This will be Arden’s ornament for 2009. I made some slight changes to the pattern and stitched it in my choice of overdyed floss (but followed the original color scheme). I stitched it over one on 36 ct cream linen ffrom Vikki Clayton using GAST and WDW. I’d like to get my hands on part one and three so I could make the complete piece, but they’re OOP and I have yet to see them for resale anywhere.

This is the 2nd time I’ve stitched this – I also made it as a gift for Martine of Chatelaine Designs when her marriage ended. It seemed appropriate…. At that point, I also made changes to the design and I think I also stitched it over one.

This is for Aunt Joyce. I’ve stitched it in GAST and WDW on 36 ct HDF Cream linen. I think Aunt Joyce likes pink and blue, but I also worked in some red and green to make it a little Christmasy. I hope I can find a good backing fabric for it once I’m in Maine.

Although I changed the deliberate misspellings, I love this design and plan to keep this one for myself! Stitched on 36 ct HDF linen using HDF silks that match up to the suggested DMC color key.

i sent kenji a batch of questions so that he could give me a direct response to his exhibit.

why did i ask him these questions and why him?  well, because kenji’s work also related to sound and was quite an abstract piece as far as i could make out from his online blog. by abstract, i mean that if i were to put myself in the shoes of someone who knew nothing about kenji and his work and just went along to this exhibit he was a part of; i think i too would have found his piece hard to understand fully. I also thought it was good to interview kenji as he exhibited his work last year for the course and i wanted to find out what the reactions/responses were that he recieved. he also exhibited some other sound installations during the course of his career and i thought what better way to find out about audience interaction that from someone who also did a sound piece

kenji kindly answered my questions and here are the main parts of the message. ( i sent him a msg on facebook and i’ve edited out the greetings and general conversation that doesnt really relate to project/art work):

Was wondering if u could hlp me answer a few questions related to ur project if that’s ok? I wanna gather some research into the audience that attended the exhibit n their behaviours.

Also, can u answer me these questions related to sound:
1. When ppl attend your installations, r they more aware of the sound or the imagery or a mix of both?
2. Are your creations focused on transfering your ideas or for ppl to create their own ideas from your work?
3. What obstacles do u face when portraying sound to your audience?
4. How do u overcome these issues? 5. What reactions have u received from ur sound work?
6. What do u think about these reactions?
7. What would u change/ do differently for ur next work?
8. What have ur sound works taught u/ what have u learnt from ur sound works?

Kenji’s response:

ok… basically my final piece is making parody of the traditional media, but execution-wise, it is conceptual… and the human-computer interaction is really subtle and its supposed to be accidental… so im not sure if i can answer some of ur questions… but i’ll try my best~

1. it really depends… i was using headphones… in my situation, a bit more of imagery…
2. this time is more about transferring my idea
3. physical problem such as u need to consider if there is any other piece with sound in ur exhibition space, using speakers or headphone etc
4. the sound in my piece is not that important and there is another piece with sound in my space so i went for headphones at the end
5. i think my audiences found it informative
6. this is wht i expected too, coz my videos are CNN program, the situation room, which is a political commentary program
7. nothing too conceptual or subtle, mass audiences need something witty and easy to understand (personal opinion)
8.

he left out some questions which i guess he didn’t feel were related to him which is fine

kenji also gave me some good tips:

one personal opinion tho… i would prefer maybe u should make a small scale mock-up or dummy to experiment rather then getting the information verbally to be honest, coz interactive pieces are all different in terms of the execution, the way of interaction, the reaction from the piece, the scale etc… so it is really specific on how do you set your piece up… i hope you’ll find my answers helpful…

wow! i totally did find his answers useful i did think about doing test experiments with a handful of my target audience but i didn’t think to take into consideration scale!! i just thought i’d create it for presentation on screen.. but now that kenji mentioned screen sizes, i’m wondering if there would be any differences?

i shall definitely be taking it into account when i get around to human interaction testing. at the moment i’m refining what i’m going to be testing.  but details about this, i’ll save for another post

Panty shields up, Captain! We’re rebooting the Ovarian Operating System . . .

