   The day went quite well. No major disasters. A couple of annoying things, but nothing too dramatic. I’m down at the IT department in the morning. Really looking forward to that experience (not). I don’t know what it is about IT people. They are all nice guys, but I could not spend all day with them.

   I managed to design the panto tickets and poster. The graphic I found looks quite good. I just hope the like it, and that there are not too many changes. From what I understand, they need to go to print this week, so if i need to make any changes, I’ll have to be quick. They have not given me any ticket prices, so that may mean an amendment to the poster. I will have to wait and see. Eldest is coming up for a rehearsal tomorrow night, so he can get some feedback then. I suppose the main criticism will come on Wednesday, when the director sees it. Wonder if they will need something for a t-shirt.

Typography is one of the most compelling courses I haven taken at the Art Institution. Learning the basic history and terminology only compel me better understand layout and type.  Here are some examples of promotional posters that uses typography to create a form.

teThis campaign was for my Advance Design class.  We had to choose a cause and create ads and promotional/take away pieces.  I took breast cancer and tried to turn it from a death sentence into being something preventable.

Making a poster of sorts.  I need to finish this asap but I wonder if it’s possible >_<”…  some stuff to tweak with yet, like her arm and his belt. I’m really having a lot of fun here <3

UPDATE: Yay, managed to finish the sketch and will be getting a good night’s sleep. Hope sleep cooperates with me tonight.  (heh, I wonder if Miyuki’s colour schemes are influencing me…)

…gibt es auf einer Seite namens Golden Age Comic Book Series, die ich heute grade via Nerdcore entdeckt habe. Übrigens ist das hier grade eine Premiere: Der erste Blogeintrag, den ich aus der Uni, ganauergesagt von einbem Stabi-Computer schreibe. Und das alles nur weil eine gewisse Person mir verboten hat nach Hause zu gehen Aber zurück zum Film. Neben Bildern von sehr interessanten Vintage-Comics  oder auch von Marilyn Monroe gibt es hier auch extrem coole alte Filmposter zu finden, z.B. alte Horror-Schinken mit Bela Lugosi und Boris Karloff oder aus dem (S)Exploitation-Genre (zu deutsch frei übersetzt etwa:  Softporno mit künstlerischem Anspruch) . Beispiele für beides siehe unten. Allesamt sehr künstlerisch gestaltete Poster zu Filmen, von denen man nicht gadacht hätte, das es sie geben könnte. Leider ist kein Shop dabei, wo man die Dinger kaufen könnte – muss ich doch wieder auf’m Flohmarkt am Sonntag schauen.

I like the ‘Keep calm and carry on’ slogan, but I much prefer this one… ‘Keep It Simple Stupid’.

I produced this poster today. Maybe I should be doing other things but… I first saw this slogan on the KISS single and I have seen a few design posters since then all of which have been too complicated. I hope this is simple enough? I’m going to stick this up by my computer now and try to stick to it.

Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead, Star Trek) and David Tennant (Doctor Who) play the titular characters. Now we have the bare bones promo poster and synopsis.

WILLIAM BURKE and WILLIAM HARE are scratching out a living in 1830s Edinburgh. After yet another failed business venture, they return to Hare’s lodging house to find that their tenant has suddenly died on rent day. As the boys decide how to dispose of the body over a drink, they discover that a corpse can fetch a hefty price. Edinburgh is the centre of the medical universe and the city’s doctors are crying out for more cadavers for their educational lectures. First they try the infamous DR. MONRO, but he’s not interested, so they sell the corpse to DR. KNOX, his vain and ambitious rival who urges them to bring any more ‘unfortunates’ they may stumble upon.

Entrepreneurial Hare is quick to realize they’ve hit on a great money making venture and despite the more sensitive Burke’s misgivings, they embark on a series of plans to secure more bodies. They arrange a series of deadly ‘accidents’ for the local unfortunates and to celebrate their success, they go out on the town to celebrate. There, Burke meets GINNY, a beautiful and spirited aspiring actress.

Drive on by the promise of romance, Burke agrees to step up their operation; branching out into “ethical” murder. The professional rivalry between Knox and Munro is creating a very lucrative trade for the boys as Knox needs extra bodies for his groundbreaking photographic map of the human body. In a series of hilarious comic misadventures Burke and Hare begin to secure a steady stream of bodies and the cash starts rolling in.

