Power Metal adalah sebuah band heavy metal, dibentuk di Surabaya, Indonesia pada bulan September 1987. Grup band yang awal berdirinya bernama Power, sejak September 1987 berubah nama jadi Power Metal, dengan formasi Pungky Deaz (vokal), Ipunk (gitar), Hendrix Sanada (bas), Raymond Ariasz (kibor), dan Mugix Adam (dram). Sesuai namanya Power Metal, perubahan nama ini sekaligus untuk memproklamirkan diri jadi band rock beraliran heavy metal. Sebelum menjelajahi dunia rekaman, dalam aksi panggungnya grup ini sering membawakan lagu-lagunya Metallica, Anthrax, Helloween, Loudness atau Yngwie J. Malmsteen. Power Metal beberapa kali menjuarai festival-festival rock di Indonesia sejak tahun 1987.  Mereka juga pernah mendampingi Sepultura (1992) dan Helloween (2004) saat kedua kelompok band fenomenal itu manggung di Surabaya. Толкова дълго чаках някакво развитие при Rhapsody, че съвсем ги бях отписала. Просто приех, че оттук нататък ще си слушам досегашните албуми, че няма да отида на техен корцерт, че легендата е намерила своя заслужен, донакъде щастлив и доста неочакван край.

Преди просто профилактично влизах в сайта им веднъж седмично, глождена от някаква малка надеждичка. И това спрях да правя – забравих, че чакам.

Е, била съм доста глупава.

Три ужаса:

1. Не разбрах аз първа, а брат ми просто между другото ми го каза, все едно нищо не се е случило…. (изменник на царството на омагьосаните земи).
2. Не разбрах кога точно се е случило събитието, за да си запиша този ден и да го чествам оттук нататък
3. Държанието ми и в онзи момент на исконната истина, и в сегашния момент на сърцераздирателно споделяне на чувства, наподобява държанието на писклива тийнейджърка изпаднала в пълна еуфория от излизането на новия СМРАЧ филм

(Един ритуален танц с мечове във възхвала на смелите герои щеше да бъде по подходящ израз на щастие)

И ето, колко писане, а не съм го казала още. Е сега е сюблимният момент на истината:

Завърнаха се. Следват n на брой букви, изразяващи нечленоразделен брътвеж, който по-добре да спестя. Дълбока глътка въздух. Ок.. добре съм вече.

От описанието в сайта им, леко наподобяващо литературен анализ върху Вазов, се разбира, че не отстъпват фронта на епичната, разтърсваща метъл музика. Явно няма да експериментират с нещо коренно различно, което е по-скоро добре. Rhapsody of fire са единствената група, която просто не искам да променя музиката и стила си. Никога няма да ми омръзнат такива, каквито са сега, и каквито очаквам да бъдат с излизането на новия си албум.

2003. 6 Jahre höre ich diese Band schon. Sie hat meine Anfänge in Metal und Musik im Allgemeinen bestimmt. Tatsächlich hörte und höre ich nicht sonderlich viel Power Metal, zu gleich klingt alles. Vor allem die Sänger könnte ich nicht von einander unterschieden. Nicht so bei Sonata Arctica. Man erkennt Tony Kakko sofort.

Sie haben sich, seitdem ich sie zum ersten Mal wahrgenommen habe, durchaus verändert. Anfangs waren da noch diese extrem schnellen Lieder mit Gitarrenfrickelpassagen. Diese sind ziemlich genau zu “Reckoning Night” wieder verschwunden und alles verschob sich eher in die orchestrale, sinfonische Richtung. Das Album ist für mich auch immernoch das Schlechteste ihrer Diskografie. Die Band hat nicht nur mich beeinflusst, sondern auch meine Mutter. Es war nicht nur ein grober Einstieg in Metal im Allgemeinen, es ist zu ihrer Lieblingsband geworden. Mittlerweile erkenne ich ihr Auto schon allein daran, dass das Logo auf der Rückscheibe prangt.

