I dag startet jeg på skolen og var i litt dårlig humør, men det forandret seg veldig da jeg fikk se hvilken karakter jeg fikk på mitt engelskforedrag om temaet “slave trade”. EN FEM PLUSS! HURRA! Jeg ble så glad. Da jeg sto der framme (foran klassen), så var jeg så nervøs at jeg trodde jeg skulle dø. Det gikk jo tydeligvis veldig bra, selv om jeg glemte litt av innholdet og bare måtte improvisere. Faktisk, så var det nettopp dette som gjorde at jeg fikk pluss. Kult! Kommentarene jeg fikk var:

• Fin powerpoint m/gode bilder
• Gode ord
• Masse god og tydelig informasjon
• Meget sterk

Det var et punkt til også, men jeg klarer ikke helt tyde hva hun har skrevet der. Nuvel. Jeg er i ekstrase, og ikke minst; veldig fornøyd med meg selv. Bare se hvor glad jeg er (bildet er tatt i 8.klasse, men det får gå)..

PS: For dere som er interessert i å se flere merkeklær/ting jeg har fått, så følg med litt senere i løpet av dagen. Skal prøve å få lagt ut noen bilder da. Scared of Presentations?

5 Easy Steps Towards Better Presentation Skills

Everyone has heard the urban legend that states “more people are afraid of public speaking, than death.”

Tirelessly, I looked for some data along these lines, but I was unable to find any such figures; however, I dug up an article in the Archives of General Psychology that claimed that one in three respondents reported “excessive anxiety” when they spoke to “large audiences. This study, conducted by three doctors with impressive acronyms, also reported that the onset of this fear appeared in half of the study by 13 years of age and that 90 percent of the study were shaking at the podium by the age of 20.

I thought I’d do my part to relieve this anxiety by making presentations a little easier with these personal tips. These tips were loosely – honestly, the loosest of loose – based on George Mason University’s The Short Guide To Effective Presentations.

So here is the skinny.

1. Know your mission: Determine your purpose by establishing what you want your audience to know and how you would like them to act on this knowledge.

2. Establish your target: (target audience that is) Analyze your audience and tailor your message according to their age, general education level, knowledge about your topic and attitude toward the topic.

3. Gather intelligence: Gather enough information to write an effective presentation, then adjust the information as to avoid overwhelming the audience with too much information. Remember, It’s better to recall all of some, than none of all.

4. Operational Pictures: Add interest with relevant images. Never add a photo that doesn’t add to the message or embody the emphasis of the topic. Only use charts, graphs or illustrations if they are simple enough to understand and increase the audience’s understanding.

5. Train: Practice, practice, practice and then? Practice! Ideally, research your topic until you feel like an expert. When you feel comfortable with the content, run through the presentation. Preferably, practice out loud with your visuals. If at all possible, record your practice and make notes about: eye contact, movements, uses of gestures, tone, enthusiasm, pace and voice projection.

Quicksprout blogger, Neil Pate, points out that this recorded practice run can be a great tool to catch errors because “You usually don’t notice when you say ‘uhm’, ‘ah’, or any other useless word frequently, but the audience does. It gets quite irritating.” Pate also recommends that you “Show some movement – People are more engaged with an animated speaker.”

A quick word on the visuals – I’ve never fancied myself as a great writer, but I’m a solid writer. More importantly, I’m good with visuals and drawing interest. I’m not saying that visuals will carry your presentation, but visuals can garner attention and carry interest through your content. For expert advice on your visual layout and slides, most specifically for PowerPoint and Keynote, I recommend that you check out Presentation Zen.

The visual rule of thumb is to keep it simple. Pate warns, “Whatever your visuals may be, keep them simple and don’t put too many words on them. The audience isn’t there to read your slides, they are there to listen to you present.”

If you need more insight, this You Tube video provides comical parody into the problems associated with, in this instance, PowerPoint presentations and zealous naivety.

