It wasn’t too long ago when we found out that the Need For Speed franchise would be no more.  Now it seems that three new iterations of the franchise are set to hit consoles in the next year with Need for Speed: Shift being the first.  But is it really worth reviving the Need For Speed?

I feel that Need For Speed: Most Wanted was the best in the series up to now. If you’re wondering why I make such a bold statement, well because the game was fun and exciting. It was a mix between sim and arcade and handled both elements well, offering what I must say was the best cockpit view in a racer in the past few years.

Need For Speed: Carbon when released, was an abysmal racer of a game alongside Need For Speed: Pro Street which felt like driving a boat in enclosed tracks whilst earning enough money every 10 races to only be able to upgrade 1 part.

Undercover looked to change that and go back to the Most Wanted days but unfortunately that also disappointed greatly and made everyone lose faith in what Need For Speed could offer as a game.

Having heard the worries that the game would be another Need For Speed: Pro Street and fail, I must say ever since seeing it in action at E3 and giving it a spin for myself, I knew that many, if not all, the doubtful would be left silenced and have their minds changed with such a great game.

Need For Speed: Shift puts the pedal to the metal on almost all aspects of the game: the graphics are amazing, the sheer sense of speed when doing 200+km/h in the exotic cars is there and the excitement of perfectly executing a corner to overtake your opponent only to get taken out by a dirty nudge is also there.

It’s a racer that challenges yet still manages to not frustrate to the point where the game in unplayable and the controller is thrown on the ground. What it does is manage to show you to never judge a book by its cover.

While it may not feature the 400+ cars that Forza 3 may provide, it still allows the gamer to race in some of the most expensive cars available on the market today, and gives them a sense of weight whilst driving them on the road to boot.

Some may argue that NFS: Shift’s physic are absolute horrid compared to that of Race Pro etc.. as they receive too many death wobbles whilst driving which is unnatural, but to me I’ve only felt death wobbles in certain areas where the track goes all bumpy.

It certainly is apparent when trying to control a Tier 3/4 car maxed out with upgrades though as the sheer speed of the car is absolutely crazy and racing on tight corner tracks trying to get the best lap time is almost impossible but challenging.

And in terms of challenging, the Career Mode of Shift follows the same staple path as Pro Street minus the annoying commentator always yapping off about everything, except this time around you have 4 different tiers you must unlock by achieving stars which are achievable within each race.

You gain stars for achieving a podium finish, stars for achieving a set number of points and usually a star for achieving a special accomplishment within the race at hand. On top of that are the driver levels in which you gain points for almost everything you do within a race.

Overtake or dirty overtake an opponent and you receive points, perfect a corner or slide around it and you get points. It’s a nice feature to have as it rewards the gamer depending on what their driving style is and never discourages you to have to race a certain way.

If dirty is your driving style- then so be it.

What also surprises me in Shift is how the AI has been re-vamped and now actually fights for the win as well as you. They’ll bump you off the track, try to spin you out on a corner and dirty/clean over take you when possible.

A good job has been done to ensure that the AI is always up there with the gamer to ensure that every race is always different and always challenging, so there is never a really dull moment within the game.

What’s even better is how amazing the cockpit view for the game is. Whilst other races feature this view, Shift has to be the one game that executes it perfectly.

Why you ask?

Well on every corner you take the driver’s head will sway corresponding to the force in the corner.  If you crash your vision goes blurry and the driver starts to heavily breathe; drive 200+km/h and your vision of everything in car goes blurry.

The list goes on and on and it is all good.

This adds another whole dimension to the level of immersion within a video game in ensuring the gamer gets the best experience possible and Need For Speed: Shift does it beautifully. With it being Slightly Mad Studios 1st real venture in to making a game specifically for consoles/PC, they have done a wonderful job.

Graphics, online play, immersion, AI- everything runs as it should. Sure some time the loading screen can take a while and the grid girls may occasionally glitch within your car at the start but there is nothing that really holds this game back.

Maybe if career mode was a little more fleshed out, there were a few more cars to choose from, money wasn’t so easily attainable it might be better, but these all these are niggly things I have wrong with the game and they don’t detract from the overall experience too much which is good.

It’s a solid re-entry into establishing the Need For Speed name in the racing genre of gaming and proves a point that whilst it may have been down on its luck as of late it’s back to show everyone it’s the king of the racers!

