This is part 7, an interlude in the short story of personal exploration and development by one new to the daily employment of Gmail, long resisted, long desired, and eventually brought to conversion by an Android.

For before I lay out my thoughts on what Google should consider putting on their ‘Should Do’ list, I thought I would share some of the great off-blog thoughts and advice from others who have been or may some day be converted to Gmail — more than a few with whom I agree.

What Other’s See

Posted by Antoine Bonnin

There is so much to do, I’m not sure where to start .

Easy ones could be to allow folder creation (instead of labels) and an option to sort emails in your inbox (by dates, name, etc).

It would also be great to use Ajax instead of refreshing the page when opening an email, the email content would appear as others slide down (tough one to explain without an image).

Posted by Ilana Schwartz

Top 3 wish list for gmail:
1. Preview pane
2. Tabs for inbox, email in progress, other folders.
3. Sort by (as mentioned)

Posted by Ilana Schwartz

Some are required, by law, to save information and folders seems to be easier conceptually. It does mirror how info is saved to an os.

I could do without folders, but I think that Gmail lacks convenience without preview pane and a variety of sorting methods.

But maybe I’m taking too small a view – I’m quite interested in these fundamental changes you would make…?

Posted by Eric Sunderhaus

Further mirror functionality in Outlook that users have come to rely on.

Such as..
1. Allow screen capture function similar to Outlook.

"Window Key" + "Print Screen"
"Control + V"

2. Allow users to easily change default email in operating system from Outlook to Gmail so that when applications trigger an email message they don’t immediately open Outlook; but rather Gmail.

I agree with llana, preview pane would be a nice feature, so you can easily go through each emails without getting lost in the confusing "email UI".

The "search" is so not user-friendly, you can tell Gmail was created by engineers for engineers

Posted by Luca Candela

I think Gmail is ripe for a serious overhaul… most of the features and settings aren’t easily findable, the legibility of pretty much all text is poor, the interface doesn’t make very good use of big screens…

In general I see a lot of space for improvement, although I’m a fanatic of the service.

Posted by Roberto Champney

Luca, has a point. Gmail’s has some serious usability problems. I can’t ever remember where things are and even to create a new message it is hard to find the function (even though it is right there in front of you; but some genius managed to make it almost invisible). I use it as backup and for its calendar sharing feature, that’s about it.

I like the thread approach, but things can get scary after a few threads are going on. Also the lack of a "drag ‘n drop" capability makes it more a hassle than good all outlook (try attaching 5 files and you get my point)…

good luck…

Posted by David Garrett

I think step 1 should be more from a business requirements standpoint than a user experience solution. In other words, they need to accommodate all the services that Hotmail and others provide, such as calendar tools but, at the same time, include some of their own unique tools and link tightly with Maps, YouTube, etc. and seriously consider how those services can play into the evolution of gmail.

Matt, I STRONGLY disagree with you. Gmail doesn’t need to be beautiful but needs to get better at being usable. Right now it’s downright distracting. Live mail is way better at letting you know instantly what is what and what’s the purpose of everything.

"If they do it that way there’s a good reason for it" it’s the kind of mentality that keeps progress from doing its job. I grew up in a small town surrounded by farmland, and it’s the kind of rationale old farmers would come up with when they had no better way of arguing against some improvement or change in old ways of doing something.

Gmail is an awesome product that was put together by people worried about a few things but definitely not about making it easy to use. It would take very little to make it a better product and I for one wouldn’t miss the old interface AT ALL.

In fact, you can check some interesting experiments in skinning with the style plugin for firefox, if you can’t find it just let me know and I’ll give you the links.

Posted by Vera Lugovskaya

SORTING
The absence of sorting was a big issue for me. I needed to be able to sort by Sender. After a while I found "Filter". It kinda solved my problem but column sorting would improve usability a lot.

PRINT
Another detail which was bothering me was "Print All" when I needed to print one message from a thread. It seems recently they added "Print" to message features which prints one message though I still feel that "Print All" should be a second choice in the Message window.

