Alister McRae came third in the Rally of Scotland driving a Proton Satria. This is a first ever podium finish for Proton in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge.

Now living in Perth Western Australia McRae recently returned to his native Perth shire in Scotland to race the Proton Satria Neo to its best ever result.

Only seven days earlier McRae almost won a place on the podium in the Rally of China in a similar Satria Neo S2000.

McRae has been impressed with the  Mellors Elliott Motorsport Proton Satria Neo S2000 and would like to compete in more Rallies with the car in 2010.

The Satria Neo S2000 made its first appearance on the IRC in June this year at the Belgium Ypres Rally and has been quick to show off its potential.

Chris Mellors is the team principal and he confirmed that a full IRC campaign as well as the Asia Pacific series is being prepared for 2010.

“We’re looking at a four-car program for 2010 – two in the IRC and two in the FIA Asia-Pacific Championship,” he said.

“Alister has driven for us in the Asia-Pacific series this year and until this weekend that was what we were planning for 2010 as well, but I know he’s enjoying this weekend a great deal so it could be interesting sorting that out.”

McRae was pleased to record Proton’s first podium finish in the IRC.

“The Proton chassis is one of the best I have ever driven”.

“Yes we’re doing the full IRC next year. We are looking forward to coming back and fighting these guys again,” Alister said.

“Kris Meeke (rally winner) has christened me ‘old safe hands’ but I can assure you these old hands were working far quicker than the brain!” McRae added.

McRae’s father was very proud, he himself being a five times British rally champion, Jimmy McRae, has been working with organisers of the inaugural Rally of Scotland and was extremely proud of his son’s return from Australia and joked : “He’s still a McRae!”

The Proton Super 2000 has a two litre engine that is based on the 1.8 litre engine from the Waja model and produces 210kW at 7600rpm, its usable power band is from 5,500 to 8,500rpm and uses a six speed sequential Xtrac 4WD transmission.

The car has been fitted with an innovative quick-change fuel control cassette that includes all fuel pumps, filters and valves. This is attached to the safety fuel cell and helps with quick maintenance.

Ventilated discs with alloy four pot calipers combined with the Neo’s low weight of 1150kg gives it excellent braking performance. The size of the ventilated discs can be changed, depending on the size of the wheels used. 15 inch wheels are used on gravel and 18 inch on tarmac, the calipers remain the same only the discs are changed.

The suspension setup can be fine tuned for any surface with a variety of anti-roll bars available for both front and back.

Resulting in a car with technical advances that are simple to use with the best combination of performance and reliability.

Angel and I made a date to look for her shoes that she will wear to a garden wedding this weekend. We decided to go to Podium since I was also planning to buy a new pair of Espadrilles from Sueño de Espadrilles. I originally own a dirty white pair but because I had it washed, it became beige and are choking my feet [they shrunk!]. **Note: Espadrilles are not meant to be washed.

Aside from Podium, I planned to do my errands today since Blade Mall of Asia has long been texting me that the seat cover I ordered was finally in the store. So I finally did get the seat cover and fetched Angel at Glorietta.

When we got to Podium, we were so hungry that we decided to eat lunch first, hence Kimono Ken. Normally, when I eat in Japanese restaurants, I order Teriyaki Chicken or Teriyaki Salmon. But this time, I decided to go for a change and tried a new dish [will supply this name later on]. It was soooo goooood and it only cost me P150! Change is good.

After eating, we went shoe hunting. And boy! Did we find some shoes!

Even though I was planning to buy my Espadrilles, I was unable to because they did not have the style I wanted. On the other hand, I found this adorable baby that blew me away. Instead of getting the Steve Madden shoe which would cost me close to P9000, I am getting this shoe instead.

I was really about to pay for it but the saleslady could not give me a discount [there's a defect on the back]. So anyway, she reserved the shoe for me until she confirms with her boss.

Angel, meanwhile, was able to buy whore heels from People are People [picture next time] which only cost her P600! They were so cuttteee!! But she later realized that she still needed shoes for the wedding. Since she was running low on money, we both decided to look for shoes which would only cost P400.

So after Podium, we went to Galleria since I had a schedule to visit Gold’s Gym. While I checked out the amenities of the gym [planning to join? get in touch with me! They have a promo!!!], Angel checked out the shoes in the Department Store.

When I was able to catch up with her, I told her VNC was having a sale and we should check out 50th Avenue as well. So we did, and finally, Angel found shoes from Cole Vintage at only P300! Meanwhile, I found another new pair of shoes to drool over from VNC. They still cost P2,600+ and they’re breaking my heart..

