

Ed io …io penso che allora sì, allora forse c’è ancora speranza.

L’ho rivisto oggi, da solo, e non ho resistito. Sono scesa dalla macchina e l’ho fermato: “Lei non mi conosce ma io…io la guardavo passare ogni mattina con il suo cane…” Mi guarda perplesso e poi i suoi occhi diventano lucidi…

“Grazie: no, non ce l’ha fatta più, sa ormai aveva 18 anni, ma per me era davvero il mio migliore amico..ma grazie, grazie per avermelo chiesto…anch’io lo penso ogni mattina quando passo da questa strada, grazie….No, non potrei mai avere un altro cane. Non ancora.”

Mi stringe la mano, ma non la lascia: ” E lei, lei  ha animali?”

“Sì, due gatti e Chili, Chili è quasi arrivato al capolinea…soffre molto lo so,  ma non riesco a lasciarlo andare. Non ancora”

E gli occhi lucidi ora sono i miei, lo so.

Sorride e mi stringe ancor più forte la mano.

“Già”.

“Buona giornata”.

Lo guardo attraversare la strada.

Ecco..sì…forse c’è ancora speranza. Non so perchè penso questo…ma è proprio questo quello che penso, mentre chiudo la macchina e mi asciugo una lacrima di nascosto, con il dorso della mano.

Sei proprio ridicola, lo sai?….meglio così. Alleuja. Che la speranza d’amore non ci abbandoni mai. In qualsiasi forma questo mondo ci offra la possibilità di conoscerla.

I really wonder what the hell happened to Disney. One movie was fricken awesome, and then they just degraded downhill. Every once in a while they get something right like Lilo & Stitch but for the most part Disney seems to have come to their peak, ran out of ideas and thought that copy and pasting with a little bit of frankensteining pieces together would work for them.

Now this movie was not terrible, but for a Disney film it left much to be desired.

First off the songs seemed like they didn’t belong except for one in the middle of the movie which probably everyone has heard since I believe they used to play it on the radio. But all of the other songs seemed like someone was offbeat, or it just didn’t fit the feel of the scene at hand. For example Pocahontas is rowing down an almost white rapid river singing about love, and it just doesn’t seem to fit the feel of the song, and that’s just one of the many songs.

Now what they did get right, or at least I am assuming they got it right since I don’t know their culture very well, are the Native Americans. They really seemed to get a good feel for them and their culture, I was actually quite surprised. But they did seem to mess up on the English a little bit though. But you know what, white people are assholes and for some reason, they are damned proud of it. So I guess that’s the angle they were going for and it worked with what the movie had to offer.

Talking trees freak me the fuck out. They freaked me out in Lord of the Rings and they freak me out in this. Talking tress will always freak me out. I don’t like it and I have no idea why they need to keep on putting these things in movies.

One thing I found was a love/hate relationship with this movie was Pocahontas’s furry and feathered friends. Half of the time they were actually funny, the other times they were way more of an annoyance to the movie itself. Yes I am aware that Disney likes to show the animals to kids while you Adults listen to the plot in the background, I can accept that. But its seems like this was taken too far.

All in all it’s not terrible, but it’s pretty bad for a Disney movie. You can easily avoid this movie if you are looking for Disney gold because you won’t find it here. Go watch a Pixar movie instead.

Jonesboro 41 LR Hall 6 – The Hurricane led 14-6 at halftime, but poured on the points in the second half to win their ninth game of the season. Jonesboro (9-1, 6-1 6A-East) will have a bye next week in the first round of the 6A State Playoffs.

Valley View 45 Westside 6 – The Blazers won their fourth consecutive game Thursday, beating rivals Westside 45-6. Next up for Valley View (6-4, 4-3 4A-3) is a trip to the state playoffs, while the season comes to an end for Westside (3-7, 1-6 4A-3).

Gosnell 14 Highland 6 – The Pirates rebounded in Week 10 with a 14-6 defensive battle over the Rebels. Gosnell (7-3, 5-2 4A-3) enters the playoffs as the No. 3 seed out of the conference.  Highland (3-7, 2-5 4A-3) finishes their regular season with back-to-back close losses.