Und nach all der Zeit kam also die “The Days Of Grays” heraus. Anfangs klang das für mich nicht wesentlich anders als all die anderen Alben, die nach “Winterhearts Guild” kamen. Die Scheibe wurde ein paar Wochen auf Eis gelegt, doch versuchte ich mich dann doch irgendwann dran. Und sie war gewachsen. Mit jedem Durchlauf wuchs sie mehr. Heute ist sie meine erste Wahl, wenn ich mich nicht für Musik entscheiden kann. Die Stärken liegen wie im Genre üblich vor allem bei den Refrains und diese sind in jedem Song eine Klasse für sich. Es macht für mich keinen Sinn die Songs durchzugehen, denn nur wenig sind sonderlich anders, als dass was man von Sonata Arctica erwarten würde. Ein wenig heraus sticht höchstens “Zeroes”, der für die Band eher ungewöhnlich strukturiert ist, sowie “Breathing”, der sich ziemlich gleichmäßig und baladesque gibt.  Auch finde ich persönlich den einleitenden Track “Deathaura” etwas lahm. Das ist aber auch der Einzige. Zur eigentlichen CD gibt es noch eine Bonus-CD mit einigen Lieder in einer rein orchestralen Variante. Die ist eher als eine nette Dreingabe zu sehen, zu kraftlos wirkt das ganze. Ich bin mir ziemlich sicher, dass die CD irgendeine Geschichte erzählt oder zumindest Abrisse daraus. Es scheint irgendeinem Konzept zu folgen, rund um die namensgebenden “Grays”, aber ich komme nicht ganz dahinter was. Manchmal klingt es nach Werwölfen. Vielleicht kriege ich es auch mal heraus.

Meine persönlichen Favoriten, so schwierig die Wahl auch fällt, wären “The Last Amazing Grays”, “As If The World Wasn’t Ending” und “In The Dark”

What was I thinking ?!?!?! Never judge an album by its cover because then you miss out on some great music! That’s a lesson I’ve learned quite well with Riot. Despite reading for years that they were a great American NWOBHM-style band, I never bothered picking any release up. The main reason? Those awful album covers. I can’t think of any other band that has had so much terrible cover art. It really put me off and had me thinking these guys were cheap, cheesy metal that was not worth my time. How wrong I’ve been proven with Fire Down Under and now Thundersteel!

Out of the two Riot releases I’ve heard so far, Thundersteel is definitely my favorite. Fire Down Under saw the band in fully entrenched in New Wave of British Heavy Metal coming off like Diamond Head, but Thundersteel has a blend of NWOBHM, power metal and a more traditional ’80s metal sound that brings to mind Helloween, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest.

This was Riot’s “comeback” album after not having released any music since 1983’s Born In America. The band has continued to released albums every few years, but it’s a real shame this one wasn’t a huge success for them and that this band and album are fully appreciated like they should be.

While I had no problems with Guy Speranza on vocals, I much prefer Tony (his first album with the band), but I think each one was perfect for the type of metal the band was playing at the time. Tony has greater range though and that shows on “Run for Your Life”, which is actually my favorite song on the album. It sounds like the band was going for a Judas Priest vibe, right down to Moore’s vocals and the song would fit in well on Ram It Down.

A definite classic metal album well worth any headbanger’s time.

El domingo 22 de noviembre fue el décimo aniversario de la publicación del álbum de debut de la banda finlandesa Sonata Arctica. Ecliptica es un disco de power metal bastante típico pero de mucha calidad, con claras influencias del grupo Stratovarius. Aunque con el paso de los años, los miembros de la banda han sido capaces de superar ampliamente lo ofrecido en este trabajo, es un álbum muy a tener en cuenta ya que supuso uno de los mejores debuts dentro de este género musical. Normalmente los nuevos conjuntos necesitan de un par de publicaciones para alcanzar un nivel realmente bueno, pero Sonata Arctica ya dejó el listón bastante alto en el año 1999 con Ecliptica, y lo importante es que han ido progresando, llegando a componer obras sobresalientes como Unia (del año 2007) o el último The Days Of Grays (a la venta desde hace unos pocos meses).

