Variety.com has reported that director Kenneth Branagh has cast Thor’s allies, The Warrior’s Three, for the titular film.

Stuart Townsend has been cast as Fandral the Dashing, a character loosely based on Errol Flynn.  Townsend is well known for having been cast as Aragorn in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, but was replaced by Viggo Mortensen after Townsend was deemed to have been too young for the role, weeks into production.

Tadanobu Asano has been cast as Hogun the Grim.  Asano is well known for his role as the Yakuza enforcer Kakihira in Ichi the Killer.

Lastly, Ray Stevenson was selected for the role of Volstagg the Valiant, the most trustworthy of Thor’s allies.   Stevenson was previously in another Marvel film, as Frank Castle in Punisher: War Zone.

The three join a star-studded cast including:

Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Lord of Asgard and father of Thor.

Fresh off his Star Trek (2009) role, Chris Hemsworth as the title hero, Thor.

Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Thor’s human love interest.

Tom Hiddleston as the villain and stepbrother to Thor, Loki

And, finally, Kyle XY’s Jamie Alexander as the Asgardian Warrior and eventual girlfriend of Thor, Lady Sif.

Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment will release the film May 20th, 2011.

Recently I received my periodic email newsletter from Senator Voinovich (R-OH).  It describes how the Senator recently took to the Senate floor to comment on the national debt.  Sen. Voinovich used “The Emperor’s New Clothes” fairytale to describe the fiscal catastrophe this country is facing.  He told his colleagues and President Obama, “the emperor has no clothes, and we are naked in terms of dealing with our deficits and national debt.”  The Senator pointed out that the irony of the situation is that the American people know we are naked and so does the rest of the world.  He questioned whether we can afford a new trillion-dollar health care program when we have yet to deal with our current fiscal responsibilities.  The letter goes on to describe how the debt has grown from $5.6 trillion in 1999 when Sen. Voinovich first came to Washington, to a staggering $11.8 trillion today – a more than 100% increase in 10 years.  Sen. Voinovich “will continue to shed light on these catastrophic economic facts until Congress takes real action to reverse these harmful trends.”  Sounds good, doesn’t it?

While I applaud Senator Voinovich’s comments, the fact of the matter is that the Senator is just part of the problem.  In just the last several months, Senator Voinovich has voted in lock-step with his Democratic colleague from Ohio, Sherrod Brown, in favor of several spending bills including the Cash for Clunkers $2 billion extension and a $23 billion spending bill for the Agriculture, Rural Development, FDA and Related Agencies Appropriations Act.  He also voted with Senator Brown against the Thune amendment on Concealed Firearms and on the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.  Beyond that, back in January Senator Voinovich was one of six Republican Senators who voted in favor of the TARP fund bill.  Senator Voinovich has a history of voting in favor of spending bills including President Bush’s stimulus plan last year and an override of President Bush’s veto of a Medicare expansion bill in 2008.  In fact, Voinovich ranks 43^rd out of 49 Republican Senators according to the American Conservative Union’s Lifetime rating (http://www.acuratings.org/2008senate.htm).

Senator Voinovich announced earlier this year that he will be retiring at the end of his term.  When he made his announcement in January he stated that he wanted to spend the next two years focused on the nation’s problems rather than on a reelection bid.  Well Senator, nine months have passed since that announcement and you have continued to contribute to the nation’s problems, not solve them, as shown by your voting record.

Former Ohio Representative Rob Portman has begun a campaign for Voinovich’s seat and has received the Ohio Republican Party’s endorsement.  Portman’s lifetime ACU rating in the house is somewhat better than that of Voinovich’s in the Senate, but Portman is still a Republican Party ideologue who will put the good of the party above that of the country.

Senator Voinovich is right about one thing:  the American people and the rest of the world DO know they (congress) are naked.  They continue to parade a make-believe economy and economic policy around as if everything is ok.  We see the truth.  It’s time to elect truly conservative candidates who will clothe this country in good old-fashioned sound fiscal policy “clothes”.

