Image : http://www.flickr.com Whatever your destination happens to be, you can accelerate progress a

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Whatever your destination happens to be, you can accelerate progress and maximize your motivation when you can concentrate full where you want to keep at the end. But how do you know to keep the focus, if your goal seems so far away?

Here are three tips.

The power of images. Surround your desktop or wherever you spend the most time with pictures of your destination. If there is a specific object such as a particular car that is easy, pictures from magazinesand brochures are always available. If there is something less tangible than financial independence and a healthy relationship, you are looking for images that evoke the mood, pictures of happy couples or SO beaches. Use to create these images, powerful visualizations, you can call to mind, when and where ever you are, so you start to surround yourself with what you want before you have it.

The power of words. Create a series of statements about yourGoal that can be repeated several times a day in order to implant a strong belief in your subconscious. These rates should be simply worded, clear statements, written in present tense. I am grateful to be completely financially independent, I like to ride my Noodle 500 to the beach every day. Write these statements on pocket cards and carry them with you wherever you go. Take her out often and read the words to you, if you can.

The power ofThoughts. Always think about your goals. Let your mind constantly about things that you want to hike again and again to build the vitality and strength of your visual images. Try to experience the feelings you expect when you reach your goal. Feel the sea breeze on your face, smell the soft leather of your new car, smiling in anticipation of the happy moments you spend with your partner.Whenever the fore the need for exercising these three powers and their targets are muchcloser.

John Lambert

John Lambert was born in autumn 1619, Calton, West Riding, Yorkshire and he dies on March 1684, at St. Nicholas Isle, off Plymouth, Cornwall. A leading parliamentary general during the English Civil War (1642-51) and the principal architect of the protectorate, the form of republican government existing in England from 1653 to 1660. Coming from a well-to-do family of gentry, Lambert joined the parliamentary army as a captain at the outbreak of the Civil War between King Charles I and Parliament. He first distinguished himself in encounters with the Royalists at Bradford, Yorkshire, in March 1644, and he fought bravely in the major parliamentary victory at Marston Moor, Yorkshire in July 1644. A major general at the age of 28, he helped Henry Ireton draw up the “Heads of Proposals,” a draft constitution aimed at reconciling the conflicting interests of the army, Parliament, and the King.

At the beginning of the second phase of the Civil War in 1648, Lambert was commander of the troops of northern England. He and Oliver Cromwell routed the Scottish Royalist invaders at Preston, Lancashire, in August 1648, and on March 22, 1649, Lambert captured Pontefract, Yorkshire, the last Royalist stronghold in England.

Second in command under Cromwell during the campaigns against the Royalists in Scotland in 1650 and 1651, Lambert and Cromwell, on September 3, 1651, decisively defeated Charles I’s son, Charles II, at Worcester in the final battle of the Civil War.

In succeeding years Lambert played a key role in Cromwell’s experimental governments. He persuaded Cromwell to dissolve the “Rump” Parliament in 1653, putting the army firmly in control of the government, and was responsible for drawing up the Instruments of Government under which Cromwell assumed dictatorial powers as Lord Protector of the commonwealth in 1653. Lambert served on the Council of State and was Cromwell’s right-hand man until, in 1657, he outspokenly opposed the proposal that Cromwell be made king. When he refused to swear allegiance to the Protector, Cromwell deprived him of his offices but granted him a substantial annual pension.

After Cromwell’s death (September 1658), Lambert gradually returned to politics. He did not openly cooperate with the army officers who deposed Cromwell’s son and successor, Richard, in May 1659, but he was one of the most powerful figures in the ensuing power struggle. Although he helped restore the “Rimp” Parliament in May 1659, he soon broke with it and dissolved it by force. Shortly thereafter, his army was defeated by the forces of Gen. George Monck, who marched from Scotland to reinstate parliament. Monck proceeded to restore King Charles I to power (1660), and in June 1662 Lambert was sentenced to death for his part in the Civil War, Granted a reprieve, he spent the rest of his life in prison.

Fresh from the “No Surprise There” file, it has just come out that “Bishops of the

Fresh from the “No Surprise There” file, it has just come out that “Bishops of the Roman Catholic Church in Dublin covered up decades of child abuse by priests to protect the church’s reputation” according to a three year investigation. Let’s check out some highlights from the investigation:

1. The Irish government has stated that the result of the investigation “shows clearly that a systemic, calculated perversion of power and trust was visited on helpless and innocent children in the archdiocese.”

