by Ken Blackwell @biggovernment.com

Pollsters like to say their surveys are like a snapshot, limited to the time and the picture frame in which they are taken. What we are seeing in polling on the takeover of health care by the federal government is a consistent opposition by the American people. No major poll shows the people supporting the House or Senate bill.

The poll most often cited by conservative talk show hosts is that of CNN/Opinion Research. This is the poll that shows the widest gap between those in favor and those opposed—25 points. Rasmussen reports a milder ratio of 16% between those opposed and those in favor. Gallup shows it a near-tossup: 46% in favor, 48% opposed.

What all these polls fail to show, however, is intensity. Intensity in politics is everything.

Those who know the most, who tell pollsters they are following the debate most closely—especially seniors—tend to be most opposed.

WASHINGTON (AFP) – US President Barack Obama, in remarks aired late Sunday, awarded himself a B plus for his first 11 months in office, stressing in an interview with talk show queen Oprah Winfrey that there was still much to be done.

“A good solid B plus,” Obama said during an hour-long, intimate soft-focus ABC network Christmas at the White House special, when Winfrey asked what grade he would give himself.

Explaining why he wouldn’t give himself top marks, the president said his administration had “inherited the biggest set of challenges of any president since Franklin Delano Roosevelt” which they were still working on.

Obama said that if he had a seasonal wish it was: “I want the American people to feel confident that our future is gonna be bright.

I have to question why he gives himself such high marks? His presidential approval rating is the lowest of any president in over 50 years; his approval rating index has dropped 49 points in less than a year. He has done more to further the government take over of virtually every industry in America. By his ‘dithering’ and lack of leadership he is responsible for the deaths of many U.S. service men and women in Afghanistan. Leaders of foreign countries have been insulted and snubbed. The article claims that he has improved international relations, when foreign leader view him as weak, inexperienced and naive.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows that 24% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty-two percent (42%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -18.

That’s a one point improvement from yesterday when Obama’s Approval Index rating fell to the lowest level yet recorded. Prior to the past three days, the Approval Index had never fallen below -15 during Obama’s time in office (see trends).

As the health care plan struggles in the Senate, public opposition remains stable. Fifty-six percent (56% ) oppose the plan working its way through Congress while just 40% favor it. In Nevada, the health care bill is causing problems for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s bid for re-election.

The Presidential Approval Index is calculated by subtracting the number who Strongly Disapprove from the number who Strongly Approve. It is updated daily at 9:30 a.m. Eastern (sign up for free daily e-mail update). Updates are also available on Twitter and Facebook.

Overall, 44% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the President’s performance. That’s the lowest level yet measured for this president. Previously, his overall approval rating had fallen to 45% twice, once in early September and once in late November.

Fifty-five percent (55%) now disapprove.

CNN is not reporting that President Obama’s poll numbers are dropping into negative territory, but Rasmussen is.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Saturday shows that 25% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty-one percent (41%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -16. That’s the lowest Approval Index rating yet recorded for this President. http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/obama_administration/daily_presidential_tracking_poll

The love affair with “That One,” seems to be ending. The vision of Hope and Change he campaigned on, did not allude to emptying the change out of every citizen’s pocketbook. President Obama’s negative numbers are like so many Americans personal finances- heading into negative territory and debt.

Rasmussen went on to say:

Most voters think health care reform is something the federal government should be addressing, but they don’t like the plan that’s working its way through Congress. In fact, only 41% support it now, marking the lowest extended period of support for the plan yet. But President Obama and the Democrats who control Congress are pushing ahead on the unpopular health care legislation anyway.

The price of freedom isn’t free. It is not an alienable right in America that a citizen gets necessities for free, and certainly not forever. America was not founded upon being a welfare state, but that is exactly what we are becoming. One thing you can’t call Obama, is a liar. In conversation with Joe The Plumber, he told us exactly what his intentions were- to share the wealth, take us down a path to socialism and into a new world order.

CNN and the networks remain faithful in the love affair with the President. He did just receive the Nobel Peace Prize, negotiate (without congressional authority I might add) a deal at the U.N. Climate Change meeting in Copenhagen, a speech on the economy pre-empting Charlie Brown, and reiterated our commitment to Afghanistan by offering another 30,000 U.S. troops.

