I’m sitting in the living room of a house [my parent's house] with my mother and Gerry. Someone’s in the kitchen…doing dishes, I think. My mother is sitting in a blue chair sipping tea. [I have two of these chairs in my home]

[the dream jumps]

The house is packed up and empty. Some furniture, including the blue chair are in what used to be Mom’s room, which is next to the living room. Gerry and I are about to move. I realize that we’ll need to pull out some furniture for her to have, including the blue chair. Gerry and I have yet to determine where we’re going to go.

I tell Gerry that I know what we can do…we can pull out maps from all over the place and energy test where it would be best for us to to. While gathering the maps, I realize where we can go…Durango, Colorado.

[the dream jumps]

We are driving through the countryside on our way to visit Durango. I’m doing my best to see this area as it really is rather than through rose-colored glasses which is what I usually do when I’m excited about a new idea/location. I see that the landscape is okay (reality)…I had imagined it would be spectacular (rose-colored reality).

[the dream jumps]

We are walking up into Durango. It’s a beautiful, sunny day. People are milling about as if waiting for a parade to happen. A young woman dressed in cowgirl attire (from hat to boots) is playing guitar and singing a country-western song. To my dismay I realize that this is a country-western town, and most likely a ‘red’ city.

[the dream jumps]

We walk into this old movie house which is being renovated. The theater area and the screen are small with about 25 seats. People are in here watching a silent movie. It could be a movie with the sound off, because I hear nothing and see subtitles on the screen. A small group of women are talking amongst themselves.

We sit behind a man who turns to us and tells us how they show movies but SOME people tend to talk through the whole thing…glancing over at the talking women.

We watch the movie for a bit and then it ends. A woman comes through the screen…a large slit that disappears after you go through it. This woman was in the movie. She’s the executive director of the theater. She’s wearing a large, flamboyant-styled hat and flamboyant clothes. She proceeds to give us a tour. I ask about the renovation to which she replies that it’s getting a new coat of paint. Looking around, it looks like more than a paint job. However they are at the stage where everything has been sanded and primed, ready for paint. As we follow her, she slips and falls flat on her face. She gets up as if nothing happened and continues to talk and lead us downstairs. At the end the steps become stacked wobbly tables with cushions on them. It’s very dangerous…someone could easily misstep and fall. We help each other down these last few steps.

[the dream jumps]

We are walking down the main street of Durango and come up to movie theater up on our right. It has floor-to-ceiling glass windows. Brown paper is taped up behind the glass to prevent anyone from seeing what’s behind the glass. In front of the glass, in the corners of each pane are ornate wrought-iron pieces attached to the glass. They have a very Victorian look to them. As we approach we see in the entry way wall of ornate glass on the right has window openings where we can buy tickets. While the place looks like its closed, some people are on line to buy tickets and it appears that two or three windows are open for business. I fail to recognize any of the movies listed. Gerry asks if there are any movies starting just before 5:30 pm. Without asking, he purchases tickets. A young man, who looks a lot like Jude Law, dressed as a usher is hold a long narrow box (something like what you would use to deliver a dozen roses in). In the box are blank papers the size/shape of the box. Without say a word and with a big smile on his face, he offer up the box as if to encourage us to take a piece of paper. He holds the box as if he’s holding a bouquet of roses. I’m somewhat disappointed about going to a movie…I was hope to explore the town some more.

[the dream jumps]

We are in a car. I think Gerry is driving. We’re stuck on an on-ramp. We’re waiting to merge into the traffic on the right. A line of about 4 or 5 cars ahead of us are doing the same thing. The cars on the highway that we’re waiting to get on are driving quite fast. I’m frustrated with how long this is going to take. Slowly, 1 by 1, we inch forward as each car ahead of us merges into the highway. It bothers me that Durango has a traffic problem. 1 for the minus column.

[the dream jumps]

We are riding in a small power boat…again I think Gerry is driving. We’re going so fast over the water that I’m slipping off the back of the boat. I manage to secure myself. We slow down a bit and start to look around. This area is beautiful. I didn’t realize that there was a lake in Durango. The water is crystal clear blue and the architecture all around the shore and in the water is beautiful. Gerry calls it Byzantine. We see an old wooden carousel that looks like it’s from the 20’s or 30’s and then another one made of stone that’s even older.

Throughout this entire dream I have had this feeling that someone else is hanging out with us, an older woman. She feels like my Aunt Eileen. I’m clueless as to why she’s with us. For now it seems as if she’s tagging along for the ride. At this point in the dream, while on this boat, it’s more obvious to me that she’s with us.

