An escaped prisoner from England, is on the run, but he is still finding time to update his Facebook status!

CNN.com is reporting that...Craig Lynch, 28, escaped Hollesley Bay open prison near Suffolk, eastern England, back in September, but has continued to update his Facebook status regularly — describing everything from his meals to who his next girlfriend will be.

Even though he is updating his status, and letting us all know what he will do next,..the authorities still seem to find him to be elusive.

Maybe he is lying about what he is actually up to, just like so many people on Facebook, just to throw the police off.

I think they would be wise to be skeptical about the truthfulness of his post, and do some real police work and find him.

Other than that, this takes the term ‘cyber-criminal’ to a whole different level!

U.S. sends 12 Guantanamo detainees to home countries

Twelve inmates have been transferred from the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to Afghanistan, Yemen and the breakaway Somali enclave of Somaliland, the U.S. Justice Department said on Sunday.

Six Yemeni and four Afghan detainees were sent over the weekend to their home countries while two Somalis were transferred to regional authorities in Somaliland, an self-governing region within Somalia, the department said.

The transfers are the latest from the controversial prison President Barack Obama has pledged to close next month, but that deadline will likely be missed because of diplomatic and political hurdles…

What a wonderful gift to terrorists everywhere all around the world. Just in time for the holidays!

Here is another story of a terrorist Obama sent home to Afghanistan:

Mohammed Jawad was accused of throwing a grenade that injured two U.S. soldiers and their interpreter in Kabul in 2002. Jawad, one of the youngest prisoners held at the facility, was now with his family in Kabul, according to his lawyer Air Force Major David Frakt.
Mr. Jawad was seen by an Afghan policeman throwing the grenade at the US soldiers, killing one and wounding another and their interpreter.
Mr. Jawad’s partner was grabbed while in the process of throwing another grenade.
And, Mr. Jawad had two more grenades on his person at the time of his arrest.
Lastly, as we have also already noted, Mr. Jawad confessed to his crimes at least twice – once to the Afghan police and then to the US authorities.
There has been no suggestion that the Americans tortured him.
But never mind all of that.
One of the themes of the Obama regime seems to be ‘guilty as hell, free as a bird.’
Of course this is exactly what one should expect from a Justice Department headed by someone (Eric Holder) whose law firm defended Guantanamo Detainees

Now this man, Jawad, is suing the U.S. Government and he is being backed by Afghan President Karzai!

Yet another Ramadan present from Mr. Obama.

This man is a murder, a terrorist and we give him up. Thanks Barack Hussein Obama, once again your have done the WRONG THING!

As hundreds of people stood to their feet lifting their voices in song and praise, I felt a change i

As hundreds of people stood to their feet lifting their voices in song and praise, I felt a change in the atmosphere. I had never attended an event so full of life, love, passion, and desire. These young men and women were in love with Jesus Christ. They were the living testimony of His good works and the many blessings He had placed on their lives.

The next artist walked on to the stage and greeted the worshipers in the audience. He shared his testimony and introduced their song. The musicians were on point and we were ushered into another praise song. The beats were crazy. Everyone was into the song, but did anyone really hear the lyrics? I wonder if this is a prime example of what happens when the beats pull us in and we neglect to listen closely to the lyrics?

As I listened closely to the lyrics of the song, I was left puzzled. I later turned to my cousin who had the same puzzled expression on his face. We paused and listened closer to the lyrics of the song, which said, “I am a prisoner of Christ?”

What? I am a prisoner of Christ? Does that even make sense? Is that even possible? No, no, and definitely a big NO! The wonderful thing about Jesus Christ and His love for us is that we are given free will. Since the beginning of time, Jesus gave Adam and Eve the freedom to do His will or fulfill their own desires. They had the ability to choose right from wrong. Even after they sinned and until today, we still have free will. We can choose to come to church or stay home. Sadly, many Christians have chosen the latter. Granted, there are many reasons why one has made their personal decision to stay home instead of attending a church service. However, if you have a problem with your church, there are millions of other churches around the world to choose from.

Am I a prisoner of Christ? Well what does the word, “prisoner” mean? According to dictionary.com, a prisoner is a person or thing that is deprived of liberty or kept in restraint. The second definition is a person who is confined in prison or kept in custody, esp. as the result of legal process. So with those definitions in mind, I couldn’t possibly be a prisoner of Christ.