2. The Dublin Archdiocese attempted to get an insurance policy in 1987 for future legal costs and compensation claims, all while claiming to be completely ignorant of the whole situation. However according to the investigation“At the time, bishops knew of at least 17 priests linked to abuse cases, the report said, and “the taking out of insurance was an act proving knowledge of child sexual abuse as a potential major cost to the archdiocese.”

3. “One priest admitted to sexually abusing over 100 children, while another accepted that he had abused on a fortnightly basis during the currency of his ministry which lasted for over 25 years,”

4. Three Dublin archbishops — John Charles McQuaid (1940-72), Dermot Ryan (1972-84) and Kevin McNamara (1985-87) — did not tell police about clerical abuse cases, instead opting to avoid public scandals by shuttling offenders from parish to parish and even overseas to U.S. churches, the commission found.

And those are just the highlights!

I still believe that the whole epidemic (and that’s what it is, an epidemic) of WIDESPREAD child abuse by the Catholic Church has not even begun to hit its peak. It will come out one day just how many thousands and thousands of innocent children were abused by a money grubbing, disgusting excuse for a “godly” organization.

Keep in mind, this didn’t just happen in one city, or one state, or one country, or one continent. This happened in churches all over the entire world. Any “believer” who doesn’t see that the Catholic church is a HUMAN organization controlled by people who DEFEND their own when they’ve sexually, emotionally and physically abused children, and make active attempts to cover up these horrific actions is truly a blind sheep who simply cannot think for themselves. Any believer who doesn’t see that you are being taken advantage of by a system that rewards child molesters, is a sad excuse for a just human being. It still amazes me that more people aren’t disgusted and outraged at this whole situation.

Widespread sexual child abuse from those supposedly close to God and active attempts by those in power to cover it up. Threatening the children and their families to keep quiet. Controlling the governments to protect themselves. Is that what your God stands for?

Happy Thanksgiving.

Gypsy girl, Mariutza, was raised in the Louisiana swamps away from all modern conveniences. When “the Badness” kills her grandfather, Mariutza must go into the city and find the prophet, Jaazaniah, but Mari feels completely out of her element. She’s never even ridden in a car or tasted Sprite. Still, it’s what she trained all her life to do. Find Jaazaniah, the prophet.

Jaazaniah is a musician in a bar. He has a seizure of some kind and is convinced that someone spiked his drink. He goes home to find his apartment ransacked, and strange cloaked men start chasing him. Then he meets Mariutza, a beautiful girl whose religious ideas are a bit far-fetched. She claims he is some prophet and clearly has a few screws loose from growing up in the swamp. Still, she knows things about him that she can’t possibly know, and Jaazaniah is drawn to working with her to figure out what is going on.

I loved John B. Olson’s Shade, so I couldn’t wait to read Powers. At first, I was disappointed to find all new characters. When I really want to read a sequel, it’s because of the characters in the first book. Still, I kept at it. Olson’s non-stop action gripped me and kept me turning the pages. His characters, Mari and Jaaz, were totally intriguing. Then some old characters popped up and things started to come together in a bizarre and exciting way. And then it was over, leaving quite a few questions hanging. Where Shade reads as a creepy vampire/monster novel, Powers reads as supernatural suspense. “The Badness” is always at the characters’ heels, but I never really knew why or saw much of it until the end. So…a really fun read. Entertaining and action-packed. But the ending left me wondering. Is there a book three? I hope so.

 Friday’s AHL Boxscores

ROCHESTER 5, SYRACUSE 2
Defenseman Keaton Ellerby, a former first-round draft pick who entered the night without a goal in his first 16 games this season, netted a hat trick to lead Rochester to a 5-2 win over visiting Syracuse at the Blue Cross Arena.

Ellerby, drafted 10th overall by the Florida Panthers in 2007, scored once in each period and registered a pair of power play markers in that contest. In one night, the second-year pro matched the three goals he scored in 75 games as a rookie for Rochester last season.

Shawn Matthias also put up three points (1-2-3) for the Americans, and Andrew Sweetland rounded out the offense. David Brine and defenseman Clay Wilson each posted two assists on the night.