This week, I throw myself to the wolves. I will be giving a keynote speech to about 1000 students aged from about 11 to 14 on the annual middle-school career day. Anyone who has presented to this age group will know that this will potentially be a tough audience. My professional speaking friends had impish smiles on their faces at a recent National Speakers Association of North Texas chapter meeting when I told them about the engagement, and had expressions on their faces that read “better you than me”. In addition to the keynote, I will be giving three 45 minute career guidance presentations. The reason I am doing these speeches is to give back to the community. During my life I have had so many people help me out, coach me, and mentor me. Even today, I still have people mentoring me to help me as a professional speaker who wants to excel.
To make sure that my keynote speech is beneficial, educational, and entertaining for the students and teachers, I have thought carefully about what I am going to present and make sure I grab every opportunity to energize the audience. What I want to share with you is the importance of having a well thought out introduction to set the stage for a top class presentation. The goal is to have an introduction that sets the tone of the speech and gets the audience sitting up in their seats. I want the audience to know that I am not just turning up to make some points, and that I am credible on the subject. I would also like them to know that I am going to reinforce my points with stories and humor. I am always trying to hone my introductions to let the audience know that I have had an unusually interesting life, and that I will be bringing a sense of playfulness and humor to the podium.

Here is what I have seen go wrong with introductions:
1) There is no introduction. The keynote speaker walks onto the podium and starts off with zero energy from the audience.
2) Without an introduction, the audience may wonder if the speaker is credible on the subject.
3) The introduction is put together at the last minute by the introducer. It is fumbled and the introducer rambles on and on, sucking the energy out of the audience.
4) The poorly prepared introducer makes up details, provides incorrect details, or gets the presenters name or credentials wrong.
5) The poorly written introduction confuses the audience, and they start clapping before the introduction is complete. The introducer then keeps talking as the audience claps, and the presenter arrives on the podium in a moment of mayhem.
6) The introducer does not practice the introduction with the speaker, and the following happens:
o The well thought out written introduction includes some notes for the introducer (e.g. PAUSE FOR LAUGHTER, PAUSE, EMPHASIZE THIS WORD), and the guidance notes get read out loud! Believe it or not, this actually happens.
o The humor gets lost in a sentence because the introducer does not put the correct emphasis on the right words, and does not pause at the part where the audience would laugh.

Success Strategies for Speech Introductions
1) Spend a lot of time writing and honing your introductions
2) Practice your introductions in front of family, friends, and other speakers. Ask for constructive feedback.
3) Through trial and error, understand what is working and get rid of what is not working.
4) Use your introduction to give you the speaker credibility (something that describes why your point of view is believable).
5) When using humor in your introduction, understand pauses, give the audience a clear indication of where the punch-line is, and allow them the opportunity to laugh.
6) The ending of the introduction is critical. Have a sentence that clearly indicates that this is the end of the introduction, and it is now time to start clapping. The last two words on the introduction should be your name.
7) Practice your introduction with your introducer (even coach them on projecting their voice or on using the microphone effectively. Show them how to turn on the microphone and how to keep it close to the mouth, etc.).
Use big a large font and put the written introduction on stiff paper so the paper does not shake visibly if the introducer is nervous.
9) Even though you may have sent your introduction to the introducer ahead of time, still bring a hard-copy to the event, as it may get lost.
10) Every introduction you develop should be filed (I have about 20 introductions that have evolved over the years.
11) Speakers routinely ask, “Where do I stand when I am being introduced? Do I stand up front or out of sight of the audience?” My preference is to be out of sight at the back of the room. I start walking energetically onto the podium (to show I am bringing vigor) when the last two words of my introduction are being read (my name). I am walking during the applause, then stand center stage, allow the applause to die down, and scan the audience while smiling. Then I start my powerful opening.

EXAMPLE 1
This is the introduction I am perfecting for next week’s keynote to the middle school students. My wife, a teacher, has reviewed it and provided suggestions based on her knowledge of students that age. I will make the font as big as will fit on a single page, and I will bring a copy of it with me, printed on stiff paper.
I am still trying to find some more humor to add so that I can get some energy levels going at the beginning. I want the students warmed up for laughter, since my keynote included stories from my childhood and beyond, with humorous content.

