Everything in the multimedia industry is switching to high definition (HD). There’s HD radio, HD television, and Blu-Ray DVD’s. This new high-definition media requires technology that can deliver this information quickly. The most popular cable used to deliver HD information is the HDMI cable. It sets itself apart from the component cables, because it consists of one cable that delivers both visual and audio information. An HDMI cable is capable of delivering 5 GB of digital media; however they are rarely used at capacity. Because HDMI does not use all of its bandwidth, as more media progresses its technology you will not have to worry about updating your equipment. – Xbox 360 HDMI Cable
HDMI Switch Port
HDMI Switch Port

Ba Ria Vung Tau deep water portIf the transportation system and services in the port of Ba Ria – Vun

Ba Ria Vung Tau deep water portIf the transportation system and services in the port of Ba Ria – Vung Tau is still late to the rate of development of ports here, such advantages of the deep-water remains potential .

Currently the province of Ba Ria – Vung Tau has 14 ports are exploited, including 12 specialized ports and 2 general ports .

Compared with other localities in the country, Ba Ria – Vung Tau province is always the way in construction and development system port.

Within 10 years, since the government approved master plan to develop the seaport system of Vietnam and the seaport system divided Vietnam into eight groups, including the seaport system of Ba Ria – Vung vessels in group 5, test the development of seaports here shady move to phase unknown.

Currently more 37 port projects with total registered capital of over 87 thousand billion continue to be deployed in Ba Ria – Vung Tau. A signal is kha optimistic view is, to this moment, 37 projects were metabolized to a number of the registered capital which is estimated to about 8536 billion, reaching the value 9.8%.

Department of Transportation – Transportation Ba Ria – Vung Tau said, in addition to 14 projects have started construction, the current remaining 23 projects are in the finishing phase of investment procedures.

Expected step in 2010, but this project will start work in bulk. So, if “pure wish for successfully”, 2020, the port sector in Ba Ria – Vung Tau will be enough admitting about 120 million tons of goods per year.

In particular, from early this year, in the province of Ba Ria – Vung Tau has three deep-water port of Port International SP – PSA, New Port Cai Mep deep water port PTSC has completed and put into operation.

With the ability to be able to get at a much larger vessels, the three ports has been really open new trade opportunities for this land.

Mr. Tran Minh Sanh, Chairman of Ba Ria – Vung Tau for, in addition to the three deep-water port, only within two to three years, the area along the Thi Vai River, Tan Thanh district will have dozens of container port can absorb large tonnage vessels.

Currently, provincial leaders are directed to other departments, units are fiercely relevant focus for the construction of infrastructure for ports, roads firstly that port, highway 51 , line 965, the logistics services in the port.

Said the Deputy Minister of Transport – Transport Tran Doan Tho, every port in the area of Ba Ria – Vung Tau go into work with an international stature, does not alone Ba Ria – Vung Tau that the region southern key economic conditions are good for development.

The qualification of Mr. Tran Doan Tho is entirely correct, and right from the beginning, the planning, seaport system in Ba Ria – Vung Tau has also target this purpose.

Not only that, the development of sea ports in Ba Ria-Vung Tau with a mission higher than both, that is creating conditions to make moving the seaports from the domestic firms, to help Vietnam against traffic congestion and limit environmental pollution.

With a vision that, within 10 years, Ba Ria – Vung Tau has attracted dozens of investors participate in building the port. If the items do have the opportunity to base market area Cai Mep port group – Thi Vai in Tan Thanh district, where many projects are focusing greater’ll see, “health” of the region are key Southern transfer significantly .

As noted by baodautu.vn, foreign investors are investing in ports in Ba Ria – Vung Tau are corporations exploiting maritime transport and seaport in the world. Which may matter to the big names such as PSA (Singapore), Marsk (Denmark), SSA Marine (USA), CMA-CGM (France).

More importantly, most of the specialized ports and container ports such as are large scale, designed for ship tonnage 80000-160000 tons.

This is the basis to verify information provided her more confidence that, Ba Ria – Vung Tau will be the place to gather the bustling seaport and modern in the near future.

But the prospect does not balance the worries after 2010, when a series of new projects started, the instability due to lack of synchronization in the development of transport systems and services to the port strongly outbreak.

At the recent Gourmet Food and Wine Expo in Toronto I lead a tutored tasting of 6 wines from Portuga

At the recent Gourmet Food and Wine Expo in Toronto I lead a tutored tasting of 6 wines from Portugal at Connoisseur’s Corner. There was a white from the Alentejo region, a white from Terras do Sado, a red Vinho Verde, a red from Terres do Sado, a white Port, and a Ruby Port.

