Als die Dresdner Synagoge pünktlich vor dem Reichskristallnacht-Jahrestag mit Parolen wie „Fuck the Juden, Monkey!“, „Schei8 Juden“ oder „Killers of Children“ und Symbolen wie „verkehrt drehendes Hakenkreuz“ = „Davidstern“ beschmiert wurde, waren die Meinungs- und Empörungshysteriker wieder außer sich. Das Jüdische Gemeindezentrum wurde mit Blumen überschüttet, Innenminister Markus Ulbig (CDU) und Landespolizeichef Bernd Merbitz führten Kondolenzbesuche beim Vorsitzenden der jüdischen Gemeinde durch und Dresdens Oberbürgermeisterin Helma Orosz (CDU) sprach von einer entsetzlichen Tat: „Die Tat unmittelbar vor dem Jahrestag der Reichspogromnacht zeigt, wie wichtig der gemeinsame Widerstand gegen rechtes Gedankengut ist“. [2] Auch die Fraktionssprecherin Christiane Filius-Jehne der Grünen im Dresdner Stadtrat war schwer betroffen: „Die offensichtlich von Neofaschisten begangene Tat ist unerträglich“.

Deutschsprachige Islamisten verorteten eine „fremdenfeindliche Tat“, die vor der Urteilsverkündung im Mordfall Marwa (rußlanddeutscher Migrant erstach ägyptische Migrantin) „besonders erschreckend“ sei. Dresden habe aus Sicht der Islamisten „ein Problem mit dem Rassismus“, da Sachsen als Hochburg der NPD gelte, welche dort Jugendzeitschriften verteile und „auch der Mörder von Marwa El-Sherbini [...] in dem vergangen Prozess durch NPD-Parolen“ aufgefallen sei. [3] Der katholische Dresdner Bischof Joachim Reinelt sprach hingegen von einem Sündenfall: „Diese Tat ist ein unglaublicher Frevel.“ Es sei unfaßbar, wie feige, schändlich und verabscheuungswürdig zum 71. Jahrestag der nationalsozialistischen Pogromnacht die Gefühle aller Dresdner und besonders der jüdischen Mitbürger verletzt worden seien. [4]

Ob Bischof Reinelt entsprechend der in der deutschen Rechtsgeschichte des Mittelalters getroffenen Unterscheidung des „Frevels“ diese Tat als „Schandtat gegen etwas Geheiligtes“ oder als „Ungericht“, die schwerste Art von Vergehen überhaupt, wertete, ließ er offen. Der Frevel als Sünde konnte im christlichen Mittelalter durch Strafen wie Züchtigung und Haarabschneiden gesühnt werden, Ungericht hingegen wurde durch Verstümmelung oder Hinrichtung geahndet.

Mittlerweile wurde der neofaschistische Frevler von einer „Sonderkommission Rechtsextremismus“ (Soko REX) ermittelt. Es handelt sich um einen 39-jährigen algerischen Staatsbürger, der in Dresden wohnt und mit hoher Wahrscheinlichkeit muslimischen Glaubens ist. „Auf Grund von Videoauswertungen und Zeugenaussagen konnten die Ermittler den Weg des Mannes nach der Tat rekonstruieren. Gegen ihn wird wegen Volksverhetzung in Tateinheit mit dem Verwenden von Kennzeichen verfassungswidriger Organisationen ermittelt.“ [5]

Ob die Tat nun in der Statistik rechtsextremistischer Straftaten oder jener migrantistischer Straftaten eingereiht wird, bleibt abzuwarten, auch, ob der Täter der katholischen Kirche überantwortet wird, auf daß sie den Frevler vor den Augen des HErrn die Haare abschneide und ihn verstümmele. Vielleicht wird der algerische Phantomnazi aber auch von Seinesgleichen gezüchtigt, weil er sich hat erwischen lassen. Denn wenn die Nazi-Provokateure schon aus Algerien importiert werden müssen, um die die Statistik rechter Straftaten den Anforderungen des Jahresplanes der steuergeldfinanzierten Anti-Rechts-Initiativen in die Höhe zu treiben, dann sollten sie sich gefälligst nicht so dumm anstellen.

Natürlich bliebe auch die Möglichkeit, die Flucht nach vorn anzutreten und dem Hakenkreuzschmierer von Dresden so wie der Hakenkreuzritzerin von Mittweida einen Zivilcouragepreis um den Hals zu hängen. Weil er die Öffentlichkeit so wunderschön plakativ auf den erschreckenden Dresdner Antisemitismus aufmerksam gemacht hat.

Naseem Mohammad Shaikh is from Vadodara, Gujarat, in India.  For seven years, she kept hoping her husband and parents would come back.

Naseem’s is a household name in Kalol.  This is not because she is the first woman in Gujarat to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, for her efforts for the survivors of the 2002 violent riots in Panchmahals.

Seven years ago, in Delol village, her neighbours had suddenly gone into a frenzy that February morning.  They were screaming hate, pulling out machetes and knives, and chasing their neighbors.  The killing lasted for the next two days and when it was over, Naseem had lost 27 of her own family members.  Some of the dismembered bodies were flung into the nearby Goma river, others were scattered in the slush of nearby fields.

Miraculously, as it now seems, Nassem was at a local maternity hospital that day. When Dr Macchi of Kalol Delivery Centre was putting the stitches on her, the mob was probably killing her husband, father, mother and her close relatives. Only her five-year-old son survived. “It was only later that village elders said they were all dead. None of their bodies were found,” she says.

Naseem continued to live on hope for a while. “A Hindu man in our village, Khoya Patel, saved my son, Shoaib. I kept believing some other kind souls would have saved the others too,” she says. All these seven years, the police never confirmed their deaths.

Since then, she has been living in a rehabilitation camp in Kalol and refuses to go back to the village. For good reasons. “My brother who survived the killing had earlier returned to our village. He was still in great trauma and when a bomb went off in the village bus stand, he lost his sanity. His wife returned alone to the rehabilitation camp,” she says.

In connection with Shakeel Basha in New Delhi, Naseem was agreed to start a World Faith Chapter in Gujarat.  Where Naseem could call for violence, justifying her loss, she has chosen peace.  Through her awesome work, we hope that no one in Gujarat will face the pain Naseem has.

why did kristallnacht happen?
I have to write a history paper with seven events from WWII. It has to be no less than 2 pages, but no more than 3. Some events include Hitler becomes chancellor / dictator, German invasion of Poland, Phony War, Battle of Britain, Fall of France, Holocaust, Kristallnacht, Siege of Leningrad, Battle of Stalingrad, D-Day, Battle of Bulge, Germany’s surrender, Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Bataan Death March, Battle of Midway, and the Nuclear bombing of Japan. I kind of wanted the story to be about two best friends who enlist in the war together, and fight in all these battles, and in the last battle they fight together, one of them accidentally kills the other because he thought he was an Allie and then kills himself because he can’t live with the guilt and can’t take the war. Is that a good idea? Does anyone have any other suggestions?

