So when I solicited for some Mondoo’s Mailbag inquiries a couple weeks ago, I never imagined that I’d actually get a response.  Well, that’s not true, I have a lot of family who read this and kinda thought that some of them would feel pittied into submitting something.  But never did I expect such a plethora of topics to discuss.  How exciting!   Let’s begin…

Our first mailbag question comes from Ganky and she writes:

“Why do we have to be so “politically correct” in all our lives???? Why can’t we laugh and make fun of the person falling down the steps, picking their butt,and those darn lycra pants that every obese woman insists on wearing to WalMart? Guess what–they’re clumsy/ rude/ and obese. Oh, I can list tons more but it wouldn’t be politically         correct!!!!!!!“

Thank you, Ganky, for making my first mailbag question so easy to answer… by answering it youself.  I agree.

Our next question comes from Kristina who is, no doubt, fabulous:

“Mondoo, You have a plenty of higher education knowledge and in an effort to help you exercise that knowledge (I wish I had a way to do that), I ask that you identify some problems you feel exist and explain how “Mondoo” could make it all run more smoothly!”

Excellent question, Kristina.  Honestly, in this day and age, the biggest problem that I feel exists in higher education is that no one is currently hiring… me.  I mean, it’s like you said, I have plenty of higher education knowledge, and not to mention that this blog has helped to sharpen my tongue, enhance my writing skills, and help me turn a critical eye to a number of pertinent world issues like vampires, festival foods, and creepy college mascots.  Any higher education institution would be lucky to have me.

And now a question from Mrs. Zack Morris:

Mondoo:  What kind of bear is best? What’s that? It’s a ridiculous question? Fine…then what is your favorite “The Office” prank and why?

My favorite prank from The Office is how they’ve managed to make that show mostly unfunny since Season 3.  Granted there are fantastic episodes here and there and funny little quips from time to time but nothing like the hilarity of my favorite season, Season 2.  Oh, is that not what you meant?  My bad.  Asking to list your favorite prank is like asking me to choose my favorite festival food, impossible so here’s a video that has a lot of my favorites, especially #2, it still makes me LOL.

I have a question for you, Mrs. Zach Morris.  How do you feel about Kelly being impregnated?  Do you fear that your husband may have been unfaithful?   I’m sorry if that is too painful to talk about.  Try not to go all Elin Nordegren Woods on him.

In other news, and maybe you could finagle another hate-filled (read: hilarious) post out of this. I saw this notepad at Pier 1 yesterday, and thought of you. I feel like driving with the windows up and fussing at other drivers is another appropriate outlet for being sort of hateful. What are your driving habits in that area, Mondoo? What is your favorite  thing to yell about/what action of other drivers pisses you off the most?

This is a tough question actually, Kerri, because my hate is unleashed frequently when driving, even more so than when I’m blogging, which is hard to believe, I know.  I alluded to this during my Mondoo’s Thanksgiving Tips post but the most annoying thing about other drivers is the fact that they drive slowly in the passing lane like it’s simply a second lane.  Well, guess what, it’s not; it’s a PASSING lane, meant for faster drivers who are PASSING you.  So, MOVE OVER!  You can tail people for miles and miles and they still don’t move over forcing you to pass them on the left, which is dangerous and aggravating.  The biggest offenders of this act:  people from Ohio and the handicapped.  I was just politically incorrect, happy Ganky?

Our final question today comes from Beefer, who sounds very handsome, like The Rock:

You say you hate a lot of things. But you also say that you love your husband. Is there  anything you hate about him?  Like how handsome he is?  Also, what happened toVitamin G? Is she dead? Should I send a sympathy card?

Beefer, let’s get one thing straight, I would never pair the word hate with the subject of husband.  He is fabulous… fabulously handsome.  However, there are a few things about him that annoy the bejeezus out of me.  Aside from making me talk to him in the car, he fake whistles in the morning.  He does this in our bathroom that adjoins our bedroom… while I’m still trying to sleep.  What do I mean by fake whistling?  Well, when he was little, he couldn’t whistle properly, just like he couldn’t ride a bike properly until his little sister showed him how.  So, he learned to fake whistle and still does it now by pushing air through his teeth and lips.  Annoying.  He also does another annoying thing with his mouth.  He thinks that he’s being polite by not releasing his burps and instead pushes the air through his teeth and lips “Shhhhh!”  Like someone is letting air out of a tire.  He’s a big guy and burps A LOT so instead of disgusting belches, I hear “SHHHH!” every three seconds.  I know that the alternative isn’t much better but still, annoying.  So you see, Beefer, even though I love my husband more than anything in the world, my hate knows no bounds.

As for Vitamin G, your guess is as good as mine.  Yes, please send me a sympathy card.  I love mail.

