Prosper’s Parks Continue to GROW!

The Town of Prosper continues to grow its public parks and trail system.

With an investment of $9.3 million the Town during the next 12 months is constructing Phase I of its first Community Park consisting of a 5-plex of baseball and softball fields and 5 soccer fields.

The site is located just west of the new Prosper High School and is being developed as part of a master planned project in partnership with the Prosper Independent School District. When completed the Town’s park will have at least 9 baseball/softball fields, 11 soccer fields, a large pond for fishing, picnic areas, walking trails and pavilions.

Currently the Town has over 208 acres of open space, 120 acres of which is in parkland, 4 lighted baseball/softball fields, 2 lighted soccer/multi-purpose fields, a 27 acre recreation lake of and over four miles of hike and bike trails.

The Town’s partnership with the PISD continues with the seasonal opening of an indoor practice facility used by local youth sports organizations. Plans are also being finalized for the construction of additional park improvements and the continued expansion of park space including passive and active recreation.

There is no substitution to love
no other power that can break down barriers as quickly
no other vibration that can reveal the truth dissolve the blocks
and overcome the adversity that is often perceived in your conscience
you must focus on love in order to clearly see the best and highest for your life
whether it be focusing on what moves you to do be and have
or whether it be focusing on receiving the vibrations from source to allow you to align
it is all related
there are so many ways for you to connect to love
it is truly a matter of choice
a matter of seeking what works best for you in any given moment
realize that you can do what you love and prosper
and in fact this is the only way to fully prosper on every level
doing what you love is being in tune with love
doing what you love is a meditation within itself
doing what you love is alignment with source
doing what you love is why you are here
do what you love in a way that is best and highest for all concerned yes
seek that wisdom from source
that guidance to show you how to lead you step by step in the manner that will benefit all
this is your role this is why you came
this is what you are here to remember
yes and so it is

Peer-to-peer lending services like Prosper got a new lease on life from the House of Representatives

Peer-to-peer lending services like Prosper got a new lease on life from the House of Representatives today, which included an amendment to move regulation of the space from the SEC to a new banking regulatory agency in a major financial reform bill.

Previously the SEC had claimed regulatory oversight over P2P lending, forcing services like Prosper to shut down while undergoing a process to register its loans as securities. The regulatory mess effectively stunted the nascent market; while Prosper and Lending Club made it through, Zopa decided to pull out of the U.S., and smaller services shut down or have yet to be approved.

However, if the Senate and President Obama approve the legislation, by next spring peer-to-peer lending could be overseen by the new Consumer Financial Protection Agency. Sure, it’s just swapping in a new regulator, but Prosper CEO Chris Larsen said he thinks it’s a better fit than the SEC, which is built to regulate investors, not borrowers.

Larsen, who saw his company go dark for nine months from October 2008 to July 2009, told us he’s ecstatic about the bill’s passage. “It declares that peer-to-peer lending is not a security, which we think was very obvious in the first place,” he said. Prosper was able to make it through because it had raised $40 million in funding from investors like Accel Partners, Fidelity Ventures and Benchmark Capital, but the shutdown was “quite painful and very expensive,” said Larsen. Now, with the legislation on the books, Prosper feels confident it can go out and raise more funding.

A fascinating development in the US as a new regulator for peer-to-peer lending appears following vigorous efforts from Prosper to promote an even handed regulatory regime for both borrowers and lenders. Currently the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is the prime regulator, and a similar situation exists in Canada. The creation of the Consumer Financial Protection Agency (CFPA) is apparently designed to protect consumers in a host of financial services from p2p lending to reverse mortgages. Certainly more to come on that, but interesting for peer-to-peer lending.

Prosper Hails House Passage of Landmark Peer-to-Peer Lending Reforms

“Once again, Representative Jackie Speier and Chairman Barney Frank are doing the right thing by putting consumers’ and investors’ interests first,” said Chris Larsen, Prosper Chief Executive Officer and Founder of the Coalition for New Credit Models. “In terms of how the Bill relates to peer-to-peer lending, we’ve always believed that the industry should be regulated as a bank-like sector by a strong, holistic regulator focused on providing robust protections for both lenders and borrowers. The Obama Administration and other leading policy makers have been calling for the nurturing of alternative, transparent, and durable credit markets that will benefit consumers and small businesses; this landmark Bill heeds that call.” Prosper, together with the Coalition for New Credit Models, has advocated that America’s economic future depends on new and alternative credit models being embraced in the same way green technologies are being nurtured by policy leaders to help solve the energy and environmental crises.

To all who are in Christ, you are new creations! You have been fearfully and wonderfully made. You have been made in His image and His likeness. The authority that has been given to you is the authority of Jesus the Christ. We are joint heirs with Christ and we were designed to rule and reign on earth. The authority we have is released with our words. When spoken in faith, believing when we pray, we will have the same effect with the Word as Jesus had when He spoke. The greater works we will do.