0Kristallnacht (German pronunciation: [k??s?tal?naxt]; literally “Crystal night”) or the Night of Broken Glass was an anti-Jewish pogrom in Nazi Germany and Austria on 9 to 10 November 1938. It is also known as Novemberpogrome, Reichskristallnacht, Reichspogromnacht or Pogromnacht in German.
1Kristallnacht was triggered by the assassination of German diplomat Ernst vom Rath by Herschel Grynszpan, a German-born Polish Jew. In a coordinated attack on Jewish people and their property, 99 Jews were murdered and 25,000 to 30,000 were arrested and placed in concentration camps. 267 synagogues were destroyed and thousands of homes and businesses were ransacked. This was done by the Hitler Youth, Gestapo, SS and SA. Kristallnacht also served as a pretext and a means for the wholesale confiscation of firearms from German Jews.
2While the assassination of Rath served as a pretext for the attacks, Kristallnacht was part of a broader Nazi policy of antisemitism and persecution of the Jews. Kristallnacht was followed by further economic and political persecutions and is viewed by many historians as the beginning of the Final Solution, leading towards the genocide of the Holocaust.
3In the 1920s, most German Jews were fully integrated into German society as German citizens. They served in the German army and navy and contributed to every field of German science, business and culture. Conditions began to change after the election of the Nazi party on January 30, 1933 and the assumption of power by Adolf Hitler after the Reichstag fire. From its inception, Hitler’s regime moved quickly to introduce anti-Jewish policies. The 500,000 Jews in Germany, who accounted for only 0.76% of the overall population, were singled out by the Nazi propaganda machine as an enemy within who were responsible for Germany’s defeat in the First World War, and for her subsequent economic difficulties, such as the 1920s hyperinflation and Great Depression. Beginning in 1933, the German government enacted a series of anti-Jewish laws restricting the rights of German Jews to earn a living, to enjoy full citizenship and to educate themselves, including the Law for the Restoration of the Professional Civil Service, which forbade Jews from working in the civil service. The subsequent 1935 Nuremberg Laws stripped German Jews of their citizenship and forbade Jews from marrying Germans.
4The result of these laws was the exclusion of Jews from German social and political life. Many sought asylum abroad; thousands did manage to leave, but as Chaim Weizmann wrote in 1936, “The world seemed to be divided into two parts — those places where the Jews could not live and those where they could not enter.” In an attempt to provide help an international conference was held on July 6, 1938 to address the issue of Jewish and Gypsy immigration to other countries. By the time the conference was held, more than 250,000 Jews had fled Germany and Austria, which had been annexed by Germany in March 1938. However, more than 300,000 German and Austrian Jews were still seeking shelter from oppression. As the number of Jews and Gypsies wanting to leave grew, the restrictions against them also grew with many countries tightening their rules for admission.
5By 1938, Germany “had entered a new radical phase in anti-Semitic activity.” Some historians believe that the Nazi government had been contemplating a planned outbreak of violence against the Jews and were waiting for an appropriate provocation; there is evidence of this planning dating to 1937. The Zionist leadership in Palestine wrote in February 1938 that according to “a very reliable private source – one which can be traced back to the highest echelons of the SS leadership” there was “an intention to carry out a genuine and dramatic pogrom in Germany on a large scale in the near future.”
6In August 1938 the German authorities announced that residence permits for foreigners were being cancelled and would have to be renewed. This included German-born Jews of foreign origin. Poland stated that it would not accept Jews of Polish origin after the end of October. On October 28, 1938, more than 12,000 Polish-born Jews were expelled from Germany on Hitler’s orders. They were ordered to leave their homes in a single night, and were only allowed one suitcase per person to store their belongings. As the Jews were taken away, their remaining possessions were seized as booty by both the Nazi authorities and by their neighbors.
7The deportees were taken from their homes to railway stations and were put on trains to the Polish border. The Polish border guards sent them back over the river into Germany. This stalemate continued for days in the pouring rain, with the Jews marching without food or shelter between the borders. Four thousand were granted entry into Poland but the remaining 8,000 were forced to stay at the border. They waited there in harsh conditions to be allowed to enter Poland. A British newspaper told its readers that hundreds “are reported to be lying about, penniless and deserted, in little villages along the frontier near where they had been driven out by the Gestapo and left.” Conditions in the refugee camps “were so bad that some actually tried to escape back into Germany and were shot,” recalled a British woman who was sent to help those who had been expelled.
8Among the expelled was the family of Sendel and Rivka Grynszpan, Polish Jews who had emigrated to Germany in 1911 and settled in Hanover. Their seventeen-year-old son, Herschel was living in Paris with an uncle. His sister, Berta, sent him a postcard from the Polish border describing the family’s expulsion: “No one told us what was up, but we realised this was going to be the end… We haven’t a penny. Could you send us something?”
9Grynszpan received his sister’s postcard on November 3. On the morning of Monday, November 7, he purchased a revolver and a box of bullets. Grynszpan then went to the German embassy, asked to see an embassy official, and was taken to the office of Ernst vom Rath. Entering vom Rath’s office, Grynszpan shot him three times in the abdomen. He made no attempt to escape the French police and freely confessed to the shooting. In his pocket, he carried a postcard to his parents with the message “May God forgive me… I must protest so that the whole world hears my protest, and that I will do.”
10On November 8, Germany announced the first punitive measures in response to the shooting. Jewish newspapers and magazines were to cease publication immediately. This ban cut off Jews from their leadership, whose task was to advise and guide them, particularly about emigration. It was a measure, one British newspaper explained, “intended to disrupt the Jewish community and rob it of the last frail ties which hold it together.” There were at the time three German Jewish newspapers with a national circulation, four cultural papers, several sports papers, and several dozen community bulletins, of which the one in Berlin had a circulation of 40,000. It was also announced that Jewish children could no longer attend German state elementary schools, something that had been allowed where there were not sufficient Jewish elementary schools. All Jewish cultural activities were also suspended indefinitely. Their rights as citizens had been stripped.
11Vom Rath died of his wounds on November 9. Word of his death reached Hitler that evening while he was at a dinner commemorating the 1923 Beer Hall Putsch with several key members of the Nazi party. After intense conversation, Hitler left the assembly abruptly without giving his usual address. Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels delivered the speech instead, in which he commented that “the Fuhrer has decided that… demonstrations should not be prepared or organised by the party, but insofar as they erupt spontaneously, they are not to be hampered.” Chief party judge Walter Buch later stated that the message was clear; with these words Goebbels had commanded the party leaders to organise a pogrom.
12Some leading party officials disagreed with Goebbels’s actions, fearing the diplomatic crisis it would provoke. Heinrich Himmler wrote “I suppose that it is Goebbels’s megalomania…and stupidity which are responsible for starting this operation now, in a particularly difficult diplomatic situation.” Historian Friedlander believes that Goebbels had personal reasons for wanting to bring about Kristallnacht. Goebbels had recently suffered humiliation for the ineffectiveness of his propaganda campaign during the Sudeten crisis, and was in some disgrace over an affair with the Czech actress Lida Baarova. Goebbels thus needed a chance to prove himself in the eyes of Hitler.
13At 1:20am on November 10, 1938, Reinhard Heydrich sent an urgent secret telegram to the state police and the SA containing instructions regarding the riots. This included guidelines for the protection of foreigners and non-Jewish businesses and property. Police were instructed not to interfere with the riots unless the guidelines were violated. Police were also instructed to seize Jewish archives from synagogues and community offices, and to arrest and detain “healthy male Jews, who are not too old,” for eventual transfer to concentration camps.
14The timing of the riots varied from unit to unit. The Gauleiters started at about 10:30pm, only two hours after news of vom Rath’s death reached Germany. They were followed by the SA at 11pm, and the SS at around 1:20am. Most were wearing civilian clothes and were armed with sledgehammers and axes, and soon went to work on the destruction of Jewish property. The orders given to these men were very specific, however: no measures endangering non-Jewish German life or property were to be taken (synagogues too close to non-Jewish property were smashed rather than burned); Jewish businesses or dwellings could be destroyed but not looted; foreigners (even Jewish foreigners) were not to be the subjects of violence; and synagogue archives were to be transferred to the SD. The men were also ordered to arrest as many Jews as the local jails would hold, the preferred targets being healthy young men.
15The SA shattered the storefronts of about 7500 Jewish stores and businesses, hence the appellation Kristallnacht (Crystal Night). Jewish homes were ransacked all throughout Germany. Although violence against Jews had not been explicitly condoned by the authorities, there were cases of Jews being beaten or assaulted.
16This pogrom damaged, and in many cases destroyed, about 200 synagogues (constituting nearly all Germany had), many Jewish cemeteries, more than 7,000 Jewish shops, and 29 department stores. Some Jews were beaten to death while others were forced to watch. More than 30,000 Jewish men were arrested and taken to concentration camps; primarily Dachau, Buchenwald, and Sachsenhausen. The treatment of prisoners in the camps was brutal, but most were released during the following three months on condition that they leave Germany.
17The number of German Jews killed is uncertain. The number killed in the two-day riot is most often cited as 91. In addition, it is thought that there were hundreds of suicides. Counting deaths in the concentration camps, around 2,000-2,500 deaths were directly or indirectly attributable to the Kristallnacht pogrom. A few non-Jewish Germans, mistaken for Jews, were also killed.
18The synagogues, some centuries old, were also victims of considerable violence and vandalism, with the tactics the Stormtroops practiced on these and other sacred sites described as “approaching the ghoulish” by the United States Consul in Leipzig. Tombstones were uprooted and graves violated. Fires were lit, and prayer books, scrolls, artwork and philosophy texts were thrown upon them, and precious buildings were either burned or smashed until unrecognisable. Eric Lucas recalls the destruction of the synagogue that a tiny Jewish community had constructed in a small village only twelve years earlier:
19It did not take long before the first heavy grey stones came tumbling down, and the children of the village amused themselves as they flung stones into the many coloured windows. When the first rays of a cold and pale November sun penetrated the heavy dark clouds, the little synagogue was but a heap of stone, broken glass and smashed-up woodwork.’
20After this, the Jewish community was fined 1 billion reichsmarks. In addition, it cost 4 million marks to repair the windows.
21Events in only recently annexed Austria were no less horrendous. Of the entire Kristallnacht only the pogrom in Vienna was completely successful. Most of Vienna’s 94 synagogues and prayer-houses were partially or totally destroyed. People were subjected to all manner of humiliations, including being forced to scrub the pavements whilst being tormented by their fellow Austrians, some of whom had been their friends and neighbours.
22Official figures released after the event by Reinhard Heydrich stated that 191 Synagogues were destroyed, with 76 completely demolished; 100,000 Jews were arrested; three foreigners were arrested; 174 people were arrested for looting Jewish shops; and 815 Jewish businesses were destroyed.
23The Daily Telegraph correspondent, Hugh Carleton Greene, wrote of events in Berlin:
24Mob law ruled in Berlin throughout the afternoon and evening and hordes of hooligans indulged in an orgy of destruction. I have seen several anti-Jewish outbreaks in Germany during the last five years, but never anything as nauseating as this. Racial hatred and hysteria seemed to have taken complete hold of otherwise decent people. I saw fashionably dressed women clapping their hands and screaming with glee, while respectable middle-class mothers held up their babies to see the “fun”.
25One of the significant purposes of Kristallnacht was the explicit disarmament of the German Jews. The SA were under orders to confiscate all Jewish owned firearms. The order was issued “[a]ll Jews are to be disarmed. In the event of resistance they are to be shot immediately.”
26The violence was officially called to a stop by Goebbels on November 11, but violence continued against the Jews in the concentration camps despite orders requesting “special treatment” to ensure that this did not happen. On November 23 the News Chronicle newspaper of London published an article on an incident at one concentration camp Sachsenhausen. Sixty-two Jews suffered punishment so severe that the police “unable to bear their cries, turned their backs”. They were beaten until they fell, and when they fell, they were further beaten. For half an hour they were submitted to this “orgy” of violence. At the end of it, “twelve of the sixty-two were dead, their skulls smashed. The others were all unconscious. The eyes of some had been knocked out, their faces flattened and shapeless”. The 30,000 Jewish men who had been imprisoned during Kristallnacht were released over the next three months, but by then over 2,000 had died.
27Top Nazi official Hermann Goring met with other members of the Nazi leadership on November 12 to plan the next steps after the riot, setting the stage for formal government action. In the transcript of the meeting Goring said,
28‘I have received a letter written on the Fuhrer’s orders requesting that the Jewish question be now, once and for all, coordinated and solved one way or another… I should not want to leave any doubt, gentlemen, as to the aim of today’s meeting. We have not come together merely to talk again, but to make decisions, and I implore competent agencies to take all measures for the elimination of the Jew from the German economy, and to submit them to me.’
29The persecution and economic damage done to German Jews did not stop with the pogrom, even as their places of business were ransacked. They were also forced to pay “Judenvermogensabgabe”, a collective fine of 1 billion Marks for the murder of vom Rath (equal to roughly $US 5.5 billion in today’s currency), which was levied by the compulsory acquisition of 20% of all Jewish property by the state. Six million deutchmarks of insurance payments for property damage due to the Jewish community were to be paid to the government instead as “damages to the German Nation”.
30The number of emigrating Jews surged as those who were able left the country, and this was a desirable outcome for the Nazi party. In the ten months following Kristallnacht, more than 115,000 Jews emigrated from the Reich. The majority went to other European countries, the US and Palestine, and at least 14,000 made it to Shanghai. As part of government policy, the Nazis seized houses, shops, and other property the emigres left behind.
31Many of the destroyed remains of Jewish property plundered during Kristallnacht was dumped at a site near Brandenburg, north of Berlin. This dumpsite was discovered by Yaron Svoray, an investigative journalist, in October of 2008. The site, which is the size of four American football fields, contains an extensive array of personal and ceremonial items looted during the riots against Jewish property and places of worship on the night of 9 November 1938. It is believed the goods were brought by rail to the outskirts of the village and dumped on designated land. Among the items found were glass bottles engraved with the Star of David, mezuzot, painted window sills, and the armrests of chairs found in synagogues, in addition to an ornamental swastika.
32The reaction of non-Jewish Germans to Kristallnacht was varied. Martin Gilbert believes that “many non-Jews resented the round up”, his opinion being supported by German witness Dr. Arthur Flehinger who recalls seeing “people crying while watching from behind their curtains”. Some even went as far as to help Jews, but the majority merely sat inside watching. Other non-Jewish Germans took part in the violence, as it was not just Stormtroopers rioting. Evidence of this can be established in that riots broke out on the night of November 7 and continued in some places after the pogrom was called to a halt; thus it may be surmised that these successive actions were not those of the Nazis. Also, several sources mention women and children as participating in the riots, and these were clearly not Stormtroopers but ordinary citizens. The number of German citizens involved in the riots is impossible to know, as many Stormtroopers were wearing civilian clothes and were thus indistinguishable.
33Bishop Martin Sasse, a leading Protestant churchman, published a compendium of Martin Luther’s writings shortly after the Kristallnacht; Sasse “applauded the burning of the synagogues” and the coincidence of the day, writing in the introduction, “On November 10, 1938, on Luther’s birthday, the synagogues are burning in Germany.” The German people, he urged, ought to heed these words “of the greatest anti-Semite of his time, the warner of his people against the Jews.” Diarmaid MacCulloch argued that Luther’s 1543 pamphlet On the Jews and Their Lies was a “blueprint” for the Kristallnacht.
34In an article released for publication on the evening of November 11, Goebbels ascribed the events of Kristallnacht to the “healthy instincts” of the German people. He went on to explain: “The German people are anti-Semitic. It has no desire to have its rights restricted or to be provoked in the future by parasites of the Jewish race.”