Tasting Wine at Connoisseur's Corner

I started with a very brief history of the wine industry in Portugal and then went on to talk about the specific regions where the wines came from. I gave a short lesson on how to taste wine and then we got to the good stuff – the tasting.

Connoisseur's Corner

Here are the tasting notes from the wines we tasted that day.

Loios 2008 White: This wine comes from the Alentejo region of Portugal where they have large fluctuations between day and night temperatures. During the day the temperatures can reach as high as 35°C and then plummet to 15° to 18° C at night. The cooling down in the evening helps the grapes recover from the scorching temperatures of the day enabling them to retain some of their natural acidity. This wine is a blend of two grapes: Roupeiro and Rabo Ovelha. It was fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel and has not seen any oak at all. It has a light straw colour with a slight greenish hue. There are delicate aromas of mineral and lime zest. This wine is light-bodied with the same mineral and citrus flavours on the palate. This is a very refreshing everyday wine that could be paired nicely with most seafood and light salads.

Quinta do Bacalhoa Serras de Azeitao 2008: Made in Terras do Sado, a vinho regional region in southern Portugal where there is a warm, maritime climate. This area is originally the home of sweet fortified wines from the Muscatel (Muscat) grape. The grapes used in this wine are Fernao Pires and Moscatel de Setubal. It is a light lemon yellow colour and has grapey floral aromas, typical of the Muscat grape, lifted by subtle hints of straw and mineral. It is dry with a round, smooth texture, and rich flavours of ripe tropical fruit with medium acid. This wine would pair well with oriental cuisine, grilled octopus, chicken and turkey.

Ponte da Barca Red Vinho Verde: In North America we are more familiar with the white wines that hail from this region in the northwest of Portugal, but up until the 1980s most of the wine produced in Vinho Verde was, in fact, red. Most red Vinho Verde is consumed within Portugal with very little being exported. Red Vinho Verde is made predominantly with the Vinhao grape which is one of the few grapes that has red flesh giving the wine a very dark ruby colour. The wine has aromas of red berries and has a rather raspy angular texture with high acid and a medium length. Definitely not for everyone.

Comporta 2005: From the Terras do Sado region. This wine is made with Aragonez (one of the Portuguese names Tempranillo) and Alicante Bouchet. Interestingly, Alicante Bouchet is also a red grape that has red flesh instead of the greyish-white flesh of most red grapes. This is a huge wine with dark fruit aromas of damson and other black fruit with hints of tobacco and leather. It is very full-bodied with opulent tannins and a rich, velvetty texture. This wine has the stuffing to grow and evolve in the cellar for many more years. Although it is not available in our market yet, it will be released sometime in the summer of 2010. It’s not going to be cheap though, at around $50 a bottle.

Fonseca White Port: Another wine we don’t see a lot of in our market. Apparently a substantial amount of white grapes are grown in the Douro Valley and all shippers produce a certain amount of white port. Most are aged for no more than 18 months generally in cement or stainless steel tanks. Wood aging does add character. The individual wines used in Fonseca White Port were aged in oak vats for 3 years. The grapes used are Gouveio, Arinto, Voisinho, and Rabigato. There are aromas of sultana raisins, white peach, spice, and toast. The 102 g/l residual sugar gives it a very smooth, luscious texture. This wine would be great with clam chowder, liver pate, or smoked salmon. It’s not unusual for white port to be made into a cocktail. A popular one is the “Portonic” which is equal parts white port and tonic with a dash of lime juice and garnished with a slice of lime. Very refreshing!

Fonseca Bin 27: Produced from 100% grapes grown in Fonseca Guimaraens own vineyards. It is aged for 4 years in large chestnut vats and is lightly filtered before bottling. It has pronounced aromas of raisins, prunes and dense black fruit. There’s also a hint of spiciness. The concentrated flavours fill your mouth with dark berries and black cherries. There are lots firm tannins and it has a long balanced finish. This port is meant to be consumed when purchased and is not meant for “laying down”. At $15.95 it’s a great value!

Everyone’s favourite lawyer-em-up series Phoenix Wright is heading to Wiiware courtesy of Capc

Everyone’s favourite lawyer-em-up series Phoenix Wright is heading to Wiiware courtesy of Capcom. If you haven’t played these games, they are a mix of point and click puzzle solving and dialogue navigation, with a smattering of great humour thrown in for good measure. One case involves rookie lawyer Phoenix cross-examining a parrot for example. *ahem*

Three individual titles are set to hit Wiiware in Spring 2010, starting with the superb Ace Attorney, which sees Wright defending his bumbling oaf of a best mate Larry Butz while becoming entangled in a much deeper murder case. Justice for All sees Wright squaring off against whip-wielding lawyer Franziska von Karma, daughter of big baddie Manfred von Karma. Finally Trials and Tribulations pits you against the ruthless Godot, the meanest mofo this side of the jury stand.

