Comme vous avez pu le constater dans “Tu tires ou tu Scratches?” il y a “Scratch” mais qu’est ce que ça? Une marque de scotch? Des attaches pour les chaussures quand on sait pas faire ses lacets? Le bruit d’un accident d’avion?

Mais non, le scratch est un procédé consistant à faire tourner à la main un disque vinyle sous une tête de lecture de platine vinyle, alternativement en avant et en arrière, de façon à produire un effet spécial en modifiant brusquement et par à-coups la vitesse de lecture du vinyle ; quand on l’accélère le son devient plus aigu et quand on le ralentit le son devient plus grave. On associe cette rotation à une montée du volume. Il existe différents types de scratch, ceux-ci se différencient par la vitesse du disque, ainsi que par leur coupures grâce au crossfader.

Le nouvel album des Birdy Nam Nam est enfin arrivé ! Après un bon nombre de concerts un peu partout en France, la bande des 4 DJs sortent Manual for successful rioting.

Je n’avais rien lu à propos de cet album, si ce n’est l’annonce de sa sortie en Janvier. J’ai donc pu le découvrir sans préjugés particuliers. Et là grosse surprise, gros changement dans le son. Pour être honnête, à la première piste, je me suis presque demandé si c’était bien eux, si le groupe avait changé.
On ne retrouve plus scratch aussi marqués, le son est maintenant beaucoup plus produit et prend un tournure résolument électro, plus hip-hop.
Ca sonne très big beat et une influence Daft Punk ENORME vient à l’esprit (Trans Boulogn Express), mais pas seulement.

Je dirai que Manual for successful rioting est un grand mix de Daft Punk (il y a des samples de clavier trop typé : ), Justice, Chemical Brothers pour le côté big beat / electro rock (époque Block rock’in’ beat), Les rythmes digitales (à écouter de toute urgence si vous ne connaissez pas plus que le spot de la C4) et un soupsçon de Air (too much les vocoders de Homosexuality) .

On retrouve le résultats des pérégrinations live des Nam Nam avec les Bumcello sur Bonne Nouvelle où Atef & Ségal sont au rendez-vous, mais aussi avec The parachute Ending avec les Justice aux claviers (que je n’arrive vraiment pas à imaginer autrement qu’écrit par les Daft Punk !).

Au final, un peu déçu par le son parce qu’il fait preuve de moins d’originalité que sur leur premier disque. En revanche, on ne peut pas lutter, ça envoit du gros dans les enceintes. Au casque on bouge la tête comme un pigeon et on a envie de lever les bras en sautant en l’air façon dancefloor attitude.

Je retiens :
- War paint : gros son qui monte bien progressivement comme on le aime. Clairement là on sait qu’on est chez les Nam Nam. On sent qu’ils toujours ds le trip “groupe de 4 Djs”.
-  Love Your Enemy (Kill Your Friend) : idem, du Nam Nam
- Red dawn rising : Superbe intro à l’album qui me fait office de rampe de lancement dans mes activités

Big up pour les DJs, même si je ne kiff pas autant le son qu’avant, c’est encore un hold-up sonore.

Les quatre drôles d'oiseaux de Birdy Nam Nam seront à Lyon pour la seconde fois dans le cadre des Échos Sonores, cette fois-ci au Transbordeur.

  Dj Daruma et Dj Maar forment les controversés Dex Pistols, un mélange de technologies avancées de Tokyo et de street culture. L’un est aux platines, l’autre joue avec un sampler. Leur style réunit l’électro dance avec des sons hybrides comme le hip-hop, le rock et la new-wave. Ils jouent aux côtés de 2 many dj’s et sont potes avec Kitsuné, avec qui ils collaborent sur le projet Welcome qui a pour but de faire connaitre la scène électro japonaise. En décembre, les Dex Pistols sortent leur 3ème compilation Next Text : leurs approches originales leur valent un réel succès auprès du public. En février 2007, ils font une tournée à domicile Twist’n’shout dans 12 grandes villes. Un tutorial rápido y fácil para personalizar la página del perfíl en su Facebook, hace poco tiempo que me metí en esto del Facebook, esperando encontrar absolutamente nada, pero hallé bastantes cosas buenas..Y con esto de personalizar el FaceBook con imágenes cualquiera (Hasta Porno) ya dejó fuera de la contienda a su rival jurado Hi5..Lo siento jai fai, perdiste..Este es el resultado, es mi perfil de CaraLibro usando el personalizador ese..

