Did you see this on Yahoo!’s front page yesterday? Can you believe it? Obama with a halo! The article related to the pic is found at http://news.yahoo.com/s/time/20090323/us_time/08599188707300 and is entitled “Will Soaring Deficits Force Obama to Sacrifice His Agenda”?

The article kicks off, with pic in view, with a highly moral flavor. “A New Era of Responsibility” is Obama’s mantra and the article tries to unpack what that looks like in today’s economy and Obama’s budget plan. It ends with a question mark (Can he do it? What will history record?) but the picture says so much that it is hard to believe they are truly skeptical.

Turning the presidential seal into a halo is an interesting twist. Blending government and God is like mixing oil and water. Jesus got it, why do we not? Obama might be a good guy, but holy? Is he a savior, a saint? Does he point us to God?

Let the media do their thing. I’m gonna be watching for glowing light emanating from him, halos, Michelangelo-esque gestures, children on lap, iconic stances. Dare I posit: one of these Easters I’ll bet we’ll see a news photo of him bursting out a coffin, conquering the woes of the world, conquering economic death in all of its forms. A new savior has arisen…will be interesting to see where he leads his disciples.

Here is a picture of both the Presidential Seal that has been used for  over a century. Which means several Democrats have been President since this Seal was created. Yet Obama wants to change the Presidential Seal to show more interest in what he wants then what the Citizens of America want.

I think some anti-Obama bloggers have jumped right over the line into complete paranoia.  As if there’s not enough real stuff to criticize and dislike about Obama and his candidacy.

The big fuss is about a “subliminal image” on Obama’s website.

Here’s the image:

I don’t think it’s meant to be subliminal.  It’s just a nice looking background and filler.

Atlas Shrugs thinks that it’s a “desecration” of the Great Seal of the United States of America.

Here’s the real seal:

The image on Obama’s site is not a desecration.  Seriously.  They both have stars and part of the flag and an eagle.  The Obama design references the Great Seal.  That’s all.  Where Atlas sees an eagle “turning away from the viewer in its hasty retreat,” one could see an eagle taking flight to a new future.  Where she sees the single remaining arrow piercing the eagle’s shield, I see a single large arrow behind the shield.  And the assertion that “the tilted lines of the shield subtly suggest the famous images of the steel girder ruins of the World Trade Center” is just bizarre.  It’s just the stripes of the flag.  That’s all.  The shield is probably tilted as the eagle takes flight.

I can’t usually find many nice things to say about Obama or his campaign but this design is actually quite nice.  I’m a proud American and this image referencing the Great Seal doesn’t disturb me at all.  If it were me, I’d probably leave the cheesy “O” symbol off of the middle but it is his site so whatever.

As for the legal question, read the US Code carefully.

Whoever knowingly displays any printed or other likeness of the great seal of the United States, … or any facsimile thereof, in, or in connection with, any advertisement, poster, circular, book, pamphlet, or other publication, public meeting, play, motion picture, telecast, or other production, or on any building, monument, or stationery, for the purpose of conveying, or in a manner reasonably calculated to convey, a false impression of sponsorship or approval by the Government of the United States or by any department, agency, or instrumentality thereof, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than six months, or both.

Emphasis mine.

This isn’t a likeness or a facsimile of the Great Seal and it certainly doesn’t imply approval by the Government of the USA.  It’s just decoration on a website.  At most, it’s a bit of propaganda meant to convey patriotism and change.  About what I would expect on a candidate’s website.

I’m not surprised by this. I don’t believe that Sen. Obama is capable of telling the truth about anything.

First we had Barack Obama’s personal Presidential seal, and then Greek columns for a speech in a huge stadium. Now we have commemorative coins with Barry’s face on them, in the manner of Roman emperors and European monarchs. It may be noted that, in the United States, the face of a living person is NEVER printed on a postage stamp or a coin. Nonetheless, the Democratic Party not only failed to protest such an action, it actually welcomed it. This underscores our position that the Obama campaign is nothing more than a personality cult, and a dangerous one, that appeals to the most impressionable and weakest-minded elements of society–the kind with such low self-esteem that it really expects a Messiah to perform miracles and make the world into a paradise.

A company in Birmingham’s [United Kingdom] Jewelery Quarter is making commemorative coins for American presidential hopeful Barack Obama.