I know, the title of this blog alone makes you want to click fast and away. But I have to tell you a tale of consumer eco-angst removed from the simple and often expensive decision to buy local, organic products and food. But first, a little herstory . . .

There’s already been enough shame, secrecy, and taboo surrounding “that time of the month” and all the other fine euphemisms invented to be humourous or circumspect about the mystery of menstruation. There are countries where tampons weren’t and still aren’t sold because you’d have to “touch down there.” There are women who follow this practice willingly, even in forward thinking countries. They build huts and red tents and spas for this exact purpose. To wear pampers or to be pampered. Elsewhere.

But it’s moved beyond that to a place where we’re supposed to celebrate and “have a happy period,” a campaign from a company that stupidly chose their brand name to be “Always.” As in, “I’ll ALWAYS bleed, and I’ll ALWAYS wear these things.” At least Kotex, Tampex, and Playtex (all with –ex as a suffix to mean “out, from or away”) sound almost medical or medicinal. And it’s not ALL feminine hygiene, even wounded soldiers are prone to use a tampon (French for “plug” or “stopper”) to halt bullet wounds from weeping. “Always” doesn’t seem to imply medical or even chronic, instead, it implies a life sentence. Doesn’t your uterus protest? Well it should. War is hell and there’s a war in your drawers and the sick folks at Always were also responsible for aerodynamic pantyliners and pads. That’s right – they got your code red covered in homeland security and you can feel secure each month knowing there’s a little, white F-16 in your pants.

It’s not just a troubling war at home either . . . it’s covers many land masses and miles of ocean.

Spastic Plastic

Your average lady uses 16,800 tampons in her lifetime, that’s 250 to 300 pounds of tampons and applicators. Tag on a few thousand pads and panty liners, and your ecological footprint is looking more like Sasquatch. Of particular offense are the plastic applicators some tampons are encased in. They are casually tossed into wastebaskets where they later escape the curb trash or landfill, trotted off by animals, resurfacing in parking lots and playgrounds and a host of other locations you’d rather not see them appear.

They come back from the watery depths to haunt you, too.

Plastic tampon applicators from sewage outfalls are one of the most common forms of trash on beaches. Yeah, you thought food wrappers and glass bottles and needles were the only gross & hazardous materials washing out to sea and coming back in with the tides. You flush them and that’s just the beginning. For building owners, pads and tampons that are flushed down the toilet are the most common cause of plumbing problems. Further down the flow, they end up the sewage treatment plants and surf into a lake or onto a river, and on into the ocean where they pool with the rest of the plastic detritus at the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. There it all sits and breaks down into ever smaller particles until they are the size and color of plankton or worse, are pelletized high-density polyethylene (HDPE) white “nurdles” that resemble fish eggs or food to sea creatures. Then the birds and fish ingest these hormone disrupters and concentrated toxins like PCB and DDE and the circle of life gets a big kick in the nurdles.

But it’s not just the animals somewhat removed from you, you’re an animal too, and guess what it’s doing to you by directly inserting it? Your conventional feminine hygiene products contain a mixture of rayon and cotton. Rayon is in your blouses, dresses, lingerie, linings, scarves, suits, ties, hats, socks, the filling in Zippo lighters, blankets, window treatments, upholstery, tire cord, yarn and diapers. It’s highly absorbent but no good at retaining shape and as far as biodegradability goes, it’s a real loser. Most importantly, synthetic materials like the Rayon used in tampons show an increased risk of toxic shock syndrome (TSS), particularly for superabsorbent tampons. So if you’re a bleeder, you’re a feeder.

