Det är inte alltför långt kvar till varken julafton eller till bilentusiastens LA Car Show. Båda äger rum i December och erbjuder trevliga överraskningar och glada miner. Å LA Car Shows vägnar kommer bland annat Porsche presentera sitt senaste barn; Porsche Boxster Spyder. Det kanske inte låter så märkvärdigt men det finns en och annan intressant detalj att poängtera. Den främsta skillnaden från den vanliga Boxster S är att Spydern har en lägre vindruta som gör att bilen får en slimmare look när suffletten är uppfälld. Vidare har Spydern två pucklar, eller utbuktningar om man så vill, som gör att Spyderns silhuette för tankarna till Carrera GT.

Under huven sitter en 3.4 liters direktinsprutad V6 som producerar 320 hk, dvs 10 fler än hos Boxster S. Porsche har även tuffat till fjädringen och i samma veva sänkt bilen med drygt 2.5 cm. Vi kan även påpeka att detta blir den lättaste Porschen på marknaden med en vikt på 1 275 kg. 0-100 km/h tar 4.6 sekunder och topphastigheten, med taket nedfällt, är 166 mph, drygt 265 km/h. Det är tänkt att Spydern kommer börja saluföras under februari nästa år och med ett utgångspris på 61 200 USD.

A report indicates that Porsche is planning several new models within the next 4 years.

These apparently include a new generation of Cayenne, a baby Cayenne (This will be to the Cayenne as the Audi Q5 is to the Audi Q7), a V6 Panamera, with a diesel version in certain markets and a hybrid Panamera, which will be coupled to either a V6 or V8.

Also, a new generation of 911 is due by 2012. It is expected to be significantly different from current one, though the engine will still remain in the wrong place back.

A successor to the 928 is also planned (In coupe and convertible form), as well as a supercar based on the RS Spyder racing car, and if their last supercar is anything to go by (Carrera GT), it should be brilliant.

Besides the disgusting fantastic hybrid Panamera they’re developing, there’s also an electric sportscar on it’s way. Lastly, the Boxster Spyder I posted earlier will be released, as I mentioned, in February 2010. Looks like the brand is going to have the biggest line up in a while soon.

So then, as our new member Alex explained, we have moved to a new host, WordPress. There are one or two disadvantages, but the advantages make up for it. If it weren’t for WordPress, I’d still be over at our old host Blogetery scratching my head over how to add Alex as an author to the blog. I spent hours looking for it, it might not even exist for all I know. Thankfully, it’s very simple at WordPress. The systems are very similar, after all, Blogetery is based around WordPress, so the move was very quick and most of the content was preserved. Only the image in the sidebar changed. Also, I lost one of the comments, but otherwise, everything’s here.

Now for some car news. Porsche has announced the Boxster Spyder. It’s a modified, lightweight version of the Porsche Boxster.

Porsche has managed to lose about 80kg over the original Boxster with this. It also has 10hp more than the Boxster S, bringing the power up to 320hp. With the PDK dual clutch flappy-paddle gearbox, it’ll get from 0-60mph (About 100kph) in 4.6 seconds. It’ll go on sale during February of next year with a base price of around $61,200.

The roof is more of a wind deflector than a roof, this car is mainly designed for that sunny Sunday morning when you want to go out and have some fun. Despite being a bit of a Porsche hater, I think I might like it. The altered design looks good to me, and I like the idea of a fun, lightweight convertible.

My only concern is, why have they called it a Spyder? I understand it’s supposed to be a tribute to the old Porsche Spyders, but the Boxster was already a convertible, so the naming ends up sounding a bit stupid.

Oder kurz IAA. Nach dem Motto “erleben, was bewegt” habe ich mich am ersten Publikumstag in die Höhle des Löwen gewagt. Es war mein erster Besuch bei der 63. Automobilmesse, und gegen 12 dachte ich noch, Mensch, hättest du dir aber voller vorgestellt. Keine halbe Stunde später konnte man in einigen Bereichen kaum noch einen Fuß vor den anderen setzen, aber war ja zu erwarten.

Es war interessant zu sehen, wie unterschiedlich die Aussteller mit der aktuellen Krise umgehen. Während die einen gleich ganze Hallen anmieteten,  sparten andere an allen Ecken – sei es an der Standgröße oder den Werbegeschenken. Einige blieben gleich ganz fern (z.B. Nissan). Insgesamt verzeichnete die Messe einen Rückgang von  knapp 30% bei den Ausstellern im Gegensatz zur letzten.
Hier die wichtigsten Eindrücke im Überblick:

Schönster Halle Messestand: Sowohl Mercedes als auch BMW hatten das Motto: Nicht kleckern, sondern klotzen. Riesige Hallen, Sound und Licht vom Feinsten. Powered by Emotion war das Stichwort. Bei BMW fuhren sogar auf eigens gebauten Straßen um den eigentlichen Messestand die neuesten Modelle.

Größte Enttäuschung: Ford – außer kostenlosem Saft und Torwandschießen hat mich hier nichts umgehauen. Nur aktuelle Modelle, keine Studien, keine Neuvorstellungen.

Größter Protz: Neben einem vollverchromten R8 müsste ich eigentlich den Edeltuner Mansory nennen. Er präsentierte ein Konglomerat aus eh schon unbezahlbaren Autos, Kohlefaser und einem großen Schuss Arroganz. (Siehe Galerie: Cayenne und Bugatti) Jedoch ist mir bei Brabus eine G-Klasse ins Auge gefallen, die mich fast vom Planeten gebeamt hat. Es handelt sich um den Mercedes G V12 S mit 6,3 biturbo Rocket Motor (700 PS, 1.320 Nm), der den  Kasten mit der Aerodynamik einer Schrankwand auf 240 km/h (abgeriegelt) katapultiert. Der Preis von knapp 542.000 € dürfte dann auch dem Letzten Tränen in die Augen treiben.