40The Kristallnacht pogrom sparked international outrage. It discredited pro-Nazi movements in Europe and North America, leading to eventual decline of their support. Many newspapers condemned Kristallnacht, with some comparing it to the murderous pogroms incited by Imperial Russia in the 1880s. The United States recalled its ambassador (but did not break off diplomatic relations) while other governments severed diplomatic relations with Germany in protest. The British government approved the Kindertransport program for refugee children.
41As such, Kristallnacht also marked a turning point in relations between Nazi Germany and the rest of the world. The brutality of the program and the Nazi government’s deliberate policy of encouraging the violence once it had begun, laid bare the repressive nature and widespread anti-Semitism entrenched in Germany, and turned world opinion sharply against the Nazi regime, with some politicians even calling for war.
42Kristallnacht changed the nature of persecution from economic, political, and social to the physical with beatings, incarceration, and murder; the event is often referred to as the beginning of the Holocaust. In the words of historian Max Rein in 1988, “Kristallnacht came…and everything was changed.”
43While November 1938 predated overt articulation of “the Final Solution,” it nonetheless foreshadowed the genocide to come. Around the time of Kristallnacht, the SS newspaper “Das Schwarze Korps” called for a “destruction by swords and flames.” At a conference on the day after the pogrom, Hermann Goring said: “The Jewish problem will reach its solution if, in any time soon, we will be drawn into war beyond our border—then it is obvious that we will have to manage a final account with the Jews.”
44Specifically, the Nazis managed to achieve in Kristallnacht all the theoretical targets they set for themselves: confiscation of Jewish belongings to provide finances for the military buildup to war, separation and isolation of the Jews, wholesale disarmament of the Jews through the confiscation of Jewish owned firearms, and most importantly, the move from the anti-Semitic policy of discrimination to one of physical damage, which began that night and continued until the end of World War II.
45The event nonetheless showed the public attitude was not solidly behind the perpetrators. Many Germans at the time found the pogroms troubling, as they equated them with the days of the SA street rule and lawlessness. The British Embassy at Berlin and British Consular offices throughout Germany received many protests and expressions of disquiet from members of the German public about the anti-Jewish actions of the time.
46The incident was originally referred to as die Kristallnacht (literally “crystal night” or the “night of the broken glass”), alluding to the enormous number of shop windows (mostly at Jewish-owned stores) that were broken that night.
47The prefix Reichs – (imperial) was later added (Reichskristallnacht) as a sardonic comment on the Nazis’ propensity to add this prefix to various terms and titles like Reichsfuhrer-SS (Himmler) or Reichsmarschall Goring. This was also done in other contexts to ridicule and criticize aspects of the Nazi dictatorship (e.g. Reichswasserleiche – “National Drowned Body” for actress Kristina Soderbaum, who frequently played tragic heroines in her husband Veit Harlan’s anti-Semitic melodramas, two of whom committed suicide by drowning.)
48Many decades later, association with the Kristallnacht anniversary was cited as the main reason against choosing November 9 (“Schicksalstag”), the day the Berlin Wall came down in 1989, as the new German national holiday; a different day was chosen (October 3, 1990, German reunification).
49Avant-garde guitarist Gary Lucas’s 1988 composition “Verklarte Kristallnacht”, which juxtaposes the Israeli national anthem, “Hatikvah,” with phrases from “Deutschland Uber Alles” amid wild electronic shrieks and noise, is intended to be a sonic representation of the horrors of Kristallnacht. It was premiered at the 1988 Berlin Jazz Festival and received rave reviews. Als Behinderter hat man immer Schwierigkeiten einen Job zu finden. Es gibt zwar eine Quote, aber die ist meist übererfüllt und diese dauerhafte Verantwortung übernimmt kein Arbeitgeber gerne.