With so much accomplished in one week, wouldn’t you think the trending numbers would be skyrocketing in his approval rating? What is bad for the President is apparently good for Fox News. Fox is seeing huge increase in ratings because many Americans do not like how, and where the President is leading the nation. Are so many Americans coming to think like Rush Limbaugh in that they want him to fail so he will not be re-elected? How will this bode for the Republicans and conservatives next year?

Lookup fellowship wrote:

Their is gross incompetence at the highest levels of government and our elected officials on both sides of the aisle aren’t doing the job we hired them to do. I also need to point out that I’m not promoting some type of carefree attitude either where you just throw your hands up in the sky and never get involved in politics. I’m simply suggesting that we need to take a step back and see government, politics, and the political debate for what it truly is an extension of the spiritual realm disguised as an entirely earthly body.http://www.lookupfellowship.com/2009/11/now-playing-order-out-of-chaos.html

Voters were misled that Obama, “That One,” was the One to lead us towards solving not only America but the world’s problem. He is no Messiah, and heaven forbid if the current health care reform bill passes. Likely, there are more words in it than in the Bible. The Bible being the best selling book on earth is also the one book that most people have never read and like the bill, most won’t read every word of it either.

Thinking about the Bible, it would appear God’s polling numbers are up. For most Americans, the December holiday season is the most wonderful time of the year. According to the latest Rasmussen Reports survey, 52% consider the holidays joyous, a five-point jump in joy since last year at this time.

The vast majority (86%) of Americans say they will be celebrating Christmas this year. Four percent (4%) will observe Hanukkah, three percent (3%) will celebrate Winter Solstice or Yule, and one percent (1%) will take part in some other religious observance.

In the meantime, The White House will be mailing Holiday Cards, rather than Christmas Cards.

Wonder if his media blitz Sunday with Oprah and 60 minutes will give him a lift? Lets hope we have had enough face time with our Marxist.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Sunday shows that 23% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty-two percent (42%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -19.

Today is the second straight day that Obama’s Approval Index rating has fallen to a new low. Prior to the past two days, the Approval Index had never fallen below -15 during Obama’s time in office (see trends).

The 23% who Strongly Approve matches the lowest level of enthusiasm yet recorded. Just 41% of Democrats Strongly Approve while 69% of Republicans Strongly Disapprove. Among voters not affiliated with either major party, 21% Strongly Approve and 49% Strongly Disapprove.

Ben Shapiro :

According to allies of President Obama, all opposition to Obama’s policies is driven by racism. “We think all of it is!” shouts Gwen Dawkins, a Democratic “activist” from Michigan. Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-Texas) explains that “As far as African-Americans are concerned, we think most of it is.” Rep. Mike Honda (D-Calif.) agrees, stating that “There’s a very angry, small group of folks that just didn’t like the fact that Barack Obama won the presidency. With some, I think it is [about race].” As Jimmy Carter famously stated, “I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, that he’s African-American.”

Apparently, racism must be spreading like wildfire. According to a Gallup poll released this week, only 47 percent of Americans now approve of President Obama’s job performance. Only 42 percent of independents approve. In the white community, according to a Nov. 24 Gallup poll, his approval rating has slipped from 61 percent in January to 39 percent. In the black community, his support has actually increased, from 90 percent to 91 percent.

The White House lashed out at the Gallup Poll on Tuesday after the survey’s daily tracking numbers showed President Obama’s approval rating dropping to a new low of 47 percent.

Asked for a response to Monday’s tracking poll, which placed Obama’s approval numbers among the lowest of any recent president in December of his first year in office, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs mocked the reliability of the widely respected polling firm.

“I tell you, if I was a heart patient and Gallup was my EKG, I’d visit my doctor,” Gibbs said. “If you look back, I think five days ago, there was an 11-point spread, now there’s a 1-point spread. I mean, I’m sure a 6-year-old with a crayon could do something not unlike that. I don’t put a lot of stake in, never have, in the EKG that is the daily Gallup trend.”