LABELS VS. FOLDERS
I agree that labels are limited. Besides they have "Tree" widget in their GWT library. I wonder I they don’t use it in GMail.

Posted by Matt Gist

Gmail should keep pegging away as is. People should get used to the fact that something like a web-based email client should be highly-customizable and ever changing.

Gmail might not be beautiful, but it wouldn’t be designed the way it is without exhausted research and data to support why it is design the way it is.

If people need acclimating, then the best thing would be tutorials and such.

Posted by Bob Stoneburner

Actually what Google is doing is probally the best strategy. Provide Android as an open source platform with multiple communication options in a single client, (email, online presence, schedualing, video conferencing, SMS, ect). Get traditional Microsoft OEMS to build smart phones on your mobile platform. Ultimately cost and level of integration in the cloud (with mobile being a primary access point) will drive adoption of which email system users select.

The Next

First converted to a fan of Android, the platform, then converted to a fan of Gmail, too. I resisted the Android, and succumbed. I, for much longer, both longed for and resisted the conversion to Gmail. Through all of this, despite the long path already journeyed, there remain many more steps to walk, specific steps that those overseers of Gmail can take to further enlighten the experience of ones as of now converted as well as those yet to be. But, that, my friends, that part of this short story, I will save for next week.

Subscribe now (click here) to make sure you don’t miss any part of this series exploring the eventual adoption of Gmail in one’s daily life, by one once thoroughly addicted to, dependent on, the primarily client-based solution of Microsoft’s Outlook,

I just started to notice today that luck may have not be on my side since the beginning. Karma I guess. Been having this awful stomach ache whole day. Now my stomach is still doing somersault. Not the nervous-good kind. Wonder what have I eaten to deserve this. *sigh*

Worrying about money lately. It seems that no matter what I do, I can’t seems to have enough. Studies, gadget, clothes etc.etc.. I wish someday that money could just drop from the sky onto my lap. hahaha..>.<

********

I began to wonder lately, does quitting means giving up or its for the best? Hmm..how do I explain this? I began to wonder that if quitting means giving up then I really don’t want to give up but in the same time I really want to stop feeling this insecure. Worrying about this, worrying about that. Totally suck the life-juice out of me.

*********

22 more days to go. I wish I can be patient until then. I guess this is my longest job I’ve ever done. Calculating until the day I stop, it will be almost 4 months I work there. 10 hours per day. 6 days per week. Gosh, sometimes I’m just proud of myself to have the patient to work like this. Committment is definitely not my forte. hahah..>.<

Drawing a turkey in a grid as small as 10 by 18 is pretty tough. Oh well. I’m here to post puzzles, not art.

This is also the first appearance of black cells, which are excluded from the loop. They’ve been sitting unused in the description page for months now.

Anyways, the main point was to make an easy Double Back puzzle, since the blog probably didn’t have any before this post.

Rename the ~/.asoundrc and/or /etc/asound.conf files to something else.

There you go Simple isn’t? To think I uninstalled the WHOLE PulseAudio suite so many times just to make pSX work… tsk… :/

My computer recently had the following error that popped up every time I turned on my computer:

My computer recently had the following error that popped up every time I turned on my computer:
‘C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe’
terminated unexpectedly with status code
-1073741482. The system will now shut
down and restart.
This started around 5 pm. Then I would have 60 seconds until it restarts. When I let it restart, it turned to a black screen and I would have to manually shut down my computer. I tried to go to safe mode and it still left a blank screen. Then I tried to log in and it would take a shitty long time but I got in ok. The shutdown didn’t even begin. The only problem was that there was only a background. Nothing else. So I decided to open the task manager. I clicked on File, and Run new task. Then I got on my internet browser and searched up this and that about services.exe errors. One website told me that I should use RegCure to find and fix errors. After I fully registered and scanned my computer, I found out there were 2713 problems found! RegCure fixed it in a few minutes. But my desktop still wasn’t up. I suspected explorer.exe wasn’t running so I checked that in the Processes tab of Task Manager. It wasn’t on there. I had to run a new task. ‘C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe’ or ‘C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache\explorer.exe’ After it started running everything was back to normal. My desktop and taskbar popped back up and running. But then it failed and stopped loading. I then had to go to a different computer, copy ‘explorer.exe’ onto a USB Flash Drive and Run a new task. ‘flashdrive\explorer.exe’ Everything was back to normal. This ended at 3 a.m. But I’m still not finished. After I am done with my computer, I will have to restart it, go to safe mode, and load on the explorer.exe to my computer.
This was my shitty Saturday — How was yours?

