ඔව්. විපක්‍ෂයේ සියලූ ප‍්‍රධාන දේශපාලන පක්‍ෂවල ඉල්ලීම මත මම පොදු අපේක්‍ෂකයාලෙස ඉදිරිපත් වෙනවා.

විපක්‍ෂයේ පොදු අපේක්‍ෂකයා කවුරුන්ද යන්න රටම බලා සිටි ප‍්‍රශ්නයට ඉහත පිළිතුරු දෙමින්, ජනරාල් සරත් ෆොන්සේක මහතා තමා ජනාධිපතිවරණයට ඉදිරිපත් වන බව කොළඹ ජයික් හිල්ටන් හෝටලයේ අද (29* පැවැති ඔහුගේ ප‍්‍රථම මාධ්‍ය හමුවේදී නිල වශයෙන් ප‍්‍රකාශයට පත් කළේය.

ගාර්දිහේවාගේ සරත් චන්ද්‍රලාල් ෆොන්සේකා වන මම ශ‍්‍රී ලංකා ප‍්‍රජාතාන්ත‍්‍රික සමාජවාදී ජනරජයේ ආණ්ඩුක‍්‍රම ව්‍යවස්ථාවේ 7 වන පරිෙඡ්දයේ 31 වන වගන්තිය ප‍්‍රකාරව 2010 ජනවාරි මස 26 වන දින පැවැත්වීමට නියමිත ජනාධිපතිවරණයේදී ශ‍්‍රී ලංකාවේ පිළිගත් නීතියට අනුකූලව, ලියාපදිංචි ප‍්‍රජාතන්ත‍්‍රවාදී පෙරමුණක් තුළින් ‘හංසයා’ ලාංඡුනයෙන් ඉදිරිපත් වන බව සමස්ත ශ‍්‍රී ලාංකීය ජනතාවට ප‍්‍රකාශ කර සිටින බව ඔහු සිය තීරණය ජාතියට දැනුම් දුන්නේය.

ෆොන්සේකා මහතා මෙසේද කීය.

‘ඔබ ඉතාම මගෙන් පුන පුනා ඉල්ලා සිටි උත්තරය සියළු දෙනා බලා සිටි උත්තරය මේ අවස්ථාවේදී මම ප‍්‍රකාශ කිරීමට කැමතියි. ඔබ දේශපාලනය කරනවාද? ජනාධිපතිවරණයට ඉදිරිපත් වෙනවාද? උත්තරය ඔව්. දේශපානලනය කරනවා. පොදු අපේක්‍ෂකයෙක් ලෙස විරුද්ධ පක්‍ෂයේ සිටින සියලූම ප‍්‍රධාන දේශපාලන පක්‍ෂවල ඉල්ලීම මත මම ජනාධිපතිවරණයට පොදු අපේක්‍ෂකයා ලෙස ඉදිරිපත් වෙනවා.’

‘මං මේ තීරණය ගත්තේ මගේ සුඛ විහරණය ගැන හිතලා නෙවෙයි. මගේ අනාගතය නැත්නම් මගේ සැප පහසුකම් ගැන හිතලා නෙවෙයි. අනිවාර්යයෙන්ම මම මේ තීරණය ගත්තේ අවුරුදු 40 ක රජයේ රාජකාරියක් කිරීමෙන් පසු යුනිෆෝම් එකක් ඇඳලා ඉඳලා ඒ යුනිෆෝම් එක ගලවලා යන්න ඉස්සෙල්ලා අවසාන කාලයේ රජයේ භාර¥ර වැදගත් කාර්යයකින් තොරව, වගකීම් වලින් තොරව නිකං කාලය ගත කිරීමේ තේරුමක් නැති නිසා මං හිතුවා රටට සේවයක් කිරීමට, රටේ අනාගතය තහවුරු කිරීමට රටේ නිදහස, ප‍්‍රජාතන්ත‍්‍රවාදය තහවුරු කිරීමට මම ඉදිරිපත් විය යුතුයි කියලා.’

‘රටට වෙන විනාශය මට බලා ගෙන ඉන්න බැරුව ගියා. මේ රටට වෙන පරිහානිය රටේ කළ ¥ෂණය, නාස්තිය ප‍්‍රජාතන්ත‍්‍රවාදයට සිදුවෙන හානිය තර්ජනය මාධ්‍ය නිදහස නැතිව යෑම, මතු පරපුරට හොඳ ආරක්‍ෂිත අනාගතයක් ගොඩනැගීම, සාමය රැුකීම වැනිදේ ප‍්‍රමුඛත්වයට තබාගෙන මං මේ තත්ත්වයට මුහුණදීමට තීරණය කරා. 

‘ඔබ සැමට මතක ඇති මම හමුදාපති වශයෙන් සිටින කාලයේ අවුරුදු 4 කට මදක් අඩු කාලයක් ඒ රාජකාරියේ යෙදී සිටියා. මම පොරොන්දු දෙකක් දුන්නා. පළවෙනි පොරොන්දුව මගෙන් පසුව මෙම යුද්ධය තවත් හමුදාපති කෙනෙකුට ඉතිරි කරන්නේ නෑ කියලා. මම ඒ පොරොන්දුව අකුරටම ඉෂ්ට කළා. දෙවෙනි පොරොන්දුව ගිය වර්ෂයේ නොවැම්බර් මාසයේ මම ප‍්‍රකාශයක් කළා මීට මතු ප‍්‍රභාකරන් කියන ත‍්‍රස්තවාදී නායකයාට නැවතත් මහාවීර දිනයක් අමතන්න මම ඉඩතියන් නෑ කියලා. ඒ පොරොන්දුවත් මම අකුරටම ඉෂ්ට කළා. මේ නොවැම්බර් මාසයේ 27 වෙනිදට යෙදිලා තිබුණ ඒ ප‍්‍රභාකරන්ගේ මහා වීර කතාව ඔබට අහන්න හම්බවුනේ නෑ. ඔබට මම මෙයින් පවසා සිටින්නේ මේ මම පොරොන්දු දුන්නොතින් ඒ පොරොන්දු අකුරටම ඉෂ්ට කරන පුද්ගලයෙක් හැටියට කරුණාකරලා මාව හඳුනාගන්නා හැටියට.’