I have the liberty to worship Christ or not. The beauty of that decision is He will love us regardless. I am not confined. Christ would never confine those who follow Him. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for those of the world. With all decisions, there are consequences. To love Christ means that you must be willing to die for your faith. Christians will have a difficult time trying to stay faithful, because we will be forced to conform our ways to that of the world. We know that as Christians we must stand out, because the ways of the world are against the Bible. Times are easy now for some, but life will become quite uncomfortable over time for true believers. To hate Christ means that you will not gain eternal life. Once you know the end result of either path, it’s still your choice to identify which is the best route.

I sense some of my readers may ask, are we prisoners of Satan if not Christ? I would still have to say no. He doesn’t have the ability to imprison us. It boils down to our decision to follow one versus the other. It’s not too late to switch armies. Keep in mind, time is of the essence. For those of you who are still stuck at the fork in the road, choose Christ. Then proudly proclaim that you are a soldier of Christ, not His prisoner. I have!

By Cara Sulieman THE CHRISTMAS menu for some of Scotland’s most dangerous prisoners has been reveale

By Cara Sulieman

THE CHRISTMAS menu for some of Scotland’s most dangerous prisoners has been revealed, with a mouth-watering selection of meals available.

With breakfast, lunch and tea being offered, the Scottish Prison Service said “nice food eases tension in jail”.

But many will be angered as they struggle to feed their family during the recession whilst lags tuck in to tasty turkey and trimmings.

The spoilt cons will be tucking into chicken or nut roast for lunch followed by Black Forest gateaux.

Luke Mitchell

And for their tea they can look forward to turkey and trimmings or mushroom stroganoff with basmati rice.

Luke Mitchell, 21, who was jailed in 2005 for killing his girlfriend Jodi Jones, will be one of the violent criminals enjoying the luxurious food at Shotts Prison in Lanarkshire.

But the menu has raised questions about how appropriate it is to provide such items to prisoners when Scottish families are struggling to make Christmas special in the credit crunch.

Matthew Elliott, from the Taxpayers’ Alliance, said: “Many law-abiding taxpayers will be outraged that inmates are enjoying luxurious food while many families are struggling to raise the funds for a decent spread.”

But a SPS source said: “Nice food eases the tension in jail.”

Full Menu

Breakfast: Frosties, sausage, roll, pint of milk, coffee

Lunch: Chicken breast with mushroom sauce and bacon with olive stuffing, creamed and roast potatoes and vegetables or Nut roast puff with grilled tomato stuffing, creamed and roast potatoes and vegetables.

Dessert: Black Forest Gateaux

Tea: Turkey, beef and ham and chipped potatoes or mushroom stroganoff and basmati rice.

KARACHI: The Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station here has registered an FIR for the kidnapping of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, along with her three minor children. The FIR was lodged against personnel of an unidentified law-enforcement agency, and a case was filed on the complaint of Dr Aafia’s sister.

Gulshan-e-Iqbal SHO Rustam Nawaz said they received a complaint from Dr Fauzia Siddiqui in which she stated that her younger sister, Dr Aafia Siddiqui, resident of House No: 140E, Block 7, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, on March 30, 2003, left the house for the Karachi airport, along with her three children, to board a flight to Rawalpindi. She, along with her three children, was kidnapped by a member of an unidentified law-enforcement agency en route to the airport.

SHO Nawaz said the complainant further alleged she had also submitted many applications to police stations concerned as well as government officials, including ministers, but to date no action had taken place nor was it clear which agency had kidnapped her younger sister. Furthermore, subsequently it came to their knowledge that Dr Aafia Siddiqui is in an American jail, facing trial.

SHO Nawaz said the application was forwarded to his seniors and after getting their approval, FIR-773/09 was lodged for the kidnapping of Dr Aafia Siddiqui along with her three minor children against unidentified persons or LEA personnel.

If this is not a felony what is? A person being held prisoner is a felnoy and they should serve jail time! This happend in Chilton,Wisconson, the two women accused were seeking revenge on this guy for cheating on them, they lured the brotha to a motel and tied him to a bed and forty-eight-year-old Therese Ziemann and her sister forty-three-year-old Michelle Belliveau tied him up and commenced to gluing his swipe to his stomach! Now you know people if this was a sista doing it to a white boy they asses would be under the damn jail, instead the D.A.{Ken Kratz} allowed them to plea bargain and not get any jail time which is a travesty of justice, you say “well he cheated” so what, you don’t go around doing stuff like that just because!!! You leave his ass alone and move on with your life

Poor Peter MacKay.