–Celebrity cook and Food Network star Paula Deen, who was hit in the face by a ham today while volunteering at an Atlanta food drive. Deen, who was helping to unload 25,000 pounds of meat donated to a local food bank, was the honored guest at a recent “Fortune Most Powerful Women Evening With…” dinner in Atlanta, where she told the guests, “Ladies, I have got a revelation: Eat the cookies. Bernardo Hernández es el Director Mundial de Marketing de Productos de Google e hizo, como dije una gran ponencia, aunque buscando, encontré su ponencia en power point con fecha de septiembre (aunque no por ello pierde valor, puesto que era la primera vez que lo escuchaba) y que os pongo a continuación:

Lo mejor es que Javier Piedrahita, de marketingdirecto.com, grabó esta ponencia (y otras muchas que os iré poniendo) y la subió a youtube. Puesto que el power point es bueno, te recomiendo que veas los 20 minutos de ponencia que grabó Javier:

As vezes precisamos apresentar algum projeto, ou realizar uma apresentação de vendas, custos, ou até mesmo algum trabalho escolar e nos defrontamos com a dificil tarefa de criar uma apresentação. Selecionei do site Papo de Empreendedor, algumas dicas para que você tenha mais facilidade em criar uma apresentação em power point, que seguem abaixo:

1. Não Cometa erros de ortografia: Não checar a escrita das palavras demonstra completa falta de cuidado e atenção. Se você não se importa o suficiente para por à prova a sua apresentação, sua audiência vai ficar menos interessada em você e na sua mensagem. É a forma mais fácil de parecer amador.

2. Não Crie combinações de cores que causem distração: Azul e verde são as mais difíceis de ler.

3. Não Use fontes desnecessárias: Designers profissionais de PowerPoint usam duas, no máximo três, estilos de fontes numa apresentação inteira. Não usem diversas fontes na sua apresentação.

4. Não Use uma fonte muito pequena: Você gostaria de assistir uma apresentação, onde você não consegue ler nada?! Acho que não! Então não escreva com fontes pequenas!

5. Não Insira imagens distorcidas : Imagens usadas em PowerPoint devem ter pelo menos 900×720 pixels. Designers começam com imagens maiores e diminuem seu tamanho para caber no slide. Procure imagesn de tamanho superior ao seu slide e reduza ao tamanho necessário! Nunca pegue uma imagem pequena e aumente sua dimensão, a resolução vai ficar ruim!

6. Não Pareça descuidado: Organize-se! Planeje seu tempo. Normalmente apresentações duram de 20 a 30 minutos!

7. Não Pareça desarrumado: Vista-se bem! Faça aquela faxina no guarda-roupa e arrume-se para causar boa impressão aos palestrantes!! Imagine você assistindo uma palestra de alguem que está de calça surrada, camiseta (que por sinal furada) e usando oculos escuro, por exemplo!

8. Não Leia tudo que está no slide: os slides forma feitos para guiar a apresentação e não para servir de livro digital na sua apresentação!! Escreva em topicos. Não escreva textos longos. A plateia deve se prender a sua apresentação e não ao slide!

9. Planeje sempre um plano B: Imagine que você precise usar internet e extamente na hora de sua apresentação… “puts caiu a rede!” E agora? acaba a apresentação? Não!! Por exemplo, salve todo material que precisar acessar na internet em seu pendriver!! Outra: tenha copias de sua apresentação no seu e-mail, pendriver, cd, entre outras.

10. Pratique sua apresentação: Praticar uma apresentação em voz alta dá trabalho e faz com que você pareça polido, mas é garantia de que o assunto vai fluir melhor e no tempo certo.

11. Não destaque os seus erros: Se você quer mostrar total falta de preparo, diga algo como: “Ops, não tenho ideia de como este slide veio parar aqui”.

12. A primeira impressão é a que fica: Não comece sua apresentação fazendo piadinhas sem graça, pensando que está descontraindo a plateia! Você pode causar má impressão logo de inicio!

13. Não abuse das animações: Não faça suas apresentações com funções “saltar”, “bumerangue” e a temida “nêutrons”, por exemplo, que faz as letras circularem descontroladas. Todas farão a plateia ficar com dor de cabeça.

14. Não Use desenhos de clip art: Procure fotos de resolução boa! Existem tantas sites que disponibilizam esse tipo de serviço. Usando o clip-art do Power Point, sua apresntação ficará com cara de “apresentação de escola primária”!

15. Atualize seus softwares de criação de slides: PowerPoint 2003 serviu seu propósito. Mas não há comparação com o PowerPoint 2007, que é uma ferramenta simplesmente melhor e mais robusta. Por isso procure sempre está por dentro das novidades que giram em torno dos softwares de edição de slides!

^My Powerpoint assignment on “Myself” (how vein).

The professor wanted us to do our only powerpoint assignment on ourselves.  I really don’t like talking about myself. I am very ninja and like to keep things low key. So, I RAGED.. and was going to put all this false information, like I was born and raised in England, while my father was a renowned scientist and my mom owns a bakery (all lies).  I don’t like to lie though, so I put as much/little info as I could, then filled the space with pictures because who doesn’t like pictures?