All of creation waits, it travails for the sons of God to come forth. The time is now, now faith is needed, our communities and the world need us. Run through the camp and tell everybody “Get Ready”. This is not the time to waver, or stand double minded. For me and my house, we will serve the Lord. We put our trust in God, fully, uncompromising. We believe the prophets and know that we will prosper. We stand like trees planted by the rivers of water, and whatsoever we do shall prosper.

Above all, we love the Lord. We know likewise, that we owe no man anything, but to love them. This Christmas, do not undervalue, or fail to understand, the price Jesus paid for our restoration, and sonship.

It is my prayer that the eyes of your understanding be opened to this magnificent truth of God’s redemptive plan for you and the family of God!

Yes.

Why do the wicked live on, growing old and increasing in power?
Job 21:7

No. God extends the life of the faithful and shortens the life of the wicked.

O God, will bring down the wicked into the pit of corruption; bloodthirsty and deceitful men will not live out half their days.
Psalm 55:23

The fear of the LORD adds length to life, but the years of the wicked are cut short.
Proverbs 10:27

But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow.

I’ve been pondering something that I’ve seen happen a lot since I’ve been alive and it’s increased l

I’ve been pondering something that I’ve seen happen a lot since I’ve been alive and it’s increased lately with the new president and administration. When America was founded, it was founded as a haven for Christians. Because of its Christian roots, as it grew, it became known as a melting pot. It was a place where anyone, regardless of color, race, creed, etc. could have the opportunity to excel and prosper. They could have the opportunity to build the life they dreamed of in freedom and safety.

Nowadays, it seems as if someone has turned the heat down on the melting pot. It has become more and more common and popular to tout the differences between us than the things that we share. Now, there are so many different types of Americans that the word American has lost all of its meaning. There are African-Americans, Asian Americans, Italian-Americans, Polish-Americans, and on and on. Why is the American part last? What happened to just being an American? It’s like it is a curse to be an American without clarifying that you are a special type of American! I don’t understand this at all.

I understand the history of my country well enough to know that there are tragedies that have happened to different groups of people. The one that many people talk about most often is the issue of slavery. For decades, many “African-Americans” have touted that they have been the target of racism and discrimination. In some cases, I don’t doubt that this has happened. Many people always seem to talk about how the founders had slaves and that they didn’t do anything about it. That’s not true. Some of the founders did have slaves I don’t deny that. What amazes me is that many people hiding behind the race card seem to forget that it was other Africans that were capturing the slaves and selling them for money! The founders saw the slavery issue as something that would end on its own and many of them took care of the slaves they had like family. But this is not the only time that a group of people has been targeted for their specific heritage or beliefs. Irish immigrants faced this as they came to the country too. So did Japanese-Americans and Native Americans. So did so many others.

One of the things that got me pondering was something that I remember being said when Michael Jackson died. I didn’t care for the fiasco that was his final days and didn’t watch much of it. One thing I did catch was what some of those remembering him said. If I recall correctly, Jamie Foxx stood up and talked about how he was “ours” (the “black” community’s) and how “we” shared him with the world. Hardly anything was said about this being a racist remark. Why? Jamie Foxx had nothing to do with Michael Jackson being “shared” with the world. It was Joe Jackson who pushed him. It seems like the only time something said is racist is when it is said by a person with light skin. Any other time it’s ok. I don’t understand this either.

Another thing I don’t understand is how so many people play the race card and tout racism while they spew racial comments that do nothing to fix the divide that has been created and widened by their own comments. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton come to mind. “Reverend” Sharpton has been called out many times for saying things that are racist (like anyone that disagrees with the President is a racist…) and yet he’s one of the people that are supposedly trying to make things better! Something isn’t right there…It seems to me, if you wanted to fix the problems between the “races” you would stop encouraging the kind of hatred and poor thinking that got us here to begin with.

Anytime the issue of “race” comes up, Martin Luther King Jr. is not far behind. The “I Have A Dream” speech is lifted up as the utopian goal of every “black” person, but so many don’t seem to want to do what is necessary to see that happen. I’ve heard numerous times about how “white” people should “stop the hate”. I don’t get it. I also hear a lot about how “we” (“black” people) have been oppressed and downtrodden for so long. How? It’s not even as bad as it was in the 1960’s! The schools are desegregated and many “people of color” have high standing positions in business, academia, and politics. The poor thinking that has been propagated by a small number of people has been the standard for too long. While I’m sorry for what happened to the “blacks” that came here in slave ships, and I’m not happy about the things that happened in the 60’s either, I wasn’t there. And chances are, neither were you. Instead of dwelling on what has come before, can we not try to make things different now?