Gerrit ist sauer. Er er will für seinen Job vernünftig  bezahlt werden und Typen, die für zu wenig Tacken arbeiten versauen alles. 1.100 € brutto ist zu wenig- das ist die neue These!

In Germany there are big events and parties taking place today, especially in Berlin, to celebrate the 9th of November – as the 20th re-union day of the BRD and the DDR.

But there is no big or official event mourning the 71th return of one of the most dreadful days in German history – the Reichskristallnacht.

This day started as a pogrom against all Jewish people in the Third Reich – and led to the Shoa and the destruction of a whole continent.

Several weeks after the Reichskristallnacht the Nazis opened the concentration camp Neuengamme in Hamburg, Germany. It was the biggest KZ in the north of Germany and around 100.400 people were detained here. They were primarily people from the occupied countries who were forced to work in the German war industries. This work was aimed at destroying the prisoners – physically and psychically. More than 51.000 people died. At least 16.000 people were killed in the last days of the war in so-called death-marches and “Sterbelager”.

The photos were shot in this KZ-Area. They seem unremarkable and could have been taken anywhere in Germany. And that is the point of it. The KZs were widely known to the Germans– and without the massive support of the Germans the aim of totally annihilating of the Jews (and after a foreseen victory in the war also the extermination of half of the East-Europe population) could never have been carried through. The unspeakable came out of the center of this country – and the masses willingly supported such aims up to the last days of the Third Reich – as Goldhagen has shown it in his book “Hitler’s Willing Executioners”.

We should never forget… and we should know, that anti-Semitism and racism comes not from the edges of our society, but directly from the so-called “middle” of it!

I morgon ska till exempel Kristallnatten högtidlighållas i Stora Gogan.

Nassarna startade en pogrom i Berlin och runt om i Tyskland. Ett hundratal judar dödades, 20 000-30 000 arresterades och fördes till koncentrationsläger, 267 synagogor brändes och över 7 500 butiker vandaliserades.

Min farsa var bara sexton år när han som ung judegrabb tvingades uppleva detta. Hans liv kastades över ända och han tvingades fly till Sverige och tryggheten med sina föräldrar.

Och ändå är jag mer än lovligt ointresserad av att högtidlighålla denna förfärliga händelse.

Egyptian security forces have intensified their presence in the Upper Egyptian town of Dairout, in anticipation of a recurrence of Muslim violence against Christians. Copts expressed their fear over leaflets entitled “These have to Die!” which are being distributed to all Muslims in Dairout and neighborhoods, enticing them to “burn, vandalize and clean the country of these evil immoral infidels.”

Reports from Dairout, 313 km south of Cairo, confirm that Christian Copts are afraid to leave their homes and have stayed indoors since violence against them erupted on October 24, 2009. This collective punishment of Copts was caused by an illicit sexual relationship between a Muslim girl, Hagger Hassouna, and the Christian Romany Farouk Attallah. It was rumored that he sent videos of them intimately together to cell phones in Dairout before fleeing. This prompted the Hassouna family to kill his father, Farouk Attallah, on October 19, 2009, in revenge. Four of the Hassouna killers were detained by prosecution, leading to Muslim riots against the Copts (AINA 10-27-2009) .

According to Wagih Yacoub of the Middle East Christian Assosiation (MECA), Muslim-owned businesses are now displaying stickers with ‘Allah Akbar’ (Allah is Great) to differentiate between them and Coptic-owned businesses, as a form of pre-planning for a forthcoming wave of Muslim violence.

Handwritten leaflets (Arabic) have been circulated among Muslims in Dairout for the last two days; they call on Muslims to unite to take revenge for their religion and honor, claiming that Hagger Hassouna is innocent and that she was forced into vice, and “all Jews and Christians should come to learn that Muslim honor is precious.” The fliers state that Muslims are the masters of the world since beginning of times until the present day, and entices them to “burn and vandalize and clean the country of the evil immoral infidels.”

Granted, if the rumors about Attallah are true, then he’s a swine. (And I hate to think what the poor girl’s family did to her, given Islam’s notorious treatment of women.) But is it a justification for punishment of an entire community? Maybe that’s easy to accept, when your religion tells you that Believers are supreme and all others are to be submissive, humble and humiliated.