Amerks rookie goaltender Alexander Salak earned the victory with 16 saves, helping his club move to 14-2-1-0 (29 points) for the campaign.

Dan Fritsche and Trevor Frischmon scored for the Crunch, who are winless in four straight games (0-3-0-1).

TORONTO 7, LAKE ERIE 1
Rookie Christian Hanson tallied three goals and an assist and fired a game-high seven shots on net as Toronto rolled to a 7-1 road win over Lake Erie before 8,116 fans at Quicken Loans Arena.

Hanson, who leads the Marlies with eight goals and 16 points in 16 games this season, completed the troika by scoring at even strength, on the power play, and shorthanded.

Alex Foster tallied a pair of goals in the victory, while Viktor Stalberg (1-1-2) and Ryan Hamilton also found the back of the net.

Jiri Tlusty and rookie Tyler Bozak each chipped in three assists for the Marlies, who entered the night having managed just three goals during a four-game winless skid (0-3-0-1).

Toronto goaltender James Reimer earned the win with 21 saves on 22 shots in net.

Marty Sertich scored the lone goal for the Monsters, who fell to 1-5-0-1 in their last seven contests.

BRIDGEPORT 3, ABBOTSFORD 1
Bridgeport goaltender Nathan Lawson made a season-high 47 saves on 48 shots to lead the Sound Tigers to a 3-1 road win over Abbotsford on Friday at the Entertainment & Sports Centre.

Lawson, an AHL All-Rookie Team member last season, stopped 41 shots over the first two periods alone and improved to 5-4-0 on the campaign.

Trevor Smith posted a goal and an assist for the Sound Tigers, who also received markers from Greg Mauldin and defenseman Mark Flood, who scored his first of the year.

Sean Bentivoglio chipped in two helpers in the victory, which extended Bridgeport’s point streak to four games (3-0-0-1).

Defenseman Matt Pelech registered the Heat’s lone goal with one second to play in the opening period. Abbotsford will seek revenge when it hosts the Sound Tigers in a rematch on Saturday night.

PROVIDENCE 5, SPRINGFIELD 2
Providence tallied three unanswered goals in the third period to skate off with a 5-2 win over visiting Springfield before 8,424 fans at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.

Kirk MacDonald snapped a 2-2 tie for the Bruins at 5:25 of the third frame, Guillaume Lefebvre added insurance at the 12:45 mark, and Jamie Arniel sealed the win with an empty-netter at 19:01.

Arniel and Jeff LoVecchio each finished with a goal and an assist for Providence, and defenseman Andy Wozniewski also found the back of the net.

Providence goaltender Dany Sabourin made 19 saves in the winning effort, as the Bruins improved to 3-1-0-0 in their last four contests.

Ryan O’Marra and Colton Fretter netted goals for the Falcons, whose five-game points streak (4-0-1-0) came to an end.

GRAND RAPIDS 4, TEXAS 1
A three-goal second period vaulted Grand Rapids to a 4-1 win over visiting Texas before 7,087 fans at Van Andel Arena.

Jan Mursak, Patrick Rissmiller (1-1-2), and Kris Newbury tallied second-period goals for the Griffins, and defenseman Jakub Kindl added a marker in the third frame.

Defenseman Doug Janik and rookie Tomas Tatar each posted a pair of assists for Grand Rapids, and goaltender Daniel Larsson earned the victory with 24 saves on 25 shots on net.

The Griffins improved to 10-1-0-0 in their last 11 games and 9-1-0-0 on home ice this season.

Rookie Colton Sceviour netted a power play goal for the Stars, whose 12-game points streak (9-0-2-1) ended. Texas lost in regulation for the first time since a 4-0 setback to Lake Erie on Oct. 20.

LOWELL 2, NORFOLK 1
Lowell scored twice in the first period, and goaltender Mike McKenna made it stand up for a 2-1 win over visiting Norfolk at Tsongas Arena on Friday.

Vladimir Zharkov gave the Devils a 1-0 lead just 24 seconds after the opening face-off, and Michael Swift made it a 2-0 game at the 12:12 mark of the first period.

It remained 2-0 until Norfolk’s Brandon Bochenski tallied his league-leading 12th goal of the season 12:33 into the second period, but the Admirals were unable to get the equalizer.

McKenna (7-3-0) finished with 29 saves on 30 shots, helping the Devils move to 6-1-0-0 in their last seven games.