...When they got in touch with the Democrats the party jumped at the chance. And the coins have proved such a hit that locally produced versions have already been launched to compete with the UK originals.

The coins show Senator Obama’s face, along with a picture of the White House and the legend “President of the United States of America”.

Additional Information; it is U.S. policy that no portrait of living persons shall appear on its coinage.

Around lunch time the other day I stop by a local bookstore to see if I could find anything cool to read. To my surprise I found a book titled “Bling: The Hip-Hop Jewelry Book” by Reggie Ossé and Gabriel Tolliver.

OMG! This book was hot…it showed the evolution on bling, from Slick Rick to Ghost Face. The pictures are crazy…80s, 90s, 00s. This book is a must read. So today post is just a history show of Hip Hop Bling.

Larry Sinclair made a stop in Chicago. He noticed two things. An Obama doll with the presidential seal and Obama’s home for sale. Is Obama expecting an indictment? Is Obama expecting expulsion from the Senate? Does Obama have a new home in prison? Here is the article from Larry Sinclair:

“Did I miss the Presidential Election
While in Chicago this evening I came across an interesting item being sold in Obamaland.  According to the packaging of this Obama doll “HE IS ALREADY PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES” I find it unacceptable that Barack Obama is using “The Seal of The President of The United States” to sell dolls of his big ears and his forked tongue.  This is an outright illegal and unauthorized use of the Presidential Seal.  I also found something else interesting while in Chicago.  Barack and Michelle Obama seem to have put their Chicago area home up for sale.  I will be posting a new blog article later on Tuesday when I have returned to Duluth on this and what I plan to do to demand Obama admit his acts of crack smoking, cheating on Michelle (who by the way is featured on the cover of Ebony Magazine in an airbrushed photo) and his involvement with Donald Young.”

I know some people who don’t give Christmas presents to their children and don’t celebrate Christmas because they think the traditions of Christmas are actually steeped in paganism. But never have I heard of parents who don’t give birthday gifts to their children when they can afford them. What’s up with that? Yeah, I think it’s weird. It’s not criminal but it’s weird.

Is Sen. Barack Obama just too weird to be elected president?

Since the day Obama claimed the Democratic nomination, pundits and political pros have been waiting for him to take a significant lead in the polls. Here we are in August, and not only has Obama failed to get the Democrat’s traditional summertime bump, he’s tied with John McCain in the latest Gallup and Rasmussen polls.

We were looking for the perfect gift for “The man who is everything” and I was suggesting the traditional items for someone of Obama’s stature – gold, frankincense and myrrh. I was taken aback by the number of listeners who said the Democratic standard-bearer should get nothing because of a People magazine article about the Obama family’s policy of not giving Christmas or birthday presents to their own two daughters.

Then there was that speech in Berlin that was supposed to give Obama a big bounce. But his numbers went down instead.

Did Obama give a bad speech? No. But there was something just plain weird about watching a guy who wanted votes from Americans rallying 200,000 Germans in Berlin. It’s not wrong. It’s not unpatriotic. But no other presidential candidate in history has ever done anything like it. REST OF ARTICLE

Other weirdness mentioned in the article:

• He’s too skinny
• He doesn’t like ice cream
• He barely won his parties nomination but had his own presidential seal
• He has President printed accross the seat on his campaign jet
• HE proclaims he is a symbol of the possibility of America returning to it’s best traditions…who says that about himself?

I have just about enough on the Obama campaign sign that looked similar to the presidential seal.  I even got an email that said that he would replace the existing seal when he is elected.  Do you people really believe this crap?

It echoed the official presidential seal, with a Latin version of his “Yes, we can” motto replacing “E pluribus unum” and his rising-sun campaign logo replacing the bald eagle’s Stars and Stripes shield. It was on Obama’s lectern when he spoke at a Democratic governors meeting. The GOP chided him, and national news organizations pounced on the story.

The roar about this is just silly.  What about the stylized flag images used in campaign signs?  Does this mena the the seal of an office is more important than the symbol of the country?  Personally, I do not give a crap!

To me this whole uproar is from a group whose candidate is so thin on “real” issues that they try to find anything to change the subject.  Personally, I want to hear where the candidates stand on the issues and the solutions that they propose to the problems facing Americans.