V per Vendetta, uscito nel Marzo 2006 sotto la regia di James Mc Teigue, ha unito la passione per i fumetti non distante dall’immaginario di Sin City o Trecento, ispirato dai Marvel, ambientato in una Gran Bretagna futuristica e distopica (= antiutopia) del 2019 in un regima repressivo, immerso in un quadro storico surreale, tra la satira sull’attuale sistema politico e le cattiverie mondiali riguardo le inutili guerre attorniate da un pensiero di convenienza e a volte stupido dei grandi o piccoli uomini politici, fino ad un evidente accenno all’olocausto.
Attrice protagonista Natalie Portman nel ruolo di Evey Hammond, salvata, nel film, da “V”, uomo mascherato che trova subito una casuale e brillante coincidenza nella somiglianza dei due nomi. Lui combatte contro una tirannia soffocante, ma soprattutto sfrutta la sua abilità per incitare il popolo ad unirsi allo scontro, lei rappresenta la razionalità e l’innocenza di colei che nasconde la rabbia e spesso si piega alla società volontariamente bendata. E rivoluzione sia, perché una noce sola nel sacco non fa rumore, ma un uomo solo basta ad invocare una significativa svolta storica. Aprite gli occhi e avanzate popolo!
Eccezionale l’interpretazione, pungente e stimolante provocazione, in uno scenario attuale ben lontano dall’attuale. Freddo e senza peli sulla lingua, V rappresenta la forza morale impulsiva che ogni uomo conserva sotto una maschera. Giustizia, Libertà, Uguaglianza.
Ottima Scenografia, buon cast, fantastici i protagonisti, trama coinvolgente, forte, diretta!

Curiosita:
Il film è tratto dal Graphic novel di Alan Moore “V for Vendetta” (uscito intorno al 1982) fu un gran successo che tracciò la storia dei fumetti. Autore di fumetti e scrittore inglese. Watchmen è un’altra sua opera (ripreso dal film uscito nel 2009 con lo stesso titolo).

La maschera di V rappresenta Guy Faux (Guido Fawkes), anarchico inglese, membro del gruppo cospiratore cattolico inglese conosciuto per il tentato omicidio del re Giacomo I e tutti i membri del parlamento inglese nel 5 Novembre 1905 (in Nuova Zelanda in questo giorno si festeggia il fallimento di tale attentato bruciando dei pupazzi che rappresentano G.Fawkes). Storia interessante che consiglio di leggere.

Natalie Portman che ha vinto il premio come migliore attrice all’ USA saturn Award, la ricordate? E’ la ragazzina “Mathilda” protagonista di “Leon” (film drammatico uscito nel 1994) con Jean Reno, il Killer che l’ha salvata e si portava dietro sempre una pianta che poi le lascia prima di morire per lei. Film Eccezionale.

Ziek, gestoord, pornografisch, gewelddadig, bizar. Slechts een kleine selectie van de woorden die zijn gebruikt door critici om hun afkeer voor Lars von Trier’s magnus opus Antichrist te laten merken. Eigenlijk is het niet eens zinvol om te beginnen aan een voorbeschouwing van de nieuwste film van -naar eigen zeggen- wereld’s beste cineast. Antichrist werd met de grond gelijk gemaakt door pers en publiek bij de eerste screening in Cannes eerder dit jaar. Toch ben ik benieuwd, zeer benieuwd…

Nooit eerder zijn de verwachtingen voor een nieuwe blockbuster zo hoog geweest als voor James Cameron’s Avatar. Een revolutionair 3D-spektakelstuk, als we de geluksvogels mogen geloven die de 20 minuten durende preview zagen eerder dit jaar. Mijn voorspelling? Een recordopbrengst aan ouderwetse dollars en historische cinema.