PORTLAND 3, WORCESTER 1
Portland scored a power play goal in each period to beat reeling Worcester by a 3-1 count on Friday at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

Reigning AHL Rookie of the Year Nathan Gerbe posted a goal and an assist for the Pirates, who also received tallies from Jeff Cowan and Philip Gogulla.

Rookie Tyler Ennis registered a pair of assists in the victory, giving him five points (1-4-5) in his last two outings. Goaltender Jean-Philippe Lamoureux earned the win with 32 saves on 33 shots on net.

Torrey Mitchell tallied a power play goal for the Sharks, whose franchise-record losing skid extended to seven games.

HERSHEY 5, BINGHAMTON 2
Alexandre Giroux registered a goal and two assists to lead Hershey to a 5-2 road win over Binghamton before 4,710 fans at the Broome County Arena.

Giroux, who played for the Senators from 2002-04, has now racked up eight points (5-3-8) in three visits to Binghamton this season, all of which have resulted in Bears victories.

Andrew Gordon posted a goal and a helper for Hershey, which also received markers from Boyd Kane and Trevor Bruess, who scored his first as a professional.

Keith Aucoin chipped in two assists, and Bears goaltender Jason Bacashihua earned the victory with 38 saves on 40 shots. Hershey extended its winning streak to five games and moved to 9-1-0-0 in its last 10 outings.

Ryan Keller and Martin St. Pierre netted goals for the Senators in the losing effort.

MANCHESTER 2, ALBANY 1
Bud Holloway’s goal at 11:24 of the third period broke a 1-1 tie and sent Manchester on its way to a 2-1 win over visiting Albany on Friday at the Verizon Wireless Arena.

Holloway, who had not scored since Oct. 24 vs. Providence, was assisted on the play by Oscar Moller and defenseman Joe Piskula.

The Monarchs took a 1-0 lead when Gabe Gauthier netted a power play goal at 8:13 of the second period, but the River Rats’ Steven Goertzen tied it just 2:14 into the third frame.

Manchester goaltender Jonathan Bernier earned the victory with 33 saves on 34 shots, improving to 8-4-2 on the campaign.

The Monarchs (12-4-1-2, 27 points) maintained their two-point lead on Lowell for first place in the Atlantic Division.

PEORIA 7, SAN ANTONIO 2
Peoria built a 5-0 lead after the opening period and cruised to a 7-2 road win over San Antonio at the AT&T Center on Friday.

Adam Cracknell led the way with two goals and an assist for the Rivermen, Julian Talbot and defenseman Brendan Bell each posted a goal and a helper, while Nicholas Drazenovic, Chris Porter, and Mitch Love also found the back of the net.

The Rivermen are now 2-2-0-0 in their last four games; they have outscored opponents 12-6 in the two victories and been outscored 7-0 in the two losses.

Peoria goaltender Ben Bishop earned the victory on Friday with 37 saves on 39 shots.

Kevin Porter and Chad Kolarik tallied third-period goals for the Rampage, who are winless in 10 straight games (0-8-1-1) and haven’t won a game since a 7-2 triumph over Grand Rapids on Oct. 18.

ROCKFORD 1, CHICAGO 0
Bracken Kearns tallied the game’s lone goal at 7:31 of the third period as Rockford edged visiting Chicago by a 1-0 count at the MetroCentre on Friday.

Kearns’ third goal of the season – and second game-winner – was assisted by Danny Bois and rookie defenseman Brian Connelly, who now has a point in three straight games (1-3-4).

The IceHogs poured 43 shots on Wolves goaltender Drew MacIntyre, including 23 in the second period alone. MacIntyre took the loss despite making 42 saves on the night.

Rockford goaltender Joe Fallon earned the shutout with 26 saves in net.

Chicago’s three-game winning streak came to an end.

MANITOBA 5, HAMILTON 3
Mario Bliznak and rookie Sergei Shirokov each registered a goal and an assist as Manitoba skated off with a 5-3 win over visiting Hamilton on Friday before 8,415 fans at the MTS Centre.

Erik Christensen also scored in his first game of a conditioning stint with the Moose, who brought a 3-1 lead into the late stages of the third period.

Captain Mike Keane added an empty-net tally at the 18:29, seemingly clinching the victory for Manitoba. But the Bulldogs climbed back into it on goals by Andrew Conboy at 18:41 and defenseman P.K. Subban at 19:19.

