If your iPhone or iPod touch is getting a little grumpy, crashing and freezing there are things you can do solve the problem and help ensure it doesn’t happen again.

Reboot
Your iPhone/Touch is really just a pocket computer and like all computers if left running for days or weeks on end it can start to develop a few issues that cause it to occasionally crash. When your devices screen turns off or when you press its power button at the top’ it is not actually completely powering down but rather going into a sleep mode in a similar way to your desktop computer. Like a computer it will occasionally need a complete restart. To do this hold down the power button at the top until a red slider appears and drag the slider to completely turn off your device. Don’t worry all of your data will be retained. Turn it back on by holding the power button again for a second or two. Be aware that its quite normal for your device to take a minute or so to start up from cold.

Force Quit
So what do you do if you’re in the middle of using your favorite app and suddenly it just stops responding? It wont scroll, the buttons wont work and even the, “iPod touch“, main home button of your device wont take you back to the home screen. Its not like a computer where you can just switch to the desktop and force it to quit! Well actually it is in a way. If an app just stops responding hold down the home button for six or seven seconds. This is the iphone equivalent of the Force Quit on a mac or End Task on Windows.

Forced Restart
If your entire device has completely locked up and you can’t even shut it down using the above method there is a way of forcing it to restart. Hold down the power button as above but this time hold the home button at the same time until you see an Apple logo appear. This will actually force the machine to completely restart which will again take a minute or so.

Replace a troublesome application
If you have completely restarted your device but there is still one particular application that insists on crashing, you could try replacing it with a fresh copy. First of all delete the troublesome app by holding your finger down on it until it starts to jiggle. Tap the x that appears in the top left corner of the icon. It should be noted that if you delete an app which was purchased on your device (rather than on your computer) before ever syncing, the app will be lost for good and you will need to download a new version from the app store. The app has now been deleted and can be replaced with the copy in iTunes on your computer. Plug your device into your computer and wait for iTunes to open. In iTunes click your device icon in the column on the left and then click the Applications tab in the main window. Make sure the app you deleted from your device is selected to sync then hit the Sync button in the bottom right. A new copy of the app will be loaded onto your device.

Replacing your settings
No amount of restarting will help if it’s the actual data on your device that is corrupt. Luckily Apple has provided a way to replace key data. Open the settings application and select General.Scroll down to the bottom and select Reset. The first two items in the resulting list are Reset All Settings and Erase All Content and Settings. Ignore the following four items. Settings are all the ways in which you have customized the device for your own use and content is the media and data you have loaded on to it. Resetting settings will restore your device to its initial condition but keep all of the media you have added to it. Erase all content and Settings will completely restore your device to its original condition when, “iPod touch“, first purchased. If you now re sync your device with your computer it will be populated with a nice fresh copy of your content.

I do hope this information has helped you restore your iPhone/Touch back to the smooth running device it was when you first starting using it and prevents further frustrations in the future.

Web44 is currently experiencing very high load as we are restoring one final very large database to that machine. The high load is causing slow performance and intermittent problems with SSH logins. We expect the restore to be complete between 5PM and 6PM US Central time, at which point normal service should be restored.

We’re aware that there are some missing Python modules on Web44. Once the DB restore is complete, we’ll look into that issue.

Update 1: Web44 is back online and is functioning normally.

It seems that Sony Ericsson might be going into a rather stressful holiday season. Why do we say that? Well, aside from the existing issues with the Saito that they’re trying to tackle, it seems that its other flagship phone, the Aino, might have some issues with the phones’ touchscreen capabilities. A spokesperson for Sony Ericsson has said that only a small number of Aino units have issues, and they’re working as quickly as possible to sort things out.

Nothing good out there!

From the begining days of 2004 up until now, we are totally addicted and sometimes obssesed with what is so called “social media”. The craving need to connect ourselves to other people and of course expressing our emotions to the world has made it dramatically popular.

But can you feel something is really going wrong with social media nowadays?

Well i do.

