The launch of the brand new Dymo Labelwriter 450 Label Printer from Dymo has reportedly been brought forward.

Launched in the US earlier in the year, the Dymo Labelwriter 450 was not due here in the UK until Jan 2010.

But now Dymo has run out of the old Labelwriters faster than expected causing a bit of a headache for suppliers, so the Dymo LabelWriter 450 launch has been moved forward to late November.

Many resellers who dropship the products have reportedly been caught out by the sudden lack of stock as distributors ran out and were unable to order more in. However, some of the larger suppliers who hold their own stock still have some left.

Cetaklah Bagian yang Anda Butuhkan Saja

Daripada mencetak seluruh dokumen, hampir semua aplikasi memiliki sebuah fitur yang mungkin selama ini tidak Anda perhatikan yaitu fitur untuk mencetak hanya teks yang terblokir. Fitur ini sangat berguna jika Anda hanya ingin mencetak sebuah paragraf dari suatu website atau sebagian kecil teks dari suatu dokumen yang panjang, daripada Anda menghabiskan waktu dengan menghapus halaman-halaman yang tidak Anda butuhkan.

Cara ini dapat bekerja pada sebagian besar aplikasi seperti IE, Firefox, Microsoft Excel & Word. Cukup dengan memblokir bagian dokumen yang ingin Anda cetak dan pilih “Selection” di dialog print.

(Walaupun dibuat oleh HP, tetapi aplikasi ini dapat dipakai untuk semua printer). Aplikasi ini dapat menghemat banyak kertas jika Anda seringkali harus mencetak berbagai alamat atau kontak dari berbagai.Sayangnya, add-on ini tidak bekerja di Firefox 3 bahkan setelah dicoba dengan Nightly Tester Tools. Semoga mereka akan segera memperbaharui produk ini, karena add-on ini sangat berguna untuk menghemat kertas.

Gunakan Mode Draft Sebagai Setting Default

Jika Anda menggunakan sebuah printer inkjet maka Anda tidak perlu menggunakan kualitas tinggi atau menengah untuk mencetak hal-hal kecil seperti artikel atau apapun itu. Anda akan menghemat banyak tinta (dan waktu) dengan memasang Fast Draft sebagai default pada printer properties, sehingga tidak perlu setiap kali mengganti settingya.

The printer is an interesting place. It’s somewhat replaced the water cooler as a kibitzing zone, since more than half the time the damn thing doesn’t work anyway, or you’re stuck there rifling through someone else’s jobs, or you’re busy reading all the signs.

Most common is the “pick up your printing promptly” sign, which is pretty understandable. The average office printer can hold maybe 100 sheets in the output tray, though there’s no safety that says “if you hit an obstruction, stop printing”. Instead, the printer keeps shoving pages out through its slot, crumpling them up and losing them amid contracts and documentation and coupons and personal e-mails and funny pictures of cats and, of course, signs asking people to pick up their printing promptly. These can be ignored because if you see them, you’re not the culprit, and if you’re the culprit, you’ll never see them.

Next-most-common is “don’t remove others’ print jobs” or something similar. Admittedly, I’ve done this. It happens sometimes; I’ll print four or five documents, pick them up, and realize five minutes later as I’m sorting that I’ve got someone’s travel plans in between copies one and two. Usually I’ll just bring the pages to the person’s desk; it gives me a chance to waste some time at work chatting, which is always a plus. The thing is: if your print job isn’t there, odds are good you’ve already reprinted it. Unfortunately there’s no way to be sure someone else has taken your printing. I wish there was.

You’ll also find retaliatory signs, such as the one above about robots learning about love. Wherever there are office signs, there are retaliatory signs — signs that make fun of the signposter for his or her spelling, grammar, bad jokes, repetitiveness, or anal-retentiveness. These are fun to make, but don’t do it. Everyone knows it’s you.