Hamilton could not find the equalizer, however, and Keane tallied another empty-net marker to finally seal the victory at 19:39.

Manitoba goaltender Cory Schneider earned the victory with 35 saves in net, helping the Moose to their season-high third straight win.

MILWAUKEE 3, HOUSTON 2
Milwaukee built a 3-0 lead early in the third period and held on for a 3-2 road win over Houston at the Toyota Center.

Robert Dietrich and Mike Santorelli netted first-period goals for the Admirals. After a scoreless middle frame, Ryan Jones, who assisted on Santorelli’s marker, extended the lead to 3-0 just 1:05 into the third frame.

The Aeros attempted a comeback, as Petr Kalus scored unassisted at 7:22 and Chad Rau followed with a power play tally at 15:17. But Houston could not pull even and fell to 1-2-0-0 on its four-game homestand.

Milwaukee goaltender Chet Pickard earned the win with 22 saves on 24 shots, helping the Admirals snap a brief two-game winless skid (0-1-1-0).

After they both enjoy Saturday night off, the teams will square off for a rematch in Houston on Sunday afternoon.

Hi Guys & Girls,

Due to postings I’ve just discovered on the internet illustrating how many INCORRECTLY TRAINED – DANGEROUS & UNINSURED wannabe Street Hypnotists there are I urge you to send this email to every hypnosis and magical mentalism friend you have…

CHECK THIS VIDEO OUT FIRST…

http://www.metacafe.com/watch/3249046/street_hypnosis_in_uk_is_illegal_plastic_reality_dangers/

And then CHECK THIS EXPLOSIVE SITE OUT:

http://roylehypnotist.wordpress.com/the-very-real-dangers-of-street-hypnosis-reality-is-plastic-the-manchurian-approach-anthony-jacquin-zap-street-trance-other-things-such-as-hypno-attack-encouraing-people-sometimes-unk/

And Here’s what KEN WEBSTER (Chairman Of The Federation of Ethical Stage Hypnotists) has to say about it all:

http://roylehypnotist.wordpress.com/2009/08/25/what-does-ken-webster-the-chairman-of-the-federation-of-ethical-stage-hypnotists-fesh-think-about-illegal-and-dangerous-street-hypnotists/

I’d strongly advise you all to READ EVERY WORD of the above postings and also EVERY COMMENT made about the postings and then decide for yourself….. but REMEMBER THIS…

01) Under 1952 Hypnotism Act you can face a £1,000 Fine…

02) Breaking the Hypnosis Conditions of Licensing Act 2003 could lead to a £10,000 fine and/or six months imprisonment for some involved and ultimately mega bad press and litigation agains the hypnotist….

03) KEN WEBSTER has issued a statement (see posting above) confirming that my concerns are correct and that these ill trained UNI|NSURED and UNLICENSED wannabe hypnotists are both potentially dangerous whilst also being ILLEGAL….

04) NUmerous UK Councils have issued statements (see above links) confirming this to be correct and that THE UK STREET MAGIC HYPNOTIST’S are ILLEGAL – UNLICENSED AND UNINSURED…

I’d say that also makes them wholly UNETHICAL and IRRESPONSIBLE… But hey what do you expect when your sold a product (say Plastic Book or DVD) which does not cover UK LAWs….

And thats why my Special Xmas offer COVER’S ALL UK HYPNOSIS LAWS (and all loopholes) together with isurance details and such like… So to BE A LEGAL – HONEST AND SAFE ETHICAL HYPNOTIST Secure your Future now by visiting….

Dream 2 of this week was scribbled down, this time in my regular messy writing, not all-caps but joi

Dream 2 of this week was scribbled down, this time in my regular messy writing, not all-caps but joined and very scruffy. I also drew a little drawing to try and remember an element of me dream. A beach. It had a statue on it which looked kind of like that American Rod thing in Washington DC, or like the black towers in Digimon. Was weird. Here we go with the badly structured, written and remembered notes.

“I have special powers (levitation) when A and his sisters take me to a beach (used to be Palestinian, Serbian?) – There is a statue and I close my eyes and can levitate – either no-one sees me or cares. (Dream, Weds 18/11/09)

Then L has powers takes ring pull of can removes from inside from the side and re-attaches. - Friend talks about living with father as does unknown, quite large South Asian guy?

