To most monists God is immanent, temporal, becoming. He is creation itself, material cause, but not efficient cause. To most dualists, God is transcendent, eternal, Creator–efficient cause but not material cause. Aum.To explain creation, philosophers speak of three kinds of causes: efficient, instrumental and material. These are likened to a potter’s molding a pot from clay. The potter, who makes the process happen, is the efficient cause. The wheel he uses to spin and mold the pot is the instrumental cause, thought of as God’s power, or shakti. The clay is the material cause. Theistic dualists believe in God as Lord and Creator, but He remains ever separate from man and the world and is not the material cause. Among the notable dualists have been Kapila, Madhva, Meykandar, Chaitanya, Aristotle, Augustine, Kant and virtually all Jewish, Christian and Muslim theologians. The most prevalent monism is pantheism, “all is God,” and its views do not permit of a God who is Lord and Creator. He is immanent, temporal–material cause but not efficient cause. History’s pantheists include Shankara, Vivekananda, Aurobindo, Plotinus, the Stoics, Spinoza and Ashvaghosha. The Vedas proclaim, “As a thousand sparks from a fire well blazing spring forth, each one like the rest, so from the Imperishable all kinds of beings come forth, my dear, and to Him return.” Aum Namah Sivaya. – Sathguru sivaya Subramuniya swami

Acts 14: 1-3 At Iconium Paul and Barnabas went as usual into the Jewish synagogue. There they spoke

Acts 14: 1-3
At Iconium Paul and Barnabas went as usual into the Jewish synagogue. There they spoke so effectively that a great number of Jews and Gentiles believed. 2But the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers. 3So Paul and Barnabas spent considerable time there, speaking boldly for the Lord, who confirmed the message of his grace by enabling them to do miraculous signs and wonders.

That Which Fills You, Spills Out of You

God hasn’t commissioned all of us to be apostles and prophets, be we all do have a mandate to share the Lord. While most of us will agree upon the commission that was given to the believers in Mark 16:15, “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature”, many of us don’t feel qualified or comfortable sharing the Lord with others. How is it God would have us to share Him when preaching and teaching may be so far from who we are? What does this word preach mean? The word “preach” in the Greek here is kēryssō. It means, “to be a herald, to officiate as a herald, to proclaim after the manner of a herald, always with the suggestion of formality, gravity and an authority, which must be listened to and obeyed. To publish, proclaim openly: something which has been done.”
A herald is a messenger making a public proclamation. Some of us may say, I don’t feel comfortable or knowledgeable about talking about the Lord. That is something we need to work on getting over. The best witness is the one who is filled with the Spirit of God. Why are they filled with the Spirit of God? Most likely they are filled because they spend a good deal of time in His presence. They feed upon the Word, they are worshippers who spend time in His presence and they are intercessors who stand in the gap for others.
Why is it we don’t have any trouble talking sports, TV programs or who has the best bargains? We easily talk and converse about the subjects that we are most saturated in. If we are to more easily converse and share the message of the Lord of glory with others what is going to give us the comfort, the gravity and the authority to share that message more than saturating ourselves in Him?
The Word says, ‘that out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.’ What are we filling our mind and heart with? If it is the things of God, then it should be spiritual things that flow freely from our conversations. We should easily acknowledge God’s working in our lives even in normal conversation. Even when we are not speaking verbally we are communicating non-verbally with our actions and attitudes. Paul declares in 2 Corinthians 3:2-3, “You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everybody. 3You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.”
Some have taken this commission to preach the gospel of the kingdom as being ‘in your face’, dogmatic, judgmental and often rude. That attitude probably drives more people away from Christ than it ever draws to Him. All we need do is look at our example Jesus, to see the kingdom of God operating out of Him with love and humility, and yet with authority and confidence.
If we would be the epistles of Christ, read of all men, then what are our life and our words communicating to the world around us? That, which fills you up, will spill over in all you do and say.

Blessings,

OLD TESTAMENT SCRIPTURE RESOURCE

This post contains scripture verses that tell us to lift our voices in song to the Lord as well as verses that speak of praising, exalting, blessing, worshipping, magnifying, thanking, and glorifying the Lord. Verses are placed in Biblical order so that this post can be a useful resource for those who want to use the Psalms and other worship scriptures in their personal worship, as well as for those who lead God’s people in worshipping Him. More verses will be added as time permits.
(Key West photo by Herschel Avra, 2010)

Note: To view a different translation of any verse, begin typing the verse into your search engine, and the Online Parallel Bible,
http://www.biblecc.com
, will come up as one of the choices. You will immediately go to the page for the verse you have typed and be able to see several translations at once. You can then close the window and come right back to this resource page if desired. (Bible CC is also a great resource when you know a verse or portion of a verse but not the reference.)