This all comes some thoughts I had on the upcoming Christmas season. You’re probably wondering how I could be thinking of “race” at a time like this. You may also be wondering why I’ve been putting words like “black”, “white”, “race”, and “people of color” in quotation marks. It’s all because of scripture. You see, the first thing that we need to do if we are going to see racism stop is to look at things from a biblical perspective. While I love my heritage (Czech), it’s only a small part of who I am. I love learning about where my family came from and what they did, but it’s not the only thing that makes me who I am. I was born in America. I am an American. That is my heritage. That may not be yours. You may have ancestors who have come from other areas of the world like Africa, Chile, or Australia. That’s great. You should enjoy that and learn about the history of your family, but that’s not the only thing that makes you who you are either. Not only that, regardless of where your recent ancestors came from, if you were to trace your family as far back as it could go, you and I would end up at the same place.

The Bible says that in the beginning, God created two human beings – Adam and Eve. From these two people came all of the other people on the planet. As the number of people grew and they separated (by choice or by God), they changed. Certain groups gained darker skin and other characteristics while other groups had lighter skin and different characteristics. None of that changes the fact that they came from Adam and Eve. And it doesn’t change the fact that you and I did too. That’s why I’ve been putting those words in quotations. I don’t believe that things like “race” exist. The Bible says in Acts 17:

So Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus and said, “Men of Athens, I observe that you are very religious in all respects. For while I was passing through and examining the objects of your worship, I also found an altar with this inscription, ‘TO AN UNKNOWN GOD.’ Therefore what you worship in ignorance, this I proclaim to you. The God who made the world and all things in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands; nor is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all people life and breath and all things; and He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation, that they would seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and exist, as even some of your own poets have said, ‘For we also are His children.’ Being then the children of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by the art and thought of man. Therefore having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent, because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed, having furnished proof to all men by raising Him from the dead.” (Act 17:22-31)

According to this passage, God has made us all from one (man). We are all descendants of Adam. This means that there is no such thing as “race”. We are one race physically and two spiritually. If we all started here, and understand that we are one race of human beings, then a lot of this other stuff automatically disappears. There is no more need for many of the things that have divided us. The problem comes when we try to use the differences between us. Have you ever stopped to think about how shallow the differences between us are? Yes, you may have a different skin color than I do. You may talk in a different language too. But, when you go to the doctor, does he have a special book for your “race” that tells him how to operate on you? Does he have a different book for me? No! There is no difference between us at that level. We are the same under our skin. While the differences in culture may be hard to overcome, they are not something that we should be using to gain advantage over one another.

It is because we are one “race” that the sacrifice of Jesus Christ can apply to all mankind. If it weren’t this way, then only certain people would be able to be saved. That’s not what scripture says. Jesus Christ died for the sins of the world. Anyone who comes to Him in repentance for their sins and faith that He alone can save them will be born again. There is nothing about that person having to be a certain color, creed, or ethnicity. Why should it be any different between us?

This also applies to Christianity. If you are born again, if you’ve repented of your sins and put your faith in Christ alone to save you, then you are my brother; regardless of the color of your skin or the language you speak. If you haven’t, then you are still part of my “race” and therefore I still see you with value. I see you as in danger of going to hell if you don’t repent, but you are still valuable. I could expand this to denominations as well. I just don’t understand them. There are a number of Christian denominations that feel that they are the only ones that are going to heaven. Why? If I am born again and do not adhere to anything that is heretical, why wouldn’t I go to heaven? Now, there are other faiths that DO ascribe to heretical ideals (Roman Catholicism, Mormonism, Jehovah’s Witnesses) and still claim to be Christian. This cannot be. If you put works together with faith to get into heaven, it’s not biblical. Both Mormonism and Catholicism say that you have to do good works to get to heaven. Catholicism also holds to dogmas (things you must believe to be saved) that are not found in scripture. The most glaring of these are the Marian dogmas. These say that Mary was without sin and that she is the co-Redemptrix with Jesus. Nothing in scripture talks about this at all. It denies the complete sacrifice of Jesus alone on the cross for the sins of the world.

Other denominations have begun to drift away from sound teaching (ok…some have just decided to dive head first into heresy). The Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA), Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA), and the United Methodist Church (UMC) have embraced homosexuality, even to the point of ordaining homosexual ministers. The UMC also has begun to promote universalism with their “Rethink” campaign. This is in direct opposition to the scriptures. This doesn’t mean that every member of the ELCA, PCUSA, or UMC agrees or holds to these things, but if they don’t, then I would look for somewhere else to go if it were my choice. We are not called to stay in a heretical church to fix it… The problem is that most denominations have come into existence over petty differences between two or three “leaders” or because of the cliques that have been allowed to form in the churches. They disagree on the color of the carpet or where the piano needs to be put or whether or not someone needs to say “In Jesus Name” when they pray or baptize. All of a sudden, there are thirty new denominations that have popped up. Is this really that hard? Jesus has told us what we should be and what we should be doing. Why can’t we just do that? That’s enough to keep us busy until He returns. And it’s what glorifies Him.