‘පහුගිය කාලයේ ලබපු මේ යුද ජයග‍්‍රහණය ඒ ජයග‍්‍රහණයන් ලැබුවේ ඔබලා බලාපොරොත්තු වුණ රටට අවශ්‍ය සාමය ලඟාකර දුන් යුද ජයග‍්‍රහණය ලැබුවේ අනිවාර්යයෙන්ම ඒ යුද්ධයට මුහුණ දුන්න වීරෝධාර නිලධාරීන්ගෙත් වීරෝධාර සෙබලූන්ගේත් කැපවීම සහ නිර්භීතභාවය නිසයි. ඒ ජයග‍්‍රහණයේ ගෞරවය යම් කිසි කොටසක් විශාල ප‍්‍රමාණයක් මහජනතාවට අනිවාර්යයෙන්ම අයිති වෙනවා. මහජනතාව ඒ දීපු සහයෝගය අපිට ලැබුනෙ නැත්නම් ඒ ජයග‍්‍රහණය කරා අපට යන්න හම්බවෙන් නෑ. මම හැමවෙලේම මතක් කරපු දෙයක් තමයි තරුණයින් ලක්‍ෂ ගණනින් හමුදාවට බැඳුනා. අලූත් සාමාජිකයින් මේ මහජනතාව අතරින් පැමිණ නොසිටින්නට මේ ජයග‍්‍රහණය අපට කවදාවත් ලබාගන්න හම්බවෙන්නෑ. එම ජයග‍්‍රහණයේ ප‍්‍රධාන කොටස්කාරයෙක් හැටියට ලක්‍ෂ දෙකක යුද හමුදාවක් මෙහෙයවමින් ජයග‍්‍රහණය කරා ගමන් කරවීමට හමුදාව මෙහෙයවීමට ලැබීම ගැන මම ඉතා නිහතමානීව ආඩම්බර වෙනවා. නමුත් මම ඒ ජයග‍්‍රහණයට ඇත්ත වශයෙන්ම සාර්ථකව දායකත්වයක් දුන් කිසිම කෙනෙක්ගේ ඒක උදුරා ගැනීමට තැත්කිරීමට හෝ ඒ ජයග‍්‍රහණය මතින් මම වීරයෙක් වීමට හෝ මම රජතුමෙක් වීමට උත්සාහ කරන්නේ නෑ.’

‘ජයග‍්‍රහණයේ යම් කිසි කොටසක් අනිවාර්යයෙන්ම දේශපාලනඥයින්ට දේශපාලන තීන්දු මත හිමි වෙනවා. නමුත් මම තදින්ම පිළිගන්නවා මේ රටේ හිටපු සියළුම රාජ්‍ය නායකයින් හට එක වගේම උනන්දුවක් අවශ්‍යතාවයක් තිබුණා මෙම යුද්ධය ජයග‍්‍රහණය කරලා මේ රට ත‍්‍රස්තවාදයෙන් බේරා ගන්න. ඒ අවස්ථාවල හමුදාමය අංශයන්ගෙන් ඇතිවුණ පසුබෑම නිසයි ඒ දෙය රාජ්‍ය නායකයින්ට ඒ කාර්යභාරය ඉෂ්ට කරගන්න බැරිවුණේ. අපි ලබපු ජයග‍්‍රහණය ස්ථීර වෙන්න වෙන්න තමයි විදේශ බලපෑම් ආදිය ආවේ. අතීතයේ සිටපු රාජ්‍ය නායකයින්ටත් විදේශ බලපෑම්වලට මුහුණ දෙන්න තිබුණා. අපි ප‍්‍රභාකරන් යන ත‍්‍රස්තවාදියා අවසාන කිලෝමීටර් 20 – 30 ට කොටු කරා නම් මේ අවස්ථාවේ ඒ ප‍්‍රශ්නය වැඩි වුණේ අපි හමුදාව ඒ රාජකාරිය හරියට ඉෂ්ට කර නිසයි. නැතිනම් සියලූම රාජ්‍ය නායකයින් සියලූම රජයන්ට අතීතයේ තිබුණත් දැන් පවතින රජයට වගේම ඒකම අවශ්‍යතාව සහ උනන්දුව හා කැපවීම තිබුණා මේ ප‍්‍රශ්නයෙන් රට බේරා ගැනීමට.’

‘අපි මේ යුද්ධය කළේ එක ජනකොට්ඨාශයකට විරුද්ධව කරපු දෙයක් නෙවේ. මේ යුද්ධය අපි කරේ දෙමළ ජනතාවට හෝ උතුරු නැගෙනහිර ජනතාවට විරුද්ධව කරපු යුද්ධයක් නෙවේ. මේ යුද්ධය අපි කරේ ත‍්‍රස්තවාදීන්ට විරුද්ධවයි. ත‍්‍රස්තවාදී ග‍්‍රහණයෙන් රට, ජාතිය, අගම් සියළුම ජාතීන් බේරා ගැනීම සඳහායි. ඒක හන්දා කිසිම කෙනෙක් වැරදි අර්ථකථනයක් දියයුතු නෑ මේ යුද්ධය කළේ යම් කිසි ජනකොට්ඨාශයක් විශේෂයෙන්ම ද්‍රවිඩ ජනකොට්ඨාශය පීඩාවට පත්කිරීමට කියලා. ඇත්ත වශයෙන්ම අපි කරේ ත‍්‍රස්තවාදීන් විනාශ කරලා ඒ ද්‍රවිඩ ජනකොට්ඨාශය ඒ හිටපු දුක්ඛිත පීඩිත තත්ත්වයෙන් මුදා ගැනීමයි. ඒ ද්‍රවිඩ ජන කොට්ඨාශයේ අනාගත පරපුරට නිදහසේ සාමයෙන් ජීවත් වීමට හැකි පරිසරයක් ගොඩ නැගීමයි. ඒ උතුර නැගෙනහිර භූමිය ත‍්‍රස්තවාදයෙන් මුදවා ගැනීමයි. එපමණක් නෙවෙයි උතුරු නැගෙනහිර තිබුණ පූජ්‍ය ස්ථාන විශේෂයෙන්ම මඩු දේවස්ථානය වැනි ස්ථාන දීර්ඝ කාලයකට පස්සේ අපි ත‍්‍රස්තවාදී ග‍්‍රහණයෙන් බේරාගෙන මහජනතාවට වැදපුදා ගැනීමට හැකි අවස්ථාවක් සලසා දුන්නා. ඒ ගැන අපි ඉතා හද පතුලෙන් සෑහීමකට පත්වෙනවා. සතුටට පත්වෙනවා.’

‘දැන් ඒ අතරින් අපි විසඳුම් සොයාගෙන ගිහිල්ලා. සාමය කරා ගමන් කරලා ජාතික සමඟිය ගොඩනැගීමට කි‍්‍රයා කළ යුතුයි. රටේ අවශ්‍යතාවය, ජාතික සමඟිය, සියලූම ජාතීන් අතර සුහදව සාමයෙන් ජීවත් විය හැකි වටරාමුවක අපගේ ජාතිය ගොඩ නැගීමයි.’

‘දැනට පවතින රජය අපි මුදාගත් ප‍්‍රදේශවල හිටපු ද්‍රවිඩ ජනතාවට සලකපු ආකාරය ගැන මම සෑහීමකට පත්වන්නෑ. එම ජනතාව අපි ඉතා කැපවීම් කරලා ලක්‍ෂ තුනකට ආසන්න ද්‍රවිඩ ජනතාවක් ත‍්‍රස්තවාදී ග‍්‍රහණයෙන් බේර ගත්තා නමුත් හමුදා අයවලූන් ඉන් පසුව බලාපොරොත්තු වුණේ නෑ එම මුදාගත් අසරණ ජනතාව දුක්ඛිත තත්ත්වයකට පත්කරලා, කඳවුරුවල කොටුකරලා තියාගෙන සැප පහසුකම්වලින් තොරව ඉතාම වේදනාකාරීව ජීවත් වීමට යොමු කිරීමට. මම විශ්වාස කරනවා ඒ මුදා ගත් ජනතාවට සාධාරණයක් ඉෂ්ට කිරීමට රජයට හැකිවුණේ නෑ. ඒ ජනතාවගේ පහසුකම් ඒගොල්ලොන්ට අවශ්‍ය මූලික අවශ්‍යතාවයන් සපුරාලීමට රජය උනන්දු වුනේ නෑ. ඒකත් හමුදාවල ශක්තියෙන් තමයි ඒ ජනතාව හැකිතාක් දුරට හෝ බලා ගත්තේ. ඒකහන්දා ඒ අඩුපාඩුව මම හෙළා දකිනවා. ඒ ජනතාවගේ අවශ්‍යතාවයන් ඉදිරියටත් බලා ගත යුතුයි. ඒ ජනතාව නැවත පදිංචි කිරීමේදී ඒ ගොල්ලන්ට අවශ්‍ය යටිතල පහසුකම් සපයා, බිම් බෝම්බ ඉවත් කර ආරක්‍ෂා සහිතව නැවත පදිංචි කරවිය යුතුයි. දේශපාලන පටු අරමුණු මුදුන් පමුණුවා ගැනීම සඳහා ඒ අය නැවත පදිංචි කරවීම සිදු නොකළ යුතුයි. එය සිදු කළ යුත්තේ අවංක චේතනාවකින් පමණයි.