Let me give you some points about the problems we will be facing:

1) Social media is overloading?: Yes, the bird had become a big fat potato with millions of tweets per day. Think about facebook, twitter, linkedin and other online social media tools, Which one will you follow? Which one will you answer?What topics are being discussed? The answers to these profound questions are not as easy as it is two years ago.

2) Social media is threatening private life?: Believe me, a lot of law suits will run up over the coming 3-5 years. Social media is so engaged in our private life that even one is tweeting about his driving on the road!. (Don’t tweet and drive). Soon there will be regulations applying for all who is using social media. Think of it as real life, you don’t want somebody to fetch an information about you that will be used against you. But social media simplifies these kind of cases already.  

3) Social media is alieniating people from society?: Despite we use social media to connect to people we want to talk and share information with, it turns out to be that a person with average 250 friends is only connecting with 3(three!!) people (that makes app. %2) in his list on a daily basis. So the question is :

Why the remaining %98 still remains?

To show of that you have a lot of GOOD friends? To keep them all in case we need them?

Hi, it’s me – but just who is me? Don’t worry I ask myself the same question sometimes…you see the true answer is I really don’t know. I don’t know who I am anymore, not at all. But hey, maybe that implies I once knew…which wouldn’t exactly be correct.

I used to be a strong, healthy and rather independent teenager, your normal kind of guy , not the attention seeking mother fucker I am going to look like by posting this. But trust me – I don’t want attention, what I do want is to explain some stuff and get a lot of things off my chest, so if anyone at all ever stumbles upon this blog, you will know at least a little bit about what has brought me to this point. In return for reading this blog I promise to be completely honest with you about my life and thoughts, you have my word.

I was a pretty fucked up kid ^^, after all – wouldn’t you be if you had been abused by your own father? Yeah you heard it, fuck it, I don’t care anymore what people think of me. Sometimes I feel like it was my fault and maybe it was but I said i’d be completely honest with you and I think the fact I was raped when I was young may be the reason for who I am now…kind of like a knock on effect.

Sometimes I lay awake at night with the memories running through my head, again and again…they just won’t stop. I still have poems that I wrote when I was seven about him…

“I feel his stare as he strips me bare, turns me over and rips off my underwear…”

“Why will no-one believe me even when they see the bruises he leaves me?”

“My head bangs the bed, blood drips from me where i’ve bled, please god, please let him beat me dead”

Ok, so I was seven…i’m a lot better of a writer now. Probably the one thing I am actually good at nowadays. I’m sorry if people think I am being stupid by posting stuff like this but I am doing this for me, not you.

Eventually my mum found out what he was doing to me after a trip to the doctors. I can’t remember the whole trip but I do remember little bits…lying on the table while three shadows looked over me, examining every bit of me for scratches, marks…scars that I still own.

Sometimes I have dreams of killing him or to be specific…making him kill himself – Right infront of me. Slitting his throat and watching the blood run down his chest onto the floor, then I pick him up while he’s stuggling to breathe and throw him into the fire…watching him writhe as his face slowly slides from his skull.

I hate myself for feeling like this…i’m just as bad as him and you know the worst part…when I think about doing this to him, I smile.

I’d go with second or third. Personal problems are poorly addressed in the first person.