I actually like how colorful it turned out haha.  I am a colorful person maybe? I like colors.

I went on the goldline yesterday, and Sundays should be cool off days.. but nooo.  LT was packed full of people and it was kind of annoying on my behalf because I don’t like being in spaces with a lot of people blocking your way.

I think I’d fit perfectly in New York in the sense of parkour walking (thank you Kev for reminding me of the name).

Anywho,

^I got some things for Kevin’s care package. I would have gotten more but I wanted to gtfo asap. I’ll go back on non-busy days where tourists wont make me nervous.

The suggestion for today was to try and save water and electricity by remembering to turn off the light switch, a power point, a tap, etc. Because we forget these things the book suggests making stickers to place next to a light switch for example.

This is a somewhat simple solution to a possibly costly memory issue, in that forgetting to flick a switch/turn off a tap costs money by way of the bill, as well as costing more in terms of environmental costs.

I have found myself being far more efficient in these areas in the last little while and hardly ever forget to turn off a light when not needed, turn off a tap when brushing teeth, etc. It did however take a lot of self-discipline and I can see how stickers/post-it’s, etc, can be handy for some people.

How to format a screenplay

Someone has figured out a way to clearly show how to make decent presentations. Let us all take heed…

Today I added pictures to accompany the Animal Silhouettes sub lesson and added a new one, called Silly Sentences.  I also posted a lesson I created that I based on traditional Pennsylvania Dutch Hex Signs to have the students create a Personal Identity Radial Design.  You’ll find a power point of the hex sign examples, the files for the front and back of the brainstorming worksheet I created for the lesson, as well as a few examples of completed student artwork.

N-am mai scris de ceva timp pentru că mi-a fost…lene .Parcă îmi închide cineva forţat ochii şi mă adoarme. Nu ştiu ce se întamplă.Sunt foarte molelişită.E probabil să fie din cauza trecerii de la un anotimp la altul. Adevărul e ca nu e prea frumoasă toamna.Vreau să fie iarnă,să ningă,să vină sărbatorile,să colindam şi să păpăm cozonac. Ciumpalacii ăştia de la tv au cam exagerat cu reclamele pt. sărbatori.E ok să-i faci pe oameni să simtă spiritul sărbatorilor dar nu cu 2 luni înainte frate.Sunt faine toate aceste reclame dar până la Craciun o să ne săturăm de ele,n-or să mai aibă niciun farmec.

La tic trebuie să fac o prezentare power point.Nu mă pricep,prietene.Nici nu ştiu despre ce să fac.Sunt în pană de idei.
Vreau să fac ceva frumos şi constructiv pentru societate.De fapt,societate e mult spus,pentu oraş sau pentru cineva care merită.Întotdeauna am avut iniţiativă şi idei bune dar niciodată n-am fost susţinută. De ce toţi se gândesc numai la ei? E clar că singură nu pot face nimic dar dacă ne-am uni,am face ceva de apreciat. Spre exemplu,în primăvară,am venit cu ideea unei ecologizări în oraş.Profesorii au luat-o de bună şi au hotărât să organizeze o astfel de activitate.Aveau nevoie doar de voluntari.A fost ok până în momentul în care ni s-a spus că cei care nu vor veni,vor primi absenţe (O aberaţie din punctul meu de vedere întrucăt această activitate era sortită unei zile de sâmbătă.Cum să pună absenţe sâmbăta?Ăsta nu e voluntariat :|).Până la urmă nu s-a mai desfăşurat aceasta activitate căci a plouat în acea zi. Un alt exemplu ar fi serbarea de Craciun de anul trecut.Am fost întrebaţi ce am vrea să facem.Am hotărât să jucăm ceva,mai exact episodul destinat acestei sărbători din Copiii de la clasa 402(sunt obsedată de desenele animate,stiu).Toate bune şi frumoase,m-am chinuit căteva ore să scriu replicile,să împart rolurile şi când totul era gata,dezamăgire.Vor pregăti alte clase scenete iar noi,poate la anu’.Cum bă să joace alţii dacă ideea a fost a mea,a clasei mele?M-a deranjat foarte mult acest lucru întrucât vorbisem cu colegii să strângem nişte bănuţi şi să luam nişte cadouri pt. copiii de la sanatoriu.


M-am tuns.Daa,am renunţat la o găleată de păr ).Chiar era foarte mult.Îmi vine să plâng gândindu-mă la el şi la efortul pe care l-am depus îngrijindu-l dar sunt draguţă şi aşa ).
