It was later in the evening, after Popstar’s siblings had already gone to bed. We were snuggling in the family room when Popstar turns to me and states

Wow, we were having such a nice night, then wham! “Why do say that?” I asked, already knowing the answer. She went on to question why I can’t just quit school, forget about getting a job, and stay at home with her.

Breaks my heart every time this comes up. How do you explain in seven year old language, why I need to work. I’ve told her how much I enjoy school and I want her to see how rewarding a fulfilling career can be. She doesn’t care. I remind her that our lifestyle, including all of her fun activities, is more enjoyable when both mommy and daddy work. She doesn’t care. I try to make time for some one-on-one time daily, but it’s never enough.

I don’t want to burden her with details that shouldn’t concern her, so how do I know how much information to share. She will ask things like, how much does our house cost? Or, how much did our truck cost? I don’t think she should be concerning herself with these things and sharing them with her friends, but at the same time, I want her to appreciate and respect these necessities. I guess her concept of money and appreciating it’s value isn’t real strong, yet.

Is seven the right age to start receiving an allowance? Maybe that would help Popstar start connecting value to purchases. My hesitation is that I do not want her to expect to be paid for contributing to the household. As a member of our family, she needs to want to share the responsibilities; not be bribed into it.

Ne avevamo già parlato, eccole qua di nuovo. Giovanissime (73 anni in quattro), sicuramente molto “cool”, magari non proprio dotatissime vocalmente, ma hanno tempo per lavorarci su. Sono le Queensberry, gruppo formato da Popstar, versione tedesca di Operazione Trionfo.

Eccovi “Hello (turn your radio on)”. nuovo singolo, il secondo dell’album “On my own”. Tutto molto ballabile. Somigliano un pò alle nostre Lollipop, ma con maggiore sfrontatezza (e del resto qualche anno un pò è passato). Una delle quattro è italiana: si chiama Antonella Trapani ed ha 17 anni.

Şu anda televizyonda Oray Eğin‘in yeni başladığı talk show programı var. Bilemiyorum kaçıncı program ama kendisi bu işte bir hayli başarısız.

Önceleri entel, bilgili, sosyetik, mantıklı imajı çizip, imajının tam tersi yönünde insanlara laf sokmaya çalışarak bir insandı kendisi. Popüler olma sebebi de tam olarak buydu aslında. Biz Türk milleti olarak çok seviyoruz sanki böyle bağıra çağıra konuşan insanları ki bir Armağan Çağlayan belası var bu medyada bir de Oray Eğin. Daha bu ikisine yetişebilmiş ve onlar kadar popüler olabilmiş kimse yok, o yüzden sürekli pohpohlanan insanlar bunlar. Biri popstar furyasında yarışmacı adayları iğneleyerek ön plana çıktı, diğeri ünlüler hakkında yorum yapıp, Amerika hayranlığını anlatarak. Armağan Çağlayan Star TV’de battı talk showuyla, aynı denizde Oray Eğin’in de boğulmasını bekliyorum. Mecazi değil aslında, bu iki isim üzerinden diğer anlamsız-gereksiz insanları da derinliklerde görsek ne güzel olur.