LAST week was a bad, bad week for South Africa. It began badly and it ended badly, with ominous import for the future.The perceived danger is that the state — that great organ of coercion, Friedrich Engels’s “bodies of armed men” — is being degraded into an instrument of brutality and self-enrichment, to the advantage of certain selfish sectional interests, as a kind of Mafia. One has every reason to fear this.

If this were so, it would amount to a betrayal of the anti-tribalist heritage of the African National Congress from the time of its foundation as the Native National Congress in 1912, and prior to that, of the ethics of Mahatma Gandhi’s initiation of modern liberation politics in southern Africa in the years between 1906 and 1914.

The events of last week suggest that the ANC which opposed the anti-Indian pogroms in Durban in 1949 is no more, or at least is morally decayed.

Local ANC political bosses in Durban have endorsed and shielded, even if there were to be proof that they had indeed not initiated, a xenophobic and murderous pogrom launched on the nights of September 27 and September 28 against a peaceable community of shack dwellers, the Abahlali baseMjondolo, who quite properly include a number of Xhosa- speaking residents, at Kennedy Road in the Durban area, as reported last week.

There is no excuse for anyone who claims to be a democrat in South Africa not to condemn the local ANC state authorities in KwaZulu-Natal for their brutalist support for the pogromists, and there is no excuse not to provide support to the victims. Local state authorities arrested and traduced the innocent, and permitted the guilty to escape.

In a statement issued on October 1, Archbishop Thabo Makgoba, the Anglican Archbishop of Cape Town, supported the brave and principled condemnation of this outrage by Bishop Rubin Phillip, the Anglican Bishop of KwaZulu-Natal, who has provided an outstanding example. Archbishop Makgoba said: “I share Bishop Rubin Phillip’s view that it is a profound disgrace to democracy, that militia have been allowed to drive out the leaders of the Abahlali baseMjondolo movement, and many hundreds of families with them.”

He continued: “When we remember how much we suffered, and how hard we struggled, in order to ensure that an armed minority could no longer exert oppression and deny freedom of speech, of opinions and of dissent, it is completely unacceptable that such intolerance should rear its head again in a different political guise.”

It was bad enough that the week began with a pogrom endorsed and shielded by local political and state authorities.

What followed at the end of the week made clear, however, how certain narrow, private and sectional interests now dominate the state in its most crucial department for actual and potential political control of the population, its secret intelligence services. On October 2, President Jacob Zuma promoted Mo Shaik —  brother of the more famous Schabir Shaik, released by Zuma on alleged health grounds from a 15-year prison sentence for corruption — to head of Secret Services in a reorganised, centralised and more powerful State Security Agency.

The worthiness of Mo Shaik for control over the secret services of the state may be judged from his political and family connections.

Paul Holden provides an easily accessible profile in The Arms Deal in your Pocket (Jonathan Ball Publishers, 2008), which states:

“Shaik, Mo: former head of ANC intelligence in SA, Shaik claimed in 2003 that Bulelani Ngcuka had acted as an apartheid spy, a charge later dismissed by the Hefer Commission of Inquiry. He admitted under testimony during the Hefer hearings that he had made the allegations against Ngcuka in order to protect the honour of Jacob Zuma. He is brother to Schabir, Chippy and Yunus Shaik.” (pp.272-73, Appendix A).

Holden’s biographical note on Mo Shaik’s brother Chippy reads as follows:

“Shaik, Shamin ‘Chippy’: A key mover and shaker in the arms deal. Chippy Shaik was appointed as the chief of acquisitions for the Department of Defence in 1998, and was a key player in the evaluation process that led to the eventual selection of the preferred suppliers in the arms deal.

“In 2001, the Joint Investigation Report slammed Shaik for failing to recuse himself from meetings at which the selection of [his brother] Schabir Shaik’s African Defence System as a subcontractor to supply the information management system for the corvettes was discussed.

“He has subsequently been alleged to have received $3 million from a successful bidder in the arms deal, but has never been charged on any count of corruption. In 2008, Shaik’s PhD degree was withdrawn by the University of KwaZulu-Natal after it emerged that he had substantially plagiarised from other sources in writing his thesis.” (p.273, Appendix A).

It is public knowledge that Mo, Shamin, Schabir and Yunus Shaik were part of Zuma’s underground military and intelligence apparatus within Umkhonto We Sizwe in the Natal-KwaZulu area in the late eighties, during the last years of the apartheid regime, known as “Operation Bible”. At this time, Zuma was head of counterintelligence in the ANC’s feared Department of Intelligence and Security, known as iMbokodo, the grindstone. Schabir Shaik subsequently became Zuma’s personal financial adviser, extending to him significant unpaid loans.

The appointment of Mo Shaik to such a crucial position in the state inevitably recalls the judgment of Judge Hilary Squires in the Durban High Court in June 2005, when he found that the “payments [Schabir] Shaik admitted to having made to Zuma — and Zuma admitted to having received — were made ‘corruptly’, that his [Zuma’s] intention was to ‘use the weight of his political offices to protect or further [Schabir] Shaik’s business interests’.” (Padraig O’Malley, Shades of Difference: Mac Maharaj and the Struggle for South Africa, Viking/Penguin, 2007. pp.434-35).

O’Malley goes on to quote a comment by Yunus Shaik immediately following the conviction of Schabir. The passage states: “The Shaik brothers are unrepentant. ‘After the verdict’, says Yunus, ‘Mo and I discussed among ourselves whether Schabir could have done things differently. And we agreed … that he should have done what he did. He honoured the bonds of friendship. We are proud of our brother’.” (p.435)

This appointment recalls Zuma’s own aborted trial for corruption. It suggests that an improper degree of personal loyalty attaches this new spy chief to the old spy chief of the eighties, for perceived reasons of factional self-interest and in defiance of the criterion of the public interest. All semblance of civil service impartiality has been abandoned in this most partial and self-serving of appointments.

At the same time, the pogrom attacks at Kennedy Road, and the mendacious, menacing and insulting official responses from the local ANC authorities, cannot fail to suggest the possibility of a state programme of actual or implicit Zulu hegemony, carried out by means of brutal force and institutionalised corruption, to the benefit of Zuma’s intimate supporters. There is an exceptional weighting in this administration to political loyalties rooted in KwaZulu-Natal, and grounded in a noxious regional power apparatus, as the fate of Abahlali baseMjondolo shows.

In a country of historically fractious racial and ethnic divisions, this is a recipe for disaster that would make the late Mbeki administration, for all its entrenched self-interest, look by comparison like a haven of civil security.

If there was one matter which it was essential for Zuma to have made clear from the first days of his presidency, it was that there would be no ethnic favouritism in his administration. The entire political and constitutional fabric of South Africa is now threatened. So too are the traditional foundations of the two parties of government since 1994, the ANC and the SACP.

A recent comment by Richard Pithouse, of Abahlali baseMjondolo, is worth considering. In an article “Apartheid under a new guise”, on Times Live, Pithouse writes: “When society is very weak in relation to political elites, the point can be reached where politics, in its debased sense, no longer sees any need to hide its crude excesses. On the contrary, it tries to legitimate itself precisely via the public spectacle of its own power. There are occasions when we’ve come very close to this point …”

Shaik’s appointment as controller of the secret services would seem a further indication of this.