We continue to ride along the water. The water is so clear we can see architectural structures and objects under the water. It’s all beautiful. Through some trees I see another waterway, a river. While the water we’re in seems more man-made, the river is natural, nature-made.

[the dream jumps]

We’re in a restaurant with views of the water we were just in. I seems to be buffet style. We (Gerry, Aunt Eileen, and I) are in line gathering our plates and utensils when I ask Gerry “so when do we go back?” (ie…when do we leave Durango). He replies “I wondered when you were going to ask me that.” I know we are here for a visit, to check out it out. Gerry booked the trip, he made all the arrangements. Apparently I also am just along for the ride without realizing how long we plan to be here…a couple of days, a week, more?

I’m thinking or I say out loud that if Durango doesn’t appeal to us we can always to visit my good friend Vivian in Colorado Springs, which is about 3 hours away.

In Conclusion

Let me start out by stating that this is the second time I have had a dream about moving to Durango. It escapes me as to when I had the first dream. It’s about a year ago…maybe longer. I remember back then doing a bunch a research on Durango thinking that a move there might be doable; then I forgot all about it. I guess the timing was off. What’s the significance of dreaming about it again?

I visited Durango about 25 years ago when I was in a top-40 band that traveled the hotel circuit. My soon-to-be ex-husband was the leader of the band. We were separated at the time. For me this tour was about one last chance to do something like this. The trip ended up confirming to me that my decision to divorce him was correct!

Anyway, we had a day off from playing in Farmington New Mexico and took a day trip up to Durango. It was summertime I think; I remember it being warm. I remember seeing an old steam locomotive/train and then going up a sky lift to ride down on a large slide. I think they use it for luge practice. We had a blast. I had forgotten about that trip up until I had the first Durango dream.

Okay so back to this dream. Wow…a lot is happening here and I think it’s going to take me awhile to interpret it. Several references to ‘waiting’ around. The movie theaters are interesting…they usually represent illusions. My mom sitting on one of my blue chairs is curious. As I stated earlier we have two blue chairs. One of the chairs is designated as my chair. If Gerry is sitting in it because I’ve been out of the room or the house, I make him move when I come into the room, which sounds kind of mean now that I’m writing this down.

When I woke from this dream and “Durango” was swimming in my head, I kept feeling like “Durango” was an anagram. When I re-arranged the letters, the word “aground” appeared. I looked the word up at www.thefreedictionary.com/aground . What immediate jumped out at me was the thesaurus adj definition:

“stuck in a place where a ship can no longer float; “a ship aground offshore”; “a boat aground on the beach waiting for the tide to lift it”

Very Interesting! Is this what Durango means for me? a place where I’m left waiting for the tide to lift it? It’s interesting that the dream had several “waiting” references and then to read the “waiting” in the definition. This is fascinating. I want to explore this some more.

ASTROLOGY ALERT: If you are a disbeliever of astrology you may want to skip this next part.

Just for the heck of it I looked up when Durango was incorporated. I found the date listed with the state of Colorado: 4/27/1881.

I put this info into my astrology program. Without a time provided, I used noon as the ‘time of birth.’ Very interesting chart! Six planets are in Taurus (Sun, Pluto, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, and Venus) with the Moon and Mercury in Aries next door. Putting this chart up next to mine, all the Taurus planets (except Pluto) and the Moon are in my 8th house opposing all my planets in the 2nd house (Sun, Saturn and Neptune). Yikes!

According to Donna Cunningham’s blog on houses in her Saturn-Pluto Kit, the 8th house is about “sexuality, money you don’t earn (inheritances, grants, etc), taxes, partner’s resources, birth, death, transformation, healing” while the 2nd house is about “money and ways of earning it, money management and attitudes toward finance, things valued more than money.”

My initial feeling is that a move to Durango would either be a financial disaster or a financial breakthrough.

I’ll have to investigate this further…since that’s what Scorpios do best

Anyway…I’ll have to come back to this dream later.

There is an up and coming rising star in the exciting world of ultimate power boats and they call themselves Statement Marine.

They have 2 fantastic models on their books, however their latest creation is called the “Statement 42 V-Bottom”, the clue is in the name because this boat certainly is here to make a statement and give any owner a ride very few production boats can match.

This boat is not for the faint hearted and is an outright mind blowing thoroughbred. The owners behind Statement Marine have smashed onto the scene with one of the fastest offshore V-bottoms on the market, add a luxurious interior and a revolutionary suspension cockpit, with one of the best graphics paint jobs around and you have yourself a winning formula.