Oray Eğin’e çok değinmek istemiyorum aslında ama kendisi bu sezon içinde talk show yapmaya kalkıp batan tek insan olduğu için güncelliğinden yararlanmak zorundayım. Kendisi batıyor, çünkü Türkiye’de Amerikan formatının uyarlama halleriyle çıkan şovlardan birini, yani yıllardır David Letterman‘ın, Jay Leno‘nun, Conan O’Brien‘ın, Jimmy Fallon‘ın falan sunduğu türlü türlü programın dayandığı tek noktadan hareketle yapılan bir programı idare etmeye çalışıyor. Konsept yıllardır aynı, sadece şovmenin eklediği atraksiyonlarla kişiselleştiriliyor. Temel olarak 2 koltuk bir masa koyuyorsunuz, ünlü konukları çağırıyorsunuz, kıvrak zekanız sayesinde komik olup insanları eğlendiriyorsunuz olup bitiyor. Bu programlarda dekor önemli değil ki bir çoğunda bir şehrin gece, durağan görüntüsünün arka planda olması gayet güzel bir örnek. Sunucunun yakışıklı olmasına gerek yok, çünkü göründüğü gibi ne Jay Leno, ne Conan O’Brien falan yakışıklı adamlar. Yani diğer programların aksine görselliği bir kenara atıyoruz. Diğeri ünlü konukları çağırmak ve onlar hakkında ufak bir araştırma yapmak. Bu da Türkiye şartlarında Ekşi Sözlük’ü açıp 5-30 dakikalık bir okuma anlamına geliyor amatör bir şovmen için. Hadi Google, Ekşi Sözlük falan dedik bu aşamanın da kolayını bulduk, en temel ve tek bir noktaya geliyoruz: konseptin Türkiye’de çoğunlukla tutmamasının tek nedeni olan sunucu faktörü. Yine en güncelinden örnek vermek gerekirse, Oray Eğin’in espri anlayışının ne kadar kötü olduğunu içinde zeka kırıntısı bulundurmayan esprilerinden anlayabiliyoruz. Unutmadan bir de program orkestrası konusu var. Orkestra demek yanlış aslında, her ne kadar öyle deniliyor olsa da programda çalan müzik grupları. Kendileri tek bir komutla çalışıyor: “Kim ne derse desin, sözleri bitince abanın gitara!”. Zaten konuşma bazlı bir programda araya giren seslerden nefret ediyorken, kötü bir versiyonunu daha önce Kanaltürk’te yayınlanan Berrin’le Gecenin Rengi‘nde görmüştüm; izleyici olarak televizyon başında konuşmaları duymuyordum. Hepsi programda çıkan dandik grubun yüzündendi. Tabi bir de canlı yayın ses ekibinin katkıları var. Bu akşam bu durum bir adım daha ileri gitti. Oray Eğin’in programında, ki adına bakmış değilim, grubun aptal saptal çıkışları bırakın izleyiciye giden sesin sapıtmasını, stüdyoda kaosa neden oluyor. Aynı üçlü koltukta oturan üç konuk birbirlerinin konuşmalarını duyamayabiliyorlar. Gittikçe program kalitesi düşüyor.

Armağan Çağlayan diye başlayıp bahsetmeden olmaz tabi. Kendi internet sitesinde  ”2006 yılı yaz döneminde Star Tv ekranlarında başlayan programı “Son Ütücü” ile belki de kimsenin inanamayacağı kadar büyük bir başarıya imza attı ve adı kısa sürede en iyi talk-showcular ile birlikte anılmaya başlandı.” yazmakta. Biyografisinden alınmış bu cümle bile kendisinin ne kadar hayal dünyasında yaşadığına kanıt niteliği taşıyor. Bir süredir “İletişimde Yaratıcılık Dersi” veriyormuş. Hemen okulu ve fakülteyi de söyleyeyim hatta, İstanbul Kültür Üniversitesi Sanat ve Tasarım Fakültesi (tabi ki bir Bilkent, bir Hacettepe değil). Aslında bu kadar konuşmadan sonra sanırım kendisi hakkında görüşlerimi tek cümleyle özetleyebilirim. Kendini yaratıcı görüp, iletişimde yaratıcılık dersi veren bir insanın, yine yaratıcılık maddesi üzerinde durarak yaptığı programın üzerine dersler verdiği medyada tutmaması ne büyük bir ironidir ve Armağan Çağlayan bütün faktörleri bir araya getirip farkında olmadan bu ironinin mucidi olmuştur.

Diğer taraftan artık internet tv ya da Youtube’da channel sahibi olanların bile becerebildiği klasik talk show formatını Türkiye’de tek uygulayabilen ve yıllar sonra bile olsa hala seyredilen birisi var: Beyaz. Klasik konsept üzerinden masası, sandalyesiyle bile eskiye bağlı kalınmış stüdyosuyla ve konuklar üzerinden dönen geyiklerle yıllardır izleniyor Beyaz. Bundaki başarısının sırrı hem hedef kitlesinin belli olması, hem imajının yıllardır sağlam olması, hem de konuklarına yönelik araştırmasını yapıp, kıvrak zekasıyla nüktedan bir hava yakalayabilmesi. Yukarıda saydığım her maddeyi incelemeden, dediğim gibi olayın sadece sunucuda bittiğini düşünürsek, Beyaz’ın yıllardır süregelen imajından başlamamız gerekir. Masasından kalkıp kameraya yaklaştığında bile ceketinin düğmelerini ilikleyen, sürekli saygıda kusur etmeyen ve annesine verdiği değerle anılan bir adam Beyaz. Hani derler ya içimizden biri diye, büyüklerine karşı saygılı ama aklında ne tilkiler gezen insan modeli, medyada birini bu şekilde tanımlayacak olsam sanırım o adam Beyaz olurdu.

İşte bu noktada, Beyaz hakkında yazdıklarımı okudum acaba hata var mı diye. Okan Bayülgen gibi araya girmek istedim bir an. Ne gerek var da ben Beyaz’ı anlatıyorum ki size. Başarısı, karizması belli adam. Diğerleriyle karşılaştırmaya değmez bile.