I, in different kind of story pass through building (dome shape) land in chair seating area – only little girl notices – I make my way somewhere. Don’t remember.

At work and watching a movie from 2 producers - a woman (looks like Lindsay Lohan but is nice / friendly) is there – I keep taking oranges from reduction and putting back in place while B does opposite. This happens twice before he explains – comes to scene where woman is naked and with a man – she explains the movie is called terminator, but rather than it being a joke she looks upset – starts crying while she is comforted by me – I feel sorry - don’t know why.”

Right. It isn’t exactly a pornographic movie but it seems to be that this woman really didn’t like seeing the movie being played seemingly in a random place on a rubbish old television with video in a supermarket. On top of this was me not being able to understand either why this whole idea existed or why it was at my work and including people I’d never thought I’d dream about.

The way it started was very different, with the superpowers. It felt so cool. What I didn’t seem to write down but remember is that we took public transport after the first part on the beach to a bridge. That’s where the discussion about father came up and where I, from the free way, levitated towards a building with quite a bit of teeth gritting difficulty to land on the side of this building which was more harsh a curve than the millennium dome but very similar. I then, with more eye closing and teeth gritting passed through it to land on a chair standing upright, only to be noticed by a single person. A little girl.

At the beach part it seemed like I knew a lot about this almost mythical history, of some different culture that had been forgotten and where this scene with the statue, also right near a bridge – albeit a lot quieter with seemingly no nearby traffic, released dormant powers in chosen people. This was another cool dream I thought would be a good adaptation to a story. But it’s not complete, the picture is bare and it seems to make little sense to me why it’s so random, jumping from about 3 to 4 different scenes and changing faces of friends and people I know while inventing about 3 new people at the same time.

I wrote a note on my phone a little bit later on, like something hit me suddenly about the dream that I had to record…

“It was night time on the tiny beach. Moon and stars were out. It was beautiful.”

My Tiefling Psion on top of stack of power point tokens. Now that I’ve played the Psion class

My Tiefling Psion on top of stack of power point tokens.

Now that I’ve played the Psion class for one month, I thought I’d give a retrospective review.

The Psion is a controller class unlike previous ones. It has only two area-effects, and its the attacks generally have a damage + debuff (increase enemies’ vulnerabilities) effect. There’s also not a lot of movement like there are for some other classes. For all its debuff attacks the class is kinda like a Leader, but without any healing abilities. The Mind Thrust ranged attack does a nice bit of damage along with debuff when augmented, and in that sense it reminds me a bit of my Ranger, in the striker sense.

My favorite attack power is Betrayal, in which you slide an enemy and force it to make a basic attack on one of its allies. It feels a little like chess by moving pieces around the battle mat, and it’s just plain nasty to attack an ally. Unfortunately the way I understand how 4e works, is that pcs and npcs understand all the attacks and their effects, and so it’s absent the confusion and horror on bad guy’s face when his friend takes time out of combat to attack him.

The augmentable at-wills is an interesting mechanic and it works quite well. Because the at-will powers are pretty good by themselves, I don’t miss the encounter powers. The augmentation levels make sense and benefit of using 2 points to augment seems like its worth giving up 2 separate 1 point augments. I’ve been using poker chips as physical symbols of the my power point pool, and that made it quite easy to keep track of them. There’s also a nice of feel of ante’ing up.

The weakest point of the Psion is melee. My character is limited to cloth armor and none of the attack powers are melee, so if a monster is next door, I have to risk the AoO or whack them with a mere 1/2 level + proficiency with my staff implement. In the combats I’ve been in so far, I am pretty well defended in ranged (especially with resistances and a good reflex and will), but whenever my character’s gotten to melee, his hit points have disintegrated fast.

As with almost all classes of the flavor differences between them plays out only on the battlefield. The thing the Psion is really missing is some kind of mind-reading or empathic ability. Since I have a very low Wisdom, my character’s Insight is my lowest skill, despite the fact that I can command someone to attack an ally. Even the Send Message utility power is pretty weak since a line of effect is implied. It would be more useful to communicate with someone further away. I’ve been using Bluff and Intimidate skills out of combat to pretend like my character is a mean-as-they-come mind-reading SOB. So far no one has called me on that yet.