The fundamental question facing the Statement 42 V-bottom is it could live up to the hype on the water. Powerboat test drivers Bob Teague and John Tomlinson got the first opportunity to test the new model, which was fitted with twin Mercury Racing HP1075SCi engines. Both were impressed with the 42’s handling characteristics, build quality and above all performance, the V-stepped-bottom boat cut through 3-foot swells easily and aggressively. This is testament to Statement Marine whose staff is made up from former offshore power boat racers who know how to set up a boat for handling and performance.

The Statement 42 has a revolutionary cockpit set up to ensure passengers comfort during what’s sure to be a memorable ride. The entire cockpit is suspended on large air bags, which act as a shock absorber, and the firmness can be adjusted to the owner’s personal preference. Statement also provided lap belts in the bucket seats to keep passengers firmly planted which you can understand when you see the figures behind this boats performance. With the correct set up the Statement 42 will hit 62mph in under 20 seconds and if your feeling brave she will push on to 130mph at 6000 revs.

The test driver Tomlinson said the 42 Ultimate ran straight and was impervious to wind gusts. While running a boat at these types of speeds should never be taken lightly, Tomlinson said the boat felt like it was going 30 mph slower than its actual speed. Credit has to go to the air-cushioned cockpit that reduces the hard hits and vibrations normally felt in V-bottoms.

Statement will fully customise the 42 V-bottom to an owners personal specification, the Statement we reviewed here had been fitted out in red tanned leather with pleated buckets and velour covering the dash. All the instrumentation was electronic no analog in site with navigation systems coming in the form of Northstar 6100i screens in both dashes along with a Mercury SmartCraft system view monitor that raised up from the top of the drivers dash to starboard.

What is a very nice touch and something you may not expect from such a hard-nosed power boat is the accommodation below, a plush cabin with facing lounges and horseshoe-shape seating in the bow. Indirect lighting behind valances and near the floor give the cabin a cosy and comfortable feel, dont be fooled into thinking its a weekender oh no, its just a place to chill once you had your head blasted at 100+ mph.

Attention to detail oozes from the Statement 42 V-bottom in its build quality and is reflected in its price, don’t expect much change from a million at $890,000 the Statement is a high end market product. However in its defence you won’t find many other boats that can match the Statement 42 V bottom for its performance, handling and build quality add the fantastic design and innovation and you have the complete package.

August 2009 – Long Tail boat races are held regularly in the Thai provinces, many owners and teams travel to compete in the competitions – the winnings are status and a trophy and a prize money that just above covers the cost of the fuel and transport.

Many of the competitors are owners/workers of the small engineering shops scattered around the provinces that maintain, fabricate and repair farming equipment. Success at the boat races brings more custom to the shop and the prestige of having a successful race team.

The fastest speed recorded while I was at the race was 165 kmh or 102 mph and was confirmed by radar gun.

I only saw one dipping when a boat shattered a prop at full speed which caused the pilot to do a spectacular cartwheel along the water surface with the remains of the prop missing his forehead by inches as the boat continued on its way – lucky escape!

Birchwood, a name that has been around for sometime in the UK and many will associate the Birchwood sports cruiser ranges with the aft cabin design which feature in many of there TS versions.

Here we have the Birchwood 390, a sleek modern design from Birchwood, shredding the past heavy waste line design in favour for a more agile, sporty look.

The 390 has everything you would expect from a modern sports boat but has it got what it takes to play with the big boys in this market?

Birchwood havent experienced the success of Sunseeker or Princess of past but with designs such as the 390 and clever targeting Birchwood could starting making headway once again.

The quality aspect of the interiors good quality with a nice fit and finish, there are various options to individualise your birchwood from interior fabrics to wood finish.

Higher fuel prices are taking a bigger bite out of everyone’s boating budget. Grousing won’t help, b

Higher fuel prices are taking a bigger bite out of everyone’s boating budget. Grousing won’t help, but here are some take-control measures that will lower your fuel consumption and measurably reduce the cost of every single outing.

Keep the bottom clean. A fouled bottom has about the same effect on fuel consumption as towing a room-sized carpet. Moored and slipped boats in salt water require the protection of fresh antifouling paint. Be careful about leaving your normally dry-stored boat in the water for more than a few days as drag producing fouling occurs in an astonishingly short time on an unprotected hull. Keep your running gear free of barnacles.