දැනට පවතින රජය යුද ජයග‍්‍රහණයේ නියම ඵල නෙලා ගත්තේ නෑ. අපි යුද්ධය කරන අතරේ මේ යුද්ධයේ මුවාවෙන් මේ රජයේ රාජ්‍ය නායකයින් තමාට සේවයක් කර ගැනීමට උත්සාහ කළා. අපි යුද්ධ කළේ රට බේරා ගැනීමට මිසක් සියලූම හමුදා පොලීසියේ සහාය ඇතුව ග‍්‍රාමාරක්‍ෂක සිවිල් ආරක්‍ෂක නිලධාරින්ගේ සහාය ඇතුව පහුගිය කාලයේ තිබුණ සටන මෙහෙයවලා රට මුදා ගත්තේ රටේ සුබසිද්ධිය සඳහා මිසක් එක පවුලක සුබසිද්ධිය සඳහා නෙවේ. නමුත් අවසානයේ අපට පෙනුණු දෙයක් තමයි ඒ ලබාගත් ජයග‍්‍රහණයේ ඵල නෙලා ගැනීම අමතක කරලා එක පවුලක අභිවෘද්ධිය සඳහා රාජ්‍ය නායකයා කටයුතු කරනවා. ඒක අපි හෙළා දකිනවා. ඒ කටයුතු කිරීම තුලින් ඔවුන්ගේ කැපවීමක් රහිත භාවය, රටට ආදරයක් නැති භාවය, රටේ ජනතාවට ආදරයන් නැති භාවය මනාවට ඔප්පු කරලා තියෙනවා.

ඒ කරපු කැපවීම්වල විශාල පරිමාණයේ කැපවීම් කරලා ති‍්‍රවිධ හමුදා සහ සියලූම ආරක්‍ෂක හමුදා ලබාගත් ජයග‍්‍රහණයේ ඵල නෙලා නොගැනීම එම ජයග‍්‍රහණයෙන් රාජ්‍ය නායකයා සහ පවුලේ අය පමණක් ගොඩවීමට උත්සාහ දැරීමට අපට දරාගත නොහැකි ඉතාම කළ කිරීමට පත්කරවන සුළු තත්ත්වයක් ඇතිකරලා තියෙනවා. ඒ තත්ත්වයේ මත සිට තමයි මම ඉදිරියට රටට සේවය කිරීමට මේ තත්ත්වයෙන් රට මුදා ගැනීමට, දේශපාලන කිරීමට අදහස් කළේ.

මේ කුණු ඉවත් කිරීමට යෑමේදී, මං දන්නවා කුණු ඉවත්කරන්නට යන අයගේ අත්වල කුණු ගෑවෙනවා. කණගාටුවෙන් උනත් මට ඒ තත්ත්වයට මූණ දෙන්න වෙනවා. කුණු කන්දල් ගොඩනගාගෙන ඉන්නවා රජය ඒ කුණු කන්ද ඉවත්කරන්නට යෑමේදී අපේ ඇගේ කුණු ගෑවෙනවා ඔබටත් පේනවා අපට දැනට මඩ ගහනවා, චරිත ඝාතනය කරනවා, ඒ තත්ත්වයට කණගාටුවෙන් උනත් මුහුණ දෙන්න මම නිර්භීතව නිර්භයව ඉදිරිපත් වෙනවා.

මෙම රජය ඉතාමත් සදාචාරාත්මක නොවන විදියට හමුදාව දේශපාලණීයකරනය කරමින් සිටිනවා දැනට. ඒක මම ලංකාවේ සිටපු මෙතෙක් කාලයට බිහිවූ ජ්‍යෙෂ්ඨම නිලය අදිමින් හමුදාවේ සේවය කළ නිලධාරියා හැටියට ඒක මම ඉතාම තදින් හෙළා දකිනවා. හමුදා නිලධාරීන් නිල ඇඳුමින් ගෙනැල්ලා මාධ්‍ය තුළින් ඉදිරිපත් කරලා දේශපාලන අරමුණු ඉෂ්ට කරගන්න හදනවා. ඔබට ඒක ඉතා පැහැදිලිව පේනවා ඇති. හමුදා නිලධාරීන් වක‍්‍රව දේශපාලන අරමුණු ඉෂ්ට කර ගැනීමට යොදවනවා. රණවිරුවන් යොදවලා දේශපාලන අරමුණු ඉෂ්ට කර ගන්න හදනවා. රණවිරුවන් නොමග යවමින්, ආබාධිත තත්ත්වයට පත්වූ රණවිරුවන් යුද හමුදාවෙන් ඉවත්වගොස් සිටින රණවිරුවන් වැරදි ආකාරයට පාවිච්චි කරමින් දේශපාලන අරමුණු ඉෂ්ට කරගන්න හදනවා. ඒ තත්ත්වය මම අනිවාර්යයෙන්ම හෙළා දකිනවා. එය සදාචාරාත්මක නෑ. සියලූ දෙනාම එය තේරුම් ගත යුතුයි.

මං මේ තත්ත්වයට අවතීර්ණය වුණේ දේශපාලනඥයකුවීමේ අභිමතාර්ථයෙන්ම නෙවේ. මේ රටේ ප‍්‍රජාතන්ත‍්‍රවාදය ස්ථාපිත කිරීමට මගෙන් යම්කිසි සේවයක් විය යුතුය කියා මම සිතමු නිසයි. සියලූම ජාතීන්ගේ ආරක්‍ෂාව සුරැුකීමට මම යම්කිසි සේවයක් යම් කිසි පියවරක් ගත යුතුයි එය මගේ වගකීමක් කියලා සිතුන නිසයි. ත‍්‍රස්තවාදීන් විනාශ කරලා ත‍්‍රස්තවාදී ග‍්‍රහණයෙන් රට මුදාගෙන ඒකාධිපතියකුට රට බාරදීමට මං හිතන්නෑ අපි ඉඩ තියලා නිශ්ශබ්දව සිටිය යුතුයි කියලා. ඒකාධිපතිවාදය විධායක ජනාධිපති ධූරය පිටුපස සැගවී සිට ඒකාධිපතිවාදයක් ගෙන යෑමට කිසිවකුට ඉඩදිය යුතු නෑ. ඒක නිසා ඒ තත්ත්වය යටතේ මට අකමැත්තෙන් හෝ පැකිලෙමින් හෝ දේශපාලනයට අවතීරණය වෙන්න සිද්ධ වුණා.