“Our speaker this morning is Dave Hill. He grew up in a very small town in Ireland. One particular school he attended had only one teacher who taught all grades. Her first job in the morning was to light a coal fire to keep the classroom warm. The school didn’t even have indoor toilets.
“Dave left home when he was 18 to go to college in Scotland, and graduated as a mechanical engineer. His first career was as an engineering officer traveling worldwide on cargo and passenger ships. This was in spite of the fact that when he was going from Ireland to England on the ferry boat for his first job interview, he got [PAUSE] sea sick! …[PAUSE FOR POSSIBLE LAUGHTER]
“Dave has had three different engineering careers with some unique experiences:
“He has traveled to 75 countries [EMPHASIS]. He even spent a year volunteering on a square rig sailing ship traveling from Australia to the Caribbean.
“He now also has his own professional speaking business.
“He met his Canadian wife in Australia and they have two children.
Please help me welcome …Dave Hill [EMPHASIS]”.

EXAMPLE 2
This is an introduction I have used several times, and it has good results getting audiences laughing and emitting energy. It continues to progress.

“Imagine a presenter who provides life changing ideas.
“Envision a speaker who will give you ideas to enrich your life and the lives of others.
“Unfortunately… [PAUSE] due to budget cuts we were not able to get that quality presenter [PAUSE FOR POSSIBLE LAUGHTER]
“So, today we have Dave Hill ……the engineer.
“Dave has had some unique working experiences.
“He has travelled to 75 countries… from the highlands of Papua New Guinea…… to the shores of Ethiopia… to the Pacific Islands.
“He even spent a year on a square rig sailing ship travelling from Australia to the Caribbean.
“He met his Canadian wife in Australia, and likes to tell people it’s just another one of those [SLOWLY] …Irishman …meets…Canadian …in…Australia …and …lives in Texas …stories!
“Their two kids are Irish-Canadian with emerging Texas accents and are known to start off the day with [SLOWLY] “Top-Of-The-Morning… Y’all… EH! [PRONOUNCED “A”]
“Today, he is going to help us understand how balanced fun in the workplace can increase our effectiveness and profits.
“Please help me welcome – The world traveling Irishman…Dave Hill [EMPHASIS]”

Reading a book while commuting is like being accompanied by a real person on your way to work. It makes the whole ride to the office less dreadful.

Once I was accompanied by Thad Beaumont and let me tell you, he gave me my most violent morning to date. I also recall being accompanied by Dolores Claiborne, she talked a whole lot but it was fun because when she talked about Vera Donovan, I felt pity, fury and terror all at the same time. When Clay, Alice and Tom joined me in my early morning commute to work, I was inspired to raise zombies in my workstation for Halloween.

Whenever a character is about to say goodbye, I feel sad and panicky. I start thinking of another book to read. I am no literary connoisseur so I tend to stick to the authors I’ve developed a furious admiration for. That will be King and Gaiman. I read other titles too but these two guys are the ones who occupy the most space in my desk.

I recently finished the whole of Sandman and it was awesome. Morpheus is the best companion of all because he brings a whole army of other creatures and characters for me to play with.

Which now brings me to my next target: Wicked. I was dead set on getting Wicked after work. I heard Elphaba and Glinda are awesome commute-mates. I went to Megamall and headed straight to Powerbooks. I wanted to maximize the card thinger I got from there. After making me wait for 20 minutes:

Me: Oh… really?
Powerbooks Girl: May dadating naman po. Gusto niyo magpareserve?
Me: Kelan dadating?
Powerbooks Girl: Hindi po namin alam eh.

Uhm… whut? I turned my back on her and went to National Bookstore. I was surprised with the number of graphic novels they have in stock. Then my eyes traveled and found a whole shelf full of Gregory Maguire books.

Mirror Mirror… Lost… Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister… Son of a Witch… A Lion Among Men…

…That’s it? They had everything except Wicked. Great. I felt so sickened right at the pit of my stomach that I wanted to either throw up or cry. I thought of buying LXG or Swamp Thing or V for Vendetta instead since I have been planning to buy those anyway… but it just wasn’t the same. I had an appointment with Elphaba, it just felt wrong to be with someone else. So I went to the nearest bookstore: Bestsellers in Podium.

Eureka! They have it! So now I’m a happy sorbetera. I was so happy, I took Kingdom Come off the shelf as well. I’ve been meaning to read it since… oh I don’t know, three years ago? Two years? And since Bestsellers didn’t have V for Vendetta (why is everything fucking out of stock!) and Kingdom Come was just 700php, I took it!

Yay! New companions!