Lo único malo que le veo a esto es la publicidad, que señalé en color rojo en la imágen, aunque es fácilmente obviada, yo no le paro bolas..Y aunque el nivel de personalización del Facebook se limita sólo a la imágen de fondo y algunas otras cositas, no tanto como diseñar un tapiz en hi5, aún así es mejor que nada..Aquí les explico como hacerlo..

Lo primero que deben saber es que no todo el mundo va a poder ver su perfil como lo tienen después de haberlo personalizado, para ello tienen que instalar ustedes un pequeño complemento llamado Yontoo Layers, para el navegador Firefox (Recomendado) o el Internet Explorer, los usuarios de Google Chrome, Opera, Safari o algún otro se jodieron, no hay complementos para esos todavía..No pesa nada, no se tarda nada instalando..

Sigan los 3 sencillos pasos que indican ahí, en el 2do, luego de instalarlo, pedirá que reinicie el explorador (En el caso de Firefox, con Internet Explorer quizá lo mismo), cierren y abran nuevamente el explorador si no lo hizo automáticamente, y sigan al paso 3..Luego que lo tengan instalado, pásenle ese link a sus amigos para que lo instalen y puedan ver su perfíl personalizado una vez que lo hayan hecho..

Pueden escojer algunos Layouts ya hechos, premades, igual que en Hi5, los consiguen en esta página que es en realidad una aplicación de Facebook llamada PageRage..:

Permitan el acceso de esa aplicación a su cuenta de Facebook, de ahí es donde partiremos a personalizar..Como ya dije, pueden elegir un layout ya hecho de las categorías en el panél izquierdo, o si quieren poner una imágen a su gusto le dan a este botón, ubíquenlo por ahí..(Si no quieres poner imágenes cualquiera, sino un layout de los que están en la página PageRage, puedes dejar de leer este tutorial aquí)

Eso los va a llevar a otra página..Está en inglés, razón por la que hago este tutorial, para evitar que le menten la madre al programador de la aplicación por no poner traducción a español..En fin, busquen el URL de la imágen que quieran poner de fondo, tiene que ser una imágen en formato jpeg, en Google imágenes se encuentran bastantes, o pueden subir una a PhotoBucket o algún otro sistema de almacenamiento y copiar el URL de ahí..En la siguiente imágen se explica cómo..

Copian el URL de la barra de direcciones, tiene que terminar en .jpg y ser una imágen..Lo pegan en el cuadro de diálogo, en la página de PageRage, al lado del botón de “Load”, y presionan el botón “Load”..La página va a actualizarse, y debería mostrar la imágen que escogieron como un thumbnail (ImágenPequeña) abajo..En este caso Pikachu..Si no aparece nada es porque el formato de la imágen no es válido, o copiaron mal el URL, asegurense que termine en .jpg y sea una imágen..

Ok, pasamos a el siguiente paso, “Step 3″, las preferencias, aquí escojemos cosas básicas como el color del texto y cosas avanzadas como la transparencia de las ventanas (Sólo funciona con Firefox)..Si hacen click en el cuadro de diálogo que tiene un numeral seguido por el número de la bestia x2 (#666666) les va a aparecer un cuadro de colores, para los que no se saben los colores por código hexadecimal, ahí escojen el color de las letras y el texto de su perfil, acorde a la imágen de fondo que hayan escogido, si es una imágen blanca no vayan a poner el texto blanco ¬¬..

La casilla que dice “Enable Scrolling” es la opción para que la imágen se repita, si es una imágen pequeña se va a repetir por toda la pantalla y mientras se deslicen por la página, si es una imágen grande recomiendo dejar esto sin seleccionar, dejando la imágen en un sólo lugar así muevan la página pa’rriba y pa’bajo..

Haciendo click en “Show Advance Settings” se muestra una opción adicional, que es la de la opacidad de las ventanas, esto nada mas funciona con el explorador Firefox, si lo ponen al 100% no va a tener efecto, al 50% los cuadros de FaceFuck van a ser medio transparentes, yo lo tengo en 70%, transparente pero legible..