Es ist ja eigentlich nicht der Rede wert. Wenn inzwischen konservativ-subversive Aktionen bei “Politically Incorrect” (PI-News) beklatscht und reichlich kommentiert werden, dann wird dies schon seinen Grund haben. Ebenso wenn die guten, wahren und schönen Rechten in ihrem Tagebuch inzwischen doch regelmäßig in ihrer Presseschau auf “Politically Incorrect”-Artikel verweisen.  Bei ähnlichen Klientel ist dies nur recht und billig, zudem bedeutet ein Link zu einer Seite ja nicht, dass man den Inhalt dieser Seite insgesamt großartig findet. Da aber “Politically Incorrect” (Achtung, ab jetzt Ironie) für seine gute Quellenarbeit und seriöse und glaubwürdige Artikel bekannt ist, darf man es den wahren, guten und schönen Rechten wohl nicht übel nehmen, wenn sie die Kröte einfach so schlucken.

Um die Pointe mal vorweg zu nehmen: Diesen erschreckenden Bericht gibt es wohl in dieser Form überhaupt nicht. Es finden sich keine seriösen Quellen, keine entsprechenden Statistiken. Dafür kommt man aber über die von “Politically Incorrect” angegebene Quelle direkt zu der Seite “The European Union Times”. Die haben den Artikel bei der “British National Party” gefunden, diese hatten den Artikel wohl zuvor bereits 2004 in einer Kampagne verwendet.

Das Blog “Kruppzeuch” hat einen guten Artikel darüber veröffentlicht, allerdings in Bezug zu “Politically Incorrect”. Aber wenn sich nun die guten, wahren und schönen Rechten der Sezession ebenfalls einreihen, dann ist der aufschlussreiche Artikel eben doppelt wertvoll.

Hace algunas semanas tuve la oportunidad de conocer a uno de los hombres más ricos del mundo.  Peter Thiel tiene más de 1,300 millones de dólares y los consiguió trabajando duro en ideas exitosas.  Thiel es también autor de un libro titulado “The Diversity Myth” y lo recomiendo como una buena lectura sobre el mundo de la academia universitaria y el alcance de la corrupción a todos los niveles de la sociedad humana.  Les cuento sobre él porque unos días despues de conocerlo, platicaba con Adelaida sobre el valor decreciente que tiene c/millón de dólares para Thiel… platicábamos que seguramente “perder”, “regalar” o “dar” unos 2 ó 3 millones de dólares a uno de nosotros dos no afectaría en absolutamente nada la continuidad de su estilo de vida porque él nunca necesitaría esos millones, ¡ya tiene demasiados y muy poca vida para gastarlos todos!  Ambos nos reímos y brindamos con un “chin chin” de nuestras cervezas.

Redistribuyendo la riqueza:

El día de hoy leí la propuesta de la reforma fiscal que el gobierno socialdemócrata de Álvaro Colom promueve para continuar el proceso de redistribución, democratización y solidarización del pueblo de Guatemala con los más pobres; todo lo anterior, no malo por su naturaleza sino por los sacrificios implicitos en los medios a utilizarse para su consecución.

Así, LuisFi pide en su blog y en Facebook: no más corrupción y no más impuestos.  Y nos invita a utilizar el logo en nuestras cuentas en línea.  Pedro Trujillo escribe en el periódico que la redistribución de esta “reforma ? fiscal” no funcionará y es necesario detener y fiscalizar toda la actividad que actualmente realiza el gobierno pues muchos millones de quetzales han desaparecido en actos de impunidad y corrupción.  Trujillo también habla sobre la intención de quitar a los ricos dinero para beneficiar a los pobres y esto me hizo pensar.

Pero, ¿la riqueza de quién será redistribuida?

Yo no soy rico, soy un joven de 25 años que aprovechando que tenía el tiempo, una idea, el deseo emprendedor y las ansias de hacer más dinero se metió a un negocio.  No tengo carro propio y utilizo un carro de mi familia.  No tengo casa y debí regresar al hogar de mi madre por no tener suficiente dinero para pagarme un apartamento propio.

Yo no soy rico y tampoco soy pobre.  Yo soy un guatemalteco más que, si esta reforma fiscal llega a ser aprobada perderá mucho dinero.  Dinero que necesito para mantener mi estilo de vida, invertir en mi negocio y pagar cuentas en mis tarjetas de crédito.

De aprobarse la reforma fiscal, yo deberé pagar Q.75.00 quetzales más pues hablo aproximadamente 500 minutos mensuales en mi teléfono celular.  A esto, deberé sumarle un incremento del 1% al pago de ISR que hago mensualmente y, utilizando la cantidad promediada de mis últimos tres pagos de ISR, habré de pagar casi Q975.00 quetzales más en el próximo pago del impuesto sobre la renta.