A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost. She lowered her altitude and spotted a man in a boat below. She shouted to him,

“Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don’t know where I am.”

The man consulted his portable GPS and replied, “You’re in a hot air balloon, approximately 30 feet above ground elevation of 2,346 feet above sea level. You are at 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes north latitude and 100 degrees, 49.09 minutes west longitude.

“She rolled her eyes and said, “You must be an Obama Democrat.”

“I am,”replied the man. “How did you know?”

“Well,” answered the balloonist, “everything you told me is technically correct. But I have no idea what to do with your information, and I’m still lost. Frankly, you’ve not been much help to me.”

The man smiled and responded, “You must be a Republican.”

“I am,” replied the balloonist. “How did you know?”

“Well,” said the man, “you don’t know where you are or where you are going. You’ve risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to solve your problem. You’re in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but somehow, now it’s my fault.”

Carpal tunnel syndrome is the occupational disease of the 21st century. It involves numbness, weakness or pain in the wrist and hand and is caused by pressure on the nerve entering the wrist.

Traditionally it has been treated by wearing a splint, taking anti inflammatory drugs or with surgery, all having limited success.

Spinal misalignments are often found in the lower necks of patients suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome. Nerve compression in the neck can block the flow of nutrients to nerves in the arm, shoulder and hand, making them susceptible to injury. Chiropractic gently restores proper nerve flow from the neck to the hand correcting the cause of the problem.

To learn more about how a safe, gentle and scientific, Chiropractic adjustment could TRANSFORM your health contact your chiropractor. If you are interested in a complimentary consultation, CALL me at The Family Chiropractic Centre, 519-837-1234.

“I’m a woman, I can do everything I want!” Women can get everything they wish for.

“I’m a woman, I can do everything I want!”

Women can get everything they wish for. Women have everything a guy can ever dream of, it’s just up to the guys to discover the way we want to be treated for giving something. Therefore, if they don’t have what they want from us, it’s their fault! They did not discover the magical way!

You, guys, should only follow the basic steps you were educated with: be respectful, some jokes are just inappropriate when being with a woman you are interested in; feel the passion of every single move, word, look, don’t repress it; offer her attention, it’s probably the most important thing a woman desires – women can interpret that attention in thousands of ways and it’s sure they will find the best way that fits to your feelings. You are evil with yourselves. You don’t actually want to do the mistakes you do, you want to be just as pure as women are, in all sorts of fields, but you are trying to seem as superficial as you can, being afraid of what you really are, because you have never been like you desire to be!! You, guys, don’t really know what that feels like and you are used to being like you are, you indulge in this situation, without analyzing it deeply. This is the real problem, I must say!

Women like crazily in love guys. They are so childish, they cannot hide that inside them anymore because it’s a feeling that beats them and makes them weak. Don’t get me wrong, women don’t like weak men! They don’t really like plasticine men, to do whatever they want with them. No! Women like men to seem weak because this weakness brings up the sincerity!

You, guys, have born perfect, but you have destroyed this feature by the wrong interpretation of women and you have changed, considering them something they are not! This is the problem that lead to this war between men and women! Trying to understand other people around you is a very good thing, but not considering some aspects and the wrong interpretation because you don’t want to give a go to something that might be true, this is bad!