Brothers

Regie: Jim Sheridan (In the Name of the Father, In America)

Met: Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire, Natalie Portman

Een Amerikaanse soldaat gaat naar Afghanistan en komt om het leven. Zijn broer ontfermt zich over de vrouw van de soldaat en krijgt zelfs een relatie met haar. De soldaat blijkt toch te leven en komt weer thuis. Intens drama van Jim Sheridan, de Ierse straatvechter die bekend staat om zijn rauwe en realistische aanpak, maar flink de bocht uitvloog met het misbaksel Get Rich or Die Tryin’ (50 Cent!). Nu met goede acteurs.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

Regie: Terry Gilliam (Brazil, Twelve Monkeys)

Met: Heath Ledger, Johnny Depp, Jude Law, Colin Farrell, Christopher Plummer, Tom Waits

Toen Heath Ledger afgelopen februari overleed, was hij net bezig met de opnames voor dit surrealistische epos. Het script werd vervolgens aangepast, Depp, Law en Farrell vervingen hem en Terry Gilliam ging vrolijk verder met filmen. Ledger gaat zichzelf definitief bij de groten der aarde voegen ook al is hij er zelf niet meer. Doctor Parnassus wordt een klassieker, dat staat vast.

The Limits of Control

Regie: Jim Jarmusch (Down by Law, Mystery Train)

Met: Isaach de Bankole, Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Gael Garcia Bernal, John Hurt

Met een van de meest originele moderne filmmakers aan het roer lijkt The Limits of Control weer een ware lust voor het oog te worden. Cinematografisch fantastisch met altijd een lichte twist van het bizarre. Niemand die dat zo goed kan als Jarmusch. Hoofdrol is verrassend genoeg voor de Ivoriaanse veteraan Isaach de Bankole. Bill Murray is ook weer van de partij, zoals het hoort in een Jarmusch.

Kenneth Branagh’s Thor has picked up a couple more cast members. Colm Feore and Jaimie Alexander are the latest additions to the cast which already features Chris Hemsworth,recently seen in JJ Abrams’ Star Trek reboot as George Kirk, in the title role of the Norse god of thunder banished to Earth to live among humans, Tom Hiddleston as the movie’s villain, Loki, the god of mischief, and Natalie Portman as Thor’s mortal love interest, Jane Foster, all according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Alexander, best known for the TV show Kyle XY, will be playing Sif, an Asgardian warrior who “can hold her own against any man.” Before working on Thor, she will be joining Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway in Love and Other Drugs.Feore’s part, apparently a villain, is shrouded in mystery. The studio has not sent the actors scripts yet. Colm Feore has recently been seen on the TV shows 24 and The Listener, and has appeared in the movies Paycheck, The Chronicles of Riddick, The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Changeling.

Kenneth Branagh is signed to direct, and is “deep in preproduction.” Branagh’s involvement came after a “lot of meetings and a lot of phone calls,” according to President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige recently told Examiner.com.  Feige said that the well-known Shakespearean (and Prof. Gilderoy Lockhart in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) was “intrigued by the material and really connected to it.” Feige had been initially impressed with Branagh’s ability to make the classics accessible to the masses, as with Much Ado About Nothing and Henry V, which he expects will also bring toThor.

“People who expect Thor to be speaking in ‘thees’ and ‘thous’ will be surprised,” Feige says.

Natalie Portman es una actriz que está dejando huella en el séptmo arte, ya no solo por las exelentes interpretaciones, sino por la facilidad que tiene de cambiar de imagen. Esta  joven Israelí nació en Jerusalen el 9 de Junio de 1981, y a pesar de su juventud, cuenta con una dilatada carrera cinematográfica donde es difícil decidir que interpretación es mejor.

Comenzó su carrera con 12 años y la compaginó como modelo, pero debido a su a baja estatura se decantó definitivamente por el cine. Los papeles fueron surgiendo rápidamente, aunque algunos fueron rechazados evitando interpretar desnudos y escenas subidas de tono.

Quizás el papel más característico y que le ofreció verdadera fama fue su papel de reina Amidala en la trilogía “Star Wars”, de George Lucas.

El post de hoy va dirigido especialmente a la película “Closer”, donde comparte reparto junto a Julia Roberts, Jude Law y Clive Owen. La película es buenísima, y os la recomiendo si no la habéis visto, y merece un post dedicado exclusivamente a la película, así que iré al grano y explicaré el motivo de este post. Y es que durante la película cambia de imagen y de peinado un montón de veces, lo que hace más especial al personaje de “Alice” que interpreta en “Closer”.

1. Pelo rojizo y corto.

Cuando empieza la película, “Alice” sufre un pequeño accidente y conoce a Jude Law “Daniel”, un escritor necrológico, que le acompaña al hospital y con el que entabla una relación sentimental. Dicho peinado le confiere un aire libre, sin ataduras, sin complicaciones, en busca de nada.

