Incipio Feather $19.99 What can I say about the Incipio Feather other than it’s made of pure awesome

Incipio Feather $19.99

What can I say about the Incipio Feather other than it’s made of pure awesomeness. Really, they’ve corned the market on awesomeness when it comes to making a lightweight, hard plastic case that looks, and feels good. Nothing beats the feel of a naked iPhone, but as much as we all want to tote around the iPhone in it’s birthday suit, at the same time we’re all deathly afraid of harming our precious by an accidental drop. If you want a little piece of mind when transporting the iPhone, but if your main goal is to blur the nakedness line, but would rather not deal with the bodyguard/invisible shield failures, then look no further than the Incipio Feather.

The best thing about iPhone cases is all the varieties to choose from. Personally I don’t care about color, or bling, my style is a super light, hard plastic case that is as close to iPhone nakedness as you can get, but yet still guarded enough to survive a light drop, or being tossed on a table/counter/crowded backpack, and not get scratched (no scratches equals better auction value when you decide to sell it on ebay). If you drop your iPhone a lot then this isn’t the case for you. The Feather is targeted for the people like me who have trained themselves to unconsciously run through the mental checklist to ensure the iPhone is secure before transporting it. If your interested in a case that would protect your iPhone from “dropitis”, then pick any case from iLounge’s top rated (A) case reviews. For the record I’m a big fan of iLounge, but their top rated case reviews are historically skewed toward the over-protective cases, but they do give the Feather a B+ rating which should tell you how good it is incase you don’t believe my review

I have the white colored Feather (currently their are 18 available colors) . The overall durability is very good based on my everyday use. I’ll occasionally toss my phone up on the counter, or spin it around on a desk when I’m listening to music, but nothing too rowdy. I’ve have a few small chips where the velvet coating has been knocked off on one corner, but it’s barely noticeable. The white color and Incipio logo has faded a bit, but that’s par for the course when your rolling with white (I’m a big fan of the storm trooper look…black iPhone, white case). Overall the case is holding up really well for having it for 3+ months, and I can easily see myself having for the life of my 3GS (note: the Feather is only compatible with the 3G/3GS).

The feather is a dead simple design, that you basically just snap onto your iPhone. The fit is really snug, with no worries about about slippage overtime. It has the standard cut outs for the silent switch, volume rocker, head phone jack, dock connector/speakers, camera, and sleep button. The sides of the case sit almost flush with the screen, but doesn’t give you a lip cushion to lay the phone on it’s face without protection, so it’s not advised to lay it on it’s screen unless you have a screen protector. Thankfully the Feather ships with two static screen protectors. I give Incipio an “A for effort” for trying, but honestly the screen protectors aren’t the best quality, so I would advise picking up a Crystal Film static screen protector from Power Support if you want superior clarity.

Listen, if you take care of your phone, and don’t need a kevlar vest to protect it from your sloppy handling, and think the bodyguard/Invisible Shield options are complicated garbage, then it doesn’t get any better than the Incipio Feather.

Unlike most hard protective cases that typically consist of separate front and back parts, the Power

Unlike most hard protective cases that typically consist of separate front and back parts, the Power Support Air Jacket for iPhone 3G is a single plastic case for only the back of an iPhone 3G.

Available in either black or clear, the black version is notable for its rubberized finish. Two screen protection films — “Crystal” (glossy) and “Anti Glare” (matte) — are provided with the Air Jacket.

With a thickness of only 0.7 mm, the Air Jacket appeals to iPhone 3G owners who seek some protection for their phones without the bulk. To that end, the Air Jacket is a sexy piece of accessory designed to show off the iPhone. Once attached, the Air Jacket is almost indiscernible unless one looks hard enough, and its rubberized finish adds a lot more grip to the otherwise slippery plastic back of the iPhone.

But, in the one week I had the Air Jacket on my iPhone, I quickly discovered a couple of major design flaws about the product.

Five days in, I detached it from my iPhone and saw, to my displeasure, that the Air Jacket had left numerous scratches along the sides of the chrome bezel. The scratches were located at the left and right sides of the chrome bezel where one’s fingers would be while holding the phone. It would seem that handling the phone has shifted the Air Jacket enough for its inner edges to scratch the bezel. And they were not light nicks; the scratches were deep and numerous enough that only a thorough buffing with Brasso could remove.