And sweet, white cotton isn’t much better up in there. Cotton is highly pesticide-intensive; 25% of pesticides used globally are devoted to growing cotton. To achieve that lily-white look, pads and tampons are bleached with chlorine, a process which creates dioxins, a known carcinogen and those bad boys shouldn’t be placed anywhere near your reproductive organs. And you swear you never smoked a cigar in your life. Especially in a donkey show.

Think Outside the (Tampon) Box

It’s getting easier to select tampons, pads, and panty liners made from organic, unbleached cotton which is cultivated without the use of pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, sewage sludge, irradiation, petrochemicals, or genetic engineering. All of which we now have think about when looking at the towering isle of soothing, pastel colors, reminding us that yes – we’ll be back out there swimming, riding ponies, surfing at the beach and smiling while playing miniature golf in NO time.

O.B. tampons: small box, no applicator. Compact, simple cellophane wrapper covering them, easy to use, and take up very little room in your purse. It is unfathomable, but some women simple aren’t down with getting that up close and personal with their own lady bits and maybe getting their finger a little spotty. Come on darlings – this is no time to be prim and squeamish. If you haven’t seen it in a mirror to understand how it goes together and pushed the buttons to see how it works, you don’t deserve to have sex and should just hang an “Out Of Order” sign over your girdle loop. Get over it. Get into it. It’s yours. Deal.

OG-style Tampax: wrapped in paper, cardboard applicator that breaks down relatively quickly if they happen to get loose in the environment. Preferable to the Pearl brand, which has an indestructible plastic applicator strong enough for shotgun shell casings and is then further wrapped in coated paper. Awesome. Go ahead. Try running them over with your car. You can’t destroy them. They’ll only get dirty . . . and more angry. That plastic rocket launcher is just one more wasteful obstacle between you and your nana. I don’t even want to go into the perfumed varieties. Now on top of your plastic fetish, you’re going to open a vapor-impermeable pouch and stick this vulcanized, alcohol soaked albino vampire into your hoo-ha where no one and nothing but your senseless cervix can smell it? Well it doesn’t work and now you smell of lightly talcumed meat. Fail. p.s. Talc is closely related to the potent carcinogen asbestos and talc particles have been shown to cause tumors in the ovaries and lungs of cancer victims. So hey – go easy on sprinkling the Johnson’s about your leaky basement. It’s a safety hazard. You’ll slip and fall. No need to announce “clean-up on aisle one.”

Natracare and Seventh Generation: chemical-free, non chlorine-bleached, simple packaging which means even less waste. Eco-conscious enough with all the key ingredient and disclaimers including no animal-testing and skin-tested only on fellow humans. You can sleep well in the knowledge that no bunnies had to hop about with a maxi pad strapped to their fluffy bums and instead, some nice lady in a lab got itchy a few times. This is still within the normal scope of your monthly cycle.

Jade and Pearl Sea Sponge: natural tampons inspired by the traditional use of sponges by menstruating women of ancient times. So if you want to bleed like Cleopatra, this is your bag. The Egyptians invented the tampon too – so you can thank them for that little wonder. Sea sponges are available in Teenie, Regular, and Large and you precision(?) fit to size by trimming the sea sponge and experimenting with insertion. Wow. Try not to think about doing dishes or wiping counters or a nice hot sponge bath because really, I can’t see how this is either sanitary OR relaxing. So Sally, if you’re worried about sullying up the seashore, (welcome to my new menstrual tongue twister) this is all the rage amongst mythological aquatic creatures. Apparently, sea sponges are what mermaids use.

Menstrual Cups – i.e.: Diva cup, Mooncup, Instead Softcup, Lunette, Keepercup, LadyCup, Femmecup, Miacup: Ok. Here’s where I drawn the line. This ain’t a Dixie Cup, or a Sippie Cup, a Tommee Tippee Cup or an Ice Cream Cup. This is none of those fun, sweet, childlike associations. But I trust you probably got over that the first time you sprung a leak and wrecked your favorite Underroos or your expensive lingerie for failing to count the days. Maybe I just haven’t been brave enough to go with a new, miserable experience, but let me get this straight . . . i fold a plastic, rubbery cup into a jelly roll, insert this, it pops open like a tulip, i “stir” it around to make sure the umbrella’s been fully deployed, which may take some coaxing and pushing and twisting, and then I pull it out by its dangling tail at intervals, wash it and reinsert it like tiny, portable Tupper Ware?!?!