Portarna slogs upp till tonerna av tonsatta dikter. De som råkat ta vägen förbi skolan stannade upp och försökte förstå vad det var som hände. De senaste månaderna hade hela byggnaden varit svept i grått tyg, en liksvepning under vilken något nytt och spännande utvecklades.

På ett upphöjt podium satt en krum gumma och skrockade in i en mikrofon.

Alla de desillusionerade åren är över. Kunskap för vetandets skull är till enda. Själar som i århundraden har vittrat sönder, aldrig mer.

Med ambitionen att lära ut om livet och levandet har vi uppfört detta hus, denna institution som vi när en förhoppning aldrig ska dö.

Det vackra och undersköna. Böckerna som slår an klangen av lust ändå in i märgen, musiken som får kroppen att reagera som vore den i förälskelse, framförandena som får oss att förstå allt det där vi aldrig har förstått.

En utbildning som saknats sedan civilisationens födelse. Vetenskapen om att leva. Livsvetenskapen.

Och människorna undrade och tittade på varandra. Höjde på axlarna och fortsatte dit de var på väg. Kanske var de inte mogna. Kanske var inte tiden mogen.

Se utlizará la losa de la cochera como jardín (78m2 de cero impacto ambiental), accesado por la recámara principal.  El centro del diseño es el patio interior el que se conservará un manzano ya existente en el terreno.  Se propuso utilizar parte de las losas para colocar celdas solares y equipo para recuperación de agua de lluvia.

_ Mon point? Il n’y en a pas. Je voulais juste à travers cet exemple lancer un message d’espoir à tout ceux qui ne se trouvent pas cool et leur dire qu’un jour, tout peu changer.

Bientôt sortira dans les salles le nouveau film de Yann Moix, « Cinéman », l’histoire d’un prof transporté malgré lui dans l’univers du cinéma et qui passe de films en films à la recherche de la femme idéale. L’idée est des plus séduisantes.

Mais que faire des bonnes idées ?

Le premier spectacle que j’ai conçu, co-écrit et mis en scène, voilà maintenant quinze ans, s’intitulait : « Le rêve était presque parfait ». Il s’agissait des péripéties d’un homme qui s’assoupit dans une salle de cinéma et plonge dans l’écran à la recherche de la femme de ses rêves, bravant les obstacles sous les apparences de James Bond, Chaplin, Bogart, Ben-Hur et bien d’autres. Le défi théâtral était amusant, même si l’idée n’était pas neuve. Buster Keaton avait déjà, en 1920, construit un film semblable.

Moix est habitué aux bonnes idées et à leur meurtre. Son roman Podium était l’exemple même d’une imagination fertile gâchée par un esprit potache et désinvolte. Pas de style, pas de sincérité. L’ébauche d’un bouquin génial qui devait faire date. Et la déception était à la hauteur de l’attente. Mieux vaut faire un grand roman avec une idée stupide.

Et il suffit de parcourir la bande-annonce de « Cinéman » pour être envahi par le même sentiment. Quel gâchis annoncé. Bien sûr, il va remplir les salles. Mais quel déballage de gages potaches et de répliques arrachées à l’air du temps. Pas de sincérité dans le regard de Franck Dubosc, pas de sincérité dans la caméra de Moix. Comme disait Jouvet : « il y a des textes et des prétextes ». Ce faire-part de décès m’attriste.

I’ve been scanning through the prices for this weekend in the hope that something leaps off the page. Unfortunately, Brazil doesn’t seem to be a circuit where opportunities are immediately apparent. This caused me to go back and have a look to see if there was anything last year that was spotted last year that may still be valid.

This was a bet that I liked post-qualifying last year and following the Spaniard’s second place finish, he is now sitting on five podiums from his last six (of seven) starts at Interlagos. With Button occupying a similar position to Hamilton last year, in that winning is not as important as simply collecting some points, a similar bet looks a good place to start the weekend.

Fernando Alonso can be backed at 6/1 with several firms to finish on the podium.

Speaking of Jenson Button: It is a while since the BrawnGP has dominated a race weekend; but if it did, then Button at 14/1 is a much more attractive proposition than Barrichello at 8/1. Food for thought…

La inceput de septembrie anuntam un concurs fotografic organizat de Epson pre numele sau “Fii in rand cu profesionistii”. S-au anuntat (acum vreo saptamana) si cei 24 de castigatori ai celei de-a doua editii.

P.S. poate data viitoare imi fac curaj si particip si eu, dar pana atunci mai citesc si-mi mai formez ochiul prin contemplarea unor fotografii deja consacrate.