One applauds the example set by the leaders of the Anglican church in KwaZulu-Natal and in Cape Town, in opposing spiritual and moral principle to the conduct of this government. Any decent person should follow their lead. — Politicsweb.co.za

Osiem do zera Kolejarz żegna frajera, osiem do zera Kolejarz żegna frajera. Niestety tymi frajerami jesteśmy MY!!! Takimi mocnym słowami można określić naszą grę. Zajebista niedziela w naszym wykonaniu!!! Przypomniały mi się czasy jak graliśmy z Gulerem Katowice na Muchowcu. Tam można było zawsze poprawić sobie statystyki strzeleckie. Kolejarz nie zagrał super zawodów. To my zagraliśmy jak chłopy z palcu a nie jak drużyna zwłaszcza w drugiej połowie przegranej siedmioma bramkami. Współczuję naszemu trenerowi, że musi się za nas wstydzić. Mam nadzieję, że już po raz ostatni w tym sezonie. Panowie piłka nożna polega nie tylko na bieganiu, ale i na myśleniu również a tego drugiego niestety nam bardzo często ostatnio brakuje. Na Rapidzie rozegrał się dramat w dwóch aktach!!!

Iata o intrebare care o sa creasca tensiunea in multe persoane.

Raspunsul este:  depinde ce inseamna sau ce se intelege prin Holocaust.  Si mai departe trebuie sa se intrebe mai intai ce a generat aceste evenimente cu mult mai multa seriozitate decat se face acum.

Daca intrebi un evreu sa-ti spuna despre holocaust ar sta sa-ti explice si sa te educe cum si cati au fost ucisi , cum au fost omorati de Hitler si SS, unde au fost centrele de detentie, de gazare, gropile comune etc. Daca il intrebi insa de ce s-ar putea chiar sa nu stie nimic.

Si problema e in felul urmator: daca cei ce nu citesc istoria sunt obligati sa o repete atunci nu am facut nimic cu studiul acestui tragic eveniment daca nu ii studiem cauzele si premisele.

Sunt multe teorii care umbla printre istorici si o sa ma limitez aici doar la activitatile intreprinse in tara noastra. Primele semne de antisemitism apar imediat dupa primul razboi mondial cand dupa intregirea Romaniei razboiul continua inca-adevarat cu foarte mica intensitate,  la granita de est a Romaniei.  In tara lucrurile nu stateau chiar bine- problemele economice, si etnice erau in desfasurare.Practic romanul de rand era bombardat incontinuu cu stiri amenintatoare  si sentimentul ca este instaurata o stare de asediu.

Situatia se complica apoi pe fondul marii crize economice mondiale cand in popor incepuse sa se infiripe ideea de socialism, cand  noua clasa sociala si anume clasa muncitoare era deja formata.

Si aici avem doua factiuni. Unii erau muncitorii nesatisfacuti de salarii si saracie care incepusera sa fie coagulati de catre miscari comuniste carora le suradea modul de administrare sovietic. Acestia incep greve, demonstratii. Miscarile acestea erau conduse de catre etnici evrei.Evident ca nu toti evreii erau de acord cu paralizarea economiei-tind sa cred ca marea lor majoritate  nu erau de acord. Aceasta miscare este ajutata logistic si moral de catre Uniunea Sovietica din motive evidente prin educarea activistilor, sustinerea lor morala si chiar cu fonduri si carti tiparite de ei.

Ca o reactie normala apare o miscare opozanta acestor actiuni distructive si anume o miscare formata din muncitori care participasera la primul razboi mondial si care nu erau de acord cu faptul ca acesti revolutionari simpatizau cu dusmanii Romanilor. De ce spun  asta pentru ca incercarea de ocupar a Ardealului si ocuparea Ungariei de catre Romania s-a facut din cauza conducerii comuniste a lui Bela Kun. Si acestia isi exprimau clar ideologia socialista (a se intelege clar aici apararea intereselor clasei muncitoare) dar realizarea idealurilor lor in mod pasnic prin reprezentarea lor in parlament deci concomitent cu evolutia tarii, fara distrugeri si destabilizare si fara a crea pericolul alienarii teritoriale.  De aceea s-au si numit National Socialisti. Adevarul este ca aceasta miscare era mult mai mica decat cea comunista insa respectul pe care acestia il aveau datorita statutului de veteran de razboi a reusit sa incline balanta in fata lor.

Si aici a avut loc o scanteie. O scanteie care a dus pana la pogromul Odesa, cel mai mare pogrom antievreiesc si cel mai violent din totdeauna. Scanteia a fost ca national socialistii au observat faptul ca cei din conducerea comunistilor si ziarelor lor erau evrei. Au decis atunci ca anume evreii sunt antinationali si aserviti intereselor straine Romaniei si in defavoarea ei.

In mod logic o mare parte din evreime a sarit sa se apere si s-a raliat miscarii comuniste. De aici a aparut fenomenul de snowballing care nu ar fi mers intratat de departe daca un imbecil de ministru nu ar fi interzis emigrarea Aromanilor in Romania(ca erau saraci ) si a aprobat in acelasi timp emigrarea a 300 000 de evrei (ca erau bogati) prin aceasta dand dreptate national socialistilor ca evreii vor sa-i subjuge pe romani.

Apoi la ocuparea Basarabiei evreii au inceput un pogrom barbar si criminal impotriva Romanilor care nu se retrasesera ca raspuns la suferintele pe care le indurasera, lucru care le-a pecetluit soarta in momentul ofensivei Barbarosa si climaxul de la Odesa unde romanii s-au razbunat in cel mai barbar mod posibil.

Trebuie insa sa avem in vedere un lucru, toate aceste evenimente s-au desfasurat intr-o perioada de razboi si repetarea lor nu se va mai intampla niciodata, iar acuzatiile de antisemitism care se aduc romanilor sunt tot atat de adevarate ca si acuzatiile de antiromanism aduse evreilor bolsevici.

Das von Deutschen an Juden im 20. Jahrhundert Verbrochene hat die Beziehungen zwischen beiden Kollektivitäten seit 1945 nachhaltig geprägt. Die Feststellung ist trivial: Zu erdrückend das Grauen des »Zivilisationsbruches«, zu unfaßbar »das schwarze Loch Auschwitz«, als daß es anders hätte sein können. Die Ohnmacht der Begriffslosigkeit fürs präzedenzlose Ereignis griff indes so sehr um sich, daß die Monstrosität des jüngst Geschehenen zunächst von beiden Kollektivitäten weitgehend beschwiegen wurde. Ob dies Beschweigen seine Notwendigkeit darin hatte, daß es für Überlebende wie Täter möglicherweise zu früh war, sich dem Unfaßbaren zu stellen, muß hier unerörtert bleiben. Psychisch – auch kollektivpsychisch – ist durchaus nachvollziehbar, daß der »Neubeginn« für Täter und Opfer, das Aufschlagen einer »neuen Seite« im je eigenen Leben als Individuen oder als Gesellschaft, mit einer zumindest temporären Geschichtsvergessenheit einherging. Das muß man nicht goutieren, um es dennoch begreifen zu können.