Oh, hell no!

i am not about to wash my snatch basket in the sink (and carry special, mild, perfume-free, hypo-allergenic fem soap) in between classes or you know, when i take a restroom break to freshen up while out to dinner. i mean, how does one do this discreetly? Oh, and once a month, i get the distinct displeasure of a 5-minute boil for my little traveling jellyfish at the end of the cycle in some dedicated kitchen equipment that never sees food. Or, hey, i can use rubbing alcohol (and not hydrogen peroxide) to sterilize it. But I have to be extremely careful not to soak it too long and allow it to dry completely and not degrade the integrity of the plastic and rinse the residue so I don’t fuck up my vaginal pH.

O.B. tampons sounding better all the time, huh? Can you imagine wringing out your sea sponge? Wouldn’t you rather “touch it” now?

Go With The Flow

There was a time when i worked at a place so uptight, they wouldn’t allow the female staff to carry in a purse. Whether this was for security or to keep outside worldly distractions such as cell phones to a minimum was unclear, but the idea completely incensed my friend Nicole.

“What?” she snapped. “Where are you supposed to carry your tampons, up your ass?”

i explained to her how bad the work environment sucked and how tension and impossible precision reigned, thus, the topic of anal retention seemed a very fitting description. The job had me so upset, i couldn’t poop for a week. Then i quit.

And many light flow days from then, here i was on a Wednesday nite, standing there in the supermarket isle, paralyzed by too many choices and horrible, far-reaching consequences of those attempts at informed decision. There i was: hungry, cranky, wanting ice cream and a heating pad at the same time, thinking about plumbing, and ocean waters and marine life and cancer of the Yoni.

i turn to the woman next to me who is clicking and sucking at her teeth in audible consternation, just like me, and we both smile nervously, amazed at the mini internal crisis over what we’re going to buy. Neither of us will move first, both seem to be wondering how the other will select, looking for a brave trend to follow. Somehow, there’s a preposterous sense of worry over being judged, like bringing a film or a music cd or a book to the checkout clerk, the fear of choosing poorly, unwisely, without taste or sensibilities. “Hmmm,” she says. “Yeahhhhh,” I mutter slowly and drawn out. And we both start giggling.

My cup of joy is overflowing

I consider my internal flowchart for assessing absorbency needs:

junior – aww, isn’t that cute, you inked!

light – Miss Kitty has a nose bleed.

regular – oh, yay. my period’s back.

super – omg that’s a lot of blood.

super plus – jesus, maybe you should go to the hospital!

ultra – uhh, i think that blood clot just asked for a cigarette.

i am looking for regular. Just something in between, just a few tampons, a starter pack, a holdover since i don’t see any of my normal go-tos. And all they have is “a mere scratch” or “Carrie – Prom Scene.”

So i think of the dolphins and the salmon and the seabirds and i grab the 10-pack with the small, recyclable cardboard box and no applicator with the green looking package and eco-claims to fame and the woman next to me does the same. Just enough to soldier on.

It’s all i can do, really. If i don’t want to leave with anymore acronyms. Say, add PTSD to my PMS. Christ Almighty in a hybrid – i can’t even BLEED with out feeling guilty about it in my new sustainable world concept! i leave with my chlorine-free, biodegradable, non-applicator, no plastic, rayon-free tampons and my razors (which are free from animal testing) and a pint of, yes, sorry, blood orange sorbet, and it’s a good thing. While i’m happily eating my cool treat, i don’t need to imagine poor, naked bunnies hopping around with razor burn and nicks with only a maxi-pad to keep them warm. And after all this guilt, i just want to sandwich a washcloth and tuck it in my drawers or just sit on a sock and call it good.