Here’s a bike of a different color (so to speak). It’s a CB550 that’s been chopped into… something different. It’s not a cafe racer, but it is an interesting build that is actually pretty well done. The lettering on the side panels reads “Pro Street”, and this is a pretty cool drag-style bike. There was some online chatter dumping all over this bike, but if you are not planning on hauling ass through the twisties, I don’t see a problem with the bike. Yes, it has no front brake. But neither do most purpose-built drag bikes, which this is imitating. Really, who needs a front brake at the end of the 1/4 mile?

Since this is the last Free Wallpaper Friday before Monday’s release of “Class of 2008,”, I’m leaving you this week with another sample of what you’ll find in the site’s first book.  This photograph is an ‘86 GMC Wrangler half-ton pickup, turned pro-street racer.  Even though it looks like it belongs on the drag strip, this extra short truck is fully street legal.

Azi sunt ofticat. Motivul? EA a lansat luni cea mai nouă versiune a celui mai cunoscut joc din categoria Racing, şi anume Need For Speed Undercover. Şi cum eu am un PC cam vechi, era de aşteptat să nu îmi meargă… Şi de ofticat ce sunt, am descarcat penultima varianta a jocului, Pro Street, şi acum îl joc pana la epuizare (sau poate până îmi iau alt PC nou).

LE: Se oferă careva să îmi doneze şi mie un PC nou? Aş fi recunoscător.

Anyway, I took some cash down to my local gamestop and bought THREE copies of Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood and ONE copy of Need for Speed: Prostreet just for Child’s Play.

I know this is a crappy update but I’ll have a bigger and better one up tomorrow.

Go go go ! Dia 18 ta chegando! 1 MÊS CONOMETRADO!!!

Welcome to Race Car Enterprises. This is exciting to me to be able to share the things that I enjoy with others and hopefully find others that like what I do. For years I watched and listened to recordings of national events and dreamed of the day when I would get me chance to race. Once I had a license like a lot of my peers we tested the roads with our hot rods and our ability to out run the police. But time passes and we mature and get away from those things and settle down.

Our desire to race is still there but we funnel it into legal ways to do it rather than visit the police station every weekend. For some of you this may bring back memories. In this blog I will show some of my rides and some future rides that I am looking to get. Please share with me your race car experiences and photos of your ride.

My very first ride was a 1956 Chevy 2 door coupe Bellaire. It was British racing Green with black interior. The coupe if you remember was a real sweet ride because it was not like the 210 models that had the post between the front and rear windows on each side. With the coupe it was wide open like a convertible without the retractable top.

I had a 265 v8 motor in it with a two barrel carb and a three speed manual transmission. I changed the carburetor out for a small four barrel carb. It had hedman headers and some higher priced tires on the car. I did not get the chance to really work with the car because of an accident that happened while taking my brother around the block.

I came around this one curve like always did, the car handled real well, but this time there was some sand on the road and the car slide out of control. I slammed into the concrete guard posts on the side of the road and broke one of them. The front end of the car was damaged on the passenger side. I wanted to keep it but my father didn’t want me fooling around with the car anymore. He was mad at me because he had to pay for the concrete post I broke.

Since then I have had several cars mostly pro street type cars that would get up and move.

There was the car I had for a while in the Navy while stationed in San Diego, California.

This was a 1957 convertible; once again it was British racing green, with white interior, four speed manual transmissions, and a 327 bored .030 over bore with high compression pistons, flat tappet cam, and dual quads with a fuel cell totally streetable. But it would move well over one hundred miles an hour with ease. Raced it upon occasion, but never for titles or money. Just for fun. The car was great. Searched high and low for a picture of the 1957 Convertible but have not found one, because I wanted to find one with the same color.

Once I came out of the Navy I purchased a Plymouth Road Runner 1968. It was that light sky blue color which was popular in those days. I had Mickey Thompson Tires on the rear with cragar brushed aluminum five spokes. The motor was a 383 with a four barrel carb and a four speed transmission. It had the Dana rear end I believe the gear ratio was about 353. The interior was blue vinyl with black carpets. The transmission and shifter were a Hurst four speed shifter with the white knob and the shift pattern on the top stuck out when you first looked in the car.

Then there was the 1967 Camaro Convertible was maroon with white leather interior. This was a street car which I in turn modified and made a little more street lethal. I had big tires, but no fancy wheels. It was a sleeper.

Then there was the 1968 Camaro Hardtop. This was a powerful car. It had a 431 cubic inch, motor in it with 750 double pumper Holley carb, Muncie high performance 4 speed transmissions with 11″ hays clutch, nine inch ford rear end with 410 gears. It screamed and beat 428 cobras, corvettes and even some Mopars. It beat my brothers 427 1967 Chevelle which put out 450 hp.