With the authorities closing in, Hare promises Burke he’s got a new plan; they just need a bit more money and then they can go legit and open a funeral parlour.

The pressure builds when Knox is arrested after dissecting some well known locals and he immediately implicates Burke and Hare as his supplier of fresh corpses.

Burke and Hare sweat it out in the cells as a crowd gathers baying for bloody. In a wild, but romantic gesture, Burke volunteers to take the rap to save his friend and the love of his life, Ginny. As the hangman’s noose goes around his neck, our hero is smiling bravely and when asked for his final words, he pronounces “I did it for love.”

Colin Firth is in the running for A Single Man (check out the trailer), but one of his next films is the final screenplay from Pulitzer Prize and Academy Award®-winner Horton Foote. It is a luminous and timely tale of a down-and-out small town that receives a mysterious visitor – a stranger with a promise to turn things around and bring the town back to its former pride and glory.

Georgiana (Ellen Burstyn) is a stately tobacco heiress faced with a real estate problem; she has an empty warehouse on the town’s foundering Main Street. She rents the facility to the visitor, Texas businessman Gus Leroy (Colin Firth) – sight unseen and no questions asked – and she has no idea that his risky business will soon impact her friends and neighbors. From her niece Willa (Patricia Clarkson), to the local police officer (Orlando Bloom) and the girl he has his eye on (Amber Tamblyn), everyone in town begins to question the trucks arriving in the middle of the night unloading cargo into Georgiana’s warehouse.

When it is finally revealed that the material being stored is hazardous waste, there is an uproar. Leroy explains to the Mayor that several towns throughout the south are experiencing full economic recovery as a result of doing business with him, and the town must face the ultimate question – to do what is needed, or do what is right. The new business could enrich their economy, but put all its inhabitants in peril.

Based on the article “The Yankee Bandit: The Life and Times of Eddie Dodson, World’s Greatest Bank Robber”, written by Timothy Ford and published by GEAR Magazine, The Electric Slide tells the true story of suave hipster and celebrity-magnet Eddie Dodson (Ewan McGregor), who in 1980s Los Angeles owned and ran one of the city’s most stylish art deco furniture stores. Celebrities flocked to buy the latest pieces and Eddie was living the high life along with the Hollywood elite.

But when Eddie met cool and unimpressed Jenny (Carey Mulligan – An Education), he decided to do the most outrageous thing he could think of to win her attention – he robbed a bank. Eddie discovered in himself the uncanny ability to charm pretty bank tellers into emptying their drawers of cash and getting away with it. And Jenny discovered that a boyfriend who robbed banks was about as hot as it got.

Over a period of months, Eddie and Jenny robbed over 70 banks in the Los Angeles area, often narrowly escaping the increasingly frustrated FBI. When the authorities interviewed the tellers who had been robbed, each of the described Eddie “like a movie star, the most charming man they had ever met.” The media, jumping on the story, dubbed him “The Gentleman Bandit.” But Eddie’s criminal lucky streak would not last forever as the FBI closed in and angry loan sharks with unpaid debts threatened his life.

Apfelstrudel

Im Angebot sind, wie der Blick in die Werbebeilagen am Wochenende in der Sonntagszeitung und im Briefkasten zeigte,  hier  heute bzw diese Woche  Äpfel, 3kg Kiste 1,49 Euro. Sie

bekommen keine Werbebeilagen und wollen die auch nicht? Bookmarken Sie sich doch einfach ein paar geeignete Websites der Lebensmittelläden,  bei denen Sie gern einkaufen, sie haben inzwischen fast alle welche und manche, wie die  gennante Website sind  durchaus praktisch eingerichtet, weil Sie den nächsten Markt per PLZ finden und dort dann auch die Angebote anzeigen lassen können.

Während man früher für den Strudel bei uns sehr gern Boskop nahm, sind heute Elstar, Golden Delicious, Pink Lady, Cox Orange etc beliebter. Das Wochenangebot ist ideal für einen Strudeltag bei den Montagsgerichten aus der Serie der 1Euro-Rezepte. Von dieser Kiste werden für das folgende Rezept nur 2kg benötigt, so dass auch noch frische Äpfel für den Rest der Woche zum Naschen bleiben.