New feature: With our most recent update to this worship scripture resource, we added a new feature. The Bible book and chapter are still listed before each verse, and we have now added key words in bold in front of each scripture to help you find worship scriptures with the kind of message you are seeking more easily.

And they rose early in the morning and went out into the wilderness of Tekoa; and as they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Hear me, Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem! And when the burnt offering began, the song to the Lord began also, and the trumpets, accompanied by the instruments of David king of Israel. The whole assembly worshipped, and the singers sang, and the trumpeters sounded; all this continued until the burnt offering was finished. When the burnt offering was finished, the king and all who were present with him bowed themselves and worshipped. And Hezekiah the king and the princes commanded the Levites to sing praises to the Lord with the words of David and of Asaph the seer.
The scriptures in this post were compiled by Cynthia A. Boyd for our page entitled “Lift Your Voice (Worship Scriptures)”, which contains worship scriptures for both the New and Old Testaments. We decided to publish the scriptures in separate Old and New Testament posts to make it easier to view the New Testament worship scriptures without having to scroll through the Old Testament scriptures first and to make it easier to find this resource on search engines. It is our hope that having 3 separate entries (2 posts and one page) appearing in web searches will result in allowing more people to find and utilize this resource.

On a dark winter’s night, hope came to earth as a baby. God became flesh and cried among us.

His family was unconventional: young parents, a virgin mother. He was born in disgrace, welcomed only be shepherds and animals. Later some wise men showed up, but their presence triggered infanticide from the mad king.

So Jesus didn’t stay in Bethlehem. He didn’t stay in Egypt. He came into the world quietly, but he came for the whole world.

So, this Christmas season, let’s look out, around us. What can we do this holiday season to spread the message of Christ?

Several organizations accept special donations during this time, including World Vision, Samaritan’s Purse, Mission Aviation Fellowship, ACTION International, and AWANA.

At YMI, we firmly believe that action is a vital component to faith. If we never do anything as Christians, if the love of God never compels us to act, then why are we wasting our time on this religion thing?

We want to give teens the opportunity to act on their faith, to move outside their comfort zone and share the Gospel through word and deeds.

As an evangelistic ministry, we also think it’s vital to give teenager opportunities to share their faith through WORDS, to proclaim the word of Christ.

We’re also accepting donations to make our mission happen. We’d love for you to support this! If you’d like to donate, you can do so by clicking on the logo below.

When Paul was writing to the Philippian believers, he was in prison in Rome. Have you ever been in prison or felt imprisoned? Did you use that time purposefully? Paul was single-minded in his imprisonment. His goal was to proclaim Christ and spread the good news of salvation. God allowed Paul to be effective even in prison. We see in the end of the book that many in the household of Caesar became followers of Christ!

Adverse circumstances can be used to advance the gospel. Whether you find yourself at home with an illness, in a difficult work environment, at home with little children, in a retirement home, caring for elderly parents/spouse, or in prison; those can all be opportunities to point people to Jesus, to love people like Him and to pray for people.

During Paul’s imprisonment, more free men started to proclaim Christ with boldness–some with pure motives, some not. It did not matter to Paul, the only thing he cared about was that the gospel was going forth!

It is so easy in our country to knit-pick pastors…to judge their hearts, to make assumptions! I have been sucked into this very thing recently, and convicted. If Christ is proclaimed, then we ought to rejoice!

Has the Lord redeemed you? Then speak out! Tell others he has redeemed you from your enemies. Psalm 107:2

A true redemption cries out the goodness and mercy of God, no rules and restrictions can keep it quiet!

Every deliverance the Lord did in our lives was to release others; every yoke the Lord broke in our lives was to set others free; every brokenness the Lord healed in our lives was to comfort others – all by speaking out that it was the Lord Who did it!

Let’s tell that our enemy was defeated and our Redeemer is able! The moment they believe the enemy will lose his power over them.

For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes” Romans 1:16

I don’t think I could ever tire of Advent. It is such a unique time of year in the church, full of traditions, remembrance, and songs that remind us of our Savior’s birth. I trust that your Advent started off as well as ours did here at Fillmore. Last week, our theme was “Repent” and we talked about preparing our hearts for Christmas and for Jesus’ birth here on earth. This week, our theme is “Proclaim.” This is where we’ll delve into the traditional Christmas story, starting with the angel’s messages to Mary and Joseph. Though these verses are ingrained in our memories from years of hearing it told, the angel’s message must have been pretty confusing to Mary and Joseph, at least at first. This lesson focuses on that message and obeying, even when what God is telling us seems confusing.

Goal: Today we will learn that we should always obey God, even when His message seems confusing.