Señores, soy un joven de clase media que será obligado a pagar más de Q1,000.00 mensuales para mantener los gastos de un gobierno socialdemócrata que ofrece pagar con mi dinero la educación, salud y servicios de otras personas.  Yo soy un guatemalteco más que será ahorcado en un afán por redistribuir mi poca riqueza para dar bienestar a otros que por muchas razones no han querido o no han podido crear la suya propia.

La moraleja:

Los más ricos nunca serán afectados por el pago de más impuestos.  Ellos siempre tendrán mucho dinero y los pobres serán pobres siempre.  Nosotros, los que deseamos ser ricos algún día seremos los afectados y al final, este país será cada vez más pobre. Y bueno, siempre han dicho que el negocio más rentable en este país es dedicarse al narcotráfico… quizás tienen razón porque ellos, al igual que los que laboran en el mercado informal, no pagan impuestos y tienen mansiones inmensas en las áreas más ricas de la ciudad mientras crean empresas que lavan impuestos.

Al leer la noticia no podía creer lo que miraba.  Lo único que pensé fue “descarados” y lo confirmo ahora que transcribí palabra por palabra el anuncio publicado por la Teletón.  Léanlo ustedes:

Al Excelentísimo Señor Presidente Constitucional de la República, Ingeniero Álvaro Colom, líder del Gobierno de la Solidaridad y al Honorable Pleno del Congreso de la República, especialmente a su presidente, Licenciado Roberto Alejos, por ser siempre respetuosos de éste sector de la sociedad tan marginado y olvidado.

Estos descarados de la Teletón le agradecen con una página completa a Álvaro Colom y a Roberto Alejos el haber entregado descaradamente 10 millones del dinero del pueblo de Guatemala para el beneficio de una organización: La Fundación Probienestar del Minusválido (FUNDABIEM) que en años anteriores demostró ser un nido de ladrones.
2. Estos descarados de la Teletón le agradecen al pueblo de Guatemala hasta el final de su artículo cuando, es gracias a nuestra ignorancia y altruismo, que han existido durante 25 años en este país.
3. Estos descarados se aseguraron Q10 millones más para desarrollar sus proyectos cuando ya recibieron un total de Q. 22,641,706.10 en su última recaudación y tienen invertidos muchísimos millones que les permitían seguir funcionando sin necesidad de recurrir a la beneficiencia (lean esta nota de Lucrecia Marroquín de Palomo que se encargó de destapar la verdad de los estados financieron de FUNDABIEM).

Yo apoyo e incentivo los actos privados de benevolencia y nunca me opondría a ellos.  También, creo y afirmo que las personas discapacitadas tienen los mismos derechos que el resto de guatemaltecos; ni más ni menos.  Pero no acepto por ninguna razón que se oblige a los guatemaltecos a utilizar de manera forzosa sus impuestos para la manutención de organismos como Fundabiem.  Fundabiem es una ONG sin fines de lucro, y por esto funciona con donativos.  Por definición, los donativos se entregan voluntariamente y no a través de la coacción.

Si a alguien debieron agradecer en ese anuncio fue a todos los guatemaltecos y no en especial estos dos rateros; porque al final es nuestro dinero y tenemos derecho a reclamarlo.

Non tutti sanno qual’è il reale significato dell’espressione “politically correct”

Il politically correct viene spesso accusato di essere una forma di conformismo linguistico, una sorta di pensiero unico che limita la libertà d’espressione oltreché una forma di ipocrisia istituzionale, che si limita a cambiare la “forma”, cioè le parole, senza intervenire sostanzialmente sul problema. Un modo per rimuovere le parole ma non (necessariamente) i problemi: chiamare afroamericani e diversamente abili gli ex negri e gli ex handicappatiinfatti è ben altra cosa dal rimuovere il razzismo e le barriere architettoniche. Viene inoltre molto criticato il bizantinismo di certe definizioni che sfumano negli anni: quelli un tempo chiamati brutalmente minorati sono divenuti prima invalidi, successivamente handicappati, poi portatori di handicap, quindi disabili ed infine diversamente abili. Classico è pure il ricorso alla definizione negativa: non vedenti per ciechi, non udentiper sordi, non deambulanti per para o tetraplegici, definizioni, oltre che inesistenti nel lessico medico, quasi sempre sdegnosamente rifiutate, come inutile ipocrisia in assenza di concreti vantaggi, dagli enti di tutela delle categorie interessate.

Weed, grass, pot…let ‘em smoke it. Gay, homosexual, partners…let ‘em put a ring on it. Inconvenient, unintended, accident…let ‘em kill it. Decent, moral, compassionate…let ’em all just forget it.