Schönstes Auto: Es waren viele außergewöhnlich schöne Wagen ausgestellt. Jedoch muss ich, nicht ganz voreingenommen, diesen Titel an den deutschen Traditionshersteller Wiesmann vergeben. Kaum ein anderer schafft es, so schöne, fließende Linien zu einem Meisterwerk zusammenzuzimmern. Der Wiesmann GT MF5 ist einfach ein Traum auf 4 Rädern!

Größte Überraschung: Ich habe mich sehr über ein ausgestelltes Walz Bike gefreut, dass man nicht alle Tage sieht. Was mich aber am meisten überrascht hat, war Melkus. Die Ossi-Schmiede war bei mir schon fast in Vergessenheit geraten, umso erstaunter war ich, dass sie mit dem RS 2000 gleich eine Neuvorstellung am Start hatten. Da hat es auch nicht gestört, dass der Wagen ziemlich dem verwandten Lotus Elise ähnelte.

Meister Andrang: Ganz klar – Lamborghini. Es wurden zwar nur 3, 4 Modelle vorgestellt, darunter der neue Eventón, aber die Besuchermassen davor ließen jedem unter Klaustrophobie Leidenden  den Schweiß auf die Stirn steigen.

Fazit: Wirklich innovative Erneuerungen hat man vergebens gesucht. Es waren einige nette Ansätze dabei, aber das Rad wurde nicht neu erfunden. Es zeigte sich, dass es wohl noch eine Weile dauern wird, bis eine wirkliche Alternative zu Benzin und Co. marktreif wird.

Welten prallten aufeinander und die Hallenaufteilung war teilweise schon recht amüsant. So werden Sprit sparende Fahrzeuge und alternative Antriebe vorgestellt, und nebenan protzt Geiger mit Musclecars, die gut und gerne mal im Stand 30 Liter schlucken. Verschiedene Hersteller ließen sich mal wieder von der Konkurrenz inspirieren. Dies bin ich sonst größtenteils nur von den Japanern gewöhnt, doch z.B. auch der vorgestellte Peugeot 308 RC Z war eher ein Mischung aus TT und Boxster. (Das nur als Paradebeispiel) Es gab Miniaturmodelle, die selbst den Smart haben aussehen lassen wie eine Großraum-Limousine. Im Kontrast dazu gab es aber auch Autos, deren Heckpartie so breit war, dass selbst Jennifer Lopez neidisch geworden wäre.

Alle Eindrücke hier wiederzugeben, würde aber den Rahmen sprengen. Wenn man sich für Autos interessiert, lohnt sich ein Besuch allemal. Wer aber auf die große Erleuchtung hofft, was uns die Zukunft bringt, der sollte den Tag lieber anders nutzen.

Top up, or top down, Audi TTS Roadster is a cozy and comfortable place to be. I was rather impressed with how spacious and coupe-like the Roadster’s cabin feels with the top up, save the obvious added wind noise and complete lack of rear seating and storage. The TTS’ interior would be the first thing that impresses you, and the noise it makes when you fire up the turbocharged 2.0l engine will be the second. Audi has modified the overall exhaust, fitting a quad-pipe arrangement at the rear, and the sound is really intoxicating.

There’s a low, menacing grumble present at all times. There was a brief lack of power at initial throttle tip-in, but once revs reach the 2200 sweet spot, the Audi’s turbocharger kicks in with a faint whine and the speedometer needle starts to climb faster than expected. It’s not the kind of acceleration that knocks you back in your seat, but it really makes the standard TT’s 3.2l V6 seem obsolete. What’s more, there was a complaint about the 6-cylinder TT feeling a bit nose-heavy. Audi’s stunning 2.0l engine seems to be a perfect fit within the TT and TTS, allowing for better weight distribution and a much more enthusiastic power delivery.

No matter what the weather, the TTS handles like a dream. Quattro all wheel drive means that you can hug corners relatively quickly, though I wish that the steering feel was a bit more engaging. Audi seems to target the Porsche Boxster with this car, bit the Porsche’s mid-engine layout and better steering feel will allow for a more rewarding driving experience overall. Still, the TTS can definitely hold its own when the roads start to get twisty, and the Audi’s turbo-four setup provides slightly more punch than the Boxster’s normally aspirated flat-six. Pricing for the TTS Roadster starts at $47,500 – just over $2000 more than a base 3.2l TT Roadster.

The extra cost will net you a more aggressive powertrain, a meaner exterior appearance (complete with LED running lamps), better suspension geometry, and an exhaust note that will make you smile every time you hit the throttle. Three cheers for four-season-friendly sports cars, especially those which like to take their top off.

Today is the Classic Car show being put on by the Okatie Rotary at Tradition Hilton Head in conjunction with Traditions Parade of Homes and the Junior Golf Academy Tournament.  Several of the members of our local Coastal Empire Region of the PCA came out to support the Rotary.  Our dealership put cars on display at the Parade of Homes including the HDTV Green Home and at the Club house for the Junior Tournament.  A beautiful day and a beautiful location.

Nu under LA Auto Show gick Porsche ut och presenterade deras nya förbättrade Cayman och Boxster. Enligt vår mening har de lyckats bra med uppdateringen, mycket nöje!

Smaken kunnen verschillen, maar de nieuwe generatie van de Boxster is een visueel genoegen en misschien wel de mooiste tot nu toe.