Key Scripture: “But the angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.’” – Luke 1:30-31

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Device to play a YouTube video

2 Bibles

2 large cut-outs of trumpets

Markers

Envelopes

Slips of paper

Paper horn template for each child

Crayons

Scissors

Tape

Introduction: Ask the children if they have ever felt confused. Talk about what it feels like to be confused. Explain that sometimes directions can be confusing, like the directions that a girl named Cayti’s received one morning. Show this video of Cayti, a girl whose parents wake her up early one morning, show her a video, then ask her to read and follow clues out to the garage, where they reveal that they are taking her to Disney! After the video, talk about what might have happened if Cayti decided not to listen to the confusing directions her parents gave to her. She might not have gone to Disney! Explain that there are some people in the Bible, Mary and Joseph, who received some confusing messages from God and chose to obey anyway.

Lesson: Form two groups and give each a Bible, a large cut-out of a trumpet, and some markers. Have one group read Luke 1:28-35 and the other read Matthew 1:20-24. Have each group sum up the angel’s message and how Mary and Joseph reacted to it on their trumpet. Have each group share what they have written on their trumpet.

Ahead of time, write the following sentence with each word on a separate piece of paper (make two sets, one for each group): You are going to do an amazing thing that will help the world love God. Seal each piece of paper in a separate envelope. Say: “The angel’s message may have sounded confusing at first to Mary and Joseph. Let’s see how we feel when we get a message that’s a little confusing.” Pass out the envelopes. Have kids open the envelopes and work together to make a sentence out of the words. Don’t offer any help unless several minutes have gone by and kids are still struggling.

Discuss the following questions as a group:

What was confusing as you tried to put together the message?

What do you think made the angel’s message to Mary and Joseph so confusing?

Which rules in your life or commands from the Bible seem confusing to you?

Say: “Mary and Joseph both seemed a little confused by the angel’s message. But both obeyed anyway. Mary and Joseph show us that even when we’re confused, we still obey God, because He has incredible things in store!”

Conclusion: Distribute a paper horn template to each child (These are readily available online). Explain that this paper horn can serve as a reminder for what they have learned today. Explain that they should decorate the horn with pictures or words that help them to remember what we learned today (i.e. an angel, the word “obey,” etc.). After coloring, the children can cut out the horn and tape it into shape. As the children are decorating their horns, talk about the reminders that different children have chosen to include on their horn and how those reminders can be helpful to everyone.

Note: Some of the content for this lesson was taken from the November/December 2012 edition of Children’s Ministry magazine.

I love the wisdom of our Heavenly Father sending out young humble servant men and women out into the world to do missionary work. Our young men and women are simple, they don’t profess to know everything in the scriptures, they don’t have to know everything all at one time to be ministering to others. Many people in the world mock them for this reason and want to showcase to others how little they know. However, what people don’t know, is that they belong to God’s true church. They have the gift of the holy ghost. They have the message of repentance that they themselves have to live by. They have the message of faith in Christ that they have tested and continue to test out. They have a testimony of all of this and no man can rob that from them. The world’s scripture masters, theologians, and master minds will always be unequally matched, because they are too busy puffed up into themselves, too busy trying to make others look bad, always trying to be right, and always being wise into themselves not once glorifying the lord for his word. How so sweet are the servants of god in comparison, I can almost taste it’s sweetness (spiritually speaking). Humility is sweet. Might we seek to continue being humble servants of God. God bless.

(The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints sends out young men and women who want to serve a mission at as young as 18yrs old…this can also include young men and women not in this church who do Christ’s work also)

What does it mean, to “hold nothing back” when announcing disastrous news? He hefts the horn in his hand, turning it around so that the blown end faces away from him. When he looks down from his rooftop, he sees a large city filled with people and man-made people, statues whose silhouettes he often mistakes for a real person.

He’d most likely be arrested for “disturbing the peace”, whatever that may mean in such war-ridden times. So it seems inconsequential whether he makes a normal proclamation, or one that forces his entire being out of his lungs.

But a promise is a promise, so he spins his horn around and proclaims.

He proclaims of the lost, who have been wandering around for so long that they’ve forgotten where ‘home’ is. He proclaims of the seemingly good things that will make suffering seem all the more painful on every side. He proclaims of the skilled warriors who will leave nothing behind, the death of the survivors, and the fire that will be lit to burn it all away.

As you begin today, take three deep breaths, exhaling stress and inhaling fresh air.

Jesus, the Holy Spirit was upon you and anointed you to bring good news to the poor, to proclaim release to the captives, recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor. Having heard this good news, may we also proclaim it boldly and with joy! Send your Holy Spirit that we might be filled with hope in you and may this hope overflow to all around us. In your name, we pray.

Close with the Lord’s Prayer, noting if any thought strikes you as you’re praying these words today.