Not since his heartbreaking split with nepotism-soaked heiress Belinda Stronach a few years ago have we seen such a flustered Minister of Defense. Peter McKay faced loud and sometimes obnoxious calls to resign by members of the opposition this week, capping off a week that brought the prisoner abuse scandal to a new level.

After years of steadfast claims that Canada has never acted improperly when handing detainees over to Afghan officials on the battlefield, a field report surfaced that showed one detainee had been photographed with Canadian soldiers before being handed over and subsequently abused at the hands of his Afghan captors. Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff lambasted both Prime Minister Harper and MacKay after General Walter Natynczyk acknowledged that the military had been aware that transferred prisoners risked being abused. The report contained a note from a Canadian soldier stating the following – “we then photographed the individual prior to handing him over to ensure that if the Afghan National Police did assault him, as has happened in the past, that we would have a visual record of his condition.” The field report is dated 2006 and was apparently only discovered on Wednesday morning by General Natynczyk.

The opposition leaders and back-benchers took turns calling for MacKay’s resignation both directly and through the PM.

Coincidentally, MacKay was scheduled to appear in front of a parliamentary committee concerning Afghanistan on Wednesday afternoon, where he once again faced scathing criticism from opposition members. The government has consistently stated they have no credible evidence of detainees being tortured after being in Canadian custody, and attempted to spin the controversy into ‘military bashing’ by the Liberals and other opposition parties.

This desperation tactic may be a watershed moment for the parliament as they head into the holidays. The new developments related to the military police complaints commission’s stated determination to begin hearings in March over Afghan detainees, but many on the Hill feel the Conservative government will not appoint a new commissioner in time. 340, 000 documents currently being reviewed and redacted may thwart the committee’s ability to uncover the underlying issues. The government has stated the redacted material are a matter of “operational safety” for the troops still stationed overseas. Michael Ignatieff sees it differently.

“This is a government that tried to strangle the military police commission from the beginning,” Ingatieff stated. He added, “The risk of putting anybody in operational danger is about zero . . . It’s too ridiculous to discuss.”

You’ve Come A Long Way, Baby!

By Christy Lee

Copyright 2001-09

“I am forty-three,” I was thinking back in 1994 as I turned the cold key in the ignition. It wasn’t an earth-shattering statement, after-all. The engine had sputtered, choked, then coughed to a dead silence. I remembered the cigarette commercial that bragged, “You’ve come a long way, baby!”

I could hear the heater fan whirring inside the cracked dash as the fan motor tried in vain to blow the cold air into the car. I sat quietly for a moment, contemplating the path that had lead me to this point. I certainly didn’t feel, at that moment, like I had come such a long way.

As I turned the key again I felt the car shudder. It was the same involuntary reaction I had experienced just moments before as I had stepped out into the pre-dawn air, a moment in time that marked the first day of the rest of my life.

My eighteen-year-old son must have worried over these same decisions just months before as he was looking into the future after graduation. What did I want to be when I grew up? It is such a difficult decision. For the first time I could empathize with his struggle.

My breath hung heavily in the frigid January darkness. I ran my fingers gently over the smooth glass of the frostless windows. The car, sitting snug and protected within the aging garage, still groaned in protest as I held the ignition key in place and pumped the gas pedal. I remember worrying that the car would not start and I would miss out on something–but I didn’t know what that something was at the time. I just knew that I must get to the tech school no matter what.

I had made my decision, the only one I could make at forty-three. I was going back to school to become employable. It was a daunting task for me. I had spent most of my married life at home, raising children and taking care of a household. I was ill prepared to go out into the world alone. I was unskilled to perform more than menial tasks. I knew that I could handle the grill at a fast food restaurant or a steam press at a dry cleaning establishment, but the business world was something foreign and frightening. I had held my foot lightly on the pedal as a precaution. The engine began to voice a hesitant whine. “School waits for no woman,” I had laughed silently.

