I recently received this comment about my lack of commentary on trends that are fashionable, so I’ll rectify this by talking about what I’m known for: my boots. I love shoes, just like almost every other girl out there, but I’m extremely picky about my footwear, especially boots. I love when fall hits for the sole (pun!) purpose of showing off my boots. And these aren’t your typical every day boots. I rock a pair of vintage, leather, knee-high boots from Italy. And I’ve also got a pair of black suede, thigh-high boots for when I’m feeling particularly vampy. I think the fact that I own these has spoiled me for most other boots I see in stores these days.

Regardless, the new Fall/Winter season collections have given me a LOT to love! The big name designers really brought it back this season, namely Rodarte’s FW 2009 Collection had me drooling over the detail and the bandage work on those thigh high boots. Prada’s FW 2009 Collection also presented a few amazing thigh-highs, but much less suitable for every day life.

So the trend has started from the very top designers and slowly trickled to the student body and this is a trend I would absolutely love to see more of. Tall boots make your legs look thinner and longer. They serve to make your outfit look that much more put together and thought out. They can add a touch of class to anything. Wearing my boots with a t-shirt and jeans makes the ensemble look like a million bucks compared to if I had simply worn sneakers or even UGGs instead. It’s the perfect way to add that little subtle oomph to any occasion. They’re perfect for dinner with family or friends, long walks by the lake, and even just to go to class. My favourite thing to do in mine is just go shopping down Princess. They make me feel like such a fashionista. (Except if I’m going to buy shoes or pants and I’m taking them off constantly. Then it’s not such a good idea.) Oh, and on top of it all, they’re warm! So no one can say they’re completely impractical.

I’ve seen quite a few amazing pairs of knee-high boots being worn around campus. Some, however, have gone overboard onto hooker boot territory. It’s a very fine line between classy and trashy when it comes to tall boots.
Do not wear tall boots that have a heel with a miniskirt. There’s no way to save this from being trashy, even if your skirt is made of tween and you’re wearing a turtle neck top too. If you’re going to wear a heeled boot and skirt combo, I suggest a pencil skirt. Avoid having the bottom of your skirt cover the top of your boots. Skirts are flirty and when your whole leg is covered like that, it gives the impression that you’re awkwardly trying to hide your body.
Do just go simple and wear your boots with jeans. Especially if your boots are leather, you can’t go wrong tucking a pair of skinny jeans into them. There isn’t too much that can ruin this outfit. Skinny jeans and tall boots will go with almost any kind of top I can think of, all the more reason to rock this lock and wear the top on your closet that you rarely get use out of.
Also, they’re practically the only footwear you can wear to a club besides heels. But only with jeans! Next time you don’t want to be overly dressy at a bar or a club, try the skinny jeans and tall boots combo with a nice top. You’ll feel dressy enough for the occasion and dance all night without your feet covered in blisters by the end of the night.

Now obviously we’re poor students who don’t have thousands to spend on a pair of designer thigh-high boots. Although a pair of tall boots are going to be in a higher price range compared to regular boots, I consider them a HUGE investment. You’re going to be wearing them for years to come and they are so versatile. So for those of you who are now lusting after a pair, here are a few more affordable alternatives:
* Aldo’s Bezzo boot is fabric, but gives off that vampy, leather look for a really reasonable price. This is pretty simple for those who want the look, but don’t want something too flashy.
* Aldo’s Coffelt boot has also caught my eye. I am a fan of small embellishments on boots such as a faux lace-up or tie. The tie at the back of these really adds a bit more life to them.
* Chinese Laundry’s Trust Me boot — I am SERIOUSLY LOVING these right now! Chinese Laundry has a sale going on right now and I am dying over my lack of funds. These come in leather or suede and the button detail at the top is adorable. They are going for about $110.00 Canadian right now! (I prefer these to the Tripin alternative, simply because I’m a fan of the thin boot.)
* Chinese Laundry’s Turbo boot looks so incredibly soft and comfy. Again these are on sale and going for $110.00 CDN right now.

The fashion pack is different from the most, even the celebrities. What you see on the runway will most likely be seen on these super humans but, with their own signatures. The ‘hat’ on Phoebe, that fox shrug on super stylist Katie Grand and the warrior Prada dress on Caroline all shows us how “fearless” they are! The difference between their way of dressing to someone like Rihanna lays in ‘desirability’ and ‘enticement’. The fashion pack entices onlookers to copy them and makes them feel it might actually be possible whereas, Rihanna or Lad Gaga are too avant-garde and show stopping in their get togethers that people see their outfits as show pieces only, rather then something they can emulate. This is why the fashion pack has done many campaigns on their own, just look at Julia Restorin-Roitfeld  (Vogue Paris editor Carrine Roitfeld’s daughter) in Tom Ford’s fragrance advertisement and The Richard sisters (Keith Richard’s daughters) in Mango campaign. Just to name a few.There’s no ending in us following the fashion pack’s every move!