එය ඔබ සැම කරුණාකර වටහා ගනී කියා මා සිතනවා.

මා පුද්ගලිකව හිතනවා මට අවස්ථාවක් ලැබෙනව නම් මේ රටේ දේශපාලන සංස්කෘතිය වෙනස් කරන්න අවස්ථාව ලැබෙනව නම් මම මේ අවස්ථාව කොයිම වෙලාවකවත් පැහැර හරින්නෙ නෑ. ප‍්‍රජාතන්ත‍්‍රවාදී රටක දේශපාලන පක්‍ෂ තිබිය යුතු වග මා පිළිගන්නවා. රජයක් සහ විරුද්ධ පක්‍ෂ නමුත් වෛරී දේශපාලනය මඩ ගැසීමේ දේශපාලනය පළි ගැනීමේ දේශපාලනය මං තදින් හෙළා දකිනවා. මම පුද්ගලිකව හිතනවා දියුණු රටවල්වල හැටියට මේ රටේත් එකම නිවසේ එකම පවුලේ ස්වාමියාට සහ බිරිඳට පක්‍ෂ දෙකකට ඡුන්දය දීලා එකට කෑම මේසයේ වාඩි වෙලා කාලා සාමයෙන් ගත කරන්න පුළුවන් නම් ඒක තමයි දේශපාලන නිදහස කියන්නේ. ඊට පස්සේ ගෙදර ඇව්ල්ලා ගහගන්න අවශ්‍ය නෑ. පිඟන් වීසි කරලා පුටු වීසි කරලා. එවැනි අවබෝධයක් තිබිය යුතුයි නියම දේශපාලනය තියෙන රටක් හැටියට පිළිගන්න නම්. අසල්වැසින්ට පක්‍ෂ දෙහෙකට ඡුන්දය දීලා ඊට පස්සේ සමගියෙන් කාලය ගත කිරීමට හැකි විය යුතුයි. ඒක තමයි මා බලාපොරොත්තු වෙන ප‍්‍රාර්ථනා කරන දේශපාලන සංස්කෘතිය.

ඒ අනුව මම සියලූම රටවැසියන්ගෙන් ඉල්ලා සිටින්නේ යහපාලනය ඇති කිරීමට මට ජනවරමක් ලබාදෙන ලෙසයි. යහපාලනය ඇති කිරීමට මට ජනවරමක් ලබාදෙන්න. රටට වින කරපු විධායක ජනාධිපති ක‍්‍රමය අහෝසි කිරීමට මට ජනවරමක් ලබාදෙන්න. මහජනයාගේ කරපිටින් අවතීර්ණය වෙලා මහජනයාට බොරු පොරොන්දු දී විධායක ජනාධිපති ධූරය ලබාගෙන ඒ ජනාධිපති ධූරයේ සිටිමින් රටට වින කරමින් කාලය ගත කරන ජනාධිපතිවරයකු වීමට මට අවශ්‍ය නෑ. දැනට සිටින ජනාධිපතිතුමා එවැනි පොරොන්දු දී එම ධූරයේ තැන්පත්වී නමුත් ඉතාම ගුණමකු ලෙසින් මහජනයා බලාපොරොත්තු වූ දේ අමතක කරමින් රාජකාරි කරනවා. ඒ තත්ත්වය මම තදින් හෙළා දකිනවා. විධායක ජනාධිපති ධූරය අහෝසි විය යුතුයි. ඒකාධිපති ජනාධිපති කෙනෙක්ගෙන් මේ රටට කිසිම සේවයක් කවදාවත් සිදුවන්නේ නෑ.

මම බලයට පත්වූ විට ඒ ගැන වඩාත් විශ්වාසය තියෙනවා. ඔබ සැමගේ සහයෝගය අද සිට එක පුද්ගලයෙකුට රට විනාශ කිරීමට ඇති හැකියාව නැති කරනවා. මහජනතාවට වග කියන පාර්ලිමේන්තුවකට බලය පැවරීමට හැකි ව්‍යවස්ථාවක් ඇති කිරීමට බලාපොරොත්තු වෙනවා. මහජනතාවට වග කියන පාර්ලිමේන්තු මන්ත‍්‍රීවරුන්ගෙන් සමන්විත මහජනතාවට වගකියන බලය සහිත පාර්ලිමේන්තුවක් ඇති කිරීමට කි‍්‍රයා කරනවා.

බලයට පැමිණි වහාම 17 වන සංශෝධනය කි‍්‍රයාත්මක කිරීමට අවශ්‍ය පියවර ගන්නවා. ඒ යටතේ අවශ්‍ය නිදහස් කමිටු ස්ථාපනය කොට ව්‍යවස්ථා සභාව ඇති කිරීමට අවශ්‍ය පියවර ගන්නවා. මෙතෙක් කල් එම පියවර ගැනීමට පමා වී තියෙන්නේ ව්‍යවස්ථා සභාවේ කමිටු පත් කිරීම ඇන හිට තියෙන්නේ ජනාධිපතිතුමාගේ අත්සන ලබාගැනීමට නොහැකි වීම මතයි. ඒ තත්ත්වය මග හැර ඉතාම වහාම ජනාධිපතිවරණයෙන් පසු මම එය කි‍්‍රයාවට යෙදීමට බලාපොරොත්තු වෙනවා. ඒක කඩ නොවෙන පොරොන්දුවක්.

ජයග‍්‍රහණයෙන් පසු පාර්ලිමේන්තු ඡුන්දය පවත්වා තුනෙන් දෙකක බලය ලබාගෙන හැකි වහාම නිසි වේලාවට එම බලය ලබාගෙන ව්‍යවස්ථා සංශෝධනය කිරීමට අවශ්‍ය පියවර ගන්නවා. අනිවාර්යයෙන්ම ඒ අවශ්‍ය පියවර බලය සහයෝගය ලබාගැනීමට හැකිවේ කියා මට විශ්වාසයි. විරුද්ධ පක්‍ෂයේ සිටින මැති අමැතිවරුන් පමණක් නෙවෙයි රජයේ සිටින මැති ඇමැතිවරුනුත් ඒකට සහයෝගය දෙන බව මට විශ්වාසයි. දැනටමත් මේ රජයේ සිටින මැති ඇමැතිවරු විශාල සංඛ්‍යාවක් අපට සහයෝගය දීමට ඉදිරිපත්වී සිටිනවා. එළිපිට කතාකරන්න පුද්ගලික හේතූන් මත ඒ කට්ටිය අකමැති වුණත්.

අතීතයේදී විධායක ජනාධිපති ක‍්‍රමය ඉවත් කරනා බවට නොයෙකුත් පොරොන්දු දුන්නත් ඒ පොරොන්දු කිසිම වෙලාවක ඉෂ්ට වුණේ නෑ. මම විනය ගරුකව රාජකාරි කර, අකුරටම මගේ රාජකාරිය ඉෂ්ට කර අවුරුදු 40 ක හමුදා සේවයක් සහිත විශ‍්‍රම ගිය හමුදා නිලධාරියෙක්. ඒක හන්දා ඒ ලබාගත්ත පන්නරය තුළින් දෙන පොරොන්දු ඉෂ්ට කිරීම වගකීම් ඉෂ්ට කිරීම යන ස්ථාවරයේ ඉඳලා මම මේ දෙන පොරොන්දුව මම අනිවාර්යයෙන්ම ඉෂ්ට කරනවා.