I finally got my free Win7 upgrade, only MS has screwed up again. They deleted the email program. Their bright new idea is to use Live mail, I don’t want my emails residing on their computers or anyone elses. I want them all on my own hard drive. So I installed Thunderbird, great except it doesn’t list Windows mail as an option for importing folders and emails. Now supposedly none of them were deleted, they are all supposedly still on my hard drive, but where, that’s the big question.
I am beginning to regret eve buying the new computer, especially since it’s a 64 bit monster. The one time in my life I jump ahead of the curve and it’s nothing but trouble, problems and I can’t even use it for the reason I bought it. That would be to run the firewire mixer, Vista was a total bust, driver issues, or rather a lack of drivers was the issue.
But why the dropping of the email program, as well s the movie maker and a few others. If their brainstorm was to force everyone into using their online crap it’s gonna backfire big time. And rightly so. Makes those new ads with people all saying I made Win7 the way I wanted it to work a real joke now. IF I had wanted all my email online I cuold either use the one my ISP has, way to slow, or stick with Gmail or Yahoo, I mean Micro-soft is the last one I’m gonna trust with anything yet alone all my emails; their record speaks for itself on security issues. So for all the hours this upgrade took me, 14 hours to defrag the drive, seems that the auto settings in Vista never worked, through the almost 4 hours to run the upgrade discs, they failed the first try after an hour and gave me some error message and a Try it again suggestion.
They should at least have offered the Windows mail program as a download option for the millions of us that don’t want to trust them with our emails on their servers, they will never convince me it’s a safe place, again their lifetime record of security problems says it ALL.
So now I have to find, hire, some kid to find me a fix, if he can even find my emails that is, I’m talking thousands of them, years and years worth. Oh, and my address book is with them where ever that may be. And after hours of scouring forum after forum I find lots of people with the same problems and no one seems to have any answer other than get Windows Live Mail, do they all work for MS as shills, or what?
One last question. Would you spend a Dollar to buy back your country? Would you spend a dollar a week; for a year? Keep thinking about it will you. I’m working on how to get it set up. It’s a very simple plan, that’s why it will work. If the Government was to try it they would have a plan at least 10,000 pages long, which means there would be a multiplying factor for each page, to arrive at the number of the possible ways things could go wrong, and raise the cost. I still can’t figure out how most of them ever got elected the first time. We need to change the type of person we elect. No more city slickers with self serving silver tongues. Let’s give some other groups a chance, like maybe Loggers, Farmers, Ranchers [includes the hired hands, the Cowboy's], Construction workers, Truck Drivers, Firemen especially Smoke Jumpers, I would much prefer if they were all from the country or small towns of not over a thousand or two in population. People with a sharpened and simplistic sense of right and wrong, maybe they could revive the idea of honor, integrity, responsibility, honesty, etc. all on a personal level. It’s been a long time since those things were seen in the political arenas of this country, yet alone in office holders. Think about that too along with the $1 a week plan.

Over these past few years I know what it has been like to be on the top of your faith and I know what it is like to almost lose it. I know the arguments for both accepting and rejecting faith in Christ. I know how true Christianity and false Christianity look like and have experienced both sides of the proverbial coin.

And one major problem has allowed me to examine why I truly believe in Christ: hypocrisy.  This one major problem that has spread throughout the body of Christ is why I have wondered why I believe in Christ in the first place. This one major problem has made me wonder is it worth fellowshipping with those who call themselves Christians. And this one major problem has almost destroyed my faith, my ministry, and my life.

Jerks—I can’t stand them. If anyone is honest with himself or herself they would probably say the same thing. I mean, who says that they love jerks? I mean anyone with half a brain would probably say, “I can’t stand jerks.” I mean that’s just me, but who knows these days. But it seems like the epidemic of “jerk-itis” is on the flippin’ rise. I see girls that are in love with macho jerks; I see people in government that are elitist jerks; I see corporate executives that are greedy and are ravenous jerks; I see jerks, jerks, and more jerks.

But the one place I have seen more jerks in my life than any other place unfortunately is not in the clubs, Washington, D.C. , or on Wall Street—nope, the place I have seen my fair share of jerks is in the church. Now it is one thing for some atheist to write this statement; but this is coming from someone who is a passionate believer in Christ, who loves Christ and His church, and was a former “jerk.”

You see, when I first became a Christian I was brought up more with the mentality of being a legalist jerk than being a compassionate servant. For me it was all about being right and wrong and it was about who could be the most holy and dress in the best suit. It was about politics and about CCM (hating it, then liking it, then having to hear it is the “devil’s music,” then finally liking it). It was about going to that “Christian college,” and abstinence and about dating is bad and courtship is good. In the end it was about me, myself, and I. I didn’t even grasp the picture of what authentic Christianity looked like until recently in life. All I was seeing previously was hypocrisy, fundamentalism, legalism, and everything that the Lord hates but the things that permeate the Church.