Über diese elementare Einsicht hinaus ist allerdings bis heute unreflektiert geblieben, daß die Beziehungen zwischen Juden und Deutschen seit 1945 einem spezifischen Tabu unterworfen wurden, namentlich dem eines für moralisch ausgegebenen Paradigmas. Das mag sich zunächst selbstverständlich ausnehmen: Wo die historische Rollenverteilung von Tätern und Opfern so eindeutig in Erscheinung getreten war, wo die von Menschen an Menschen begangenen Gewaltverbrechen so unerhört gewesen waren, zwingt sich die Sinnwelt von Schuld, Schuldzuweisung und Schuldbekenntnis nachgerade von selbst auf. Und doch darf in Zweifel gezogen werden, daß Moral der Auseinandersetzung mit der Unsäglichkeit von Auschwitz je adäquat war. Nicht von ungefähr hat gerade Adorno, der den neuen kategorischen Imperativ für die Menschen »nach Auschwitz« formulierte – »ihr Denken und Handeln so einzurichten, daß Auschwitz nicht sich wiederhole, nichts Ähnliches geschehe« –, die diskursive Begründung dieses Postulats infrage gestellt, indem er aufs Geistferne, den »unerträglichen physischen Schmerz«, verwies, und Moral, wenn überhaupt, nur im Abscheu vor diesem, also im schieren Materiellen, zulassen wollte: »Nur im ungeschminkt materialistischen Motiv überlebt Moral«. Das hatte viel mit der Forderung einer Einrichtung von Gesellschaft, in der die sozialen Strukturen von Herrschaft und Gewalt historisch überwunden wären, zu tun. Was aber konnte dies für die konkrete Beziehung zwischen Deutschen und Juden »nach Auschwitz« bedeuten? Welche andere Maßgabe durfte man ihr entnehmen, als die triviale, daß Juden von deutscher Hand kein Leid mehr widerfahren dürfe? Und weil die Banalität dieser Konsequenz zum Himmel schrie, der Beginn der »Aufarbeitung der Vergangenheit« zudem noch in weiter Ferne lag, tabuisierte man das Moralische, indem man es im Dunstbereich des Unberührbaren, mithin Unreflektierbaren beließ, »die Juden«, die ja aus Deutschland verschwunden waren, abstrahierte und die Beziehung zu ihnen auf eine Ebene lenkte, die sich im Wortsinne auszahlte.

Die 1948 erfolgte Errichtung Israels als Judenstaat spielte in diesem Zusammenhang eine gravierende Rolle. Daß die BRD diese nationale Neugründung als Partner zur Aushandlung eines Tauschwerts für das zu »bewältigende« historische Grauen auserkor, galt von Anbeginn als unhinterfragbar. Der bedenkenswerte Umstand, daß es sich bei Israel um einen Staat handelte, der zur Zeit des Menschheitsverbrechens noch gar nicht existiert hatte, fern von den Orten der Verbrechen errichtet wurde und nachmals nur einen Teil der überlebenden Opfer zu seinen Bürgern zählen sollte, wurde von der geschichtsträchtigen zionistischen Deutung des Gründungsaktes als Erschaffung einer nationalen Zufluchtsstätte für das verfolgte jüdische Volk, dessen historische Leiderfahrung in Auschwitz zur Kulmination gelangt war, ideologisch verschlungen. Die Shoah hatte sozusagen den empirischen »Beweis« für die Berechtigung des zionistischen Postulats einer Aufhebung allen jüdischen Lebens in der Diaspora erbracht, mithin die Ausrufung eines Judenstaates zur geschichtlichen Notwendigkeit werden lassen.

Nur verständlich also, daß man sich beidseitig auf den Handel einließ: Deutschland zahlte, und Israel ließ sich bezahlen. In der spezifischen Konstellation jener Tage war besagte Instrumentalisierung von Vergangenem für ein Gegenwärtiges, das sich dem jüngst Geschehenen zu entschlagen suchte, vielleicht sogar unumgehbare Notwendigkeit. Zu verurteilen war dies nur sehr bedingt. Nur muß man sich dabei stets klar vor Augen halten, daß das, was als Basis der Beziehung beider Staaten gelegt worden war, mutatis mutandis auch das Grundmuster für die folgenden Jahrzehnte geschaffen und verfestigt hat. Beziehungen, die auf zweckrationalem Tausch basieren und objektiv vorherrschende Ressentiments, Mißtrauen und Haß bewußt in Klammern setzen, dürfen nicht als etwas apostrophiert sein, was sie nicht sind und vielleicht über viele weitere Jahrzehnte nicht sein werden: Sie haben nichts mit Moral zu tun, sondern nur mit ihrer Ideologisierung und der Verdinglichung von Schuld, Schande und Scham durchs Tauschprinzip, das tendenziell alles austauschbar werden läßt. Wenn also die deutsche Kanzlerin im Jahre 2008 vor der israelischen Knesset proklamiert, die historische Verantwortung, mithin Israels Sicherheit, sei Teil der Staatsräson ihres Landes, dann stimmt das insofern, als dieses Ideologem in der Tat die Politrhetorik (West)deutschlands in den letzten 60 Jahren bestimmte, ist aber im übrigen hohles Gerede: Deutschland hat die Möglichkeit, seine historische Verantwortung (Juden gegenüber) zu bezeugen, sechsmillionenfach verwirkt; es kann (an Juden) nichts »wiedergutmachen«, schon gar nicht, wenn es meint, »Juden« mit »Israel« gleichsetzen bzw. umtauschen zu dürfen. Was Deutschland kann, ist, funktionale bilaterale Beziehungen zu Israel unterhalten, wobei noch zu erörtern wäre, was für ein »Israel« in diesem Zusammenhang gemeint ist: das reale Israel, das unter anderem seit über vierzig Jahren ein brutales Okkupationsregime betreibt, mithin von großen Widersprüchen und Zerrissenheiten durchsetzt ist, oder das »Israel«, das sich abstrakt aus der »historischen Verantwortung« (den »Juden« gegenüber) ableitet, daher auch als Abstraktes zur Projektionsfläche für Befindlichkeiten von Deutschen, die mitunter noch immer nicht wissen, wo sie mit der »Dauerpräsentation unserer Schande« (Walser) hin sollen, gerät.

Das will mitnichten besagen, daß es keine alternative, kleininstitutionelle, private und individuelle Auseinandersetzungen mit der verbrecherischen deutschen Vergangenheit und den aus ihr bezogenen Moralkategorien gegeben habe. Die nicht zuletzt lebensweltlich bedeutende historische Leistung von »Aktion Sühnezeichen« soll nicht in Abrede gestellt werden. Ja, man kann durchaus auch die zentrale Ausrichtung der massenbewegten studentischen Revolten in der BRD der 1960er Jahre dazu zählen (zumindest die Fragen, die man diesbezüglich an die wirtschaftswunderlich »normalisierte« Generation der Eltern zu stellen wagte). Aber selbst die ehrlich Bemühten und Wohlmeinenden kamen nicht aus dem Zirkel des in den Anfangsjahren Israels und Westdeutschlands richtungsweisend etablierten Musters von zweckrationalem Tausch, befindlichkeitsgesteuerter Projektion und zu starrer Ideologie verkommener Moral heraus. Und wenn heute sogenannte Antideutsche glauben, ihre nationalen Identitätsprobleme als in Deutschland lebende Deutsche durch eine überspannte »Israel-Solidarität«, abstruses Schwenken von Israel-Fahnen und sonstiges ideologisches Getue, das durch ein falsch verstandenes Nie-wieder-Deutschland über »Israel« an den »Juden« etwas historisch »wiedergutzumachen« vermeint, überwinden zu können, dann sind das im besten Fall gutwillige Ignoranten, im großen Ganzen aber doch eher Gesinnungsschmarotzer, die ihr unreflektiertes Identitäts- und Befindlichkeitsdefizit in eine moralisch sich wähnende, letztlich regressive politische Reaktion kanalisieren, ohne sich bewußt zu werden, daß sie durch die Ersetzung des Antisemitismus durch Islamophobie gerade das Andenken jener mißbrauchen und kontaminieren, in deren Namen sie meinen, sprechen zu dürfen und derer sie sich projektiv bedienen, um sich selbst zu setzen.