Only a few car lights dotted the roadway at this early hour. I turned onto the main road that snaked its way to the technical college. Amber lights, blinking a warning as I passed under them, seemed to fade in the odd mist that rose from the asphalt. Houses lined the streets. Here and there a warm window light seeped through the curtain of mist and darkness. Heavy dew-touched smoke clouds hovered eerily above the chimney tops, hinting at the fires that flamed cozily within the darkened homes. I resented the warmth and security that the lighted windows evoked. I didn’t feel safe or secure. I looked at my watch. It was 7:15 a.m. I laughed nervously.

It was that nervous laugh I hated so much. It was my mother’s laugh that always seemed to apologize for being alive. I hated that laugh. I had not even realized that I too used that laugh during therapy sessions. I too used it to defuse feelings of incompetence and fear of being rejected. It was there to tell everyone that what I was about to say would probably be stupid or silly and that they could not object to what I was about to share because I was stupid or silly. I hated that laugh, but it was there, just the same. After that revelation I had promised myself that I would not do that again to myself. But, programming is difficult to eliminate entirely. It was one of the many battles I have fought since that moment of awareness.

I remember thinking that in a few moments I would be putting my escape plan into action. I would walk into a classroom that would provide me with the education and training necessary to walk away from my twenty-two-year mistake.

It was sad that after twenty-two years there was nothing left of the two people who had expressed such high hopes and vibrant dreams for the future. Now, there was nothing but an empty shell of a marriage that contained two strangers who seldom talked to each other and who were on the verge of destroying the bonds they had once sworn to maintain…”until death do we part”. Isn’t the death of an emotional bond still a death?

Perhaps I had misinterpreted this particular part of my marriage vows. I had thought that it meant the physical death of my partner. However, I failed to consider the emotional death that occurs when a relationship suffers from lack of nurturing and broken trust.

The parkway twisted and turned. I could feel the steady drum of the tires as they skimmed the icy surface of the road. My fingers twitched and danced on the frozen steering wheel. I had forgotten to put a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator. Without it, the tiny heater would not be able to heat the interior of the car. It was one draw back of owning an old Chevette.

Most of my life I had been told to not want more than my station would allow. I was from a blue-collar family, destined to do no more than work for a living at some blue-collar job. My escape plan was designed to change that. I wanted more from my life. I had settled far too long and now I was not willing to be placated by the status quo. There had to be something more out there. I was driven to find out.

There were only a few cars parked at this early morning hour. I guided the “Gray Goat” as I called my 1978 Chevette, into a parking space on the south end of the lot. The car slid to a stop with a jerk as the tires hit the curb with a thud.

I remember closing my eyes, breathing deeply in the warming air as the heater fan groaned and worked to push the chilled air out through the heat ducts. The small motor churned away, a fruitless attempt on this winter morning, But I had made it, after all.

I remembered focusing on my breathing. I visualized pushing an imaginary golden cord into the earth from my first Chakra point. Meditation had gotten me through some pretty tough spots in the last year and I needed to center myself before walking into the classroom. Fear was creeping into my thoughts, threatening to create a panic attack. It would prevent me from accomplishing my escape plan. The panic attacks had kept me shackled in a loveless marriage. I would not allow them to stop me now.

I then focused only on the life-giving strength that flowed through the cord, clearing the seven Chakra points throughout my body. I pushed all the stress and fear down the chord and into the earth as I had learned from my meditation coach.

It was amazing that self-doubt had been at the route of my panic attacks, and my fears in general. As I gained emotional strength through meditation and through facing my fears head on, I found them diminishing. The isolation that had become my life only fostered more self-doubt and fears, which aggravated the panic attacks. It had become a viscous cycle.

When my ritual was complete and my breathing was calm and steady, I opened my eyes. The classroom was in the building directly to my west. Tall, silver poles, like the Pillars of Hercules, marked the entrance to the mechanical building with flags that flapped loudly and cracked in the wind. I watched, mesmerized by the twisting and gyrating as they whipped the curtain of air from their lofty perches. It had seemed at the moment that all my senses had become hyper-vigilant. Sounds seemed louder. Smells were more acrid. Tastes were more pronounced. It was amazing what the mind could do.

I walked towards the flags. “Not bad,” I had thought, “for a person who had once suffered from agoraphobia.” As I watched the steady trail of students filtering into the steel doors at the entrance to the building, I knew…”I’m not like my mother at all!”