Osceola 37 Pocahontas 21 - Playing just three days after being taken to overtime by Highland, the conference champion Seminoles were tested again, this time by cellar dweller Pocahontas. In the end though, the Noles survived and completed a perfect season in 4A-3 play. Osceola (8-1-1, 7-0 4A-3) will roll into the playoffs yet again under longtime coach Clinton Gore, while Pocahontas’ (1-9, 0-7 4A-3) season comes to an end.

West Memphis 35 LR Parkview 7 – The Blue Devils completed an undefeated regular season with a four-touchdown beatdown over Little Rock Parkview. West Memphis (10-0, 7-0 6A-East) will get a playoff bye next week before starting play in the 6A playoffs.

Harrisburg 39 Hoxie 12 – The Hornets grabbed their ninth win of the season Thursday night, shutting down Hoxie 39-12. Harrisburg (9-1, 6-1 3A-3) finishes the regular season in a three-way tie for first in the 3A-3. Hoxie (4-6, 3-7 3A-3) will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2002.

Cave City 28 Earle 8 – The Cavemen pulled away from Earle early, and rolled to a 28-8 victory Thursday night. Cave City (9-1, 6-1 3A-3) finishes the regular season in a three-way tie for the top spot in the 3A-3, as they prepare for the playoffs. The Bulldogs (7-2, 4-2 3A-3) will be the No. 4 seed out of the conference.

Rivercrest 56 Manila 13 – The Colts blasted Manila by 43 points Thursday to finish their regular season slate with a record of 8-2 and 6-1 in the 4A-3. The playoffs await next week for Rivercrest.

McCrory 56 Salem 8 – The Jags scored four touchdowns in the first quarter and led 48-9 at halftime en route to completing an undefeated regular season. The Jags (10-0, 9-0 2A-3) will now shift their attention to the 2A playoffs, with hopes of a state title a possibility.

so i have to admit that my halloween (and my mischief night) was full of non-stop drama, but regardless of all that i had a great time dressing up and hanging out with my friends.  (at least i think i did since i don’t really remember most of it…;) )

on halloween night i dressed up as meeko (the raccoon from pocahontas) and my friend patrick dressed up as flit (the hummingbird). unfortunately we didn’t have a pocahontas but it was awesome anyway.

the size ratio isn’t quite right he’s an adorable flit, isn’t he? you can see my tail in the photo below (my favorite part of the costume).

I hope you guys all had fabulous Halloweens as well. What’d you guys dress up as? (I’d love pictures!)

Well, Jasmine has always been my most favorite Disney princess. She got the inner strength, the brilliance, the beauty, and the Prince Charming. What a lovely survey result.

Another Halloween has come to pass. (Thank you Lord) This year I started prepping EARLY so it didn’t become the giant stress-factor that it is every other year. Yep, I had Clara’s costume made THIS SUMMER. Stop it, you’re making me blush, I know it’s genius. And Henry and I  pulled his costume together at LEAST a month ago. But even with all the planning, I couldn’t get the weather to cooperate. It rained….and it rained…and it rained. When your five year old stops and says “I don’t want any more candy!” you know it’s all wrong. And when your 9-year boy is CRYING because you want to take his picture…you know that you may not survive another Halloween.

The flap on the bum is my favorite part. I had the seamstress baste it on so we can actually remove it to wear this cute little corduroy getup for one than one day out of the year. I know, I know (I told you to stop!)

H-man was a punk rocker. And because punk rockers aren’t supposed to cry, I’m protecting his street cred by not posting a picture of him caught in the act of…

We ending up drinking hot chocolate, watching football and I got all of my ironing done.

So the night wasn’t a total loss.

Jonesboro 18 Marion 15 – The Hurricane picked up another win on their way to the playoffs Friday. Jonesboro scored first on the road, but by halftime the Patriots held a 9-7 lead. The Hurricane fought back in the second half and took the lead for good on a fourth-quarter field goal. Jonesboro (9-1, 6-1 6A-East) will close out the regular season next week at home against Little Rock Hall.

Valley View 34 Pocahontas 14 – Valley View controlled the action tonight on the road at Pocahontas, winning by 20 and. The Blazers (5-4, 3-3 4A-3) will close the regular season at Westside, while Pocahontas (1-8, 0-6 4A-3) will host Osceola.