“The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because o

“The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don’t do anything about it. “

This quote by Albert Einstein holds true for a place like Gaya/Bodh Gaya (from now I will denote the word Gaya as a representative of both the places Gaya and Bodh Gaya).
So, “Gaya: on the minus” is all about being one of the the filthiest city in the world. I do wonder, if there wouldn’t have been the temples and statues would anyone even think of going there?
Definitely not!
Thinking again, would there be so much filth if the temples and statues wern’t there?
Why think of something which if changed would change about 3000 years of history!?

Hence, Gaya is filthy, as all holy places in India are filthy. Go to any of them and the sites you see are the same. Dirt, filth, garbage, urine and faecal stench everywhere. Wonder how tourists still visit these places! (I would really like an answer)

The next “minus” in Gaya are the potholes. These potholes might just make those huge ones in Mumbai look like smooth ones. In Gaya, if you are traveling in a vehicle, don’t expect to be sitting normally. You will be jumping on your seat, sliding down the seat, pushing back and forward on the seat; everything, but sitting on the seat. My Mom swears that all the extra food she had during breakfast was all digested in a mere 15 mins ride in a Gaya auto (for the record these autos have the word “Piaggio” written on the back).
When asked when would the problem of road “blocks” be solved? The only answer I get is – “It is much better than it used to be!”

What answer is that?!!!

Anyways, hoping Gaya becomes a beautiful city because if Lord Buddha would have lived to this day he would definitely have killed himself by now!

Next on the list are certain people, namely – beggars (in both Vishnupad and Bodh Gaya) and pandits (in Vishnupad). I experienced this sad site of a foreigner being pestered for money, ice cream or whatever they desire. Being somebody who just hates the idea of begging, I was outraged seeing the sight. Every morsel of energy at those times were spent in keeping myself from doing something bad to those 15 month old to 70 year old ages whose primary bread earning is from these tourists who innocently give hard earned money to these nincompoops who hate doing some worthwhile work.
The pandits are beggars, but of a different, ‘higher’, form. They will demand money because doing that, as they say, will make God happy and He will “bless” you with more money. Don’t get me wrong, I am religious (in my own way) and have a lot of faith in the Supreme Being. But I do not like the idea of “warming” the hands of these men of the highest order of society (Brahmins). Brahmins were supposed to be the most learned men in ancient times. Does learning mean asking for money in the name of God? What kind of learning do they do nowadays?
Giving money as per our wish is called donation or offering. But giving money when somebody asks you to give in their hand, is called begging in my dictionary.

I dreamed about Sean Penn last night. I stood at the doors to a huge auditorium or theater and someone tapped me on the shoulder. When I turned around, he was standing behind me. He said, “Thank you.” Then he walked in the theater with his entourage. After I recovered from surprise, I realized I had no idea what he was thanking me for and called after him. He had moved too far away to hear, so I stepped through the doors, fully expecting the security guards to stop me. Lo and behold, they let me go.

Why so troubled?

I caught up with Mr. Penn and asked him why he had thanked me. Because this was a dream, he walked back up the aisle with me and out the doors. He talked the whole time, but so quietly, I couldn’t make out what he said. At one point, I realized that he was only a head … on the floor … and I figured that was why I couldn’t hear him. I got down on my knees, but still couldn’t make out what he said.

This was not the Jeff Spicoli Penn, nor the Willie Stark Penn. This was the I’ll-settle-it-with-my-fists Penn—smart, but troubled. I felt desperate to hear what he said because I knew I had helped him before and needed to help him again.

Suddenly, his head was back on his body, and as we walked, I glanced over and realized his scalp had a large gash. Blood ran down his face and neck, and I convinced him to let me take him to the hospital for stitches. From the hospital, I took him to my home (not any place I’ve ever actually lived) still feeling the anxiety that it was imperative I keep him with me and talking.

Inexplicably, I was searching for a needle with the right-sized eye for the piece of black thread in my hand … when the alarm sounded!

Despite the abrupt ending, I think there is plenty here to interpret. I’m sure this pertains to my writing. I rarely think of Sean Penn and haven’t heard him mentioned recently, so I think Penn showing up in my dream is meant as a pun. Now, what I have to decide is whether pen represents me as the writer … or my writing in general … or some part of the novel I just finished writing (or didn’t.)