Por último quedan 2 botones más por presionar, hacen click una vez en “Apply Background” para aplicar los cambios que hicieron, parecerá que nada está pasando pero la página quizá se actualice para guardar los cambios, luego hacen click botón de “Return To Profile” para regresar a su perfíl y ver los cambios..Puede que tengan que refrescar su explorador (Presionando F5) varias veces antes de ver el cambio, tengan paciencia la primera vez, depende de la velocidad de su conexión..

¡Y listo! ya tu FaceBook no es todo blanco y azul, jodiste a los estandares y te diferenciaste del resto..Aunque si sacaste la imágen de Google no se qué tan diferenciado estarás..Pero bueno, cuestión de experimentar con imágenes, colores de texto, transparencia y esas cosas, agréguen la aplicación PageRage como favorito a sus Bookmarks para que lo tengan a la mano cada vez que quieran cambiar la apariencia de su perfíl..

Les advierto que la personalización que hayan hecho sólo será visible en la página de su perfíl, osea, todo lo que sea accesible a través de la pestaña de “Perfíl” (LaQueEstáArribaAlLadoDeInicioYAmigos), no en las aplicaciones ni en la página principal de FaceBook, y para que tus amigos vean tu perfil de la misma manera que tú se tienen que instalar el complemento Yontoo Layers para el explorador que mencioné al principio del tutorial..El complemento Yontoo Layers también sirve nada más para ver los perfiles de otros que lo hayan personalizado, sin tener que modificar el tuyo..Si tu perfíl está modificado y el que lo visite no tiene este complemento simplemente lo verá como de costumbre, blanco y azul..Ya que Yontoo Layers lo que hace es crear una superficie virtual sobre la que aplica las modificaciones, en realidad no afecta tu Facebook para nada, así que nada de preocuparse por cambios irreversibles ..

Life can seem somewhat hectic at times. It seems that life can out run you, even when you think it’s all under control. I call that “Life Happening” not a new concept, I am sure most of you say that all the time “Life Happens”. It’s our way of saying that things come up, deal with it, move on and start another adventure.

Well life just happened again, I am off on a trip for two weeks for work, Koln Germany and Pone India. It should be an adventure, but truly the timing is bad. Seems to always work out that way, but as I say “Life Happens!”

It’s how we choose to deal with it all. Not only is the timing bad for this trip, the planning of it was a mess. I truly didn’t know when my flight was to leave until 11am New Years eve. Talk about waiting until the last minute! I had plans to make and people to inform and things to do. But “Life Happens” and I dealt with it the best I could.

“Life Happens” is a life lesson we keep learning over and over again. Once we think we have life where we want it, BAM “Life Happens” all over again. Now I could let this upset my life, I could turn it in to a major crisis, or I could just deal with it. I choose the latter of the two, I chose to just deal with it. I understand that really it’s no one’s fault that it took so long to get all the details worked out; I mean it was the Holiday season and all. People have time off, and things shut down. I understand the need for my company to look for the lowest fare possible, but man that can really make things difficult when dealing with another country. What they see as the lowest fair may not be what our travel agent sees. But such is life.

Today I leave for 2 weeks of “Life Happening”, in truth I am not sure what to expect when I arrive in Koln, I have a basic idea, but as always “Life Happens” and the best laid plans change. As for India, with all the news stories about violence, I am not too sure what to expect, but that’s life.  I will make the best of it all and do what I need to do to return home safe and sound. As long as “Life Don’t Happen” … But I know it will, it always does.

Well, we listened a lot to bird songs last year at PLoS ONE forums and journal clubs. After birds, mice arrived on the scene to sing and squeal, meaning that rodents could as well joyfully sing, and that their songs to prospective mates are as likely complex as those of birds. However, unlike birds, their vocalizations are discharged at ultrasonic frequencies, and that is why no one noticed them, nor was anyone motivated to celebrate them. But, as one of the many celebrated PLoS ONE stories (DOI: 10.1371/journal.pone.0001893) echoes in popular media and blogosphere, we may hope they will likely find a place in romantic poetry! The article was published by H. Wang and colleagues quite some time back (in April 2008), but was recently showcased in a recent news round-up by New Scientist of the top ten genetics stories of the year. Alison Motluk of New Scientist discussed this research and also provided recordings of the squeaks of male mice in a human audible format.