Die folgenden Rezeptangaben sind für 6 Personen bemessen:

Strudelteig:

375 g Mehl

1 nur sehr leicht gehäufter Tl Salz

3 El Öl oder flüssige Butter

knapp 1/4 l lauwarmes Wasser

Aus diesen Zutaten einen Teig herstellen, in Folie gehüllt mindestens 30 Minuten ruhen lassen.

Inzwischen die Füllung vorbereiten:

2 kg Äpfel

1 Tl Zimt

Saft einer halben Zitrone

Abrieb einer halben Zitrone

200 g Schmand

150 g Zucker (gern auch Rohrohrzucker)

100 g in Rum eingeweichte Rosinen

100 g flüssige Butter

1/4 l Milch zum Begiessen

etwas Butter zum Ausbuttern des  Bratreindls

Äpfel schälen, vierteln, entkernen und in Scheiben schneiden oder hobeln. (Wenn Sie’s wie ich machen wollen, wenn es gelegentlich schnell gehen soll: Äpfel schälen, mit dem Kernausstecher den Apfelbutzen ausstechen, Apfel halbieren und über den Hobel Scheibchen schnibbeln)

Sofort mit Zitrone, Zimtzucker, Zitronenabrieb, Rosinen vermischen, 10 Minuten ziehen lassen und dann den Schmand unterrühren.

Dann den Strudelteig portionsweise zu Strudelteigflächen für die Füllungen ausrollen und ziehen.  Diese dann auf bemehlter Fläche erst mit dem Nudelholz ausrollen und dann auf  frischem und leicht mit Mehl betäubtem  Linnen (Geschirrtuch zB)  noch ausrollen und dann über den Händen dehnen und ausziehen. Das geht am leichtesten, wenn man ihn über dem einen Handrücken gelegt und hängend mit der anderen Hand dreht, dehnt, und mit dem Handrücken dabei unter dem Teigstück auch mit dehnt, während die andere Hand ihn hält oder behutsam nach aussen zieht, bis er ohne zu reissen hauchdünn ist. Wie es so schön heisst: am besten ist er, wenn man durch den Teig die Zeitung lesen könnte.

Teig dann auf dem Tuch auslegen, mit der zerlassenen Butter bestreichen und die Fülle auf den Teig verteilen, dabei einen Rand von 3-5 cm lassen. Von den Seiten den Teigrand nach innen über die Füllung schlagen und dann mit Hilfe des Tuchs den Teig von sich her und weg aufrollen und ihn (notfalls mit Hilfe des Tuches) in das gebutterte Reindl gleiten lassen, dabei sollte der abschliessende Falz auf der Unterseite sein. Mit allen Teigportionen so verfahren. Dann mit der Milch begiessen und bei 200° im vorgeheizten Backofen goldbraun backen (dauert ca 40 Minuten). Zwischendurch noch mit dem etwaigen Rest der zerlassenen Butter auf der Oberseite bepinseln, das gibt eine knusprige Kruste.

Der Strudel wird heiss und mit Puderzucker bestäubt  serviert, schmeckt aber auch abgekühlt zB zum Tee oder Kaffee.

Zur Adventszeit mag ich es auch gern, die Äpfel nach dem Schälen und hobeln mit der Zitrone, etwas Vanille und einer kleinen (!) Prise Lebkuchen- oder Bratapfelgewürzen  in einem Topf kurz anzudünsten, die Mischung dann in eine Schüssel zu geben, mit den Rumrosinen und gehackten oder gehobelten und in unbeschichteter Pfanne gebräunten Mandeln zu mischen und nachdem die Äpfel heruntergekühlt sind, mit dem Zimtzucker und dem Schmand zu vermengen oder ein bis zwei El der Apfelmischung anstelle von Vanillesauce zu den Strudel zu servieren und gebräunte Mandeln, Zimtzucker und einen Klecks des Schmands dazu zu garnieren.