I wish he’d spoken louder. Any lip readers out there?

Today I think I want to talk about intimacy and what it means to get intimate. Especially after an important relationship or after an important break-up or, let’s just say it, after being married for several years and then getting divorced!

Everyone says you’re “back in the game” (like if that was any good!) and you’ve been so far away that just the thought of dating again makes it not attractive at all.

Maybe it´s just me, maybe it is that easy. Is it just, OK, let’s do this!, and that’s it? And, I guess here’s where my second problem comes in, which is, what is it you’re really looking for? Do you just want to get intimate and does getting intimate mean just doing it or does it mean a lot more. What is it you really want? What are you really looking for?

I know what I want and what I’m looking for, I know I want more! Just doing it feels meaningless at this point. And I don’t mean that by casual encounters you can’t start a long-term and lasting relationship but, then again I think that’s when we go back to problem number one, getting intimate, what it means to get intimate again…

Am I the only one who’s actually worried about that?

So here we are, that’s where I find myself today, scared to get intimate? scared of doing it, maybe? Or scared that it will just be that and nothing more? Scared that I won’t find the girl or woman I’m looking for because I don’t know how, and worried that either I do something or I won’t be able to move on with my life… (I’m over my past but can’t find a future to move on to).

Am I the only one who thinks that I’ve got so used to being and knowing one person so well for so long that next time I’m intimate with someone I won’t really know what to do? Am I gonna make a fool out of myself? Is it going to be awful? Embarrassing? Will it last more than 20 seconds (I haven’t done it for a long time!)? And I guess if she is HER and intimacy is not just doing it then it will be right… but then we go to problem 1, or was it 2?

So, those are my thoughts and questions today, and I guess the big question is, is there anybody else out there who thinks or feels or at least understands what I’m saying? If there is, I don’t know what you’ve done, I don’t know if you’ve had similar experiences, I don’t know if you’ve found yourself in these situations and in any case, if you have, have you ever gotten anywhere close to what my weird personal dumb thoughts and worries are?

Uff… I can’t believe I wrote this but… I guess I said I was gonna get personal, right?

I was raised in an environment where we did not have much of a choice. The major decisions are made easy because in reality you are not taking them. Its governed by the norms and expectations of the parents, society, relatives and even teachers.

You study hard because the neighbor’s kids have higher grades. You speak English and not your mother tongue because that is a sign of being educated. After schooling you have no choice but to pursue engineering or medicine because it is hard to support oneself on art or sports. After the bachelors one has to pursue MBA. Not because they want to but because that is expected of them by others. Jobs, marriage, kids, house, cars everything is governed by one big question “What is expected out of me?”

Indians have a greater external locus of control than most people from other countries, however things are changing. It is easier when we are told by our family, spouse, boss or society what to do and what not to do rather than take a plunge ourselves. We judge our success not by how much happiness it brings us, but by the eyes of the others. Surprisingly the system works and the country is growing by leaps and bounds. However the question is when we are going to rise above the Maslov’s basic needs of materialistic success and security to pursue our passions. When are we going to take a time out to fully understand ourselves and take time to develop our hobbies and interests? The goal of life is not material success.

Wiele osób ma ostatnio problem z dziwnym zachowaniem CRM’a, mianowicie próbą “zachowania

Wiele osób ma ostatnio problem z dziwnym zachowaniem CRM’a, mianowicie próbą “zachowania” pliku Blank.aspx. Gdzieś na blogach ignoranci zaczęli nawet szerzyć bzdurę, że to błąd Dynamics CRM 4.0 powoduje takie zachowanie. Wszystko wygląda tak:

PRZYCZYNA PROBLEMU:
Takie zachowanie spowodowane jest faktem, że Internet Explorer utracił znaczenie powiązania z plikami typu aspx lub inaczej – Internet Explorer nie wie, co zrobić z plikiem takiego typu. Dlaczego?
