Last year was a strange year for Football games. On a very personal level, 2009 was the first time I bought a FIFA game in eleven years. My long streak with Konamis football games starting from ISS Pro ‘98 and finishing with Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 was mirrored by most of the football gaming population. Konamis dominance throughout the PS2 era is well documented as being pretty unchallenged by EA. But with a new hardware increase came a new level of depth in FIFA, one that Konami just couldnt mirror with Pro Evolution Soccer. 2009 managed to change long allegiances and show a FIFA game that really had evolved and definately hadnt entered this competition to recieve a runners-up medal.

FIFA 10 shows just how far EA are willing to go to regain the footballing top spot. When you first enter the game it looks as though much has remained the same from FIFA 09 its when you start your first match that you realise how different FIFA 10 is. For a start there is awhole new level of control available. The previous 8 directions of controls have gone full 360 degrees meaning the most realistic dribbling of any game, ever. Overall control is unbelievably fluid and players like Rooney, Drogba and Ronaldinho have their own unique flair and style. Basically, the game plays like a dream.

All of last years modes are here. From the new and improved live season to the classic tournaments and cups. A more indepth Virtual Pro mode and a more robust manager mode really add replay value. Online modes are better than ever and the overal community (with replays, screenshots and custom leagues) feels completely fleshed out.

The selection of available teams is staggering. All three English leagues are here as well as the MLS, La Liga, Bundesliga, belgian leagues, swiss, austrian, korean and tons more. Still no support for the J-League however which seems like a glaring omission. What you do gain though is up to date lineups, stats and team reports. On top of this the news bar returns in menus giving you the latest real world football scores, a great addition for the fans.

The game suffers from a few long load times but makes up for it with the renewal of the arena kickabout in between menus. The one major problem with the game is the lack of support for non-default controller configurations after setting up four different controller set-ups the game decided to freeze up on me, a problem which has been well documented on messageboards. However this minor problem is easily avoided and can and therefore should be patched.

More animations, ball skills, arenas and a solid frame-rate make the game feel absolutely complete and where last years title felt like a massive step forward to next gen footballing, FIFA 10 feels like the perfection of next gen footballing. The best football game up to this point.

I’ve spent most of the day trying to figure out my route for the next month or so, it’s not proving to be easy. Bosnia, Serbia, Montenegro, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Greece, Albania and Macedonia are all on the list but the running order is tricky to work out and is very much still work in progress.

The Balkanology site is a very useful resource for travelling in this region of Europe. The German Rail site is another great resource as it allows you to search for schedules all across the continent, in English too.

Prior to the travel planning I did have a few games of Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 on the PS3 with the guy running the hostel. He beat me 2-1 three consecutive times, soul destroying. It only strengthens my belief that FIFA 2009 is more advanced and superior game without doubt.

I just sorted my ticket to Sarajevo, I’m on a 7 hour bus journey for 190 Kuna. Not too bad.

Then I went for a early evening stroll down the beach a gorgeous level of sunshine nicely accompanied by a cool and refreshing sea breeze made it a nice experience. Of course I stopped off for an obligatory swift Karlovacko at some sort of Hadjuk Split bar.

I’ve been to 3 places in Croatia now (Dubrovnik, Zagreb and Split) and I’ve liked all 3. It looks a good quality of life round this way. I reckon I could get use to it.

Życie to nie gra.

Ostatnio zabrałem się za sprawdzenie kilku pozycji gierkowych, gdyż wieczorową porą miałem nadmiar czasu, a filmów cały czas oglądać nie można.

Na pierwszy ogień poszło Half-Life 2, plus 2 epizody. I muszę stwierdzić, że pomimo tego, że gra jest masakrycznie liniowa, to naprawdę wciąga. Cały czas coś się dzieje, akcja nie zwalnia ani na chwilę. Świetnie wykonane fragmenty, gdzie nad Twoją głową idą wielkie Stridery. Albo jak wielki latający Alient Gunship obstrzeliwuje “stodołę” w której znajdujesz się tylko Ty i masz do dyspozycji RPG. Kawałki drewna i dachu latają Ci koło nosa, a oprócz tego jesteś obstrzeliwany przez wspomnianą maszynę latającą. Coś pięknego. Oczywiście nie muszę wspominać, że oprawa graficzna i dźwiękowa stoją na wysokim poziomie? Jest to gra, w którą trzeba zagrać, nawet jeśli nie jesteś fanem HL.