රටේ විනය ඇති කිරීමට සහ පොරොන්දු ඉෂ්ට කරන දේශපාලනයක් ඇති කිරීමට අවශ්‍ය අඩිතාලම දමමින් රට ඉදිරියට ගෙන යෑමට බලාපොරොත්තු වෙනවා. මට රජ පවුලක් ගොඩ නැගීමට අවශ්‍ය නෑ. මගේ පවුල දැන් ඉන්න තත්ත්වයෙන් ජීවත් වෙනවා කියන එක දැකීම තමයි මගේ අනාගත බලාපොරොත්තුව. අත් පිරිසුදුයි. ඒවට මඩ ගැසීමට පටු දේශපාලන මතිමතාන්තර මත සිට උත්සාහ කලත් අවුරුදු 40 ක තිබුණු පිරිසුදු හමුදා නිලධාරියකුගේ චරිතය මා හිතන්නෑ මඩ ගැසීම තුළින් දැන් දුර්මුඛ කරන්න එහෙම නැත්නම් ඒතට අපහාස කරන්න හැකි වෙයි කියලා. මගේ අත් පිරිසුදු බව මං දන්නවා මා යටතේ සේවය කළ සියලූම දෙනා සියලූම අවස්ථාවල ඒක ඒකමතිකව පිළිගන්න දෙයක් ඉදිරියටත් මම ඒ පිරිසුදු බව රැුක ගැනීමට කි‍්‍රයා කරනවා. රට ජාතිය ආගම වෙනුවෙන්.

දැනට පවතින රජය ඡුන්දය දිනීම සඳහා ඉතා පහත් ක‍්‍රම අනුගමනය කරන වග ඔබට දැනටමත් පෙනී යනවා ඇති අපි එවැනි ක‍්‍රම අනුකරණය කිරීමට හෝ එවැනි ක‍්‍රම ඉදිරියට ගෙන යෑමට කිසිම බලාපොරොත්තුවක් නෑ. මඩ ගැසීම්, චරිත ඝාතනය කිරීමට විශාල ප‍්‍රයත්නයක යෙදී සිටිනවා. සමහර හමුදා නිලධාරීන් මාධ්‍ය ගෙනැල්ලා නොයෙක් ප‍්‍රකාශ කරනවා. ඒ හමුදා නිලධාරීන්ම මට මගේ රාජකාරිය අගයලා මම යුද්ධය නිම කිරීමට කළ සේවය අගයලා එවපු සුබපතපු ලිපි ලේඛන මා ගාව තියෙනවා. ඒ ලිපිලේඛන අනාගතයේදි ඔබ සැමට දැකගන්නට පුළුවන් වෙයි. දැනට මා වෙනුවෙන් මඩ ගැසීමට ඉදිරිපත්වී සිටින නිලධාරීන් අතීතයේදී මා ගැන කිව්වේ මොනවාද? ජනාධිපතිතුමා මාගේ යුද හමුදාපති සේවය ගැන කිව්වේ මොනවාද? මම ඕනෑම හමුදාවකට අණදිය හැකි ඕනෑම නූතන හමුදාවකට අණ දිය හැකි හොඳම හමුදාපතිවරයෙක් කියලා ජනාධිපතිතුමාගේ කටින් පහුගිය කාලයේ ප‍්‍රකාශ කළා. ආරක්‍ෂක ලේකම්තුමාගේ කටින් ප‍්‍රකාශ කළා මම ලෝකයේ ඉන්න හොඳම හමුදාපති කියලා ඉන්දියාවේ ආරක්‍ෂක උපදේශකතුමා පැවසූ බව ඒ සියල්ල ඔබට මතක ඇති. ඒ කට්ටියම තමයි දැනට හමුදාපති හැටියට මම සාර්ථක නෑ, මම වැරදි කළා කියලා පවසමින් මට මඩ ගැසීමට උත්සාහ කරන්නේ.

රාත‍්‍රී 8.15 ට පමණ මෙම උත්සවයට සහභාගී වූ ෆොන්සේකා මහතා තමන් යුධ මානසිකත්වයෙන් ඉවත්ව සිවිල් සමාජයට පැමිණ මෙවන් කණ්ඩායමකට දේශපාලන මානසිකත්වයකින් කරන පළමු ඇමතීම නිසා මෙම දිනය කවදාවත් අමතක නොවන බවද පැවසීය.

යුද්ධය දිනූ නමුත්් කිහිප දෙනෙකු විසින් රටපුරා භීෂණයක් පවත්වාගෙන යන බවත් රටේ නීතියක් නැති තත්ත්වයකට පත් කර ඇති බව දැකීමෙන් පසු කලකිරීමක් ඇති වූ බවත්, රටේ බොහෝ දේශපාලන කණ්ඩායම් පැමිණ මෙම තත්ත්වයෙන් රට මුදා ගත යුතුබව කී අතර රටේ දූෂණ වංචා, අස්ථාවර භාවය, දේශය විනාශ කිරීම, මාධ්‍ය නිදහස සුරැුකීම, විධායක බලතල අහෝසි කිරීම ආදී කරුණු කාරනා රැසකට නායකත්වය දීමට තමන් පැමිණි බවත් ෆොන්සේකා මහතා කීය.

ජනතාව මෙම කාරණා සඳහා ජන වරමක් දුනහොත් හමුදාවේ සිටියදී තම රාජකාරිය නිවැරදිව ඉටු කළා සේ ජනතාව විසින් පවරන එම කාර්යයද ඩියුටියක් සේ සලකා අකුරට ඉටු කරන බවත් ජෙනරාල් සරත් ෆොන්සේකා මහතා පැවසීය.

Faced with the utter failure of yet another of his boneheaded, anti-American ally, foreign policy decisions, Obama finally gives up, waves his ever handy white flag, and surrenders to the good guys’ rule of law in Honduras.

Honduras: Obama administration finally and completely abandons Zelaya

The Obama administration’s wishy-washy attitude toward Honduran elections finally lands him on the right side of the issue: in favor of Honduras and its democracy, and against ousted President Manuel Zelaya, who was thrown out after attempting to extend his reign illegally.

The United States says it supports Sunday’s presidential election in Honduras as an “essential” part of a solution to that country’s ongoing political crisis.

State Department spokesman Ian Kelly says the U.S. thinks it is important that the people of Honduras have the opportunity to “express their votes in a free and transparent way.”

…Spokesman Kelly noted that the election, in which neither [Interim President Roberto] Micheletti nor Mr. Zelaya is running, is being organized by an electoral tribunal that was selected and installed in a transparent, democratic process before the coup. He said it is important the election be seen as free, fair and transparent, and is monitored by a credible international monitoring process.

After an Obama knee-jerk reaction to Zelaya’s ouster in June, the U.S. had insisted on Zelaya’s reinstatement. This would have harmed Honduras’s Congress and high court, which had ousted Zelaya, even as it served no discernible U.S. interest. At the same time, Zelaya’s continuation in power would have benefited one of Zelaya’s main allies and alleged sources of funding — Venezuelan strongman Hugo Chavez.