Antisemitismus in diversen Formen gibt es in Deutschland, aber er ist ein gezügelter, weil tabuisierter Antisemitismus. Will man sich mit einem realen sozialen, freilich nicht nur Deutschland betreffenden Problem auseinandersetzen, so wären die gesellschaftlichen, ökonomischen und kulturellen Zusammenhänge der in Deutschland grassierenden Fremdenfeindschaft (samt der ihr inhärierenden rassistischen Tönungen) zu konfrontieren. Wenn nun aber der Bundestag meint, einen besonderen Antisemitismus-Beauftragten einsetzen zu sollen, dann scheint dies mit vielerlei zu tun zu haben, nur nicht mit einer vom real herrschenden Antisemitismus ausgehenden Bedrohung, geschweige denn mit einer ernstzunehmenden Absicht, diese zu bekämpfen. Denn der Antisemitismus läßt sich weder in Deutschland noch sonstwo in der Welt administrativ, mithin durch einen offiziell vollzogenen Verwaltungsakt, angehen. So wie sich das Stammtischgedröhn stets einen feuchten Kehricht um anti-antisemitische Gutmenschlichkeit deutscher Bürger geschert hat, so wird der latente oder auch manifeste Antisemitismus seine miese Fratze zu wahren wissen, ohne sich mit seinem bürokratisch-legalen Verbot anzulegen.

Indes, selbst die beabsichtigte Antisemitismus-Resolution des deutschen Bundestags fördert zutage, wes Geistes Kind hier am Walten ist und welche fremdbestimmten Motive die vermeintlich resolute politische Tathandlung antreiben: Bedrohung der Juden schon, Antisemitismusbekämpfung auch, aber doch nicht so sehr, daß man sich überwinden könnte, die Beteiligung der Linksfraktion an einer parteiübergreifenden Initiative zuzulassen. Antisemitische Kräfte gebe es in der Linkspartei, tönt es aus den Reihen der CDU. Gysi zeigt sich enttäuscht über das Verhalten von SPD, FDP und den Grünen. Und er hat allen Grund dazu: Haben nicht gerade er und andere führende Personen seiner Fraktion in den letzten Monaten den linken kritischen Kurs in der Nahost- bzw. Israelfrage zu moderieren, wenn nicht gar gänzlich zu entsorgen gesucht? Hat nicht gerade er die Einsicht bezeugt, daß man keinen Einzug in den gesamtdeutschen Konsens erhoffen darf, wenn man nicht die Hürde dezidierter Israel-Solidarität nimmt und letztere wortstark und gesinnungsgestählt proklamiert? Beim Antrag geht es zwar um die Antisemitismusbekämpfung in Deutschland, aber ausdrücklich wird in ihm zugleich – wie selbstverständlich – die Solidarität mit Israel als »unaufgebbarer Teil der deutschen Staatsräson« hervorgehoben. »Wer an Demonstrationen teilnimmt, bei denen Israel-Fahnen verbrannt und antisemitische Parolen gerufen werden, ist kein Partner im Kampf gegen den Antisemitismus. Die Solidarisierung mit terroristischen und antisemitischen Gruppen wie der Hamas und der Hisbollah sprengt den Rahmen zulässiger Kritik an der israelischen Politik.«

Verabschiedet werden sollte der Antrag bekanntlich vor dem 9. November, dem 70. Jahrestag der Pogromnacht, und so wird – deutschbefindlich wie eh und je – alles mit allem vermengt, ersetzt und ausgetauscht. Denn wenn der Antisemitismus so virulent ist, bedarf seine Konfrontation keines staatstragenden geschichtlichen Datums. Geht es aber um die Symbolhandlung geschichtlichen Gedenkens, dann hat die krämerische parteipolitische Rangelei zu verstummen. Aber es geht eben weder ums eine noch ums andere, weder um die Bekämpfung des Antisemitismus noch um die Erinnerung an mörderische Gewalt und historische Leiderfahrung – um alte Abrechnungen der Rechtskonservativen mit »den Linken« geht es auf der einen Seite, und um die Eroberung eines legitimen Platzes am nationalen Stammesfeuer Deutschlands auf der anderen. Und was eignete sich dafür besser, als »Antisemitismus« und »Israel«, unabhängig davon, was diese Begriffe mittlerweile bezeichnen und beinhalten, zum bestgeprüften Kriterium deutscher Staatsräson avancieren zu lassen. Es gab Zeiten, in denen es Altkommunisten noch zur Ehre gereicht hätte, von der raunenden CDU ausgegrenzt zu werden. Die Zeiten sind vorbei. Die CDU setzt sich selbst, indem sie die Linkspartei ausgrenzt, und die Linkspartei gibt sich offizieller Gekränktheit darüber hin, daß sie konsensuell ungeliebt bleibt – ein abgekartetes Spiel, bei dem die Rollenverteilung von vornherein festgelegt und bekannt ist.

Was aber hat die Pogromnacht von 1938 (in Israel ein eher unterbelichtet gebliebenes Geschichtsereignis) mit dem heutigen Antisemitismus zu tun? Will man allen Ernstes behaupten, es bestehe eine von der »Reichskristallnacht« über Auschwitz bis zum Antisemitismus heutiger Couleur führende lineare Verbindung? Will man wirklich suggerieren, die Verbrennung israelischer Fahnen durch Hamas- und Hisbollah-Anhänger ließe sich auch nur entfernt mit den Exzessen vom November 1938 vergleichen? Weiß man in Deutschland wirklich nicht, daß der Rassenantisemitismus der NS-Faschisten, der in Deutschland fortwesende Antisemitismus im Jahre 2008 und der (eventuell auch antisemitisch durchsetzte) Antizionismus der Hamas und der Hisbollah aus grundverschiedenen historischen Konstellationen und Kontexten erwachsen sind? Ist man mit der Banalisierung von Auschwitz (und selbst noch des organisierten Pogroms von 1938) inzwischen schon so weit, daß der aktionistische Politfurz einer Verbrennung der (israelischen) Nationalfahne zum Kriterium gedenkender Geschichtserinnerung, welches sogar in eine staatsoffizielle Resolution gegen den Antisemitismus Eingang finden soll, erhoben wird?

Wer noch immer nicht den Unterschied zwischen Judentum, Zionismus und Israel, mithin zwischen Antisemitismus, Antizionismus und Israel-Kritik begriffen hat, wird zwangsläufig miteinander vermengen, was auseinandergehalten gehört. Israel führt einen erbitterten Kampf gegen Hamas und Hisbollah; dieser hat seinen historischen Ursprung sowie seine aktuelle Begründung in der nahöstlichen Geopolitik und im israelisch-palästinensischen Konflikt, nicht im Antisemitismus als solchem, schon gar nicht in einem dem abendländischen vergleichbaren Antisemitismus. Traditionell war der Antisemitismus primär Erbteil rechter politischer und sozialer Gesinnung; es gab ihn zwar auch in der Linken, aber in keinem mit dem, was er im »Nationalsozialismus« an Verbrechen gezeitigt hat, annähernd vergleichbaren Ausmaß. Die CDU, unter deren Regime während der restaurativen Adenauer-Ära der 1950er Jahre beträchtliche Teile der wirtschaftlichen, politischen und akademischen Eliten des NS-Faschismus gleitend in die »Normalität« der alten BRD übergehen durften, ist die letzte Partei, die es sich leisten kann, linke Institutionen von der Unterzeichnung einer, wie immer gearteten, Resolution zur Bekämpfung des Antisemitismus auszugrenzen. Eine solche Resolution ist kein geeignetes Forum für das ideologische Nachspiel einer anachronistischen Spätaufarbeitung der Teilung Deutschlands. Vor allem aber sollten sich resolutionsfreudige Deutsche davor hüten, ihre befindlichkeitsgeschwängerte Auseinandersetzung mit dem Antisemitismus über ein fetischisiertes »Israel«-Bild und eine interessengeleitete Abstraktion von Juden und Zionismus zu betreiben. Allzu leicht könnten sie sich (wieder einmal) in jenem sich seit 60 Jahren reproduzierenden ideologischen Muster verfangen, welches weder zum Besten der Juden noch zu dem des realen existierenden Israel gereicht.