And, finally, there are the helpful signs. I tend to make these. For example: about four years ago, I figured out why one of our printers kept jamming: the rollers that controlled tray 3 messed things up for some reason and told the printer it wasn’t working, even when it was. So I hand-lettered a little sign that said something like this:

Do not put any paper in Tray 3. This will cause the printer to think it is jammed. Use Tray 2 instead.

See? Nothing snide or snarky. Just a simple note.

I also found a way to fix my printer settings so that the computer wouldn’t even look for tray 3, because that particular model of printer would try tray 3 before every page, thereby making the print jobs take five times as long as they should have. Not everyone got the fix… just people I liked. You know who you are.

Oke, kalau pilih yang pertama tinggal siapkan dananya. Kalau yang kedua siapkan obeng + -, tang, dll. karena harus bongkar printernya.

Membongkar r230 itu tidak rumit.  Tapi yang baru pertama kali memang harus hati-hati. Masalahnya adalah di sensor head (hanya sebutan saya karena letaknya di pinggir head).  Setelah ketemu tuh sensor, tinggal bersihkan saja dengan cottonbud. Kalau penasaran copot aja tuh sensor terus cuci pake sabun dan keringkan 2 / 3 hari. Kalau masih belum bener juga, udah mati tuh sensor dan harus ganti.

Yang harus diperhatikan:

1. Karena letaknya di dekat head, Anda harus hati-hati jangan sampai menyentuh head.

2. Kalau sampai membasahi sensor, pastikan dulu sampai benar-benar kering sebelum dipasang.

printer yang terhubung ke port pararel di komputer anda, coba jalankan perintah yang
dicetak tebal berikut ini di jendela MSDOS® Prompt:

Berapa kali sebuah Cartridge Printer dapat di REFILL

Bagi kita yang berprinsip pengiritan karena harga cartridge yang mahal bahkan hampir sama dengan kalau kita beli baru printernya, ini adalah pertanyaan yang penting bro..karena Isi ulang adalah solusi yang praktis bagi kita apabila tinta printer isinya habis
Masalahnya pihak produsen emang membuat printer tidak untuk jangka pemakaian yang lama ( penulis telah 3x ganti print ), mereka mensetting printer terutama cartridgenya hanya bisa dipakai 3-5 kali pengisian aja ( tinta asli ) tetapi dengan merefill tinta kta dapat mengirit biaya dan dengan perawatan yang benar kita dapat memperpanjang usia cartridge, kemudian….

Berapa kali sebuah Cartridge Tinta dapat di-isi ulang ?

Tidak ada jawaban yang pasti mengenai hal ini, karena hal ini sangat tergantung pada keadaan dan perlakuan pada Cartridge Tinta pada saat isi tintanya habis.
Pengisian ber-ulang-ulang sebelum isi tinta benar-benar habis dan kosong dapat memperpanjang umur Cartridge Tinta dan memperbesar kemungkinan untuk di-isi ulang.
Sebaliknya pemaksaan penggunaan Cartridge Tinta pada saat isi tinta sudah menipis akan memperpendek umur-nya dan mengurangi kemungkinan untuk di-isi ulang.

Pengisian berulang-ulang hingga 3 – 5 kali sudah sangat umum dilakukan dengan keberhasilan yang cukup memuaskan. Tetapi tentunya pada akhirnya Cartridge Tinta akan tetap dapat berhenti berfungsi dikarenakan keausan pada lubang penyemprotan tinta (head) dan / atau keausan / kerusakan pada rangkaian elektronik yang mendukung fungsi Cartridge Tinta tersebut, pada saat ini bersiap-siaplah membeli Cartridge Tinta baru.

Apa yang menyebabkan sebuah Cartridge Tinta rusak total dan tidak dapat digunakan lagi walaupun setelah di-isi ulang ?