When I read an article by Jacob Weisberg in a recent issue of Newsweek, that is exactly the message I took away from it. Weisberg seems to think if enough people want to do something, every one else should just get out of the way and let them do it. My problem with this short-sightedness is that when anything goes, everything goes.

“Our forms of prohibition are more sins of omission than commission,” Weisberg writes in the article, titled, “Gay Marriage & Marijuana: You can’t stop either. Why that’s good.”* “Rather than trying to take away long-standing rights, they’re instances of conservative laws failing to keep pace with a liberalizing society.”

While I do think too many in the media would love it if Americans could just lounge around all day massaging their same-sex spouses, inhaling cannabis, eating Doritos and shooting babies with BB guns, I do think a majority of Americans still disagree. Certain elements of society — namely, the media — are “liberalizing,” but many Americans such as myself feel like a lot of this is being shoved down our throats. We are starting to choke.

Weisberg quotes the president, Barack Obama, saying, “‘I inhaled — that was the point.’”*  That is just one more reason I am glad I did not vote for the man. Seriously, even when he admits he consumed illegal drugs, Obama does it in a condescending way.

Pointing out that the bastion of conservative ideology, The New York Times, (can you hear my sarcasm?) has recognized gay unions on its wedding pages for the past seven years, Weisberg says this reflects “evolving social norms.”* I say this is just another example of a media outlet foisting its views on us.

Weisberg writes, “What’s advancing the decriminalization of marijuana is not just the demand for pot as medicine but the number of adults — more than 23 million in the past year…who use it and don’t believe they should face legal jeopardy.”*

Wow, I am amazed the “but Mom, everybody else is doing it” excuse can be used at any age now. Weisberg calls this the “evolving definition of the pursuit of happiness.”* I call this another example of our declining civilization.

Rome crumbled once the societal elites turned to hedonism. Is that the path we wish to travel? Should we let just anything go?

Discussing the relaxing of marijuana laws, Weisberg reports, “In L.A., you need only tell an on-site doctor at a walk-in pot emporium that you feel anxious to walk out with a legal bag of Captain Kush.”* Well, I have to stay up late to get this article done. How long before I can step into a walk-in methamphetamine boutique to pick up some Captain Keep-Me-Awake?

This is exactly my point. Where do we draw the line? When does it stop? Who is going to stand up and yell, “Enough!”? When are we going to realize what I said before — when anything goes, everything goes?

I do not think the problem is that society is becoming more liberal. I think the problem is that we are becoming weak and spineless.

We are too afraid of appearing judgmental. We are too afraid of being deemed politically incorrect. We are too afraid of causing offense.

I say the whole thing about not judging others is a load of crap. We judge others all the time. It is in our nature to do so. If I hurt your feelings and you think I am politically incorrect, go cry to your mama. If I offend, maybe you should be offended. Perhaps that is exactly what you need.

Major Nidal Malik Hasan’s military superiors repeatedly ignored or rebuffed his efforts to open criminal prosecutions of soldiers he claimed had confessed to “war crimes” during psychiatric counseling, according to investigative reports circulated among federal law enforcement officials…

Investigators believe Hasan’s frustration over the failure of the Army to pursue what he regarded as criminal acts by U.S. soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan may have helped to trigger the shootings.

“The Army may not want to admit it, and you may not hear much about it, but it was very big for him,” said one of the federal investigators on the task force collecting evidence of the crime.

His last effort to get the attention of military investigators came on Nov. 2, three days before his alleged shooting spree, according to the reports.

Colonel Anthony Febbo at Fort Hood reportedly told investigators he was twice contacted by Hasan, on Nov. 2 and a week earlier in October, about the question of whether he could legally provide information on “war crimes” he had learned in the course of psychiatric counseling he provided soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. Col. Febbo told ABC News he could not comment because of the on-going investigation.

His supervisor in the Department of Psychiatry, Captain Naomi Surman, told investigators that Hasan raised similar issues with her in conversations in October, according to documents reviewed by ABC News.

Captain Surman told investigators that Hasan had formally contacted military prosecutors to report patients he was evaluating, according to people briefed on the exchange. She said Hasan signed his e-mails with “Praise Be to Allah.” Legal analysts say psychiatrists are strictly bound by the rules of patient confidentiality except in cases where they might become aware of crimes about to be committed.

Three preachers sat discussing the best positions for prayer while a telephone repairman worked nearby.  

“Kneeling is definitely best,” claimed one.  

“No,” another contended.  “I get the best results standing with my hands outstretched to Heaven.”  

“You’re both wrong,” the third insisted. “The most effective prayer position is lying prostrate, face down on the floor.”  

The repairman could contain himself no longer.  “Fellas,” he interrupted, “the best prayin’ I ever did was hangin’ upside down from a telephone pole.”