Neyse talk showlar hakkında yazı yazayım derken, Beyaz’a güzelleme yapmış oldum azcık. Televizyonun çöplük hale gelmesinde etkileri olduğu için diğerlerine pek bir karşı olduğumdan bu durum normal.Bir de Okan Bayülgen ve Disko Kralı var ki, o ayrı bir yazının konusu (yanlış anlaşılmasın, Okan Bayülgen de kaliteli iş yapar manasında).

PS: Oray Eğin’in programının adı Ya Şimdi Ya Hiç‘miş. Mümkünse hiç olsun.

Os primeiros boatos sugeriam que a rainha do pop viria ao Brasil apoiar iniciativas sociais para ajudar as crianças pobres do País, assim como projetos que ajuda na África.

Le Plus Grand Quizz de France… C’est l’enfant de Popstar et Questions pour un Champion. Drôle de mélange non ? Eh bien pour moi, non ! Je pense qu’il fallait renouveler les jeux télévisés de questions-réponses. Mêler la télé-réalité à ce genre d’émission, c’est une assez bonne idée. Au moins, “tout le monde” peut participer. On donne sa chance à chacun de gagner 250 000 € grâce à sa culture dans tous les domaines, de Britney Spears à l’Histoire de France.

J’ai toujours aimé les jeux comme Qui veut gagner des millions ? (moi !!), Questions pour un Champion ou Le Grand Concours des Animateurs. Je rêverais d’arriver à la question à 1 millions d’euros chez Jean-Pierre Foucault, pas vous ? Et quand j’arrive à répondre à une question de Julien Lepers avant un candidat (et ils sont rapides croyez-moi), je suis extrêmement fier de moi. Quant à l’émission de Carole Rousseau, c’est plutôt la partie “répondre super vite à des questions moyennement difficiles” qui m’intéresse.

Et ça apporte quand même pas mal de culture. Ces émissions, ce sont des parties de Trivial Pursuit télévisées, et Mikaël Moreau aime le Trivial Pursuit. Pas vous ?

Réaction après visionnage : pour moi, ce programme ne fonctionne pas. C’est bien de donner la possibilité à tout un chacun de répondre à dix questions pour gagner 250 000 €, mais je n’ai pas vu beaucoup de questions. Entre les bêtisiers du jury et les meilleurs du pire des candidats, je me demande “où sont passées les questions ?” Vivement la finale (peut-être en direct, disait Alexia Laroche-Joubert chez Morandini hier soir) qui, peut-être, nous montrera l’étendue intellectuelle des candidats.

Ontem fui enviada ao Kinoplex a pedido do meu chefinho, André Forastieri, para assistir a pre-estreia de This is It. O documentário dirigido por Kenny Ortega foi criado a partir de mais de 100 horas de filmagens de bastidores dos últimos ensaios do rei do pop para a turnê homônima de 50 shows que seria apresentada em Londres, no final de julho.  Hoje o filme está disponível em mais de 200 salas pelo Brasil.

Ele pediu que eu buscasse algo diferente, que fugisse do óbvio, talvez uma correlação com algum outro filme. O resultado, que você pode ler aqui na íntegra, talvez não seja o exatamente o que foi pedido, mas é o efeito do meu mergulho nas canções e universo – transmitidos pelo longa – do popstar mais famoso do planeta.

Encaixando as sensações que tive ao fim da sessão, monto agora um quebra-cabeça pessoal em que misturo admiração, pena, surpresa, vontade.

Vontade de ter sido gente grande no tempo que ele veio ao Brasil para conseguir assistir de pertinho suas performances. Vontade de que o tempo de seu corpo maltratado e decadente tivesse dado mais tempo para ele mesmo e para nós. Vontade de uma despedida a altura de sua grandeza. Um espetáculo do menino-homem ainda em vida.

Anyway, next I come round the front to reveal myself and he’s shocked because I’m a girl and he thought we all fancied him and I say, ‘Sorry, not me- especially when you start speaking’, and then I pummel him in the chest and floor him with a Kung Fu move.

Finally, I stand over him with my stiletto pressing down on his black shirt and sing ‘Angels’ really softly so he looks quite peaceful as he passes away, even though the audience are on their feet cheering.

And that’s it, Father. I don’t feel good about myself.