A. Kerusakan pada rangkaian eletronik yang ada pada Cartridge Tinta yang disebabkan oleh hal-hal berikut:

1. Pemaksaan pencetakan dengan Cratridge Tinta yang isi tintanya sudah menipis dan bahkan habis sama sekali, karena dengan tidak adanya tinta, berarti rangkaian elektronik tersebut tidak ada tinta cair yang mendinginkannya pada saat mencetak, sehingga terjadi pemanasan yang berlebihan (over heating) yang berakibat merusak rangkaian elektronik tersebut.
2. Penanganan Cartridge Tinta yang tidak benar. Maka itu rangkaian elektronik yang kelihatan dari luar sebaiknya jangan sampai tersentuh oleh tangan atau benda keras.

B. Penyumbatan berat pada lubang penyemprotan tinta (head). Ini biasanya disebabkan oleh hal-hal berikut:

1. Pemaksaan pencetakan dengan Cartridge Tinta yang isi tintanya sudah menipis dan bahkan habis sama sekali, sehingga sisa-sisa tinta yang sangat sedikit akan mengering pada permukaan lubang penyemprotan tinta (head) yang pada akhirnya menyebabkan penyumbatan pada lubang-lubang tersebut.
2. Penempatan Cartridge Tinta pada udara terbuka akan menyebabkan tinta yang tersisa pada lubang penyemprotan tinta (head) mengering dan menyebabkan penyumbatan. Dan ini akan terjadi pada Cartridge Tinta yang masih berisi tinta atau kosong.
Apakah Cartridge Tinta yang sudah habis isi tintanya dalam jangka waktu lama masih dapat di-isi ulang ?

Well, I did it. I took the bit in my teeth and installed Apple’s latest version of its operating system, Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6), this last week. I wish to report that I was pleasantly surprised with how well it went. You see, having used Microsoft Windows for nearly 25 years, I knew better than to install a new version of that operation system (OS) on an older machine. If I was buying a new machine, sure, the latest OS was worth it because I would be installing the applications etc. from scratch. However, to install an updated version (major revision) on an older machine on top of already installed applications was just asking for trouble for which new versions of Windows were notorious.

So, it was with some trepidation that I approached installing Snow Leopard on my 1 1/2 year-old iMac. I read all the reviews and understood that Apple was not Microsoft; that because they had better control over their computers, they could better handle an OS upgrade. Thus, with some time available to handle any problems that might pop up, I gritted my teeth and purchased an upgrade copy of Snow Leopard.

The sales guy at the Apple store confirmed the install should be relatively painless but did caution me to backup all my data etc. just in case. After all, stuff does happen, like power failures during the install, and occasionally a bug in a specific configuration does appear. I backed up my data to both my external hard drive and a DVD, and then popped the Snow Leopard DVD into the machine and let Apple take over.

Installing an OS upgrade is not like installing the latest version of a favorite application program. It takes time as configurations must be copied, stored and reestablished, and documents and files swapped back and forth. As long as my computer screen didn’t go blank, blue or otherwise indicate a serious problem, I let it proceed for the 20 or 30 minutes it took to make the change. After the perfunctory reboot, my familiar desktop came back up on the screen with little noticeable change.

The first thing my new system wanted to do was check for updates via the Internet. That revealed the first problem: my system couldn’t find my Telus 3G card which serves as my “high-speed” Internet connection (we don’t have regular high speed here in the country, despite the “Alberta Advantage”). Upon checking my System Preferences, I found I had a new Internet connection using the Telus card through a Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN). Once I activated it in Preferences, I found a new icon on the menu bar at the top of my screen. Connecting to the Internet was now just a click away. So off I went to the Apple site to download the latest update for Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6.2). That’s a 500+ Mb download that took the better part of five hours.

Next to check was the connections with my peripherals. My HP photo-quality ink jet printer passed with flying colors. However, my HP laser jet printer did not. Although, the system recognized the printer, the printer would not accept print jobs. What to do?

After double checking all physical and software connections and double checking with the HP web site about a revised print driver (where I was informed it was included with Snow Leopard), I phoned Apple technical support. Now, over the years I’ve also learned not to expect much satisfaction from telephone technical support. Of course, Microsoft was the worst for this because if you had the temerity to obtain your Windows already installed on your PC, Microsoft washed its hands of any support and referred you to the computer manufacturer. In my case, that meant talking to somebody in a heavily accented English who quickly dismissed my problem as a Microsoft one (I so love “Catch-22”).