Jerks are everywhere man and they come in all shapes and sizes. They are nonbelievers but they are believers as well. I am not saying that the things above like CCM, abstinence, and courtship are bad things. But having the attitude that because I like or practice those things makes me better than you is “jerkish.” What we need to do to eradicate the “jerk-itis” syndrome that is going around the church today is replace everything “we hate” with the royal law as James puts it: to love God and to love others. If we would become a band of believers that were known more for who we love than for what we hate—the world wouldn’t have to see us as bold-face bigots or hatemongers; we could be seen as revolutionaries, as compassionate servants of the kingdom desiring life change in every individual life.

I have been there and done that when it comes to being a “jerk,” and now I abandon it for something authentic—a true servant of Christ. Laying aside any fundamentalism, or legalism, or judgmentalism, or homophobia, or hypocrisy, or anything that would hinder me from opening up the truth of the gospel with others—I serve God with all my heart and love God and love others.

Here’s a “short test” to see if you pass or fail the “jerk test”:

“With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be.” (James 3:9-10)

So if you praise God yet curse men, you pass the “jerk test” with flying colors, and if you don’t, well then you fail. If we were honest with ourselves, I would say we all have passed and have been there, done that. Let’s resolve never to commit the act that James has spoken of, but let us always do the following:

“If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself,’ you are doing right.” (James 2:8)

“Rois et reine” or “Kings and Queen” tells the story of a man and a woman who were going through their own problems in life. Initially, the two camps seemed to be unconnected because of their predominantly disparate tones–one comedic and one tragic. Nora (Emmanuelle Devos), who lives with her third husband-to-be, visited her son Elias (Valentin Lelong) and father (Maurice Garrel). After Nora’s father confessed to her that he has been having some stomach problems, she took him to the hospital and found out that he was terminally ill. This caused a great interruption on the life she desperately wanted to believe was going great because she now had to deal with where to put her son because he and the third husband do not get along. She also had to deal with her sister who only used their father for money and what the father really thought of Nora. On the other hand, Ismael (Mathieu Amalric) was sent back to the mental hospital against his will. In there, he found amusing ways to cope such as finding romance and discussing his psychology with a psychiatrist. Although this film was about a many things at once, it impressed me because in a span of about two hours and thirty minutes, it was able to balance comedy and drama throughout. What’s more impressive was Arnaud Desplechin’s, the director, ability to cut to one genre to another when things began to feel suffocating. So, in a way, it worked as two different but good films but the connections that the two had made it that much more enjoyable. Just when I thought everything was going to wrap up in a neat little package when Devos and Amalric finally had a scene together, more problems began to appear because two had a history. Many questions were then brought up such as when one’s responsibility should end when a relationship has been mutually agreed upon as over, whether the mother is doing the right thing by indirectly choosing her third husband over her only child, and the pros and cons of keeping a certain knowledge a secret when the burden is too much to bear. There was a certain organic feel in the film which made me believe that the events portrayed could have happened in real life. I thought one of the strongest scenes in the movie was its ending–the conversation between Amalric and Lelong–because it remained true to itself: with every negative comes a positive (and vice-versa). “Rois et reine” is the perfect film for those who love character studies of individuals who have many imperfections but still have certain reedeming qualities.

Why do guys travel in packs?

It makes it so difficult to talk to them!

The death of a major football team always hits the front pages, such as the demise of Gretna F.C in 2008. The treatment is different if you are a small junior club.

Liberton United Football Club are in threat, not of administration or liquidation, but under threat of having to move away from the training facilities they currently use. The main problems are that the nearest facilities offered by the Edinburgh City Council are a quarter of the size and are in a pretty poor state.

So why have Liberton United not been in the papers? Because the club are split into the different teams, depending on age groups and they are unfortunately children.

Help was not being offered from the usual means for children related problems. Mr.Moray, representing the club announced that Tommy McClane, of the Children and Families Department refused to help them. This was quickly refuted by varying Councillors, most notably from the Liberal Democrats who are head of the Council administration.