So I’ve started two new lines besides the tote bags…these are the Lucy Gooseys (easy market bags or just to run down the street) and the Prim, a nice half moon one strapped satchel with a closure. These are coming a long way. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

I’ve taken to buying curious little handmade things from Etsy.com, mostly handmade dolls or plush toys.  I love them all.  They have such personality.  I give them all very fine eighteenth century names and I smile every time I see them.

Unfortunately, I’ve begun to realize that I have bizarre tastes.  I like primitive dolls (“prim” for short).  I like them to look very grungy and old, like an old worn out shoe that fits just right, that you should have thrown away long ago but you love them too much to do so because they suit you just right.  those kind of dolls.  humble, overlooked sort of dolls.  Not frilly, perfect porcelain dolls that break easily.  Those dolls have no personality.  They’re just dolls.  Their sole purpose is to sit there and be pretty.  How boring.

My very first prim doll was Beatrice the bunny, with her wonky nose, slight blush, and disheveled ears, whom I dearly loved.  Everyone else said she was the ugliest bunny they’d ever seen.  But I love her.  I love her so much that I secretly give her a kiss when no one is looking.  which, I guess, isn’t a secret anymore. :/

Then there was Annie, the little prim doll with frizzed-up hair, a plain little dress, and button eyes.  Her head is shaped funny.  It’s asymmetrical–it sticks out too far on the right.  Which is exactly what I liked about her.  I like it when things aren’t quite straight on purpose.

Then there were the two muslin cats, Jinx and Sadie, with their big expressive hand-drawn eyes and droopy thread whiskers.  They’re not exactly ugly, but the general consensus from everyone else was that they weren’t exactly pretty, either.

Then the big one was Carlota.  Carlota took the cake.  See for yourself.  There she is, next to Jinx and Sadie on my dresser.   My mother says she looks like a voodoo doll.  My brother said it looked like a rotting head.  My father laughed for ten minutes.  My sister-in-law politely tried to say something nice, but no one can hide their disgust in the presence of the terrible Carlota.  No one.  I admit she is not attractive.  She’s ugly ugly.  But I’m still fond of her.  I like her.  It’s a shame that she caused such a ruckus.  My poor mother (who loves angels and porcelain dolls, and pretty little things) was (and is still) horrified.  Utterly horrified.  She always wanted to leave her porcelain dolls to me, but she gave up and promised them to my niece instead, since I went and decided I liked putrid, horrible, ugly voodoo dolls.

I felt kind of bad about that.

So I decided to buy something cute for once.  I do like cute things, too.  Something handmade, with a lot of personality in the artist’s design.  Something sweet.  Something dainty.

“A mouse,” I thought.  Naturally.

So I searched Etsy and bought the most adorable, expressive little needle felted mouse I had ever seen.

Just look at him.  Those tiny feet!  That velvet nose!  He forever grasps his little thread with his legs dangling in front of him, with a sweet, sweet smile on his face.   A picture of wonder, innocence, and imagination, he is.  I named him Benjamin, a fine, strong name for such a small little thing.

“Somebody’ll think he’s cute, right?” I asked myself.

NOT RIGHT.

I test ran my mouse today in public, strung around my neck as a necklace, thinking someone, somewhere might say “Oh, what a cute mouse.  Why, it looks real!” or something like that.  But that didn’t happen.  I was so very wrong.  Apparently people are generally horrified of mice.  Somehow I had been in the mindset that this jump-on-a-chair-it’s-a-mouse mentality was somewhat outdated or highly exaggerated.

People don’t think they’re cute.  People panic.  People get grossed out.  Mice are bad.  Mice are nasty, despicable little vermin that need to die.  And my mouse looked too much like a real mouse at first glance.