However with Apple, I found myself talking to someone who actually attempted to understand my problem and seek a solution. She confirmed what actions I had already taken and then stepped me through some others. Unfortunately, she could not figure out why the printer would not print. She then put me on hold while she sought her supervisor. He quickly came on line, apologized for my problem, and reviewed the steps that had already been taken. Soon, he was stepping me into the inner workings of the OS where we deleted some files. I rebooted the machine and voila, my printer worked. Apparently, and old configuration had to be deleted before the system built a new one. Thank you Apple for providing the support I needed. You are an example of what customer service should be about!

Next I tried my Nikon slide and film scanner. No problem, it worked like a charm like it always has. Next, came my HP flatbed photo scanner. Problem! Snow Leopard didn’t know it existed. Before calling Apple again I decided to do some research. Using Google I soon found myself at the Apple and HP support forums where I learned HP had stopped supplying upgraded print drivers for this particular scanner for several years, and Apple confirmed this scanner was not supported. As a result, I joined the throng of dissatisfied HP customers on these forums pledging not to buy another HP scanner.

Fortunately, I still have a Windows laptop (XP) that will drive the scanner. Since I bought my Nikon scanner, I have little use for the flatbed other than photocopying. However, I do need one for other purposes from time to time. So, I will let the laptop fill the gap until I find a suitable replacement.

Thus, if you use a Mac, I recommend upgrading to Snow Leopard. It has a smaller footprint and several other enhancements that improves your experience. However, as with any OS upgrade, be prepared to take some time to fine tune; and don’t fear approaching Apple Support. They will indeed help you!

Postproduzione si, postproduzione no…

Quante appassionate discussioni sull’opportunità o meno di intervenire sulle immagini digitali. Da una parte i puristi del “non si tocca nulla”, dall’altra gli smanettoni. 

E’ curioso, ma secondo me, la diatriba ha poco senso.

La postroduzione è sempre esistita e la questione eventualmente non sta negli aspetti tecnologici ma nella “misura”, nella capacità di trovare il giusto limite oltre il quale non andare.

A parte il fatto che anche in molte altre forme d’arte  si può parlare tranquillamente di postproduzione, e senza problemi di tabù (pensiamo alla musica, al cinema ma anche alla stessa pittura), comunque la fotografia ha avuto fino dai suoi albori nel processo dell’immagine una sua caratteristica peculiare.

Non è forse postproduzione lo sviluppo del negativo ?
E che dire della stampa ? Della scelta della carta e del trattamento ? Mai sentito parlare di “sviluppo selettivo” ?

Quante variabili poteva controllare il fotografo in camera oscura e poi in fase di stampa ? Molte. davvero molte.

Printer belakangan ini sudah semakin murah. Namun jika tiap komputer harus punya satu printer itu namanya pemborosan. Pemakaian printer yang di beberapa warnet yang punya puluhan klien saja sudah cukup ditangani oleh 2 sampe 3 printer. Sebuah divisi dalam sebuah perusahaan yang punya 10 komputer dalam satu ruangan, menurut saya cukup memiliki maksimal 4 printer saja. kecuali perusahaan percetakan yang kerjanya cetak-mencetak dengan frekuensi yang tinggi. Intinya kalo ngomong soal usaha, biaya produksi bisa dikurangi hanya dengan mengurangi printer. Belum lagi faktor cartridge yang harganya hampir sama dengan harga printer itu sendiri… alamak!

Model pemakaian satu printer untuk beberapa user ini sering dikenal dengan Printer Sharing. Ada beberapa metode yang dapat digunakan untuk membuat beberapa komputer berbagi satu printer. Mulai dari model jaringan LAN, switch printer, bahkan manual switch alias colokin ke komputer jika perlu saja.