I surrendered to the powers and principalities last weekend and signed my first marriage license. I’

I surrendered to the powers and principalities last weekend and signed my first marriage license. I’m sorry Chuck Campbell, who taught me so much about the powers. I’m sorry Stan Saunders, who taught me how to be countercultural. I’m sorry Kim Long, who helped me think about weddings so carefully. But I did it, I signed a marriage license.

Now for most of you, I imagine this strikes you as nothing to be sorry about. And let me be clear: in many ways I signed very happily. It was a wonderful wedding and an honor to preside. Erik and Angela are great for each other, and I see God’s blessing in and through their relationship. It’s nothing about the particular wedding at all, but about the concept of ministers signing marriage licenses in the first place. As I’ve argued for years, in a country where the separation of church and state is upheld so that both might thrive, why in the world are ministers still signing marriage licenses?

I held this perspective even before some states started legalizing gay marriage and others decidedly did not, but our current hodgepodge of marriage laws should make pastors even more suspicious of signing their names to state documents for reasons of their church function. No matter which side of the gay marriage debate you’re on, why do pastors insist in breaking down the wall of church state separation so often and signing our names on the licenses?

Why? Well, I suppose, both out of habit and out of pastoral sensitivity. It is hard to tell a couple whose wedding you’re conducting that you’re not willing to sign the license. That just adds annoyance and expense to an already hectic wedding schedule. And I suppose pastors wiser and smarter than I have been signing licenses for ages. I guess that’s why I relented so quickly when faced with my first wedding.

Ultimately, I tell myself, I signed so happily out of pastoral sensitivity. That makes me feel a little better, I guess, but it could just be a nice story I tell myself to make me feel better. In the back of my mind I wonder what other strongly held positions I’ll surrender out of “pastoral sensitivity.” Where is the line between pastoral sensitivity and obeying the powers?

I just don’t know, but I know I’m still not comfortable with popping my John Hancock on that license. Maybe it’s because I’m young and only been ordained for a few months, or maybe it’s because I’m suspicious of institutions telling me what I can and can’t do. Either way, I signed that darn license and a couple is now married in the eyes of the state. Fair enough, I guess, they were already married in the eyes of God — may as well get the tax break. But I’m still not comfortable with what made me break so easily.

Scarab is my Gadgeteer. The goal of the build is to create a solid core out of the gadget powers and go from there. I went through a couple iterations of the gadget build before settling on this one.

Powers

Sonic Blaster (Rank 1 + Refraction of Sound) — This is a nice energy builder with decent damage (as energy builders go) and a good energy return rate. With the advantage, it goes from a single target attack to a cone and this makes it even better because then it can be used as a carrier for the dreaded Sonic Device.

Gauntlet Chainsaw (Rank 3)– Ok, so I go from being a hero to being that guy in Texas Chainsaw Massacre? Well, I am supposed to be arresting the bad guys, not killing them so… maybe the chainsaw just stuns them! That’s it! It’s a Taser Saw!!! Overblown rationalizations for a silly power aside, GC is a great melee power, perhaps one of the best in the game. It is a high damage, maintained, cone melee attack that ticks every half-second. Its only drawback is the fact that it has a prohibitive energy cost.

I putzed around with lots of different builds with lots of different attacks, and had even tried the Chainsaw and dismissed it because of its high energy cost. However, I later revisited GC and specced into a build with super Endurance and Intelligence. With the extra energy and reduced power cost, I could now run the saw for a full maintain, cutting through bad guys like teens in a slasher flick. If you spec correctly, you can cut through henchmen, villains and even master villains in a few seconds, making this the signature power of the build.

Sonic Device (Rank 1) — Though this power does good damage, its main purpose in Scarab’s build is for crowd control. I charge in with my cone Sonic Blaster and then click on the device and all of the henchmen are either dead or stunned. More fresh meat for the Chainsaw!

Personal Force Field (Rank 2) — PFF is a power that has taken its share of criticism and rightfully so; it is probably the least useful passive defense in the game. Still, I was determined to make use of Personal Force Field and Scarab can do so because of his mix of super Endurance, great crowd control and high damage output. Scarab is hoping to stun and kill (taze) his opponents quickly and only needs the “up-front” defense that PFF provides. Is PFF going to fail me at higher levels? That is part of the experiment.

