I miss you,
But you don’t understand
We have a past together,
That’s something that’s gonna last forever
You’re my old girl,
Who’s about to become my new world
Them old feelings come rushing back,
And it feels like a heart attack
Talking on the phone every night,
Even though we know it’s not right
Because when feelings are strong,
Nothing else can come along
We’ve known each other since we were young ones,
We know each other’s loved ones
We’ve spend a lot time apart,
I know trying to get your love back is like a shot in the dark
But thats a shot I’m willing to take,
All it take is one date
One kiss, one touch,
My heart carries a lot of love
I miss the look in your eyes,
I miss the touch of your fingers,
I miss the kiss of your soft lips,
Come back for the things I miss
I miss everything about you and some,
Love me now and when I’m gone love me none
Haven’t been in a relationship in a while,
But when I think about I can’t help but smile
Because you’ll always have that place in my heart,
You know we’ve always been good from the start

The worst possible out come is falling for a cheater,
I’d rather give the one I’m with the benefit of the doubt,
maybe turn what we had into a home from a house.
But then we lost connection, you came at me with drawn weapons,
The woman of my dreams was no longer my inception.
They say what you learn in life could fill up a couple chapter books,
I was never one to mix facts with my affection based off of looks.
Think for a second, ponder it a minute…
I never loved a bitch but with you it felt different,
I thought we really had something, the beginings to a real relationship.
But you still refuse to name that nigga you had relations with,
How could we come from being eachothers everything…….to you being the one person I’d never give a wedding ring.

This poem was written by a young teenager, whom I do not know the name of, but I am working on to find out. Anyways, this poem was amazing and I feel that it has the right to be featured on this site. So enjoy!!!!

I Remember…Do You?

I remember this, I remember us,

I remember your eyes, your lips, your touch.

I remember you as a stranger who I knew so well,
And I hate to remember how it all just fell.

Do you remember Winter? The cold, icy sun?
Do you remember what it was like, before it came undone?

Will you remember? Can you explain why it scattered in the wind? Once upon a time we were lovers, yet now not even friends.

The warmth of your body faded with chill of the earth. Now the world’s warm, but the coldness of your absense hurts…

I remember this. I remember us. I remember falling in, landing with regret. Now I’m longing, not wanting to forget.

I remember when I belonged to you. Did you ever belong to me? I wanted to be set free, but wishing was all freedom turned out to be.

Now the winter is over.
I’ve already had to let you go.
But please know, I’ll always remember this, remember us,
Kissing during a cold season without snow.

Here at Poetic Phases, our motto is that everyone deserves a chance at Stardom. So here is a poem my boy Shields wrote called “Fall For Your Type“. Let us know your feedback, & what you think!!! Enjoy!!!

Fall For Your Type
Damn now you see why i dont show my feelings
Because then things get awkward
in the beginning
we were just chillen
Now it feels that things are moving backwards
Shouldve kept it to myself
Then letting them out and free
I thought it would be better for me to tell you
But i guess i was wrong
Shouldve stayed low and mellow
But it was gonna come out sooner or later
But it shouldve been later rather than sooner
Now you realize why i dont let feelings get to me
I should just be free
  I shouldve learned my lesson
But my feelings i was testing
Yet they fail me again
seems i can never win
I guess Its not about being in a relationship
I just hope this dosent ruin our friendship
Fuck it i guess it wasnt a good night
But what i dont understand is why I ALWAYS FALL FOR YOUR TYPE!! DAMN!!!

Here is a Spoken Word Piece called ” This Kid”, by yours truly, aka Latter Day Poet. I was pretty nervous when I did this one, due to the fact that this was the first time I was doing it off of memorization. The idea of the piece is that I am supposed to be a school shooter, who ends up on the strong verge of insanity, to the point where I kill my Best Friend. By the time I figure it out, it is then too late to try and bring her back.

I received a lot of positive feedback for this poem, and I was grateful for it.I performed it at my school’s 2012 Spring Coffeehouse. I hope u all get the message as much as the others did, & I hope you all enjoy it!! Thank you!!!

We here at Poetic Phases have posted about this young man before, with his previous poem titled: Memories. I think our young poet found out it was our site that posted about him, because he talks about a blog on wordpress that displays his poetry in this video. He has matured alot since Memories, and I thought it would be an honor to show his newest piece.

This young man is only 17, and he blows my mind through each poem that he performs. The mentality level that he is on for his age, demonstrates how ahead he is in his generation. His words are so in depth, that you really have to open your ears and mind to understand where he is coming from. It’s been awesome featuring his work on our site, and I can only see more accomplishments laying in store for this young lad. Check it out & enjoy!!!!

Andre Carbonell was apart of Team Jacksonville for Brave New Voices 2011 this past summer. Brave New Voices is a competition in which competitors compete for the number one spot on the best spoken word monologues.