Tune your engine. Gasoline engines deliver their best economy and their best performance only when they are in good tune. Diesel engines are less tune-sensitive, but having the injectors serviced and cleaning or replacing the air filter is likely to boost fuel economy. Changing engine oil every 100 hours increases fuel economy as well as engine life.

Drive smart. Handle throttles smoothly, applying only as much power as circumstances require. Don’t be too tentative—getting up on plane quickly actually saves fuel—but pushing the throttle control to the stop almost certainly wastes fuel. Learn to cruise at your boat’s most economical speed.

Don’t push water. Proper trim is essential to good fuel economy. Plowing, kiting and porpoising all result in higher fuel consumption. If your boat does not trim properly, invest in trim tabs. Outboard-powered boats can benefit from bolt-on hydrofoils.

Check your prop. Unless the blades are perfectly true, the prop will fail to provide maximum thrust. Blades with nicks and dings create power-robbing turbulence. Have the prop reconditioned. Make a test run with your boat loaded the way you use it to be sure the fitted prop doesn’t allow your engine to exceed the recommended wide open throttle (WOT) rpm. From the perspective of fuel economy, a bit too much pitch is usually preferable to a bit too little. If you need to change props, consider a cupped or a four blade wheel for more efficient mid-range performance.

Lighten the boat. Hauling around stuff that doesn’t need to be aboard burns extra fuel, so do some earnest housecleaning. Take aboard only enough fuel to provide a comfortable margin of safety for your planned outing, not as much fuel as the boat can carry. This not only lightens the boat and improves fuel economy, but your engine benefits from a steady diet of fresh fuel. You will also get better mileage with lighter fishing buddies, but maybe that is over the top.

Install a fuel flow meter. A flow meter tells you in real time exactly how much fuel your engine is consuming. This information allows you to accurately adjust both throttles and trim for maximum economy even as wind and sea conditions change. A flow meter also keeps up with total fuel consumed and it has the added value of providing early warning of developing engine and running gear problems or fouling.

Repower. When it comes time to repower, oil supply realities make it prudent to pay attention to the fuel efficiency of the motors you are considering. Do not underpower; a too-small engine works harder and burns more fuel. 4-stroke outboards are generally more economical, but direct-injection combined with lighter weight keeps the current generation of 2-stroke engines competitive.

Buy a sailboat. The wind is free.

How many hours should it take to drive 80 miles? 1.5? 2? On Sat., we left here at 10:30am…arr

How many hours should it take to drive 80 miles? 1.5? 2? On Sat., we left here at 10:30am…arrived in St. Michael’s, MD at 5pm. We had to bail off off Route 50 in Annapolis due to an unexplained 10 miles back up to the Bay Bridge. Today, we left at 2:30 and got home at 5pm. WHYWHYWHY. Such a short trip, in miles at least. Grumble. Btw, they filmed parts of Wedding Crashers in St. Michael’s…the awesome house on the water is the Inn at Perry Cabin (we didn’t stay there – goes against everything the Frug aka Brad believes in)

However, all was not lost. Saw a not-so-rare species I was planning on calling ‘Old Whores by the Sea’. Which then became Sea Hag. Ugly term, no?! Sadly, Sea Hag is already in the Urban Dictionary with lots of fun meanings. Here’s my fav:

An older, skinny, ugly, woman that has scraggly hair, that drinks too much alcohol.

“Dang, did you see that nasty sea hag”

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=sea+hag

We saw many of them in Annapolis. On loud power boats, wearing neon bathing suits (displaying back fat), very tan, with a Bud and a ciggy. Hacking cough. Having lots of loud fun though. Adding “Becoming a Sea Hag” to my List of Worries.

Had someone once call me a ‘power boat’ kind of person. Didn’t mean it kindly either! I think he actually meant that he could see me becoming a Sea Hag! aahh Thank God I am not a smoker…at least I have that going for me!

Was a very seafood weekend…crab cake for lunch, steamed crabs for dinner, steamed spiced shrimp for lunch today. YUM. Still haven’t figured out how shellfish has almost no fat and yet boatloads of cholesterol? I guess getting french fries w/ my low fat shellfish sort of negates the low fat part. sigh. And the wine is bad too? Double sigh. Double chin.

Humidity killed my hair. And they had whatever ‘bad water’ that makes my hair all stiff and big to start with. grumble. So, bad hair weekend. Had to restrain it in the ponytail for most of the weekend. Punishment for being BIG! LOL

More later…