The responses were like this:

“Oh my god, that looks like a dead, stuffed mouse, why are you wearing that?”

“Aaauugh what is that thing?  That’s nasty.  I just killed one of those this morning.”

“God, that looks like a real mouse.  [awkward silence and look of disgust]“

Poor Benjamin.  I think he’s sweet and cute.  But it looks like he falls into the “ugly” category with the rest of them, humble and overlooked, like worn-out sneakers loved by only one person.  I guess he’s not very well suited to hang as a necklace, unless I want to scare the girly-girls away.    Oh well.  I may as well give up trying to be girly and keep loving my worn out dolls the way everybody loves their nasty old worn out shoes.  Or shirt.  Or pajamas.  Whatever ratty thing you have that you won’t get rid of.  I have my dolls and my mouse and I love them so.

Cuando empezamos a familiarizarnos con la interacción en Second Life podemos ver que existen tiendas y ventas de objetos. Desde casas, pasando por coches, naves futuristas, ropas, pelos, hasta joyas, muebles o camas.

Los creadores de estos objetos pueden establecer permisos sobre ellos dependiendo del fin de dichos objetos. Tu mismo(tu también puedes ser creador), cuando crees un prim podrás establecerle permisos. Estos permisos son los siguientes:

Pero creo que lo interesante son las mezclas de estas propiedades:

Este es el típìco objeto FREEBIE, es decir, es un objeto gratuito por sus permisos. Si lo puedes transferir, y lo puedes copiar y encima lo puedes modificar es un objeto que pasará de mano en mano muchas veces, incluso modificado cuyo precio suele ser 0L$ ya que lo puede poseer todo el mundo.
Si deseas objetos exclusivos, que nadie pueda tener, te desaconsejamos este tipo de objetos.

Suelen ser productos descatalogados o de mala calidad que se utilizan como reclamo para atraer visitantes a un local o tienda.  Los creadores también utilizamos este tipo de objetos gratuitos para darnos a conocer.

Si eres novato y te fijas en algún residente “veterano” verás que su vestimenta, avatar, pelos o complementos son “diferentes” y parecen más realistas que cualquier novato, ellos también advierten a los novatos de esta forma además de poderlo observar en la “fecha de nacimiento” de tu perfil (claro).  Aquí la exclusividad también se paga.

COPY SI/ TRANS.NO/ MOD. NO

Son objetos con la posibilidad de ser copiados infinitamente por el propietario del objeto pero no transferidos a otro avatar.

Si este objeto es una palmera, es perfecto, porque la palmera la podremos copiar tantas veces como queramos en nuestro terreno o en terrenos de nuestros amigos.
Un ejemplo que se suele dar es que un propietario vende su terreno con palmeras o vegetación COPY SI / NO TRANS. Cuando vende el terreno el usuario comprador no puede coger las palmeras en su inventario, solo moverlas de sitio ya que no le pertenecen. Tampoco adquirió ningun permiso sobre las palmeras porque inicialmente son TRANS.NO y por ello el usuario propietario no las podría ni transferir ni vender (transferir a cambio de dinero). Para quitarlas, las tiene que devolver al usuario original (retornar).
Si es ropa, por ejemplo una camiseta, podremos tenerla copiada en nuestro inventario muchas veces con diferentes pantalones, sin embargo no podremos dejársela a un amigo.

COPY NO/ TRANS.SI/ MOD. NO

Son objetos con la posibilidad de ser transferidos o vendidos a otro avatar pero una vez que los pasemos, ya no lo tendremos nosotros.

Este caso suele darse en grandes casas o muebles.
Solo tienes una copia de dichos articulos. Si pones la casa en un terreno ya no estará en tu inventario ya que lo pusiste en el terreno, aunque te pertenecerá. Lo mismo con los muebles: los colocas dentro de la casa y ya no estarán en tu inventario.
Si por alguna razón no pagas el terreno o te echan de este, todos los objetos que te pertenezcan serán retornados a tu inventario (carpeta LOST AND FOUND).