Field Surge (Rank 1) — This power allows me to regenerate my force field and doubles as an oh crap power when things get dicey. I would never take PFF as my defense without also picking up Field Surge.

Munitions Bots & Medical Drones (Rank 1) — I took both types of bots because I wanted to go with the Power Suit/Gadget theme and I thought robots would be cool. The munitions bots are pretty good pets, doing great cone damage in their immobile turret form. The med drones are ok as a maintenance heal, but when there is an emergency, they are either healing someone else, on a cooldown, or dead. Fortunately, between my highly offensive style, my force field and field surge, I rarely need the drones.

Field Eruption (Rank 1 + Gravitational Polarity) — This power is used almost exclusively as a damage buff.

Stats

Scarab has super Endurance and Intelligence. This combo allows me to run the chainsaw with impunity and has the nice side effects of reducing cooldowns and buffing pet damage (though I think the way pets scale with stats is pretty weak).

Tactics

My tactics on Scarab are pretty simple: energy build, trigger sonic device, chainsaw. On tough enemies, I can use Field Eruption for the damage buff and make sure the bots are in their offensive turret mode. Large groups, or very powerful enemies can surprise me with their incoming damage and so against such foes, I have to keep an eye on my health bar and use Field Surge as soon as I start taking damage (meaning my force field has dropped). Unfortunately, this leaves my

Thoughts

Though it is common knowledge by now, one thing to note about Scarab’s build is that he lacks Experimental Blaster, the default starter attack for a gadgeteer. This is a low-damage, long-charging blast that has a number of wacky effects that have anywhere from a 1-20% chance to proc on an attack. Well, what I would really like to proc is DEATH, so I think this power underperforms. If you save your cash through the first 5 levels, you can respec out of that starter power and get another. I dropped the blaster and got Gauntlet Chainsaw which is infinitely superior.

I have mixed thoughts about Scarab. On one hand, he is fun to play and pretty effective… and a snappy dresser to boot! On the other hand, at level 21, I feel that the build is mostly complete and that any powers I get now are just gravy. This brings up one of the design oddities of Champions Online: there aren’t any cooldowns on attacks and thus, you don’t need to acquire multiple attacks to form a chain. For Scarab, this meant that quite early, I had my full attack chain (Sonic Blaster, Gauntlet Chainsaw and Sonic Device). Similarly, at the moment, I don’t feel the need for any more defenses. That leaves utility powers and there aren’t many. So, though I may be having fun with this guy, being “done” with his build at level 21 is a little disheartening.

We hear it day in and day out, in causual conversation, in the lyrics of songs, used in movie line

We hear it day in and day out, in causual conversation, in the lyrics of songs, used in movie lines and people use it to express emotion or just to sound cool. Many people don’t even know that they are saying it all, because they have become numb to it. What am I talking about? The carless, blasphemous use of the title of ”God” and the name and title of Jesus Christ. The entire world does this continually, without even a blink of concern! Why? Because God has supernatural angelic beings that He created, who somewhere in eternity, before man was created, rebelled with Lucifer, now Satan, and became the enemies of God, also called pricipalities, powers and spiritual wickedness in high places. Now, by the spiritual prompting of these beings, they move mankind to speak against the title of God and the name of Jesus for the purpose of blasphemy and in the process dooming those who are doing the speaking, that is unless at some point in their lives they repent and receive Christ. Through mankind, they cause the world to blaspheme against God the Father and the Son. But, in their efforts to accomplish this blasphemy, they inadvertantly revealed who the true God is. For what other names under heaven are blasphemed of those who would be called God? You don’t hear any other name blasphemed and the reason being is because they are not the true God. The powers of darkness are not going waste their time moving mankind to speak against names that mean nothing, but only against the true God and His Son. For someone whom they don’t believe in, they sure do utter His name and title an awful lot. But not to worry, this is not escaping God’s attention, for He is keeping a record. Jesus said “Every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give an account thereof on the day of judgment.” The angels will also be judged and held accountable. So, for those who die in their sins and find themselves standing at the great white throne judgment, they will be accountable for everything they ever did, said and thought of, as well as for every motive, including every time they casually mis-used the name or title of God. Fortunately, by the grace of God, their is hope. For anyone who believes that Christ came, was crucified, buried and resurrected and receives him as Lord can be forgiven for all things completely (Matthew 12:31-32)