Following up two weeks after, a player for the under-16’s squad, Liam Byrne noted that ‘the situation was still bad, and the future looking bleak.’ When asked how it was looking bleak he replied
‘We have a good track record as a club and are looking at developing the squads even further. Liberton and the surrounding area are far from the city centre and things to do. The new grounds will be across two main roads making it difficult for younger children to cross safely, this could result in a serious accident and almost certainly the club losing younger players due to safety concerns.’

Conor Snowden is the Liberal Democrat Councillor for the ward of Liberton and Gilmerton, therefore a certain responsibility lies with him. He pledged at the Council meeting that he would strive to help improve the situation for Liberton United, a statement that he is following through on.
‘I have been in contact with the Children and Families Department, and at this moment in time we are looking at the best possible avenue for the Council and the club to take.’

It is clear that Liberton United mean a great deal to the community, it gives youngsters a chance to keep off the streets and learn good social skills whilst enjoying themselves. The club is made up of volunteers and they receive no funding from the City Council, all of this adds up to the overwhelming sense of support for the club.

But perhaps all is not as it seems as Cllr Snowden highlights
‘St.Catherines Park is the best possible solution, it requires no main roads to cross, and offers good sized facilities and playing space. If the club continues to refuse to budge then all hope of salvaging something positive will be lost.’

Evidently both sides need to thrash out an agreement before the situation becomes more volatile and the club leaves it too late to make a decision.

No, this post is not about one of the John’s Travolta movie. Is more about how hard it is to stay alive on the business side of life, and how often the Murphy’s law seems to be the only law that actually is accurate, and that everything goes wrong when it will do the most harm possible.

With the actual economic downturn, sales are almost something of the past, and although I was thinking that it was more related with the incapacity of the company to sell new products or the generate new prototypes that could interest new buyers to acquire our products, but talking with other people in other industries and other countries, everything seems to be really flat and sales very low.

Without sales and incomes keeping a productive capacity able of producing content becomes very hard as you can keep for ever a structure with a high burn rate, without any kind of money flowing in. Tought measures needs to be taken, and then everything is a spiral of complexity and problems.

How to keep alive them? I wish I could know the answer, but from the mistakes and successes of my recent past, I would say the secret lies in :

i) Do your homeworks. Search constantly for new sources of financing (public or  private); Constantly work in new ideas, new projects and new lines of work

ii) Don´t take investment decisions based on expectations, but rather based on realities, until you don´t have an agreement on your table to be signed everything is virtual, and you may end with investments that you don´t need.

iii) Don´t tolerate inefficiency, failure or negative thoughts in the company. As soon as you are detecting any of those, act immediatly, or it will be a growing problem.

iv) Don´t loose motivation. Be an optimist, because in the end, even if you are not able to find a solution, you will be stronger and more experienced for the next time.

La venganza es un plato que se sirve mejor frío.

Me gustaría gritaros “zorras, putas, calculadoras de los cojones” pero, como supongo que podréis leerlo, no lo haré. Espera, ¿lo he hecho? Vaya, qué pena. Es un blog, puedo poner lo que quiera ¿no? ¿Y si no? ¿Qué es lo peor que me podéis hacer? ¿Echarme? Bueno, pues si hay que afrontarlo, se afronta. Pero, como he dicho, sólo me remitiré a la frase de arriba: venganza.

Venganza, ¿por qué? Porque no os importa una mierda lo que significan ellos, sólo conocerlos. No os importan los fans, no os importa nada de lo que hagan mientras no podáis verlos. Y eso no es ser fan. Eso es ser inútil. Eso es aprovecharse de ellos y eso sí que no lo voy a permitir. Podría encajar la derrota si hubiese sido justa, pero como no lo ha sido, no tengo que encajar nada. Me dais pena. Pena porque la vida no es como la pintáis vosotras y algún día os darán una hostia y me reiré en vuestra cara. No podéis ir así por la vida.

Y ahora pensando, ¿por qué me vais a poder echar por poner esto? No digo vuestros nombres, no digo los suyos, no digo el de las organizaciones. Ahá, eso se llama falsa acusación. Y lo que os ha hecho daros cuenta, conciencia.