Wird er als Mehlspeise wie heute bei den Montagsgerichten serviert, schmeckt eine Vanillesauce gut dazu. Sie können diese natürlich mit einer handelsüblichen Packung  (Dessert-Soße Vanille-Geschmack zum Kochenvon Dr. Oetker zB ) zubereiten. Persönlich mag ich dabei nur die zum Kochen, kalt angerührte Vanillesauce ist nichts für mich. Sie können aber natürlich auch mal selbst eine solche ausprobieren, was jetzt in der Adventszeit gut passt, wenn Sie zum Plätzchenbacken oder zum Backen von Makronen ohnehin gut Eiweiss gebrauchen können:

Vanillesauce selbstgemacht:

6 Eigelb, 100 g Zucker, Mark einer Vanilleschote (oder Msp. Vanillemark aus dem Glas), 1/2 Liter Milch.

Eigelb im Wasserbad mit dem Zucker dick und heiss und hellgelb schlagen.

Inzwischen in einem hohem Topf Milch mit der Vanille einmal aufkochen lassen, dann bei reduzierter Hitze  5- 10 Minuten ziehen lassen, während Sie die Eizuckermasse im Wasserbad schlagen, NICHT kochen. Dann nach und nach die Vanillemilch unter Rühren unter die Ei-Zucker-Masse mischen, die Gesamtmischung in den Topf zurückgiessen und bei mittlerer Hitze noch einmal unter Rühren “wallen” (nicht kochen, weil sonst das Ei ausflockt) lassen. Man nennt das auch sie zur Rose zu ziehen. Der Ausdruck rührt daher: Taucht man einen Esslöffel in die Sauce und bläst dann behutsam über dis Sauce auf dem Löffelrücken, so entsteht ein Muster wie von Rosenblütenblättern.

Rezeptvarianten und Tips:

Sie mögen keinen süssen Strudel ?Kein Problem, blättern Sie mal in den Angeboten – im oben erwähnten Markt sind aktuell auch Wirsing zum kg-Preis von 0,59 Euro oder Lauchzwiebeln zum Bundpreis von 0,39 Euro  zu bekommen. Lauch/Porree ist zudem als weitere Variante fast jede Woche günstig zu bekommen. Wirsing und Lauch sollte vor dem Verwenden als Füllung blanchiert und dann in Streifen geschnitten werden. Wirksing kann man auch hobeln. Bei Wirsing nehme ich die äusseren grösseren Blätter gern auch, um daraus Krautwickerl zuzubereiten, die man wie mit Weisskraut herstellt. Für die Strudelfüllung werden dann die inneren Blätter des Wirsings verwendet und nur ein paar dunklere der äusseren darunter gemischt.

Diese Gemüse kann man mit dem Schmand, etwas geriebenem Käse (ca 150 g), mit ein wenig Semmelbröseln (1-2 El)  und für Nichtvegetarier mit Wurst- oder Bratenresten, die montags vom Wochenende noch vorhanden sind oder etwas Hack oder Speck, Salz, Pfeffer, Prise Cayenne und Muskat nach persönlichem Gusto als Strudelfüllung verwenden. Anstelle der Milch verwenden Sie Brühe.

Auch sehr gut schmeckt die Kombination von Lachs (TK-Ware, aufgetaut, in Stücke zerteilt) mit den genannten Gemüsen.

Tip für Zitronensaft:

Nervt SIE das auch so: Sie kaufen ein Netzerl Zitronen und bereits anderntags ist garantiert die erste von Schimmel befallen? Bissl Schwund ist immer? Muss in dem Fall nicht sein: Ich habe mir angewöhnt, Zitronen bereits direkt nach dem Einkauf mit der Zitruspresse auszupressen und den Saft in Gefriertüten für Eiswürfel einzufüllen und ins TK-Fach zu geben. Ein kleiner Filter ist dabei nützlich, wenn man nur seine eigenen 2 Hände hat, aber sonst unkompliziert. Bei Bedarf wird einfach ein Zitruswürfel entnommen für die Kanne schwarzenTees, für Salatdressing, für Obstsalat, als Zutat zum Backen, Glasieren etc. Der Zitronensaftwürfel ist binnen kurzem aufgetaut und ohne Geschmacksveränderung nach dem Fristen nutzbar. Eiswürfelbehälter geht auch, sollte aber abgedeckt werden (Folie).