…She would have never risked my father’s anger. She would have avoided anything that might have triggered his violence. She would not have ventured outside the walls of the illusion she had created in order to survive. She would never have risked his hurtful and humiliating insults that would drag her back into the role he had chosen for her. She would have, instead, existed in a safe fantasy world of her own making.

That had once been me. I had almost succumbed to the panic attacks that had kept me a prisoner in my own home. I had learned my lessons well–learning that life was a frightening proposition. I had been taught to fear men and to sacrifice my true self to them, accepting my lot in life with a smile and a hidden tear. It was the payment for being taken care of–for being “safe”.

I had learned to not rise above my financially imposed status–to accept without question and be grateful for what I had. After all, I was a woman, and women had to be taken care of. We were inferior to men. We were property.

And, it almost worked. I almost believed it. Luckily, there was a small voice deep inside that refused to be silenced. It had nagged me, berated me, and demanded that I listen. When I finally opened my mind and my heart to the voice I found that it was my soul crying out for freedom. That was the beginning of this miraculous journey to freedom.

I am free now. I am involved in a journey that will push me to the limits of my abilities. I will be called upon to risk, to prove myself, and to do…and I will make it! I have broken out of a self-imposed shell of fear to become the person I was destined to become. When I think of where it all started, I can honestly say, “You have come a long way, baby!”

That was 1994 and as a result of my personal journey I now can give back and share with you the things you will need to make your escape… or, if you have already escaped, I can help you learn to, not just survive, but to thrive. Welcome Home!!!!!!

Ok, so we over here at Evotek Media Group think it might be cool to present some news on a semi regular basis, some of it relevant, most of it however, NOT. Read on Bitches…

Hello, and welcome to EMG news!! Haaaaaa

Stuff You Look At:

Ok, so in recent “Heroes” (AD* 11/30/09) news, Magneto

is close to finishing his round-up of the “Brotherhood of Evil Mutants”.
Quicksilver, however,

has finally run away from the Brotherhood, cuz he’s a bitch like that.
Flash FTW!!!!!

Barry Allen’s Flash anyways

Um yeah, that’s all I’m watching right now, oh snap naw The Prisoner!!!
The exclamation points are for the 1967 version, one of the best all time series ever! That is fact. The story revolves around a British secret agent that is kidnapped and sent to some unknown island somewhere. On this island they put this guy through all sorts a shit to try and find out why he quit his job so suddenly, and oh man this guy is just fucking smart and has Ali’s hand skills, which is essentially a recipe for KICKASS. Seriously this guy can fly planes and build cars and boats. And he’s the original guy on crazy island, he could figure out ABC’s “Lost” in about 3 minutes. Check this ultra badass out;

Anyways they remade it on AMC, and it just fucking sucks. like seriously. They’ve changed the storyline drastically, and each change seemed to be for the worst. It seems like they just “shat” all over the story and called it “modernization”. I guess. But Magneto’s in it,

yeah, that one.
Ok so AMC’s only saving grace is that they have the ENTIRE 1967 series on their site!! Link below
http://www.amctv.com/originals/the-prisoner-1960s-series/
Do yourself a favor and look at the old one before you look at the new, or skip the new series entirely.

Games:

In video game news, predictions were true regarding Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2.

It is, in actuality the most awesome game to come out in 2009! I’m saying that mostly because I bought into the insurmountable hype surrounding this game, and was actually not let down, though this game almost fell victim to the “sequel” disease, where things start to get kinda preachy and unnecessarily deep (Matrix, Halo, Gears of War, me at your mother’s place) .

It’s usually downhill from there. Thankfully COD MW2 averted “sequel” contamination by not including oracles and just giving us a bunch a shit to shoot.

3 new characters were announced for Super Street Fighter IV!
Cody, Guy, and Adon were added to the mix.

So, along with Juri, T-hawk, and Dee Jay the current new character count is 6, with more to come I’ve been told (source- the Internets). That’s awesome except I don’t care about any of these guys. Dudley, anyone?

Honestly, SFIV is a broken game imho, the character animations, parry system, and collision detection were top-notch in SFIII, and I don’t care how cool Daigo looks playing SFIV Ryu.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaO024g4WXs
SFIV is fail overall for me. At least if Dudley is there I can have some fun playing the dumb ass thing.