By hanging Zelaya out to dry — leaving him powerless and languishing in the Brazilian Embassy in Tegucigalpa, possibly facing trial for illegally seeking re-election — the administration saves face in Honduras and ultimately does the right thing. The Honduran Congress will vote on Dec. 2, after the next president has been elected, whether to reinstate Zelaya as a lame duck, and with the election already decided, they won’t be under any pressure to do so and reverse their earlier decision.

So all’s well that ends well. But even so, as we recently opined, a happy ending is still no excuse for Obama’s half-cocked diplomacy, and no number of low bows to Honduras’s next president will make up for the damage he has caused there. Again, his legendary inexperience in world matters shows.

Well, ever since the U.S. reversed course and decided to support this Sunday’s November 29th Honduran elections, all the world’s communists, socialists, assorted tin pot dictators and far left loons have been screaming bloody murder.

/what does that tell you about what was the right thing for the United States to do?

My friends in Topeka, Kansas, tell me they have seen a bumper sticker that quotes Psalm 109 in reference to president Obama.  It’s not funny.

Maybe I’m sensitive because of where I live.

I sometimes have coffee in Aggieville and wonder if the ghost of Timothy McVeigh is lurking in the shadows.  Aggieville was the first place America’s worst domestic terrorist was arrested.  It was just a bar room fight when he was a soldier stationed at nearby Fort Riley, but he went on to worse things.

A few years after that incident, McVeigh and his accomplice rented a big white truck and filled up with gas in Riley County  before they drove it to Oklahoma City and killed 19 children at America’s Kid’s Daycare Center, along with 150 adults.

During the nineties fanatics were speaking in apocalyptic terms about the evils of Bill Clinton and his wife.  They were talking about concentration camps in the Southwest and Blackhawk helicopters.  They were painting David Koresh as an innocent victim whose righteous blood called for vengeance.  For most it was just talk.  But Tim McVeigh was listening.

Or maybe it’s the hideous figure of America’s worst living hatemonger, Fred Phelps, whom I sometimes have to drive past.  Fred and family give hate speech a bad name.  In February I attended a conference on the Dead Sea Scrolls at Midwestern Baptist Seminary.  One of the seminary’s graduates had been murdered in church, and Fred and his pitiful band of followers came to picket.

After fifteen years of hate speech directed at physician George Tiller–someone finally listened.  The doctor who performed late-term abortions in Wichita was finally murdered.  It happened on a Sunday morning as he was serving as an usher at his church.

Late term abortion is a gruesome and traumatic procedure–and sometimes a tragic necessity.  Under Kansas law at the time Dr. Tiller was murdered, it was legal only when the mother’s health was endangered.  The law was not strict enough for some, but too strict for others.  But my point is this–murder was not the answer; but people kept chanting “Tiller the Killer” until someone took it seriously.

We have a peaceful way of changing national leaders every four years.  In the meantime, the Bible tells us to pray for our leaders–it doesn’t tell us to take a curse out of context and pray it.  You are entitled to your political opinions–but think about the effects of hate speech:

1. It may set off an unbalanced person.
2. It reflects on all Christians and makes us look like ignorant bigots.

In Romans 2:24 Paul quotes from Isaiah, in a passage referring to the people God chose to represent his love and goodness to the world–

God’s name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.

How about that for a bumper sticker?

In 2006, after the governor’s election I noted signs of a “new warm and fuzzy T-Paw.” The newly (narrowly) re-elected Guv was acknowledging global warming, advocating extending healthcare and working constructively with unions. Well, no surprise that with T-Paw now in the Republican presidential primary field he is becoming a lot less warm and fuzzy and making a clear shift to the right. Here’s a snapshot comparing things I pointed out in 2006:

Global Warming
2006 – T-Paw introduces his bold “Next Generation Energy Initiative” which he signed into law in 2007 – and included aggressive goals for reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in Minnesota.

2009 – T-Paw backs away from any acknlowedgment that human activity contributes to climate change and says Cap and Trade plans to reduce greenhouse emissions would wreck the national economy. (Think Progress and The American Spectator note the change)

Healthcare Reform
2006 – T-Paw does “about face on health care” . . . says he wants to extend health insurance coverage to all Minnesota children.

2009 – T-Paw shifts his healthcare rhetoric from helping ininsured children to . . . I don’t know . . .he sounds more like Palin. Here’s how he’s describing the current care reform proposals

“It’s rare for Congress to work on weekends, but even rarer that a bill this anti-freedom comes along, it’s anti-freedom because it raises taxes, it’s anti-freedom because it explodes bureaucracy. And it’s anti-freedom because it puts government in charge of health care decisions.”

Making Nice With Unions
2006 – T-Paw gives state employees, an unprompted, a one-time health insurance premium “holiday” due to an excess surplus in the Minnesota . . .”

2009 – T-Paw (in 2008 actually) vetoes resolution backing Employee Free Choice Act.

These things are really no surprise . . it’s common for presidential candidates to have to move toward the more extreme parts of their party to secure a nomination, but it’s still important to hold them accountable when a change in position is due to political pandering rather than a thoughtful consideration of the issues. You can make your own decision on T-Paw’s motives . . . just don’t expect T-Paw to be warm and fuzzy anymore.

My Friend from high school, Richard Harwood heads up the Harwood Institute in D.C. One of his many focuses is traveling the country asking fellow citizens why they aren’t more involved on any level, with the Government that effects their lives. I would think one answer he may hear a lot is that we have lost hope that our efforts count, that our opinions count. We have by and large circled the wagons in our lives. We go to work, come home, maybe church, maybe some type of getaway, camping, running, sailing. Even when we get home we tend to isolate a little. Our decks and outdoor living are in the backs of our houses. We cast a vote, mind our own business, and some of us secretly wish we did things in a better way.

We’ve heard alot about the word Hope in the months preceeding the Presidential Election. The great hope! We all know how the media and campaigns likes to tag a word like hope. What a great word to hinge emotions on. Hell, who doesn’t like that word? Hope, yeah I’ll take some of that. It’s like air. Want some? well ,yeah, kinda need it. We need hope. Without it, our lives would be pretty dismal.

We can hope to be better friends, being the friend to make the call and not wait for the call. Better children. Sure, now that I have children, it makes me want to be a better, more loving, thoughtful son to my parents, who gave me so much. Hope to be a better spouse ! That ones touchy with some of us. But I have begun to learn that if I’m a better spouse, I’ll have a better spouse ! Who’d have figured that one?. Then we have the hope for the more etherial things. Contentment, happiness, peace, less illness, less violence. The list goes on forever. Sometimes it’s as simple as hoping for a sunny day. Other times when we’re quiet we’re just hoping to catch a glimpse of understanding of what all of this “life” means.

The Harwood Institute is just encouraging us to remember that we matter. Each one of us, each thought, each deed matters. To do something. Not to sit back and criticize everything. That’s where the rub comes in. Maybe that’s where we as a people get immobilized, for what do we do? Where do we pitch our tent? For that matter who and what do we believe. The more you try to learn the more confused you get. Don’t you?, I sure do. Everyone has an angle, therefore each person will tell it to you as they see it. It seems as if it’s the big shell game and after a while you just throw your hands up, have a beer, and let “those guys” battle it out. Bad choice, sure, but what else can you do. Maybe some people simply have the type of DNA to be involved, leaders, people that want to affect things for everyone. Others don’t share that DNA, that weren’t brought up  that way, and they try to live their lives quietly, raising their children to be good. To be solid. Maybe it takes a little of all of us. Some kind of weird, physic karma thing!