Andre Carbonell is a phenonmenal poet to be so young. The boy is wonderful when he speaks, and it’s only the beginning. This piece called Memories is based on his team and family from the competition of Brave New Voices

So last night on November 15, 20ll my college held the first Coffee House for the new semester. It was my second time performing “for my school”, and I decided to do a poem based off of the different views on music through the eyes of Christians and Non-Christians. I must admit, I was nervous as heck, but then again I know a majority of us get nervous when we have to express ourselves in front of people. So anyways, I went up there and gave it all that I could like my first performance I did for my school. They didn’t boo, but at the same time I was not pleased with my performance because I myself, am my worst critic. That’s just the life of a poet though. But anyways, I hope you all enjoy this performance and piece of poetry, and let me know any feedback as long as it’s not ignorant feedback.Thank you!

I apologize to you all for lacking on the blog, but know that I took the time to re-gain my thoughts, and turn all that negativity that I was feeling into a positive vibe. The main reason why this blog was started from the beginning was to express a self-indivual’s talent. I, am a Poet, and poetry is my love. I feel as if I have not really had the time to express my true talent, so I figured this evening would be a good time to put a little bit of my material up. Poetic Phases is all about self art, and I am just now forming into my own self Picasso & modern day Maya Angelou. Please enjoy!!

                                                                                        That Moment You Feel,…Definite

                                                                                     By Lady Fresh

There is that moment you feel absolute silence,…
The type of silence that is peaceful, but yet profound.
That moment when you feel as if your youth hood has been revived,
And you feel invincible when you reach the top of the jungle gym.
Yeah, I have experienced that moment in my past life…
The past life where I felt unstoppable & impenetrable.
There is that everlasting memory that can be easily forgotten,
But I refuse to erase my internal mental storage for lesson purposes.
I have encountered battles such as the ones of the Romans,
I have crucified sins at the stake, so that I could feel worthy of praise.
Yeah, there are those moments………….
There are those moments when I felt as if life was blain, & nothing was alive,
Those moments were I got caught for shunning & wrong doing but yet,
My pride still continues to live and thrive.
But no moment has ever compared to the moment I am having now,
Where everything hits rock bottom, but yet everything is in it’s place…
I am at the moment where I feel to the lowest, but yet I feel so high above others.
I feel as if everything is a lie, but the essence of these lies are actually the truth.
The moment where I am at a crash point, but yet the pinnacle of my breakthrough.
Yeah,…this is the moment where I feel at most,…Definite.

Here’s the Second Poem!

It wasn’t as if it was meant to be but meant for me

One sad,

Hiding from what you could say was for me or what was for us

An us was nothing like a relationship but a friendship that progress to something we couldn’t explain

Explain,

Was no need for no explanation, right?

But it was something we couldn’t speak about

It wasn’t as if it was meant to be but meant for me

Was not that I could let something go

By that,

Took a piece of me and left no love song,

No love lost or love for sake

It was more of something you couldn’t see

Couldn’t feel but held close

You couldn’t know what I was talking about until you experienced it

Some place you knew you should be

It wasn’t as if it was meant to be but meant for me…

Grave street

And I’m not talking bout no Grove Street even though it was close.

Bumpy roads

Seemed like the life you could have to what you say “connect with your people”

These bumpy roads lead to a bumpy journey

You see the cracks the road held had piece of grass,

Sprouts,

A life form of bugs and the residue of tragedy

Something I couldn’t understand but steadily want to hold the culture

Jazz bands,

Bounce clubs and booty shaking music

Whoever want to give that up?

Nawh was that a question.

Turn that beat up

But turn that shit down cuz was no life to live

Moving each day as a slow still

New Orleans had that thing I wanted to always be a part of

To share.

The life I lived,

College girl

Attitudinal

But not underestimated

You couldn’t know me by no smile on my face,

Not even by the way my ass swayed each time I walked down the street

Fine men,

High culture

But the grave streets,

Dead ass wrong people

Culture on full effect

You didn’t know what I was talking about until I said the name.

No hills,

Blazing sun,

Yeah I blazed it a few but I also took a shot or two

Cherished soul,

Prized over body,

Yeah that was me…

Ha all life aint good life

Hate the smile, like the surrounding

Despised a few

New Orleans,

Yeah it was no home away from home

But it had potential,

But it lacked the necessary things I needed,

Wanted and knew I deserved after coming in.

Wasn’t no piece of shit but hell that school slightly was

Drama filled halls,

Childish class.

Grown up life,

Full blown young woman.

Those grave streets…

That dirt path…

I came out stronger than when I went in,

No hurt feeling

Just a slight look back like “Damn I could have done better”

Ol’ New Orleans,

I gave you my fair well and I didn’t and won’t look back to be with you long time again.

But no hard feeling,

A kiss goodbye for the road?

Muah, I left my stamp.