In internal EMG news that we care to talk about, we went filming and stuff. I don’t know how much of this stuff we can talk about, or how interesting it is. But, stay tuned for updates!! We’ll let you know what’s going on as it happens!

Today’s Would You Hit is She hulk. The chick got all big and green after getting a blood transfusion from her cousin, Bruce Banner a.k.a. The Hulk. I can get more into her story, but I don’t give a shit I’d hit!!!!

Over the last few weeks I’ve been reading a lot about the decision by President Obama and his administration to have a few of the prisoners at Gitmo, including the infamous Khalid Sheik Mohammed (KSM), have their trials in U.S. Civilian Court rather than in a Military Tribunal. My first reaction to the decision was automatically that they were “Enemy Combatants” and they should be tried in a Military Tribunal. There was the thought in the back of my head though, that in either, they’d be tried, convicted, and justice would be served. But, the more I read, the more I say, “hold on a minute”. There are a lot of questions I’ve started asking myself especially since reading this article from CNSNews.com (Sen. Conrad Suggests That People Who Don’t Believe in Civilian Trials for Terrorists Should Leave America and ‘Go Somewhere Else’).

So, what happens in a Civilian Court if evidence hasn’t been collected? What happens if they were never read their Miranda Rights? What happens if their confession (yes, these detainees did confess) is not admissible because it is considered to have been coerced out of them? What happens if their attorney decides to have them plead “insanity”? What if there is some type of technicality and, hey, they’re off, free as can be? There are many other questions that come to mind, but I want to keep this kind of short and not drag on.

Now, the administration tries to reassure us that there is no way that the detainees would NOT be convicted, but can they really say that? I mean, isn’t it logical that if they are to uphold the laws and how they apply to a Civil Trial, that there is indeed the possibility that the terrorists might go free? But, that raises another question in my mind. Are they so certain the detainees will be convicted because the Administration and the Justice Department just plan on running rough-shod over the laws governing a Civil Trial? If they do that, then what kind of precedence does that set going forward for our judicial system for all of us?

The following article from American Thinker (Get-out-of-jail-free card for terrorists?), addresses these issue very well. I think it is a very bad decision to hold these trials in Civilian Court. I believe it opens up too many chances for these terrorists to get off on some sort of technicality. They are not U.S. Citizens and frankly have no right to a trial in our courts anyway.

What are your thoughts on this? Let me know.

It’s finally time for John Demjanjuk, former Nazi internment camp guard known as “Ivan the Terrible,” to face the music for the atrocities he committed at the jewish death camp known as Treblinka and Sobibor extermination camps.

During the period 1942–1943 Demjanjuk committed murder and acts of extraordinarily savage violence against camp prisoners,as an act of loyalty to Hitler.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Demjanjuk

The 89-year-old retired Ohio autoworker arrived at the opening of the trial in a wheelchair to face the final chapter of some 30 years of efforts to prosecute him, wearing a navy baseball cap and covered in a light blue blanket.

At 89, Ivan the Terrible looks…terrible.

He appears to be a slobbering, shaking, infirmed shell of a man, who is deserving of all the prosecutions efforts to convict him of the Nazi’s crimes against humanity, and more directly, the murder of 27,900 Jews at the Nazi death camps.

Lawyer Ulrich Busch said “How can you say that those who gave the orders were innocent … and the one who received the orders is guilty?”

“There is a moral and legal double standard being applied today.”

Introduction Has it really been nearly two weeks since my last post? Regular updates are pretty daun

Introduction

Has it really been nearly two weeks since my last post? Regular updates are pretty daunting, I want to produce a lot of useful content but also keep friends and family up-to-date on my life. This has created a dynamic tension whereby I can’t bring myself to post any sort of update at all until I feel sufficiently guilty enough to shunt (it feels like shunting) one out. I’m going to try to keep this update pretty light but satisfying in both criteria if possible. I am also adding in little headings, no reason, I think that it looks nice.

Why you should feel sorry for me

Anyway, I am starting to write this at 0800 in the morning because (as you may have picked up from my disgruntled twitter/facebook updates, should you be in a position to read them) I spontaneously woke up at the ungodly hour of 0530 AM this morning for reasons unbeknownst to me. I think my brain must have been really chewing over the Korean I learned just before bed because I woke up with a mind full of Korean words and spelling.