Dalam ulasan kali ini saya akan memaparkan langkah-demi-langkah setting printer agar dapat dipakai oleh beberapa komputer dengan memanfaatkan fasilitas File and Printer Sharing punya Windows. Mungkin bagi sebagian dari Anda tulisan ini sudah tidak relevan lagi, tapi tidak mengapa. Saya sengaja memuat kembali tulisan ini untuk menyediakan referensi bagi rekan yang masih membutuhkan. Terlebih lagi cara ini bisa sangat menghemat penggunaan printer terutama untuk Lab, kantor, rental dan Warnet.

Sebelum memulai langkah berikut saya asumsikan Anda telah menyiapkan jaringan LAN Anda. Masing-masing komputer sudah memiliki IP addres yang tepat dan tergabung daam sebuah workgroup. Di sini saya pakai nama default “WORKGROUP” untuk nama network yang saya gunakan.

Jika Anda masih tertarik untuk menyimak langkah pemilihan kabel dan cara membuat krimping kabel UTP untuk jaringan, silakan klik di sini. Soal topologi jaringan, silakan Anda pilih sendiri sesuai keperluan Anda.

Pada proses printer sharing ini ada dua tahap yang perlu dilakukan sebagai berikut:
Pertama, Membuka Fasilitas Sharing Printer pada komputer Host.
Yang dimaksud dengan komputer host adalah komputer yang memiliki printer. Kalo di rental atau warnet, seringkali komputer host ini disebut sebagai server layanan. Printer yang ada di komputer inilah yang nantinya dibagi dan dipake rame-rame dengan memanfaatkan fasilitas File and Printer Sharing Windows. Namun ada baiknya Anda pastikan terlebih dahulu bahwa driver printer sudah terinstall dan dapat berjalan dengan baik.
Selanjutnya lakukan langkah berikut:

1. Buka Control Panel > Printer and Faxes, klik kanan pada Printer Anda > Pilih Sharing. Dalam contoh ini saya pakai printer HP Deskjet 4300 Series.
   
2. Selanjutnya akan muncul Tab Sharing Properties seperti di bawah ini. Pastikan Anda memilih Checkbox Share this printer, Beri nama sesuka Anda dan akhiri dengan klik OK. Jika ada permintaan CD Windows, atau konfirmasi dari printer sharing, pilih “Just Enable File and Printer Sharing” dan Klik OK.
   

Sampai di sini setting komputer host sudah selesai.

Selanjutnya Tahap kedua, yakni Setting Printer di komputer klien. Berikut langkah-langkahnya:

1. Buka Control Panel > Printer and Faxes > Pada tab di sebelah kiri pilih Add a Printer. Lebih jelasnya perhatikan gambar berikut:
   
2. Selanjutnya akan terbuka Add Printer Wizard, Klik Next
   
   
3. Pilih tipe printer yang akan digunakan, pastikan Anda memilih Network Printer > Next
   
   
4. Browse printer pada jaringan Anda, pastikan Anda tidak salah alamat akhiri dengan Next
   
   
5. Komputer akan mengkonfirmasi apakah Printer Jaringan ini akan dijadikan Printer Utama? Pilih sesuai kebutuhan. Saya menyarankan Anda pilih Yes > Next
   
   
6. Akhiri Wizard dengan klik Finish.
   

That’s it. Anda sudah berhasil mengkoneksikan komputer klien ke printer jaringan. Berikutnya, silakan Anda print sebuah dokumen dari komputer klien menggunakan printer yang baru saja Anda setting. Semoga berhasil!

I’ve just done a simple wipe-with-tissue clean on the print head (PH) of my customer’s brother MFC-5840CN printer… its my first time disassembling brother printer…

and luckily i didnt spoil it… haha… coz most of the time i disassemble printer, it end in dustbin…

well, even though i didn’t do a thorough cleaning like the video instructed (soaking the PH in warm water and wipe with alcohol.. dont dare to do it, not my printer…), but it still improves, now the black prints out more… i’ll just need to do more of the standard cleaning from the maintenance option…