He added: “I don’t pay a lot of attention to the meaninglessness of it.”

Gallup’s tracking poll showed an uptick in Obama’s numbers last week following his speech outlining a new strategy for the war in Afghanistan. But in Monday’s polling release, Gallup’s Jeffrey M. Jones wrote: “Any slight bump in support Obama received coincident with his new Afghanistan policy proved to be very short-lived, as his approval rating returned to below the majority level by the weekend and slipped further to 47 percent in Dec. 4-6 polling.”

POLITICO 44: W.H. mocks Gallup.

Folks it’s easy to see who the ‘children’ are. Obama and his group of immature thugs and tax-cheats can’t even handle the decline in his approval ratings. Gallup has always, and still is higher on the numbers than most polling outfits.

The magic is fading. His poll numbers are down to only 35% in regards to his handling of the Afghanistan war. You can’t blame that on the right wing. The man lied his way into office, and his supporters are figuring out they’ve been had. Too bad. So sad to see wimpy white liberals looking…well…shell shocked.

Searching in Vain for the Obama Magic

By Gabor Steingart

President Barack Obama’s Tuesday speech left a bad taste in many mouths.

Never before has a speech by President Barack Obama felt as false as his Tuesday address announcing America’s new strategy for Afghanistan. It seemed like a campaign speech combined with Bush rhetoric — and left both dreamers and realists feeling distraught.

One can hardly blame the West Point leadership. The academy commanders did their best to ensure that Commander-in-Chief Barack Obama’s speech would be well-received.

Just minutes before the president took the stage inside Eisenhower Hall, the gathered cadets were asked to respond “enthusiastically” to the speech. But it didn’t help: The soldiers’ reception was cool.

One didn’t have to be a cadet on Tuesday to feel a bit of nausea upon hearing Obama’s speech. It was the least truthful address that he has ever held. He spoke of responsibility, but almost every sentence smelled of party tactics. He demanded sacrifice, but he was unable to say what it was for exactly.

An additional 30,000 US soldiers are to march into Afghanistan — and then they will march right back out again. America is going to war — and from there it will continue ahead to peace. It was the speech of a Nobel War Prize laureate.

Just in Time for the Campaign

For each troop movement, Obama had a number to match. US strength in Afghanistan will be tripled relative to the Bush years, a fact that is sure to impress hawks in America. But just 18 months later, just in time for Obama’s re-election campaign, the horror of war is to end and the draw down will begin. The doves of peace will be let free.

The speech continued in that vein. It was as though Obama had taken one of his old campaign speeches and merged it with a text from the library of ex-President George W. Bush. Extremists kill in the name of Islam, he said, before adding that it is one of the “world’s great religions.” He promised that responsibility for the country’s security would soon be transferred to the government of President Hamid Karzai — a government which he said was “corrupt.” The Taliban is dangerous and growing stronger. But “America will have to show our strength in the way that we end wars,” he added.

It was a dizzying combination of surge and withdrawal, of marching to and fro. The fast pace was reminiscent of plays about the French revolution: Troops enter from the right to loud cannon fire and then they exit to the left. And at the end, the dead are left on stage.

Obama’s Magic No Longer Works

But in this case, the public was more disturbed than entertained. Indeed, one could see the phenomenon in a number of places in recent weeks: Obama’s magic no longer works. The allure of his words has grown weaker.

It is not he himself who has changed, but rather the benchmark used to evaluate him. For a president, the unit of measurement is real life. A leader is seen by citizens through the prism of their lives — their job, their household budget, where they live and suffer. And, in the case of the war on terror, where they sometimes die.

Political dreams and yearnings for the future belong elsewhere. That was where the political charmer Obama was able to successfully capture the imaginations of millions of voters. It is a place where campaigners — particularly those with a talent for oration — are fond of taking refuge. It is also where Obama set up his campaign headquarters, in an enormous tent called “Hope.”

In his speech on America’s new Afghanistan strategy, Obama tried to speak to both places. It was two speeches in one. That is why it felt so false. Both dreamers and realists were left feeling distraught.

The American president doesn’t need any opponents at the moment. He’s already got himself.