President Obama was a welcomed sight for me. He did offer hope in ways I hope our country would be represented. A more global approach and one that the United States was a part of. A strong, healthy part, but not that everything must be based our ideas. I don’t agree with all he does, but I appreciate the public image, and I guess I will have to start there. There is a saying I heard a while back that says “Hope Never Fails”. That is easy for me to believe. All else will be sorted out through time. I pray you and I will continue to keep hope in our hearts and kind words on our tongues.

In the morning of hearing Ms. Palin’s coin conspiracy, my 5 yrs old Kindergartner and I practiced “Kindergarten Math” using coins. The kind of addition and deduction thingy. We called it “Penny Conspiracy.”

I read that Ms. Sarah Palin is going to wage a “War against “New Class” of intellectuals, government bureaucrats…and parasitic elites.” (Reference: Jacob Heilbrunn, “Sarah palin’s Slap Shot,” http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jacob-heilbrunn/sarah-palins-slap-shot_b_357178.html)

My first response was a sigh…. Holly s…….sheep (goat or cow, by the way, God bless Ms. Palin! If she is meant to be).

In respect to the official, surfacial bipartisan standpoint of Gop and Dem, I’d respect any presidential candidates from any political parties, as far as they are qualified for the JOB and have sincere mind, political talents, and put up hard work on themselves to qualify for.

If Ms. Palin is serious about running for Presidency, I would expect her to do her best to equip, surround herself with qualified advisors, experts, and educate/train herself to get ready for the next bid !

Instead, I am hearing that she is planning to wage a “Class War” against people who went colleges, read about issues more than usual folks, educated themselves more than usual, and raise their voices on social, political issues more than usual. I hear that she is planning this war in the midst of recession, along with endless numbers of insurmountable international and domestic conflicts. She wants to do it like there are few problems in this country, so it’s necessary to create one to energize it?

After the disastrous former presidency, even simple-minded folks, who voted for beer-buddy-looking candidate, said that they don’t want President who acts like them and stammers in middle sentences. They declare that they want President who doesn’t look like them, a non-stammer, “the one” who is able to handle the complicate JOB of being President, wanting not to be pushed into another  “RECESSION” !

Even when ordinary folks changed their mind and prefer non-stammering President, Ms. Palin talks about waging a war against non-stammering politician folks (in professional terms, are they called “new class” intellectuals?)?

Instead of working hard on training and teaching herself for the BIG JOB, are we expected to see Ms. Palin waste her time on this kind of MISSION? Isn’t she expected to be a “Uniter” of the country, instead of being a “Divider.”Also, arn”t there enough serious international and domestic problems that U.S. is facing now?

Instead of solving them, Ms. Palin wants to create, add one more problem?

The most powerful symbol perhaps for the Filipino as a nation is the yellow ribbon tied to Ninoy Aquino and then to the fight that Tita Cory continued to her deathbed.  According to a story published in the Inquirer, it was a friend of the Aquino’s that thought of using the song “Tie a Yellow Ribbon” since it has really been many years since Ninoy has left the country. 

Then they started tying yellow ribbons in the trees along the avenues.  This  same symbol is  carried by Noynoy, the Aquino who is running for President. The most contentious of the issues that he faces is the massacre  of 12 protesting farmers and 2 children in the Cojuangco-owned Hacienda Luisita  over a dispute in a collective bargaining agreement with the United Luisita Workers Union (ULWU).

Knowing that this is going to be a stinging pain in his ass, Noynoy recently announced that they are planning to give up their shares. That doesn’t change a thing. His silence when he was Senator makes questions his ability to render justice for the poor. Not all forgets that blood grows in Hacienda Luisita. That symbol is tainted with bloood.

වසර හැට එකක් තුළ මේ ගොවිගම ආධිපත්‍යයට ඍජුව අභියෝග කළ දේශපාලන නායකයින් බිහිව ඇත්තේ සිව්දෙනකු පමණකි. පළමුවැන්නා සී. පී ද සිල්වාය. චෙල්වනායගම් ගේ පූර්ණ සහය ලැබ 1960දී තමන්ගේ අගමැතිකම යටතේ ආණ්ඩුවක් පිහිටුවීමේ හැකියාව ලබන සී. පී. ද සිල්වාට ඒ අවස්ථාව නොලැබෙන්නේ අග්‍රාණ්ඩුකාර ගොවිගම කුලයේ ඔලිවර් ගුණතිලක එය වළකන බැවිණි. වෙනත් දේශපාලන සළු පිළි පොරවා ගෙන වුව රෝහණ විජේවීර හා විජය කුමාරතුංග එක්තරා මට්ටමක බලයක් ලබා ගන්නා මුත් දෙදෙනාම අකාලයේ මිය යාම නිසා එය ඇණහිටී. ඒ අනුව ගොවිගම ආධිපත්‍යයට අභියෝග කර ජය ගන්නා එකම අවශේෂ-කුල දේශපාලකයා වන්නේ ආර්. ප්‍රේමදාසය. ඒද කුලයට වඩා පන්තිය වැදගත් වන මොහොතක ඔහු බිහිවීම නිසාය.

ගාර්දිහේවාගේ සරත් චන්ද්‍රලාල් ෆොන්සේකා ජාතික තලයේ දේශපාලනට අවතීර්ණ වීම කරාව කුලයට අතිශයින්ම වැදගත් වන්නේ එනිසාය. තම ආධිපත්‍යය පැහැරගෙන සියවස් ගණනක් තමන් දෙවැනි තැනට පත්කළ ගොවිගම කුලය පැරදිය නොහැකිනම් ඔවුන්ට කරටකර සටනක් දෙන්නට මෙතරම් සුදුසු අවස්ථාවක් මෑත ඉතිහාසයේ මෙතෙක් පහළව නැත. ෆොන්සේකාගේ ආගමනය ගැන අධිරාජයා කලබොල වී සරමේ මුත්‍රා කරගන්නේද ඔහුට එකතුවෙන එජාප ජවිපෙ ඡන්ද අතළොස්ස ගැන සිතී නොව රුහුණු පුරවර මහා පරිමාණ කරාව ඡන්ද බැංකු ගැන සිතා විය හැකිය.

දේශපාලන වශයෙන් පමණක් කල්පනා කොට මේ ලේඛකයා විටෙක උපකල්පනය කළේ සරත් ෆොන්සේකා ජනපතිවරණයකට ඉදිරිපත්විය හැකි ඉඩ නොගිණිය හැකි තරම් අවම බවය. නමුත් ගෝත්‍රික කියැවීම තුළ එය වෙනස් විය හැකිය. මේ කිසිවක් තවම අවසාන නිගමන නොවේ. අපි කතා කරමු.

Why District 23 Might Spell Doom for the GOP

Last Tuesday, conservatives across the nation rejoiced as Republicans Bob McDonnell of Virginia and Chris Christie of New Jersey won their respective state’s gubernatorial elections.  Despite these significant victories for the GOP, it was a Democrat Cinderella who captured the media’s attention and dominated the headlines.