While UK and Europe gamers first got to grips with the series in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney on DS, the series actually started in Japan as a series on the Gameboy Advance. These Wiiware titles are essentially ports of the GBA originals blown up to fit your TV with all the pixelation and grainyness intact. It’s a tad lazy, but the games are such good fun that it doesn’t really matter.

See what I mean?

and again:

Ok, so I’m a strong believer that games don’t have to look good to be amazing and I wish more people could understand this, but with a much slicker DS version already available, surely Capcom could have seen fit to release this on Wiiware instead?

Still, if you can overlook the visuals, this will be a must-have collection for fans of point and click games everywhere when it launches on Wiiware next year.

Atticus has been having such a great week that I almost forget that he has leukemia. I almost forget

Atticus has been having such a great week that I almost forget that he has leukemia. I almost forget about how much our lives have changed in just a few weeks. Our world is centered around this diagnosis now and it is starting to feel normal now. Staying in doesn’t feel so confining anymore, the meds are just part of our routine and going to the clinic once a week is a welcome break from sitting at home.

Anyhow, back to Atticus’s awesome week. The only time I can tell that he has cancer is when he walks. It’s so very shaky and stiff looking, but oh how he tries! He can climb up the ladder to Sophie’s bed again and he can do something that resembles a run. He hasn’t had to rest a lot like he was before. He is back to having no appetite, so he doesn’t look puffy and bloated. The best part… he’s smiling and laughing often and interacting with us again. I missed my baby when he was on steroids and couldn’t even turn himself over without assistance. He’s back though. I just wonder for how long before he gets sick again, before the chemo catches up with us again.

His port is misbehaving and causing all sorts of issues. The past 3 times that it has been accessed it has been difficult. It has taken multiple tries to get in properly. Not that the nurses aren’t able to properly do it though, it has nothing to do with their abilities, but rather the stupid thing is almost under his armpit and it moves around a lot. So aside from being a pain just to get into, they’ve been having trouble flushing and drawing from it. The first 2 weeks of the problematic port they couldn’t get it to flush easily, but it would draw blood easy peasy. Last week, the nurse had the opposite issue. It would flush easier than I’ve ever seen it flush, but would not draw blood. It did a bit at first when she checked to make sure she was in, but after she had taped it down and tried to draw labs it wouldn’t draw blood anymore. So she consulted with IV therapy and the stand-in Onc and we decided to give him a dose of TPA in case it was a clot blockage. So that was given and still no blood. So we went ahead and took blood for his CBC from his finger so that we could get the labs going for his lumbar puncture. She checked for a blood return once more and nothing. He goes off to his LP and everything goes really well. We come back and order him lunch and he rests for 30 minutes at an incline. She comes back in and tries for a blood return and gets… nothing! So the Onc orders more TPA and finally after another couple of hours she gets a trickle of blood through his line. It’s really barely dribbling out though, but I say that we’ll take it and lets get out of here.

By now we are the last people in the day area. I just want to go home.

The Onc said that if the port gives us a problem tomorrow that they’ll probably order a dye study to check placement and flow. That depending on what they find they may need to reposition or replace it altogether.

Crap.

So tomorrow he has a lumbar puncture with intrathecal chemo. He’s at home next week and the following week! I’m really excited that we don’t have to spend Thanksgiving in the almost home area or clinic. Funny how his treatment protocol lined up so nicely around the holiday.

While learning sockets in Perl (to put it more acurately, while learning the IO::Socket module), I c

While learning sockets in Perl (to put it more acurately, while learning the IO::Socket module), I came across a few implementations of Perl portscanners which, even though functional, were far from practical. I know, I know, you can just get Nmap if you’re looking for a good portscanner, but hey, you can build your own scanner and make it decent.

The implementations I often found (there were also some php versions) were too slow because they worked by looping through the port numbers and trying them sequentially. All I did was create some threads to speed things up, and the resulting speed is actually acceptable. The following code loops through the port range specified, creating rounds of 30 threads to test the ports by calling the “testarporta()” sub routine on the current iteration’s port.

