Σίγουρα είναι μεγάλος ο αριθμός των χρηστών που χωρίς να έχουν ιδιαίτερες τεχνικές γνώσεις μπορούν να κάνουν port-forward στο ADSL router τους. Τι συμβαίνει όμως για όλους τους υπόλοιπους που απλά θέλουν να παίξουν ένα παιχνίδι ή να τρέξουν μία εφαρμογή που απαιτεί να ανοιχτεί μία port στο router και δεν έχουν ιδέα από routers και networking;

Simple Port Forwarding. Είναι μία εφαρμογή μόνο για Windows που αναλαμβάνει δίνοντας απλά τη μάρκα, το μοντέλο και το user/pass του router να ανοίγει όποια port του δηλώσουμε.

Hey all,

Quite a few times my friends have asked me about how to forward some ports on their routers, and quite a few times its tricky as every router has its own different ways.

I used to use http://www.portforward.com/ as this site contains step by step walkthroughs on how to forward ports on almost all router versions and types out there. However, this does get very confusing at times.

Now I know that people have many different intentions by forwarding ports e.g. torrenting, P2P or perhaps gaming… any way I’ll show you this new tool that will save you A LOT of hassle.

Its called ‘Simple Port Forwarding’. Very straightforward name for a very straightforward process (thanks to this app).

To use it is very simple and easy to do yourself and that’s why I’m only going to post the DL link. Don’t worry 100% clean and pretty much risk free!

Simple Port Forwarding (Original Download Source) — 4.27 mb

I’ve been spending the past few days trying to configure port forwarding for my Torrent downloads and finally i managed to get the port forwarding up and running. Actually i don’t know why it didn’t work the first time i tried it, but anyway, here’s a simple guide on how to setup port forwarding.

The very first thing that you should do is to configure your PC to have static IP. Here’s a link (Setting up Static IP)on how to setup static IP for different OSes. This is a very good website for port forwarding info and you should bookmark it.

Once you’re done setting up the static IP, then proceed to setup virtual servers at your router. Just try to browse the menu inside the router and i’m pretty sure you’ll find an option to setup virtual server. Insert your static IP address that you just setup and then ensure that you choose it’s for both UDP+TCP. Then for the port range, try to put the range from 6881-6889 or alternatively, you can try numbers above 25000 as well.

After that, go to your BitTorrent download client and under the Options menu, usually you can find a section for you to enter the ‘Listen Port’. This is where you put in the port numbers based on what you have setup in your router earlier. Eg. if your port range in your router is 6881-6889, then you can choose 6882 or any numbers within that range as your listen port.

You should be able to use the listen port after that and hopefully your torrent downloads are gonna be faster.

Remember, if you have any issues, feel free to visit Portforward.com as you can find all the resource and guides on how to setup port forwarding there. Happy Port Forwarding!

UPnP. You probably heard about it or seen it lurking in your router settings, or while you fiddle ar

UPnP. You probably heard about it or seen it lurking in your router settings, or while you fiddle around Windows‘ built-in firewall. So what the hell is it?

I myself didn’t bother to look up on it as it didn’t sound appealing to me compared to lamb curry. Not until I read about Port Map. Port Map is basically a Mac app that allows easy port forwarding WITHOUT accessing your router. Now now before you stop reading on thinking this is some shitty Mac praising post, don’t regret if I tell you how this will actually let you play C&C3 online without opening 80% of all available ports from 1 to 65535.

So I was thinking, What the f**k? How is it possible to port forward without actually setting it up in the router? Wouldn’t it be a (local) security issue? After a little googling, turns out that UPnP has been around long before I even graduated from high school.

UPnP is basically a technology that allows devices (such as your computer) to tell the router it needs to allow connection thru a certain port number so that it can communicate properly with the other internet client. Some of the most popular software I could think of that could utilize UPnP is Skype and uTorrent. For the past few years, I have been wondering why in the f**k uTorrent has an option to RANDOMIZE your port number each time it starts? Wouldn’t that mean you have to port forward all over again? Now I know. It’s UPnP that’s allows such voodoo to exist.

So how can you get this voodoo to work? First of all, you need to access your router (just this once to set it up). Every router setup differs so you may have to read your manual to find out how to enable UPnP. Some routers that are too old might not even have UPnP. Also, I notice that some Belkin routers do not have UPnP as well.

For the purpose of introducing UPnP, I’ll use screenshots from popular BitTorrent programs for example.

Notice there are options to allow these programs to utilise UPnP. And that’s it, enjoy UPnP.

Few things to note: If you have multiple routers on the same internet connection, make sure the ‘parent router’ forwards ALL ports to the next router. UPnP doesn’t communicate router to router unfortunately (at least this is the case for home routers, correct me if I’m wrong).

Also, I have the feeling that enabling UPnP might cause potential security dangers especially to Windows machines. Make sure you have anti-virus/spyware installed before you utilize UPnP.

Hope you enjoy this tech tip, because I have. For the first time since C&C3 launch I could finally play it online, just to get owned by someone who claims to be a noob.

By default, all BitTorrent client uses port 6881-6999. Since BitTorrent accounts for a lot of the to

By default, all BitTorrent client uses port 6881-6999. Since BitTorrent accounts for a lot of the total internet traffic, your Internet Service Provider like to limit the connection offered on these ports. Since most BitTorrent client allow you to change the ports to another range, just choose anything you like.

Typically, I would choose a number between 1024-65536. For example, 5555-5559 or 8880-8889. Never choose a wide range like 5555-7777. This may result in slowing down your connection, rather than optimizing it.

2 things to take note if you are behind a router:

1) Ensure that you have the ports forwarded in your router.

This can be done from your router web interface. Enter any name for the Application field (this is for your reference); enter your port range (for example 5555-5559); set to both TCP and UDP for under the Protocol; forward to the IP address you want to port forward to. Do remember to check the “Enable”, else it will not port forward!

2) Uncheck “Randomise port each time uTorrent starts”.

Leaving this option checked will use a different port every time you launch the BitTorrent client, resulting in improper BitTorrent port forwarding through your router.

For example: You port-forward port 5555-5559, and left the randomise option checked. Each time you start the BitTorrent client, it chooses a number from 1024-65536. You may define it through the configuration menu shown above, but if you exit the client and re-launch it, the port will change.