The past – hazy memories

I’m going to treat a whole bunch of stuff since my last update as “memory block” as I am having to comb over my old twitter stream just to find out what I have been up to. These may take the form of declarative statements since I may have shed any emotional connection to these historical neuro-artefacts. Also my current state of proto-brain is not capable of any feeling beyond those associated with food, fire and territory.

빼빼로 (pepero) day happened on the 11th of September. This is a nonsense non-celebration when all Korean kids and teens give each other pepero which you may know better by it’s Anglicised Japanese name (for it is the same product) Pocky. Legend (!) has it that some kids from Busan (city in the south of South Korea) noticed that the numbers of the day and the month looked like four of these biscuit sticks lined up. Some say that this is marketing bullshit invented by the company who worked up a way to sell 55% of their yearly stock on a single day. Personally, I couldn’t give a shit, all I know is that I got a crap load of them from the kids and that they are going to go crazy-go-nuts in 2011.

빼빼로 day bounty

I finally got my banking set up so if you want to wire me money, let me know, we can make it happen. God I love money.

I had a pretty good storytime class last week, one of the Korean teachers managed to get hold of some worms and I had a pretty fun time with six sets of disgusted and screaming, then curious, then worm-loving children. I love showing kids invertebrates. They so often follow the same pattern, even the terrified girls. When I left one particular class they were all saying a Korean sentence in union(I have consulted a teacher, it was “이거 키워도 돼요?”). The Korean teacher told them what it was in English and suddenly I was surrounded by kids chorusing: “Can I raise? Can I raise?”.

It has also got pretty crapping cold, I have bought two coats and some tights. Yeah.

This weekend

Back in the near-past, this Saturday just gone we celebrated American Thanksgiving. I have never had one of these, what with me being of the British Isles but it was certainly a fantastic event. We had previously headed out to the Western food selling wholesalers in Seoul and bought a nice big turkey and a lot of Christmas-style food. This was accompanied on the table by some American food that I had never previously had such as creamed corn, pumpkin pie and apple-snickers salad. I say salad, it was actually chunks of apples and snickers mixed into sweetened whipped cream. It was also eaten during the savoury part of the meal, sounds gross and it actually kinda was but I enjoyed it nevertheless. Thank you America.

Thankyou-day party

Earlier on in the day before the food was done I had visited a hagwon from the same franchise in 구리 (Guri). I had visited with the intention of getting a job for Rich, my mate from home. In fact I was met with confused expressions every time I fielded this proposal and instead paraded in front of a group of parents of potential students. On the upside my pockets were stuffed with ₩60,000 (a cool £30) for 40 minutes work plus travel time. Nice-uh.

Hanguko and Hanja

With a stomach of leftovers and port the next morning I headed to 종각역 (Jonggak station) to a bookshop called Bandi & Luni, who have a large English language section and a vast array of delightful stationary. My mission was to find some Korean Language learning books in English. I was successful in this but I accomplished so much more when I found a massive array of Christmas cards. For some reason greetings cards are difficult to come by in Korea.

I also picked up an English book that teaches about Hanja. These are the basic 1,800 Chinese characters that Korean students learn with the Korean and Chinese name with Korean pronunciation, and teaches it as such. These are pretty interesting and I may return with a little blog post all about these. In the meantime, I’m going to leave you with this character – my currently favourite. It’s meaning is “prisoner”. It is as you can see, a picture of a man in a box:

Or you might just see the box if you don’t have Chinese character support. Install it now damn you.

Edit: I have replaced the inferior text character with a nice shiny image file from Naver, so everyone with an image supporting browser should be able to see it. Although you should totally install the language packs.

A prisoner exchange deal securing the release of kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit will be executed this Friday, Saudi network al-Arabiya reported Sunday, quoting sources in the Hamas organization.According to the report, 450 Palestinian prisoners will be released to the Gaza Strip and West Bank in exchange for Shalit’s transfer to Egypt. Shalit was kidnapped into Gaza 1,246 days ago.

The al-Arabiya report added that the Hamas leadership from Damascus would meet with the Hamas leadership from Gaza in Cairo on Monday, to discuss the latest offer submitted by Israel.

Sources in Gaza told Ynet that significant progress had been made over the past few days in the talks for the prisoner exchange deal, and that the last obstacles – related to a number of prisoners from the leadership of Hamas’ military wing – could be removed by Friday, the first day of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha.