Then there was my favorite of all.

The 1970 Chevelle Super Sport 454. This car was a sleeper. It was grey exterior with black interior a Hurst shifter four speed manual transmission on the floor, big tires on the back and smaller tires on the front. They were street racing tires, had hooker headers, 800 cfm Holley carb double pumper and it ran super fast and quiet on the inside. Good stereo and seats.

Then there was the Corvair. This was my detour for a season.

I have some things in mind now. I desire to run a professional class drag racing car in a national event. I did that many years ago with a 1967 Chevy Nova II Super Sport Modified Production Car NHRA class C/SM. Every part of this car was cherry. There was not an after market part in the whole body. All stock steel. The front fenders were replacement though because they were lighter than the factory stock ones. This was my favorite on the track. There was not another car that could beat it in its class in New Jersey. I ran in the Summer Nationals an NHRA event which was in July back then. There was another car which I heard was the sister car of the one I had but I never had the chance of racing him. Just could not connect.

But now I am looking at the Pro Stock Class car. I like the idea of getting in and out of a door. It’s what is more commonly called “door slammers.” Here is a glimpse at what I am seeing.

Se fuderam! (eterna dúvida: escrevo foderam, pra ficar certo, ou fuderam, pra ficar legal?)

Voltei. Passei o último mês jogando, vendo Arquivo X e… é isso. Preciso ver só a nona e última temporada de Arquivo X, depois estarei (infelizmente) “livre” da série.

Sobre os jogos:

1- Need For Speed Pro Street é chatinho. Não consegui zerar, sempre fico enjoado do jogo quando chega mais ou menos na metade. Tentaram fazer a jogabilidade mais real, ficou algo estranho, complicadinho de dirigir, mas não ficou real. Não sei se foi isso que me fez desgostar do barato, ou se foi o tédio. Ou talvez tenha sido o fato de o RX7 ser fraquinho no jogo.

2- Colin McRae: DiRT é foda. Bom mesmo. O primeiro jogo de rally que eu zerei. Boa diversidade, gráficos sensacionais, ritmo legal. Não é curto demais, nem longo o suficiente pra enjoar.

3- GTA San Andreas ainda é demais, mesmo quando você o joga pela terceira vez. Quando joguei GTASA pela segunda vez, encontrei lugares que eu não tinha visto, músicas da rádio que eu não tinha ouvido, piadas que eu tinha perdido. Estou no meio da terceira “zerada”, e novamente há lugares divertidos que eu não conhecia ainda, há muitos comerciais nas rádios que eu tinha perdido, e por aí vai. Esse lance das rádios do GTA é interessante: não ponha MP3 na pasta do jogo para ouvi-las quando entra num veículo! As rádios do jogo são muito legais. A melhor é a Radio X, claro.

Agora, seção (ou sessão?) fofoca-pirata: O Google queria dar uma de espertão no lançamento do Chrome. Botaram no contrato de licença que absolutamente tudo que for submetido por meio do navegador é de direito deles. Mas alguém leu o barato, e o grande G voltou atrás, claro. Fonte.

Muito bem, a franquia de velozes e furiosos, não podemos negar que é um sucesso, seja por ser um filme de ação, mulheres bonitas e carros potentes, mas está dando certo. Apesar do leve fracasso do segundo filme, o terceiro filme conseguiu restaurar a fama da franquia renovando e adaptando os famosos drifts. Com um leve “spoiler” no terceiro filme, Vin diesel aparece anunciando que estaria no quarto filme da série. Desta vez além de Vin Diesel, ele traz junto a maioria dos personagens principais do primeiro filme, Paul Walker e Michelle Rodriguez. Pelo visto no trailer, resolveram voltar para carros sem frescuras como no segundo filme, já que eu vejo um paralelo de velozes e furiosos com a série de games da EA, Need For Speed. Na época do primeiro filme, surgiu o NFS Underground (que por sinal renovou a série que andava fraquinha), visto o sucesso, lançaram o Underground 2, além de ter sido uma tendencia mundial com carros mais do que afrescalhados. Neste caso do Underground 2, o paralelo é com o +Velozes +Furiosos. Depois foi lançado o Most Wanted, ainda um pouco afrescalhado, Carbon que também é um pouco afrescalhado porém muito menos que os anteriores. Com o lançamento do Need For Speed Pro Street no ano passado, com gráficos excelentes, apesar de ser um jogo de corrida arcade, é muito bom e sem qualquer frescura alheia. Depois deste vieram outros jogos que seguiram essa linha Pro Street porém com graficos ainda melhores e jogabilidade mais realista, como GRID, sem contar com a série de jogos do Gran Turismo, que é espetacular e é o simulador de corrida definitivo até então. Mas chega de papo, vocês querem ver o trailer.