2. Corto por detrás, escalonado, un poco más largo por delante y frequillo a un lado.

“Alice” presta su imagen para que Julia Roberts, la fotografie. Este peinado le da al personaje un aire dulce, delicado, dependiente, y sobre todo le da un aire sencillo y tranquilo.

3. Corto y recto y flequillo.

Pasado un año “Alice”, asiste a una exposición, la de una prestigiosa fotógrafa, Julia Roberts, donde aparece expuesta una de la fotos de “Alice”. Este peinado le ofrece un aspecto más frio y  desconfiado al personaje.

4. Peluca corta recta y de color rosa.

“Alice” aparece en una barra de striptease, lugar donde trabaja. Saldrá en otra misma escena con una peluca  rubia, lisa y larga.

Ambas pelucas le sirven para dar al personaje sensualidad, y sobre todo un toque de misticismo y soledad.

5. Pelo largo y con un cierto aire ondulado. En la última escena aparece con el pelo largo, un estilo totalmente distinto a los anteriores, lo que en cierto modo le da un cambio al personaje, que rompe con todo y busca un cambio en su vida.

El motivo de este post es básicamente hacernos pensar en lo importante que es la imagen que tenemos. Como nuestro peinado y nuestro estilísmo es parte de nuestra personalidad, y es curioso, como un peinado nos puede trasmitir tantas cosas, desde frialdad, hasta dulzura, libertad, dependencia, sensualidad…y cientos de atributos más. Quizás esta película es un claro ejemplo, y han tenido muy en cuenta los cambios que sufre el personaje a lo largo del tiempo. Esperemos que a Natalie Portman no se le ocurra nunca más, aunque sea por exigencias del guión, raparse la cabeza, aunque he de reconocer que aún así está guapa.

Tai gi filmas pasakoja apie gan banalią temą filmams, apie meilę. Apie įvairias figūras, kurios susidaro, dažniausiai būna trikampis, bet šį kart susidarė keturkampis. Viskas labai painu ir sudėtinga, bet turbūt realiam gyvenime irgi yra taip. Kartais reikia daryti sprendimus, kartais drastiškus.

Keistos istorijos, keista (netikėta) pabaiga. Rašytojas, striptizo šokėja, fotografe ir gydytojas. Kas tarp jų bendro? Keturkampis.

Keturi geri aktoriai, na geri ta prasme pripažinti ir žinomi. Nors man asmeniškai Julia Roberts niekad nepatikdavo, bet šiam filme visai normaliai “susižiūrėjo”. Be jos dar vaidina Natalie Portman, Judie Law ir Clive Owen, taip pat, manau, visiems žinomi aktoriai.

Anyway romantinė drama kaip žanras turbūt labiau skirta moterim, bet visai gerai susižiūrėjo ir vertinčiau tikrai gan palankiai. Siūlau pažiūrėti. Dabar verdiktas.

Hoy solo quedan ruinas. 1700 años de inactividad desde que en el siglo II el estado romano abandonase la explotación de las minas hasta su reapertura en el siglo XIX tras el descubrimiento del filón Jaroso en Almería y más tarde, tras la Primera Guerra Mundial y la crisis de 1929 de nuevo abandonadas. Posteriormente, en los años 50 la empresa Peñaroya  consiguó reactivar la actividad minera hasta el agotamiento de los yacimientos, su cierre definitivo a finales de los años 80 y la declaración en 2009 de bien de interés cultural con la categoría de sitio histórico que pone fin a una historia de trabajo en la minería en La Unión.