Also, the rubberized finish proved to be quite susceptible to be scratched off, and is simply a coating over what is really a clear Air Jacket. After only five days, the rubberized finish had chipped off at all four corners of the Air Jacket.

For a $34.95 product, the build quality of the Air Jacket is simply disappointing, which is unusual considering how Power Support can, and do, produce innovative and excellent products; its Anti Glare Film, with its silky smooth texture, is the best screen protector I have ever used on any device. Having used PDAs for a decade, and having tried just about every brand of screen protectors, this is high praise from me.

I really wanted to like the Air Jacket. But it is absurd that an accessory designed to protect your device ends up marring it cosmetically after merely a week of use. Power Support should have lined the inner surface of the Air Jacket with some kind of soft material. The shortcomings of this product reflects poor product design and, more glaringly, inadequate product testing. Surely this would have been caught during the testing cycle (if one was even done). Power Support should consider going back to the drawing board; the idea behind this product is great, but is marred in execution.

Until it does so, steer clear of the Air Jacket and get just the Crystal Film or Anti Glare Film Set instead, available separately for $14.95.

Each set contains two pieces, so you can share a set with a loved one or friend. If you constantly find yourself wiping fingerprints off the screen of your iPhone, I strongly recommend the Anti Glare Film; its matte finish masks smears and fingerprints better than its glossy counterpart.

With the iPhone being out in Canada for close to 3 months, there has been a flood of accessories on

With the iPhone being out in Canada for close to 3 months, there has been a flood of accessories on the market. There are at least a hundred cases out there. But, one of the most useful accessories that I’ve come across and purchased is the Anti-Glare Film made by Power Support.

The phone comes with this beautiful scratch resistant glass display that is Super glossy–which is part of it’s beauty. However, it does leave a lot of streaks when you touch it with your fingers. And, when you are outside there is major glare, even with contrast levels turned up.

This is where the film comes in handy. It sells on the Canadian Apple Store (online and retail) for about $15. There are 3 items in the package: 2 Anti-glare films and 1 applicator–since there are 2 films share it and the cost with a friend. The applicator is basically a slightly adhesive piece of plastic you use to pull the dust of the screen. Then you apply the actual film which, contrary to the name, is more like a sheet of plastic than a saran wrap type film. The whole process takes you less than five minutes.

The colours on the screen does lose a little vibrancy, but being able to see the screen, without glare, in the brightest situations make it worth every penny. On top of that, it also does an excellent job hiding any greasy finger marks.

If any of you are iPod Touch users, they have one for you as well.

After standing in line for 1.5 hours, and then shelling out $300 for the 8gb iPhone, I knew I had to

After standing in line for 1.5 hours, and then shelling out $300 for the 8gb iPhone, I knew I had to explore my options with regards to protecting the gadget to rule all gadgets. Now, there are several camps that you could find yourself in when it comes to cases.

1) Naked

A purist, or a nudist, I suppose. You’re going “naked” by not protecting your iPhone at all. Experience the device in its entirety, but run the risk of seeing smudges, scratches, and (gasp!) damage to your $300 purchase.

2) Full Body Skin

The “condom” of the iPhone protection schemes. I know very little about these, but was pretty impressed with the youtube video that Zagg had with its InvisibleShield product. My only issue is how easy it is to install the skin and how easy it would be to remove (for the record, the company claims that the skin leaves no residue).

3) Case

This has been my method of choice for most of my gadgets, including 3 generations of iPods. After several hours of research, I chose to go with the Contour Hardskin. Granted, the iPhone has only been out for a month, so all 3G cases are early releases and have potential for flaws. Case in point: the Hardskin has a major flaw in that once you toggle the silent/vibrate switch, it becomes nearly impossible to toggle back unless you open the case. Another issue is that the case did not come with a screen protector. Besides those 2 issues, I love the case. The grip is improved, the weight is very slightly increased, and the form factor is beautiful in my opinion. Also, I emailed the company about the major flaw and received a response within one day. They said that they were aware of the flaw, have ordered new cases that address the issue, and would send me a replacement once they arrived (within 3-4 weeks). I’ll believe it when I see it, and then I’ll give the case my whole hearted approval.