Recordemos brevemente como era el sonido de esta banda en sus inicios:

Well, it surely is a hot candidate… !

By the way… I might be working on a different version of this PV soon. If some of the band members coincidentally read this (who knows, everything is possible) I would be glad to get a “go” on this… it is just for this blog, a pure fan project (and at the same time promotion for you guys).

It is just the fact that I rather dislike most of the metal-videos (who are rare anyways) out there… well, this PV is one of the better ones – but only regarding the topic. Which is, what a surprise… the band performing. It has a special look, no doubt… and the moves are just SICK (by this I mean great). I totally adore this song, ans especially the instrumental part from #3.06… Boom ! Just look at the guitarrist and the other guy “flying” in with the keyboard… !!!

But there has been one thing I always wished for… for a band to 1. produce a great, great PowerMetal song and 2. to produce a video, and 3. to produce a really fantastic video. Unfortunately, most of the better and a little “epic” metal music videos are rather coming from well known bands who are not really playing a pure PowerMetal, but rather female-voice metal with orchestral stuff (like Nightwish) – or are just a little too brutal in terms of the music (you know, the harsh stuff).

So let us see… for now: great band, great song, great abilities and moves… would love to see them live (or at least get the album somewhere)… ! /m\

I searched online for Myanmar metal stuff last night and found a forum. With great expectations, I clicked on the link.

What I found?

They were talking about… nu-metal??? Yes, nu-metal. Frigging hell mallcore stuff like Slipknot and Marilyn Manson. There were even people who mentioned Linkin Park and Flyleaf.

Seriously! There was nothing on it but mallcore. -.-

Next one was a blog. He was talking about Slipknot and how much he likes them and on another blog was an article on Myanmar metal scene and the author was talking about Bullet For My Valentine, Avenged Sevenfold and Trivium. Frigging Metalcore.

Why can’t they just get out of this whole mallcore thing??? Why won’t they step deeper into the depths? WHY?????

There were even some people who said,”Slipknot is Death Metal”. Ya, go die. It pisses me off when I hear people saying crap like that.

Mallcore, Nu-metal, Metalcore, BFMV, A7X, Marilyn Manson, BMTH, blah blah blah and it goes on and on and on in a never finishing mallcore whirlpool. This is what’s happening  in Myanmar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Metal albums aren’t that rare anymore. You can pretty much buy them here. (Last week I got Black Sabbath:The Dio Years and Megadeth’s Endgame.) Or you can download them via Mediafire or 4shared (which I usually do).

Still people are still drowning in the mallcore whirlpool… labeling themselves “metalheads” with Slipknot songs in their mp3 players.

Days of Purgatory is a compilation featuring many songs from Iced Earth’s early career that were re-recorded in order to have definitive versions featuring Matthew Barlow on vocals (who joined in 1994).

It was the very first Iced Earth album I ever purchased and I did it because it was recommended to me as a starting point for the band. Iced Earth was a name I kept coming across online as a great metal band and I wanted to sample them. Despite this album’s purpose to be showcase for Barlow’s vocals, it’s his vocals that have deterred me from ever becoming an Iced Earth fan. I just don’t like his sound.

I bought this album in either December ‘98 or ‘99 and I remember listening to it with a friend and we both remarked how some of the music was really cool (“Angels Holocaust” especially) but the vocals were holding it back. Truth be told, looking back, even some of the music isn’t up to snuff for me but there are a few great thrash moments.

I’ve always loved the cover though. It features the comic book character and vampire goddess Purgatori with art provided by the late Steven Hughes.

A two-disc edition was released at the same time. Too bad I didn’t know anything about it when I bought this one disc version!