Yesterday was the very emotional funeral of gay Boyzone member Stephen Gately in Dublin. Many celebrities came to pay their respect or left messages of condolences. This was a truly loved individual. His former band member, with Ronan Keating, carried his coffin and held a vigil the night before. Last week a bitch from the Daily Mail used the rumors surrounding his death to slam the gay lifestyle, something that had ultimately nothing to do with his death. And even if it had been drugs, how many straight pop stars haven’t died of excess?? The thing that must be excruciatingly hard for his husband though, is knowing he had sex with another man while Gately died.

Yesterday was a march and rally in support of gay bashing victim Jack Price. Around 300 people came to Queens to show their support and protest against gay bashing. Surprisingly enough there were also some counter-protesters screaming for the release of the gay basher( unbelievable). Among the group of thugs was also the Leviticus tattoo guy I reported about earlier. According to locals this is the same group that caused the neighborhood to go downhill in the last few years. 

Some people in the gay community should be a little less quick with calling straight allies homophobic and screaming for their apology. This weekend “Girls Gone Wild” founder Joe Francis called a doorman a fag after being denied at a club. Of course this is stupid and juvenile but this is the same man who walked in the National Equality March last week so clearly no homophobe. And from Britain comes an even better example of ridiculousness. Gay icon Dannii Minogue and sister of THE gay icon Kylie told a singer who himself admitted he was bi-sexual that he could have left the lyrics to “And I’m telling you” to that of someone singing to a man. Why in the hell is that bad?? Apparently many people think she should not have brought up his sexuality but to say she is homophobic is just stupid.

Jimmy did an acoustic performance of his song, “Turn It Up” for Popstar! readers. =) Are you a fan?

During a 2-day Disney Channel Junket at the California parks, I had the pleasure of capturing the adventures of Shia, Hilary & Kyla for Popstar! Magazine. At the time, Shia was starring in Even Stevens, Hilary was starring in Lizzie Maguire, and Kyla was starring in The Proud Family.

so the new cheryl cole video “fight for this love” is online now and while, rather annoyingly, i cannot embed it, you can click here to watch it. when i first watched it i was going to give it a B+ but i’ve since decided to give the video the nearly unattainable grade (i’m a tough critic) of A-. AMAZE!

as you can already see from the images it above, the video is fantastic. that whole red striped hood and glasses thing is probably my favourite moment style-wise in the video, although it does bear a striking resemblance to kylie in her “in my arms” video. actually she looks exactly like fellow girl aloud, nadine coyle, in a few shots too (see below). that latter is undeniably more intriguing than the former but i’m not docking her any marks as both looks are fabulous, stolen or not.

to be honest, when i first saw the video i wasn’t sure it really fit the song. but then i felt a nagging desire to watch it again. and there you have it; that indescribable it-factor that makes an A music video. you want to watch it over and over again because it somehow improves the song itself. i’m going to try and break down said it factor into point form so that we may possibly understand it for future generations of pop starlets to copy endlessly.

1. lots of outfit changes. seriously, cheryl’s in and out of clothes in the video like a stripper. i think i counted 7 different ensembles, not all of them fabulous.

2. wear something noteworthy, even if it’s not that fashionable. those leopard print pants: hideous, but you know what, i’m totally talking about them either way. WIN. i’m also not that keen on the whole military get-up: good idea, so-so execution.

3. dancers. ALWAYS IMPORTANT! actually, my favourite bit in the whole video comes at 3:06. best dance move ever. it’s like cheryl is the lead hen and they’re all her chicken bitches!

4. cgi, really great graphics. this video has amazing graphics. like they threw some money around on this clip. it probably had the budget of the first 15 girls aloud videos combined. it makes very little sense (amazing) but really blends in fantastically.

so for the above 4 reasons – dancers, a plethora of fabulous (or at least intriguing) fashions, cgi – the video “fight for this love” is a huge success. but all this got me thinking about cheryl cole – the popstar. i would expect this song and the subsequent album to be a significant success for mrs. cole and i think that if she continues to play her cards right she has a long and exciting future in the world of pop music.

specifically, something about cheryl and this video is making draw comparisons to madonna. it used to drive me crazy a few years ago when everyone was comparing britney to madonna as even then it was painfully obvious that britney was as thick as two planks whereas madonna is extremely intelligent and a master at manipulating situations to her advantage. i get this same sense from cheryl cole. she has navigated her career with great aplomb over the last few years becoming unarguably the breakout personality of girls aloud, thanks in part to the support of simon cowell via her appearance as an x factor judge. i think cheryl cole might just have the unstoppable will to demolish everything and everyone in her path to superstardom, much like a young italian american girl with daddy issues did all those fateful years ago.

only time will tell…