4) Screen protector

As noted above, the Contour Hardskin did not come with a screen protector, and the Apple Stores (both on Michigan Avenue and at Old Orchard) near me were out of stock, so I waited a bit and went “naked” for a good week and a half. The glass screen was nice and responsive to the touch, but I did get tired of the smudges. After another few hours of research, I opted for the Power Support Anti-Glare Screen Protector. I’ve had some experience applying screen protectors, so I went in prepared (gloves, dust-free area, and everything in one place). The process was pretty straight-forward; I did have a tiny bubble, but I knew it was not a dust particle. Interestingly, the instructions claimed that small bubbles that are not due to dust will disappear after awhile, and sure enough, 2 hours later, the bubble magically disappeared. My screen is now fully protected, the ends of the protector are unseen due to the case, and there is no loss of responsiveness. As far as screen protectors go, this one is top notch, and I’m completely satisfied.

So, that’s what I’ve got – Contour Hardskin with Crystal Support Anti-Glare – for now. I’ve got my eye on the Xylo T3 (“naked” case with screen protector built in), along with future cases that might prove to be better than what I have. Give me a year, and I’m sure I’ll be ready for a different look. Perhaps, a full body skin to give my iPhone a rebirth? Ok, now I’m getting a bit carried away.

ADD (8/28): Thanks for reading all the way down here. So, I just realized that the anti-glare film set came with 2 protectors, and I only need one. So…I am offering the extra protector to you for FREE…if you also happen to like Barack Obama. You see, my fundraising page is off to a slow start. If you’re willing to make a contribution ($5 or more) to my Obama fund, I will send you the brand new screen protector for FREE. It’ll even include the original packaging! Please email your name/address after you make your contribution so I can send you your free gift. If you contribute more than $5, I’ll throw in an extra special prize!

I just bought the Apple iPhone (Time Magazine’s Invention of the Year) the other day and have

I just bought the Apple iPhone (Time Magazine’s Invention of the Year) the other day and have been to busy playing around with it to do much of anything. It can be very distracting…to say the least. It definitely keeps me connected, perhaps too much. I’m notified of each new piece of mail with vibrates and of course I can’t resist seeing who sent me what and I’m off again, into iPhone land…

I was already an AT&T(orig. Cingular) customer, so I thought the transition would be easy, but it was easier. I literally took the iPhone out of the box and connected it to my computer and voila! my old phone was deactivated and the iPhone in place and already syncing my photos, videos, and music–I had my old number and everything was good to go.

One thing I’ve noticed after two and a half days of use is that the way the iPhone responds to finger motion is revolutionary. The whole pinching in to zoom in and tapping (or pinching out) to zoom out, adjusting the amount of pressing pressure to click on links in Safari or magnify text is amazing. As one person put it, it simply does what you want it too. It doesn’t get much better than that.

It cost me $399 (iPhone) + $69 (warranty) + $25 (tax) = about $500.

After some extensive research, I ordered a nice case for the iPhone from cozip off of Amazon ($10 + 7 S&H). It happens to be the number one selling case there and for good reason. It’s sleek and made out of polycarbonate, meaning it’s a hard, but somewhat flexible (but don’t do gymnastics with it). It comes in the most popular black, silver (the same color as the original back), white, pink, and a deep red/crimson (which I bought). The case is very fitted and easily snaps on without creating scratches (as the Agent 18 case does, according to reviews). I don’t know how protective it is to impact (and hopefully I won’t be “testing” this out anytime soon), but at the same time I’m willing to sacrifice some protection for less bulk. What’s the point of having a beautiful device if it’s going to be wrapped within a cm or more of rubber (with lint all over it >:( )? That being said, I’ve got be careful…(knocks on wood).

I also bought the Crystal film from the Apple store for $15. It was very easy application, and keeps me from worrying about scratching the phone’s beautiful 3.5-inch screen. I contemplated between the Power Support crystal film (sold at the Apple store) and the InvisibleShield film, but I’m glad I went with the Crystal Film. I used InvisibleShield for my iPod mini and previous cell phone, and while it is very strong as advertised, I felt like it attracted too much dirt and lint on its edges (on the adhesive). Once again, willing to sacrifice some of the film strength (not too much sacrifice in this case) for the beauty of the phone.

Well, I took the liberty of taking a gazillion photos of the beautiful device. Here’s just a “few.”