Si te cansas de la casa o los muebles siempre podrás o darla a un amigo que le de un nuevo uso o revenderla por el precio que tu quieras. Pones la casa en tu terreno y le especificas un precio de venta. Cuando llegue alquien y la compre, ya la casa tendrá otro propietario y este podrá recogerla en su inventario o tu podrás retornarsela ya que está en tu terreno.

TE ACONSEJAMOS:

*  Si eres nuevo en Second Life, que vayas a tiendas o lugares que proporcionen FREEBIES. Esto te ayudará a desenvolverte en Second Life y a modificar tu aspecto a tu gusto sin gasto de dinero de ningún tipo. Al final de este post una lista de alguna de esas tiendas o lugares con cientos de freebies.

* Ver como funcionan los permisos creando tus propios prims  y poniéndolos a la venta por 0L$ y practicando con amigos o contigo mismo.

*Si te vas a dedicar a la creación de artículos o a su posterior venta, te recomendamos que practiques y pruebes los permisos en los objetos, ya que, si por despiste pones un objeto que creaste con mucho esfuerzo a la venta con todos los permisos (COPY SI/MOD.SI/TRANS.SI) estarás hundiendo tu negocio ya que solo venderás el primero.

I have a weakness for beautiful shoes and these were no exception, except for the fact that when I tried them on, they were shoes with prim feet. Now, I have avoided prim feet and shoes with them like the plague, but I was like “Oh well, they’re nice shoes, I’ll go for it.” Don’t mind my pose stand (which sinks my toes into it), I just wanted to fit them well and this is the basic skin color for them… I checked the options and there was not a way for me to easily do the color match way of tinting one’s feet that I prefer, so I had to toggle dark, light and RGB +/- buttons. To get anything close to my skin color took the following clicks: 24 dark, 8 red+, and 1 blue + and even then it wasn’t quite right as my skin has this lovely luminous realistic look that contrasted with the flat look of the feet…
And I’m not even going to talk about the fact that the shoes were no mod with no EZ sizing or way to adjust those cool black bands. Arrrrrrgh…I had to toss them back into my inventory as they’re unusable to me. Well, I really did try. Damn! OK, my fashion moment is over, back to exploring and such.

Un Megaprim (también llamado HUGE PRIM) es un prim mucho mas grande de lo que permite Second Life. Se deben a un exploit (vulnerabilidad del sistema)  en los servidores que validaban tamaños mas grandes que los normales establecidos.

Se descubrieron en 2006 y el residente Gene Replacement (También conocido como Plastic Duck: “Pato de Plástico”) comenzó a crearlos dentro de Second Life.

Al principio Linden Labs comenzó a banear a todo aquel que creara o tuviera posesion de prims de este tipo alegando que pueden provocar comportamientos inesperados en Second Life, molestia a vecinos colindantes de las lands y lag. Pero la verdad es que mientras que un suelo de 100×100 realizada con prims normales haría trabajar a nuestras tarjetas de video mucho más, ya que tiene que cargar unas 1000 prims con caras, vértices y texturas, mientras que el mismo suelo realizado con un megaprim de 100 x 100 solo tíene que cargar las caras y vertices de un objeto.

Más adelante optaron por legalizar su uso en estados privados, es decir, en sims no soportadas por Linden Labs.

Actualmente esa restricción también se ha eliminado.  Finalmente aprobaron su uso para megaprims que no midieran mas de 256 metros, pero también se permiten con el límite de 64.000 metros de tamaño para el uso en horizones y cielos.

Si te encuentras en una región privada, ten cuidado con la utilización de Megaprims, ya que para algunos owners la creencia de que provocan lag, hace que prohiban su uso. Es cuestión de que pruebes o que leas el “covenant” (convenio de la land privada).

De todas formas, es una buena forma de economizar en tus construcciones!