Po skończeniu Pół-Życia chciałem się zabrać również za jakiegoś FPS’a, więc na linię ognia poszedł Samuel Leo Fisher ze skradanką Splinter Cell: Pandora Tommorow. Niestety nie dało się odpalić na Win7 z bardzo dziwnych powodów, których rozwiązanie znalazłem tylko w szprachen języku. Skoro Pandora nie poszła, to spróbowałem kolejną część, czyli Chaos Theory. Tu już było ładnie i pięknie. Pamiętam jak pojawiła się zapowiedź pierwszej części, to spać po nocach nie mogłem Wyszło demko, które przechodziłem na wszelkie możliwe sposoby. To były czasy. Jedna z lepszych gierek ever. Więc na Chaos Theory byłem jeszcze bardziej napalony. I pomimo tego nie zawiodłem się ani trochę. Wszystko dopracowane na maxa, dopięte na ostatni guzik, zróżnicowane misje, wspaniałe animacje, grafika i muzyka. Oczywiście znalazło by się kilka małych baboli, ale biorąc pod uwagę ogół, można przymknąć na nie oko

A co mogło czekać w kolejce jak nie kolejna część? Zanim spróbowałem pełnej wersji, zaciągnąłem wersję demo, bo słyszałem niezbyt ciekawe opinie o części czwartej. I dobrze, że to zrobiłem, bo Double Agent ssie na maxa! Jak można było skopać tak genialną serię? Sztywne animacje, poziom trudności obniżony, gorsze AI przeciwników. W to się po prostu nie dało grać. Oby kolejna część była tak grywalna jak pierwsze trzy.

Jak już się wciągnąłem w FPS’y to trzeba było w takim transie pozostać. Prince of Persia: Piaski Czasu. Zacząłem grać, ale mnie nie wciągnęła, więc sobie odpuściłem

Call of Juarez, czyli nasz rodzimy rynek. I jak na nasz rodzimy rynek, to gierka jest bardzo dobra. Niestety jak dla mnie za dużo elementów skradankowych. Spodziewałem się od samego początku ścigania dyliżansami, przeskakiwania z konia na konia, szybkiej akcji i pojedynków rewolwerowców (które zapewne są w dalszej części, ale nie dotarłem tam ze względu właśnie motywów skradankowych, które doprowadzały mnie – MNIE!! Człowieka nadzwyczaj spokojnego, do szewskiej pasji). Tak więc odłożyłem ją na czas późniejszy.

I z tego wszystkiego zapuściłem sobie “starego”, dobrego PES’a 2009. Nie ma to jak emocje do samego końca meczu, szczególnie, że włączyłem sobie na wyższym poziomie niż zazwyczaj. Gra się o wiele trudniej, przeciwnicy są bardziej wymagający, ale nie jest tak, że nie idzie wygrać. Da radę. Co prawda nie tak często jak na niższym poziomie (to oczywiste?), ale co to za frajda cały czas wygrywać, zdobywać jak największą ilość punktów i być zawsze pierwszym? Jak dla mnie żadna. Dlatego też wyższy poziom daje nieźle w kości palców i nie zawsze jest tak różowo Ale nie ma to jak intensywny mecz Barcelona vs (chyba) Villareal, gdzie awans dla mnie był tylko przy wygranej. Remis nawet nie wchodził w grę. 2 minuta i strzelają mi brameczkę. 4 minuty później wyrównuję na 1:1. Kolejne 2 minuty później jest 2:1 dla mnie. Potem do 43 minuty wynik bez zmian. W 44 minucie strzelają mi brameczkę do szatni i jest 2:2 do przerwy. Po przerwie szybka akcja Villareal i prowadzą 3:2. Kilka minut później wyrównuję na 3:3. I znowu fragment bezbramkowy, ale z ostrymi akcjami z obu stron. Wybija 89 minuta. Już zmarnowany, przekonany, że awansu nie będzie. Ale akcja z mojej strony, sytuacja podbramkowa w 90 minucie i… karny Szybka przymiarka w prawy górny róg, strzał i GOOOOOOOOOOL!! Bramkarz rzuca się w przeciwną stronę, kibice szaleją, Barca się cieszy. Po chwili rozpoczęcie gry przez Villareal i gwizdek sędziego. Moja zadowolona mina – bezcenna Dla takich chwil warto żyć! Kolejny mecz przegrałem i pożegnałem się z półfinałem

Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 è un’altro capitolo della famosa serie dei Pro Evolution Soccer, che anche questa volta ti presenta come solito punto di forza, la giocabilità…! Questa volta la giocabilità è stata modificata per Pro Evolution Soccer 2009, con importanti aggiunte al sistema Teamvision, tattiche che cambiano a seconda della situazione, e con un’Intelligenza Artificiale che accumula dati in continuazione per riconoscere e rispondere alle tue stragie di gioco. Un’altra modifica apportata a questo Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 è il calcolo sui movimenti delle palla, sugli urti e le impostazioni di tiro che cambiano costantemente la traiettoria della palla, oltre ai nuovi attriti di routine calcolati in base alle condizioni e al tipo di terreno, in modo da far rallentare la palla di conseguenza, e utilizzare in modo più efficace il rimbalzo! I modelli poligonali dei calciatori sono molto simili a quelli reali, soprattutto per quanto riguarda i volti, anche se a dire la verità, in Fifa 2009 sono stati realizzati meglio di questo Pro Evolution Soccer 2009… Il Team di sviluppo, si è concentrato anche su una serie di novità in modo da avvicinare molto le sensazioni del calcio reale a quello in simulazione sui videogiochi, con una miglior interpretazione dei ritmi di gioco e dei comportamenti, della squadra come gruppo, ma anche dei singoli giocatori in azioni solitarie! Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 offre anche una nuova modalità di gioco chiamata ‘Diventa una Leggenda’, molto simile a ‘Be a Pro’ della serie EA Sports Fifa, ma sinceramente non penso che questo Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 possa fare dei grandi numeri nonostante le migliorie apportate… Mi sa che bisogna aspettare il prossimo Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 per vedere un videogioco calcistico al di fuori fi Fifa, che conti veramente e che soddisfi in pieno i desideri di ogni videogiocatore appassionato di calcio!!

Para os fãs do futebol da Konami, indiscutivelmente o melhor simulador de futebol para a maioria do público, já da para começar a pensar no que vem por aí no Pro Evolution Soccer 2010.

As informações são de Seabass, o produtor-executivo do game e o principal articulador na implementação de novas mudanças na jogabilidade do jogo.

Em relação as primeiras revelações sobre o PES 2010, diz-nos:

Estamos com um pequeno sabor amargo pela nossa edição de 2009 e pretendemos incorporar muitas coisas que os usuários nos têm pedido, e porque sabemos disso passo a dar alguns exemplos. Vamos-nos dedicar muito aos jogadores, não só aos seus rostos e aos seus movimentos, mas também em coisas além do normal, como em entrevistas de televisão no final de cada jogo, os milhares de coisas a acrescentar ao modo “become a legend”, e também uma característica que é importante para nós que são os estádios, queremos dar o maior realismo ao jogo, melhoraremos o público para que interligue e interacione mais com os jogos, também os arcos é uma propriedade muito importante para o estádio, tanto quanto as redes. Planeamos um novo modo de jogo, mas não quero divulgar isso porque ainda estamos em dúvida se a vamos incorporar nesta nova versão. Será também possível personalizar as bandeiras de cada equipa escrevendo tudo o que o utilizador quiser. As falhas do PES 2009 não passaram despercebidas pelo grande número de fãs que temos no mundo e não queremos deixa-los insatisfeitos. Eu mesmo já vi o quanto a FIFA tem crescido e desde que existe international super star soccer que eles são a nossa concorrência. Por outro lado, estamos muito atentos à questão das licenças. Embora a Champions League já esteja no jogo, estamos preocupados com o licenciamento da Liga espanhola, e também adicionar mais tipos de bolas e botas. Os kits são ainda uma questão não resolvida tal como a questão da publicidade sobre os mesmos. Temos também trabalhado muito no motor gráfico para aproveitar ao máximo as consolas next-gen , mas é um problema para os utilizadores de PC que não podemos esquece-los. Sabemos de todos os “patches” que são feitos pelas comunidades e são realmente muito bons. Agradeço e felicito essas pessoas pelo seu trabalho. Teremos a possibilidade de o utilizador inserir a sua música facilmente com utilitários para PC e Xbox e PS.