Need for Speed: ProStreet is the 11th installment of Electronic Arts’ popular racing game series Need for Speed. On May 21, 2007, Electronic Arts published a teaser trailer of ProStreet, and officially announced it ten days later. It was released worldwide in November 2007.

The demo, featuring two races, one speed challenge and one grip race, appeared on Xbox Live on October 26, 2007, on PlayStation Store on November 1, 2007, and on PC on November 2, 2007.

Does waiting in the drive-through annoy you, too?  Head on down to the following A&W locations on for car-hop service, in conjunction with Cruisin’ the Dub.  It’s just like the old days, but without all the icky trans fats!

Tuesdays:  1875 Pembina Highway, 1520 Portage Avenue (across from Polo Park), 1078 St. Mary’s Road, and all Portage La Prairie locations.  Thursday:  1520 Portage Avenue, and Sundays:  3095 Portage Avenue.  Rumor has it that Saturday nights at 1520 Portage are the cruise to cruise to!

Tonight (Wednesday, June 25th) is as busy as ever with regular events in two of Manitoba’s three major cities.  In Brandon, the Co-op Cruise Night is rolling into the Heritage Co-op Parking Lot at 1035 Richmond Avenue.  For more info, call Grant Gillis at (204) 726-4382.  In Winnipeg, head downtown for the “City Lights Cruise Night” at the downtown Pony Corral, 400 St. Mary Avenue.  No matter where you are, both shows are guaranteed to please!

Want more racing action?  Gimli Dragways is open for bracket racing on Canada Day Weekend.  Test & Tune is on Saturday, June 28th, followed by bracket racing and junior dragsters starts at 10 am on Sunday, June 29th.  As an added bonus, the Canadian Chaos Freestyle Motorcycle Stunt team will be performing.  To find out more, head on over to their website.

If drag racing at Gimli is too loud, it’s not because you’re too old; it’s just because you’d rather be in Lac du Bonnet for the Winnipeg River Car Club’s 3rd Annual Show & Shine on Sunday, June 28th.  The show is taking over an entire street in the small town between 1 and 4 pm.  Everyone is welcome, so long as you’ve got $5 for admission.  For more info, call Craig at (204) 345-6237 or Allan at (204) 345-2377.

And when that’s all done, hurry back to the city for Cruise Night at the Pony Corral (corner of Grant & Wilton) from 6 to 10.  Paul Williamson of Willy’s Garage will be handing out prizes all night, along with great draws, great people, and great food.  If you don’t believe me, try the Hawaiian Chicken Sandwich.

If you’re on the other side of town, stop by Tavern United at 826 Regent Avenue for Cruisin’ the Peg.  The parking lot will be filled with awesome cars, and the owners are more than willing to talk your ear off about their ride.

Finally, celebrate our country’s 141st birthday in style at the Canada Day Show & Shine.  the Manitoba Mopar Club is hosting the show at Kildonan Park, in the Rainbow Stage parking lot (2015 Main St.).  Registration starts at 10:30, for $10 per car.  If you’re just there to look, the show runs from noon to 4 pm.  For more info, call the Mopar Hotline at (204) 667-2799, or head over to their website.

Just south of Winnipeg, Red River Co-op Speedway is hosting 4-cylinder stock cars on Thursday, July 3rd.  The green flag drops at 7:30, with the rain date set for Friday, July 4th.

Winnipeg Sports Car Club is hosting Race Weekend #3 at Gimli Motorsports Park, this July 5th and 6th.  Registration and breakfast goes from 8:30 to 10 on Saturday and Sunday, with events going all day.  For more info, check out their website.

All Roads Lead To Falcon Show & Shine, or so say the organizers of the show & shine at Falcon Lake, MB, on Sunday, July 6th.  Registration is from 10 am to noon, at only $10 per car.  There’s not only a great car show, there’s a great beach, Wonder Shows Midway, golf, and tennis.  All proceeds go to the Canadian Cancer Society.

The owners of this trophy came to last week’s Manitoba Camaro Club Show & Shine with this huge trophy.  They also went to the trouble of bringing a matching ‘69 Camaro RS Z/28 tribute to accent the huge statue.