On to the code:

#!/usr/bin/perl
use IO::Socket;
use Threads;

#+---------------------------------------------------------+
#|                                                         |
#|               Fanatic Port Scanner v 1.0                |
#|                  c0d3d by guidj0s                       |
#|                                                         |
#+--:: About ::--------------------------------------------+
#|							   |
#| Spawns 30 threads per round (more than enough). |
#|  							   |
#|							   |
#|	usage:						   |
#|							   |
#|	fanatic.pl [ip] [startport] [endport]		   |
#|                                                         |
#+---------------------------------------------------------+

sub testarporta{
  my $tentar = new IO::Socket::INET (
  	PeerAddr => $_[0],
  	PeerPort => $_[1],
  	Proto => 'tcp',
	Timeout => '1'
  );

  if ($tentar) {
  	print "$_[1] ";
  	$portaberta = $_[1];
  	open(logar, '>>fanatic_scanresults.txt');
  	print logar "$portaberta ";
  	close logar;
	close($tentar);
  }

}

if (@ARGV < 3){

	die "\n\n\n    Failed. Usage: $0 [ip] [startport] [endport]\n\n\n";

}

my ($ip, $pi, $pf) = @ARGV;

print "\n\n -------------------------------:: Fanatic Port Scanner by guidj0s ::-------\n\n";
print " Working...\n\n\n  Open Ports: ";

open(scanlog, '>>fanatic_scanresults.log');
print scanlog "\n\n\n-----------:: Last Scan Results for $ip ::--------------\n\n";
print scanlog "\nPort Range Selected: $pi-$pf";
print scanlog "\n\n\nOpen Ports: ";
close scanlog;

while ($pi <= $pf){
	for my $controle (1..30){
		my $agente = threads->new(\&testarporta, $ip, $pi);
		$pi++;
	}
	foreach (threads->list){
		$_->join;
	}
}

	print "\n\n\t\t\tScan finished.\n\n";

As you can see, the ports found open are logged to fanatic_scanresults.log. If you looked at the code you realized a port is considered “open” only when a connection can be established on it.

The Win32 GUI version

I did make one. I coded it using the Win32::GUI module. I know TK would have been a better option (as I found out quite soon), but that’s what I went with and I really don’t think it’s worth the hassle to migrate (I’m not working on it again any time soon).

As you may know, Win32::GUI isn’t thread safe. In this case, whenever I tried to access a Win32::GUI object from within a child thread, the program crashed. I solved the problem by creating a shared variable ($aberta), which is updated everytime an open port is found. I also created a control variable ($ultima), which is used to check whether the last value printed out/logged was already printed or if the value currently stored in $aberta has already been handled (so I only need to print it when $aberta != $ultima. After doing so, I update $ultima with the current value stored in $aberta), and then access the Win32::GUI element from the main thread.

I added a functionality to the program, which is the option of providing a portlist plain-text file to scan for specific ports only. Enough talking, here’s the code: http://guidjos.justfree.com/fntcgui.txt

Now that I look at my code again, I see there’s a silly mistake. You should never access files like I did here:

open(scanlog, ">>$logto");

But I’ll leave this for another post, as this one’s long enough. The handling of user-input related mistakes isn’t really thorough either, so feel free to improve the code (sharing the new version would be cool, I might give you some space to talk about it and share your code here on the blog ).

When I started this blog I promised to give recipes with beer as one of the ingredients. There

When I started this blog I promised to give recipes with beer as one of the ingredients. There’s not been enough of that, so here’s a great dish for winter evenings – Sussex Steak.

Port and porter are an old combination, known in Ireland as a “corpse reviver”. In 2000 John O’Hanlon, born in Kerry, South West Ireland but now brewing on a farm in Devon, used this idea to produce a new style of bottled beer, containing two bottles of port to every 36 gallons of a “stout” that is really the strength of an old-time porter, to make O’Hanlon’s Original Port Stout. The beer won a top prize in the Campaign for Real Ale’s Champion Winter Beer awards for 2002. This dish is also an old one, and why it is called Sussex Steak no one seems to know. However, the long, slow cooking makes for beautifully tender beef, and delicious gravy. To make it a bit more “Sussex” you could use Harvey’s Imperial Russian Stout, from Lewes, the county town, as the “porter” bit, but any strong porter or stout will do.

This would never make it into a Delia Smith cookbook, because it’s too easy to get wrong: if the steam level inside the dish drops while cooking, you’ll end up with steak like boot leather, so as the instructions say, no peeking: trust your oven.

INGREDIENTS:
1kg (2lb) lean rump or chuck steak, sliced 2.5cm (1in) thick
Flour and seasoning
1 large onion, sliced
30ml (1fl oz) mushroom ketchup
100ml (3 fl oz) port
100ml (3 fl oz) porter
(or substitute 75ml port and 125ml O’Hanlon’s Original Port Stout)

METHOD:
Season the flour, rub into the sliced steak. Lay the steak flat in an oven-proof dish.
Layer sliced onion on top, mix and pour in the ketchup, port and stout.
Cover as tightly as you can, using layers of and cooking foil tied round the dish with string.
Cook in oven at 135C (275F) for three hours. Do not be tempted to peek while the dish is cooking: it relies on the tight seal to keep in the steam from the port and porter, which tenderise the steak to perfection.

Serve with mashed potato, steamed green vegetables of your choice and field mushrooms baked for an hour with butter in a sealed dish.