West Helena 48 Nettleton 6 – West Helena scored six first-half touchdowns, throttling Nettleton 48-6. The Cougars (5-4, 4-2 5A-East) will close out the regular season against Batesville, while Nettleton’s (1-8, 0-6 5A-East) year will come to an end at Wynne.

Greene County Tech 28 Batesville 14 – Greene County Tech took a monumental step toward going to the playoffs for the first time in 18 years. Jeff Conaway’s crew got a huge road win at Batesville to solidify their playoff chances. The Pioneers scored first and took a 14-7 halftime lead when time expired on a GCT drive inside the Batesville 5-yard line. The Golden Eagles would not be denied in the second half though, outscoring the Pioneers 21-0 in the half to seal the win. GCT (7-2, 4-2 5A-East) closes out their regular season next week hosting Paragould, while Batesville (5-3-1, 3-3 5A-East) will need a win next week at West Helena to keep their playoff streak alive.

Blytheville 42 Paragould 14 – Blytheville kept their slim playoff hopes alive with a 42-14 victory at Paragould. Blytheville (3-5-1, 3-3 5A-East) will have to upset conference champ Forrest City next week just to have a chance to make the playoffs, while Paragould (2-7, 1-5 5A-East) will close out their season at rival GCT.

Forrest City 26 Wynne 13– The Mustangs led just 14-13 at half over the streaking Yellowjackets, but lengthened their lead in the second period to claim their eighth straight victory and clinch the 5A-East title. Rich Trail’s Mustangs (8-1, 6-0 5A-East) will close out the regular season at Blytheville, while Wynne (4-5, 3-3 5A-East) needs a victory against Nettleton to secure a playoff spot.

Newport 47 Gosnell 26 – The Greyhounds flexed their offensive muscle once again Friday night, rolling over Gosnell to secure the second playoff seed from the 4A-3. Newport (5-4, 5-1 4A-3) hosts Trumann next week, while Gosnell (6-3, 4-2 4A-3) will look to snap a two-game losing streak when they travel to Highland.

West Memphis 42 Jacksonville 0 – The Blue Devils were far better than the Red Devils Friday night. But then again, the Blue Devils have been better than all of their opponents so far this season. West Memphis improves to 9-0 and 6-0 in the 6A-East.

Harrisburg 28 Earle 26 – The Hornets secured their spot in the playoffs with a 28-26 victory over Earle. Harrisburg (8-1, 5-1 3A-3) will close out their regular season next week against Hoxie. Even with the loss, the Bulldogs (7-2, 4-2 3A-3) clinched a playoff spot as well by virtue of Cave City’s victory over Hoxie.

Cave City 14 Hoxie 7 – In a critical conference battle, Hoxie led 7-0 at the half, but the Cavemen scored out of the gates to begin the second frame and won the contest 14-7. The win puts Cave City (8-1, 5-1 3A-3) into the playoffs. Hoxie (4-5, 3-3 3A-3) closes out their season next week against Harrisburg.

Rivercrest 35 Corning 0 – As expected the Colts ran away from the winless Bobcats early in this one, while their conference competition battled it out amongst each other. Rivercrest improves to 7-2 overall and 5-1 in the 4A-3.

McCrory 48 Rector 6 – The Jaguars jumped ahead of Rector early and rolled to their ninth victory of the season. McCrory improves to 9-0 on the season and 8-0 in the 2A-3.

Cross County 32 Marked Tree 24 – The T-Birds and the Indians played a classic on Friday, with Cross County scoring last and winning 32-24. The T-Birds (5-4, 4-4 2A-3) close out the regular season hosting Marvell next week, while Marked Tree (2-7, 1-6 2A-3) ends against Rector.

Walnut Ridge 20 EPC 8 – The Bobcats keep on rolling, as they dismissed EPC 20-8 Friday night. Walnut Ridge (7-2, 7-1 2A-3) could secure a home playoff game with a win next week against Augusta. With the loss, EPC drops to 4-5 overall and 3-5 in the 2A-3.

Due to heavy rains and flooding throughout northeast Arkansas on Friday, both the Westside-Trumann game and the Highland- Osceola game have been postponed. Westside and Trumann will play Saturday night at 7:00 at Trumann, while there will be some Monday Night Football in Mississippi County next week, with the Rebels and Seminoles rescheduling their game for Monday evening.