As the Christmas (yes, I said CHRISTMAS) season approaches, maybe you and I can look at each other as human beings created in the image of God and not as “black” or “white”. Maybe we can see each other the way that God sees us, as valuable enough to send His Son to die for us on the cross. If you’re a Christian, then maybe you and I can look at each other in faith and grace and stand together on the things that we agree on (one body, one Spirit, one hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God). As long as the others aren’t heretical, there shouldn’t be any problem! Maybe we can rejoice together this Christmas that our Savior came to show us the truth, to reveal to us the God that created us, and to die so that we might be reconciled to Him forever, even if you’re a different skin color than I am or speak a different language…

Peer to peer lending is fast catching up as an alternative source of affordable loans, and the prosper marketplace offers users an online platform where you request and purchase loans. You can set the maximum rate of interest you are prepared to pay, and on the other end, lenders will bid for loan requests of their choice by setting their desired interest rates. To receive loans you must undergo an identity and personal information verification process conducted by Prosper, and they will be in charge of all repayments. One of the upsides is that there are no pre-payment penalties applicable to these peer to peer loans, and furthermore they are amortized over three years, for its part Prosper collects a once off fee on all funded loans, this concept draws inspiration from other lending mechanisms such as micro-lending.

Founded by Chris Larsen , the lending platform opened its doors to the public in February 2006, it handles transactions in US dollars and only accepts US users. As can be expected, Prosper determines borrowers’ credit worthiness prior to lending request acceptance based on your Experian Scorex Plus credit score as follows – AA, A, B, C, D, E and HR (High risk), lenders can use this information to make informed decisions. As a borrower you can make use of endorsements by your Prosper group of friends and these are against your previous Prosper dealings, privacy is a priority on the platform – users only display screen names. Upon receiving loans borrowers can expect to pay an origination fee of between 1-3% and this is dependant on your credit rating while lenders part with 1% towards an annual servicing fee, the loans can be as high as $25,000.

Lenders receive their dues over a three year period, the payments made by the borrower accrue into a lenders account and are immediately accessible. Following a bruising securities violation lawsuit filed in November 2006, the prosper.com website relaunched on April 18, 2009 but only to shut down again in May following which an SEC registration statement for the venture was declared valid and actionable, this resulted in the resumption of full market place activities on the 13th of July, 2009. The online marketplace’s troubles with the law were not limited to the above only as the loan platform once had to make a filing with a bankruptcy court defending its position regarding a claim that it originated a loan to a user who had declared bankruptcy in violation of its own legal agreements.

Prosper has made much about the recent addition of Mr. Nigel Morris to its board - and the $1 millio

Prosper has made much about the recent addition of Mr. Nigel Morris to its board - and the $1 million he brought along to the party.

As has already been noted by observers with deeper insight into the mechanics of all things Prosper, this cash infusion is little more than a minor bridge-loan, priced at a relatively steep 15% interest. It is rather unclear how this fairly insignificant loan will impact Prosper’s future or delay what appears to be the inevitable demise of the company, as it continues on track to run out of operating funds in the near term.

On November 16, 2009, Prosper filed a 10-Q document with the Securities and Exchange Commission, which provides interesting insight into Prosper’s financial health. Based on what is known about Prosper cash burn, the recent cash-infusion only buys Prosper an additional couple of months, with Prosper now expected to go broke in February 2010.

Despite the lackluster pace of new loan originations, there is some sense that there is still some potential value yet to be unlocked in this company. What also remains unclear, however, is the extent to which Prosper is in a position to attract additional investments on favorable terms to operate beyond February 2010, considering the general current economic climate, the uncertainty regarding the viability of Prosper as a going concern, the current regulatory framework and Prosper’s situation with unresolved litigation.

Several churches from around the 380 Corridor (Frisco, McKinney, Little Elm, Prosper & Celina) came together this evening to organize and prepare to distribute food collected during the area’s Thanksgiving food drive. It was great to see a FANTASTIC turn-out of volunteers…way more than expected and tons of energetic kiddos (of all ages)! It was a ton of fun with very few exploded bags of sugar, flour, busted potatoes, etc…

I’ve got to give special props to my own daughter, Jessica. She enthusiastically insisted on following through with her personal plans to help despite having an ingrown toenail “fixed” at the doctor’s office less than 2-hours prior. You make me PROUD, Peanut!!!