Como decía, hoy sólo quedan ruinas. Viejos vestigios de otros tiempos, de otros muchos hombres, mujeres y niños que vivieron de la mina y para la mina. Sin embargo podemos intentar encontrarnos con ese pasado hoy más cercano que hace unos años. Actualmente la Fundación Sierra Minera es la responsable del Proyecto Jara que contempla la recuperación completa de la Mina Las Matildes, desde 2005 Centro de Interpretación Minero. Además, gracias al Consorcio Turístico de la Sierra Minera, en La Unión se ha recuperado ahora la Mina Agrupa Vicenta, una de las minas visitables más grandes de Europa, con más de  4.000 metros cuadrados abiertos al público a 80 metros de profundidad, gigantescas galerías, extraordinarias bóvedas, enormes pilares y hasta un lago subterráneo de aguas rojizas que nos trasladarán a otra época en la que vemos cómo vivían y trabajaban los antiguos mineros. Yo aprovecho para invitaros a visitarla. Dicen que es comparable al Teatro Romano de Cartagena en cuanto a la relevancia que puede adquirir en el futuro; creo que es una comparación demasiado presuntuosa en la que unos dos mil años de historia de por medio marcan algo de diferencia, pero bueno, no quita para que resulte de gran interés y por supuesto, una experiencia única para los sentidos en la que por cierto, este año se celebró un desfile de modelos de moda flamenca y un recital de cantes dentro de la programación del Festival de Cante de las Minas. Como os decía, una experiencia única.

A friend of mine who attended Harvard told me that he used to see Natalie at the on campus Hillel, and described her presence as quite subtle, a regular Haaaavaaad girl. I was by no means surprised to hear that Natalie was laid back, any chick who played a 12 year old seductress that inspired a generation of spank banks to lower their age considerations is a down ass chick. I had met so many pompous chicken heads in college that it was outright refreshing to consider the fact that a precocious and sexy woman like Natalie was doing right. Her movies are for the most part a wash, either you like her stuff or you couldn’t care less, or you’re that guy who’s obsessed with hot Jewish girls and in that case, she’s your Ganesha!

So it was a completely devastating blow to my previously cemented opinion about Ms. Portman when I stumbled across this newswire crudlet:

“I’ve mostly been listening to dirty rap lately. That’s sort of my scene,” she says. “Really, really obscene hip-hop. I love it so much. It makes me laugh and then it makes me want to dance,”

She likes “dirty rap”, yeah she said it, “dirty rap”. As opposed to the clean rap that most white hollywood girls are listening to? My god this is nauseating. I’m a fan of cluster bombs and flammables, hence I love pulling the race card, and I’m placing it right on Portman’s forehead. Let me tell you this Natalie, rap is not “dirty”, it’s “durty”, and you’re not a fan, you’re a trick. Oh yeah and that rap video you did for SNL just contextualized to shit.

Thor, the Norse God of Thunder, is scheduled to leave his home in Asgard and make the long trip down the Rainbow Bridge to the multiplex in 2011. According to IMDB, renowned actor Kenneth Branagh will step behind the camera in January 2010 to film a big screen adventure based on the popular Marvel Comics character.
In the early 1960’s, comic book legends Stan Lee and Jack “King” Kirby created a new superhero based on Thor, the Norse God of Thunder. First appearing in “Journey into Mystery #83,” Thor started out as the alter ego of Dr. Donald Blake, a surgeon who takes a fateful vacation to Scandinavia.

Blake, who walks with the help of a cane, discovers a group of alien invaders and, when he tries to flee, he fell into a subterranean cave. Frustrated and angry because of his limp, Blake picks up a wooden staff he finds in the cave and strikes a nearby boulder. The doctor’s angry actions generate a flash of lightning which transforms him into Thor and the wooden staff into a mighty hammer.

Now a living, breathing Norse God, Blake frees himself from the cave and promptly beats the alien invaders into

submission. Returning to his human form by tapping his hammer upon the ground, Dr. Donald Blake begins a series of adventures as Thor, which have continued, in one form or another, for nearly 40 years.

For the 2011 movie, actor Chris Hemsworth will be flexing his muscles as the Mighty Thor. Hemsworth recently popped up on the radar for his supporting role in “A Perfect Getaway,” a thriller set against a beautiful Hawaiian backdrop. Hemsworth played a very stoic hitchhiker named Kale, who, along with his girlfriend (Marley Shelton), may or may not have been responsible for a brutal double-murder.

In the comic book adaptation, Hemsworth stars opposite Natalie Portman, who played Senator Padme Amidala in the last “Star Wars” trilogy. For “Thor,” Portman plays Jane Foster, Dr. Donald Blake’s devoted nurse who also is madly in love with him.