“Most musical, most melancholy bird,” said Samuel Taylor Coleridge of the nightingale ‘but whether birdsong can affect us in the same way as a beautiful sonata played by a human musician is another matter’ said Rebecca Walton in her blog post summating another celebrated article by Stefan Koelsch of the University of Sussex, wherein his team, investigated differential response to instrumental and computerised music. According to this research, volunteers who listened to recordings of professional pianists showed more emotional activity of the brain than did those who listened to recordings made by computer. This article was covered in different headlines by the Chronicle of Higher Education (Don’t Cry For Me, R2D2), The Telegraph (Sweaty music find could help develop new treatments), The Guardian (Music that brings a tear to the eye), Wired (Study: Computer Musicians Ain’t Got No Soul) and PsychCentral (Computer Music Not As Calming).

At the end of the year, one more article (“Practicing a musical instrument in childhood is associated with enhanced verbal ability and nonverbal reasoning” PLoS ONE, 2008) dominated the blogosphere, this time for another reason, to celebrate the second birthday of PLoS ONE! This was all about an excellent blog by SciCurious of the Neurotopia 2.0 (Einstein was smart, but Could He Play the Violin?) who won the PLoS ONE second birthday synchroblogging competition organized on December 20, 2008.

 All content published in PLoS ONE, from dinosaurs to elephants to chimps to birds to bats and about mice to butterflies and bees is freely available online. As a part of its thematic focus for the month of July, PLoS ONE announced a call for papers addressing gene expression studies. It appears that the gene expression community has already embraced PLoS ONE in a great style – here appears the authoritative and insightful review [by Charles Auffray] of one of the gene expression articles published by PLoS ONE: ‘High throughput gene expression measurement with real time PCR in a microfluidic dynamic array’. Interestingly, Auffray’s is the 100th evaluation of PLoSONE articles at the Faculty of 1000 Biology.

‘The novel microfluidic device described in this paper transforms real-time quantitative PCR into a much higher throughput technology for gene expression measurement. The authors have used a dynamic array of microfluidic channels, valves and nanoliter reaction chambers to perform simultaneously 2304 real-time qPCR assays, monitoring expression of 45 human genes in 18 tissues with very high sensitivity (down to <10 RNA molecules). The results presented compare very well with those obtained with conventional microliter RT-PCR, outperforming DNA microarrays. Miniaturization and parallelization result in faster delivery of results with much less reagents and handling. This technological advance should prove useful for validation of expression profile signatures obtained with microarrays, and their extensive use for diagnosis and prognosis. In order to compete directly with microarrays for transcriptome analysis, the number of genes that can be assayed in parallel would have to be increased by at least two orders of magnitude’.

Of its 2600 articles in PubMED, one hundred (4%) articles have been already evaluated and commented upon by F1000 Members. Eine türkische Hackergruppe hat Mitte Juni den Online-Auftritt des Europäischen Rates attackiert. Nach einem bislang unveröffentlichten Sicherheitsbericht der EU, der dem FOCUS vorliegt, nutzten die Angreifer einen Fehler im Code der Datenbanken der Rats-Website, um die Seiten vom Javier Solana zu verunstalten. Solana ist Generalsekretär des Europäischen Rates und Hoher Repräsentant für Außen- und Sicherheitspolitik der EU. Die Attacke dauerte mehrere Stunden.

Auch Angriffe auf Banken- und Firmenrechner sind geplant

Hinter der Hacker-Gruppe „Ayyildiz Team“ verbirgt sich nach den Ermittlungen der EU ein Netzwerk türkischer Nationalisten, die der EU den „Cyber-Krieg“ erklärt haben. Im März kaperte dieselbe Gruppe in Österreich Webseiten und drohte Milliardenschäden anzurichten. Im Monat zuvor fiel ihr der Auftritt des islamkritischen Online-Mediums EuropeNews zum Opfer. In Internet-Foren und Video-Clips werben die Hacker mit ihren Erfolgen und verbreiten anti-kurdische und anti-europäische Parolen. Nach Erkenntnissen der EU wollen die selbsternannten „Soldaten des Cyber World“ zukünftig auch europäische Banken-, Firmen- und Presse-Rechner angreifen.