In a special election, Bill Owens became the first Democrat elected to New York’s 23^rd congressional district House seat in 140 years.  Owens, a once significant underdog, garnered momentum after the conservative-right opted to back third party candidate Doug Hoffman over the Republican nominee Dede Scozzafava.  Among those who threw their support to Hoffman were Sarah Palin, Fred Thompson, Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh–all heavy hitters from the far-right.

What prompted these political heavyweights to pick a dog in this amateur bout?  The congressional election in New York’s 23^rd was a microcosm of a larger war that could, if promulgated across the country, threaten the GOP’s prospects in next year’s mid-term elections.

Described as “the insurgent tea party candidate,” by New York Times columnist Frank Rich, Hoffman became the rallying point of despondent conservatives unhappy with the GOP’s recent centrist tone.  This group represents a rapidly growing minority within the Republican Party that intends to bring its agenda back to traditional conservatism.  The rift is growing as this group continues to appeal to more and more conservatives who love their God and hate big government.

Most pundits have argued that the gubernatorial losses spell trouble for the Democrats in the upcoming 2010 elections, suggesting the public now favors conservative candidates.  While it may be true that more people are becoming frustrated within the Democratic ranks, even more are aggravated within the Republican Party.

McDonnell and Christie both won elections in states that voted for Obama in 2008.  While Virginia has a long history of voting against the party in power in the White House, McDonnell and Christie both won because they forsook conservative ideological stances and adopted fiscally conservative platforms.  They knew that conservative social stances against abortion, gay rights, and affirmative action are still largely unpopular with most of the electorate.

Palin, Beck and the other prominent tea partiers don’t seem to understand this concept, and threaten to drive us into a three party system.  This could set up 2010 and 2012 elections that eerily resemble this year’s New York contest.  Republicans may find themselves struggling to choose between the moderate majority or the trendy extremists, splitting the votes and leaving the Democrats with a sizable advantage.

Bad news gets worse for the Republicans.  GOP pollster Bill McInturff has identified the three leading candidates for the 2012 presidential race: Sarah Palin, Mike Huckabee, and Mitt Romney, all of whom have strong conservative social agendas.  The GOP has a great opportunity to take advantage of the economic crisis and advocate for conservative fiscal reforms.  These ideas are popular right now, and the public could well support a conservative economic agenda.  However, this is not the time to preach for social reform as the “tea party” does.

Drinking and politics: Enjoy both in moderation

Conservatives need to realize that their social reform agenda is outdated and unpopular.  McDonnell and Christie understood this concept, and as a result, won the governorships of their states.  The Republican Party was most powerful when it unified in its fight against the Democrats (as I indicated in my first blog post), endorsing a unified message.  This is consistent with one of public relations most fundamental rules: always have a consistent message. Infighting threatens to tear the GOP apart, and as long as the Democrats can figure out a way to band together, they could be sitting pretty in 2010.

Africa Triumphant

     When Barack Obama was elected by deluded White voters of the United State the triumph of primitive African mental processes over European mental development emerged triumphant.  Few people seem to be paying attention to the not so subtle changes in the legal system.  

     Obama, born in Kenya, is following African tribal law.  Among the Zulu there was the practice of ’smelling out’ witches.  That is to say the chief, whether the early Chaka or the last of his line, Cetywayo, surveyed the land for dissidents or for other reasons, periodically  assembling the regiments for the ’smelling out.’  Witch doctors then roamed the ranks ’smelling out’  preselected ‘witches.’  They were immediately put to death.

     Chief Obama has inaugurated the same system.  He has called on the law to ’smell out’ critics and dissenters.  He has called upon them to ’smell out’ web sites critical of him, law agencies have been requestd to ’smell out’ dissidents of any sort and neutralize them through intimidation.   Arrest and slaughter will come later.

     Thus without anyone apparently noticing it he has boldly replaced the old legal system of checks and balances with African tribal chiefly law in which guilt is solely the will of the chief.

     Nothing is being done to check this ‘change WE can believe in’, so far it hasn’t even been acknowledged.  Now is the hour to stop the legal change and discard it.  If  you are afraid of the color of his skin then turn African, lose your rights and liberties.  If you have the will to assert your rights and freedoms whether being put under the frightful soul destroying spell ‘racist’ or not then chuck the Kenyan out.  There can be no possible reason for a man to spend millions of dollars to prevent the facts being known unless the facts are as alleged.  The fact is that Obama cannot legally be president as he was not born in this country but Kenya. 

     End the charade and put the guy on a plane back to Africa.  That is all that has to be done.   His presence is illegal.  Either that or submit to African tribal law.  Line up for the ’smelling out.’

The dictionary initially defines change as, “to change the form, nature, content, future course etc. of something different from what it would be if left alone”.  Imagine the surprise of some, who awoke on November 5, only to discover that a great change had taken place. 

Had the planet realigned? Had we been invaded? No, a Son of Africa had been taken from the outhouse to the White House.  We are taught that the one constant in nature is change. 

When President Obama called for change we could believe in, the words echoed in the chamber of many souls, for the words of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad could be felt in the streets, “dissatisfaction”, he said, “brings about a change.”  All around the globe the people are dissatisfied and call for change.  However, not just any change, but a change we could believe in.

This indeed is a season of change, many are moving from summer to fall on to the harshness of winter.  Others are moving thru the winters of their lives into warmth once again.  Change, it is as necessary as life itself.  Many African Americans awoke on the morning of November 5, feeling very strongly that the work had been done, and that the change, which had taken place, was all that was needed, we as a people had overcome. While much has changed, hence the anger of those, who realize, but failed to be in accord with the season, there remains a great deal more to the process.  For as the seasonal changes are gradual, so is the changing of minds and hearts.  If change can be defined as making the form, nature, content, and future course of something different, then I dare to say we have started in the reverse, for the future is certainly never to be the same.  However, we yet have not completely changed the content of the mind of the birthers, the extreme right-wingers, those who utter countless death threats at our President. 

We certainly have not changed how the nature of some does not allow them to see the humanity of others.  Form is defined as appearance; we certainly have never changed the form, because it appears as though, as stated by none other than President Carter, this man is hated because of his appearance.  It was nearly fifty years ago the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke his dream, in which he asked that a man be judged not by the color of his skin but by the content of his character.  So have we really changed?  Is this the change we can believe in?

No wonder the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan is asking us as a people to accept our responsibility in this season of Universal change, for the word we implies at least two, “what are you doing for yourself today, your brother in the east wants to know and hear from you at once.”  What are we as a people doing for ourselves; a world in need of change wants to know at once.

Since the election of our first Black President the black community has not gotten any better, while our future course is forever changed, our present realities are quite troubling; we remain stuck at the bottom of every pile.  The content of our culture remains degenerate, the natures of our relationships remain shallow, and the ghetto has not lost its form.  We must ask concerning the “we”, and having answered, we must get up and go to work.  If this is how WE all act with a President, how would we behave on knowing of a black Savior, or a Black Creator?

As we revisit our family albums, we might recall that it was on this date in 1860 that Abraham Lincoln was elected the 16th president of the United States over a deeply divided Democratic Party, becoming the first Republican to win the office.  Lincoln received only 40 percent of the popular vote but handily defeated the three other candidates: Southern Democrat John C. Breckinridge, Constitutional Union candidate John Bell, and, famously, Northern Democrat and Illinois senator Stephen Douglas.