My morning usually starts with me doing 5 different things at once, until eventually I focus on one. For example, this morning I was having breakfast, while checking my mail, getting dressed and watching “Les Poupées Russes” – the follow-up movie to “L’Auberge Espagnole” (haven’t seen that yet).

As I was starting to settle into the movie, my mind started wandering to Russian dolls, and I started remembering how captivating they are – both visually and metaphorically. I’ve always been fascinated by their intricate illustrations and how perfectly they fit into each other. So I started googling, while still doing all the other things.

In Russia, these little dolls are called “Matrioshkas”, and I found some really funky ones that were designed for the 10 year anniversary of Vogue Russia:

Last year, some of fashion’s biggest names teamed up to design Matrioshkas, that were realized and hand-painted by Russian craftsmen. The result was a unique set of Matrioshkas, each “a piece of art in itself,” said Aliona Doletskaya, Russian Vogue’s editor-in-chief. Check out a few of the designs:

You can spot the distinct designers in each of the dolls. It would’ve been cool to see the entire set for each doll – inside out – but doubt there was enough time to implement. Does anyone know where I can find designer knock-offs of these dolls?

One thing i didn’t like about the transformer movie is that sound wave didn’t get alot of time. Hes a major character in the transformer universe hopefully he gets some more burn in the next film.

Hey all, Will back again with another review, this time on the album With Roots Above And Branches Below by The Devil Wears Prada. The album was released on May 5, 2009 under the label Ferret Music.

The music is very metal core, and the screams are a little whiny at some points but are very good. At most points the screams are really incoherent, but if you have the lyrics opened they are really easy to follow. All of the literal music minus the vocals is really good, the drums and the guitar are all really good. The clean vocals also sound really great, they’re kind of like Micheal Jagmin’s vocals from A Skylit Drive only a little lower, and the clean singer looks really young, but he plays some damn good rhythm.

Overall, a really good hardcore album, you should check it out. Here is their song Danger: Wildman. Enjoy!

With three back-to-back-to-back (is that even correct?) Prada purchases, I’m currently on a Prada high. And seeing this duffel bag appearing on the Prada Men’s Spring 2010 runway and backstage (first spotted at Bagaholicboy, congrats for being referenced by Prada: the Book, btw!), it’s like taking another happy pill.

The perforated leather on the bag looks oh so soft, which is suddenly punctuated by the Saffiano leather handles. The color combination on this particular piece is so spot-on too. I see that there’s also a ring for a shoulder strap so the ways of carrying the bag can be doubled in an instant. Let’s see if this bag jumps from the runway and into the stores come first quarter next year. I’m excited.

Wenn Geld knapp wird ist man für jedes Stückchen Luxus dankbar. Auch dann, wenn man sich diesen nur auf  Raten leisten kann. In der TV-Serie “Arme Millionäre” wirds ja vorgezeigt. Denn so schlimm die Situation auch ist, nach außen hin immer den guten Anzug tragen und zeigen, dass man sich selbst niemals aufgibt. Das scheint die Devise zu sein!

Beim Stöbern auf Facebook fällt eine Anzeige auf. “Luxus Bags – hier könnt ihr sie in Raten kaufen.” Fein, das wollte ich schon immer, endlich eine Prada besitzen. Und jetzt wird es möglich. Mit 9 Euro monatlich bin ich mit dabei. In der Welt der Schönen und Reichen. Schließlich las ich ein paar Tage zuvor, dass die Sicherheitsdienste in Hollywood bei den ganz Großen nun gute Umsätze machen. Bedarf gestiegen. Nun, Hollywood und “ganz groß” bin ich wohl nicht. Dafür muss es “Prada” sein. Wer sich jetzt mit Luxus umgibt, fühlt sich reich, und hält der Krise stand.

Es scheint wirklich einen Krisenindikator zu geben. Leisteten sich Frauen in den 20er und 30er Jahren vermehrt knallroten Lippenstift – wird von Estée-Lauder behauptet -, so ist es jetzt vielleicht auch Prada und Co?  Die zitierte Herstellerfirma von Kosmetika behauptet jedenfalls, dass ihr Lippenstiftabsatz schon seit Anfang 2000 auffällig steigt. Nun ja, statt Börsenprognosen zu lesen könnte man sich einmal auf die Verkaufszahlen von Lippenstift und Luxus Bags konzentrieren. Dann gelten keine Ausreden mehr wie: “Man konnte diese Finanzkrise nicht vorhersehen!”
