Frank Rich reflects on a bandwagon: “Palin is far and away the most important brand in American politics after Barack Obama, and attention must be paid.  Those who wishfully think her 15 minutes are up are deluding themselves.”  She may be a “brand,” but the issue is a relating nationwide scam – crammed down our throats and forced into our eyes at every turn.  How could those “15 minutes” ever end when the dominant media serves to propagate this joke upon us as if they have no journalistic responsibility regarding the credibility of a subject being reported on?  According to Bob Cesca, it’s a (hidden) reality show.  Media Matters for America’s Jamison Foser tagged it as an infomercial (without notice).  Yet, our Secretary of State bowed down to what is actually a puppeted clown by stating that she is open to having coffee with her.  In doing so, legitimacy was bestowed – needlessly and shamefully.  Palin is not an elected official.  She is a propped-up, talking-points, mouthpiece-for-conservative-propaganda Celebrity.  Stages given to her for voicing opinions on foreign policy, or any substantive issue, are ultimately insulting to all who are trapped within range of the following “news” cycle.  How could this be?  And, how could this charade continue growing?  The answer is that our prevailing media organizations, while sharing culpability with governmental desires, have sold us out – and into a land of “A Current Affair.”

This video is from Congressman Dan Lipinski’s Town Hall Meeting last week.   In it, Midge Hough attempts to tell the story of her daughter-in-law Jennifer. The 24-year-old was 7 and half months pregnant when she became ill.

The teabaggers scoff and shout.

She went to a hospital.  She had no insurance.  She was told she had bronchitis and was sent home.   The next day, her condition worsened and her husband took her to a different hospital.  He told the admissions desk they did have insurance.  Jenny was seen and diagnosed with severe double pneumonia, septic shock, and respiratory failure.  She was put on a respirator for the next 55 days.  She had a heart attack, a stroke, a brain bleed, and her baby died in the womb.

The bill amounted to over a million dollars and Hough makes the observation that the cost of that bill is going to be spread around to consumers.

Hough cannot continue her point however because of the hecklers in the crowd, the legitimate face of GOP constituency: teabaggers.

quite a while ago i met with maria to chat and have fun. after a while we also started to drink, a lot.

this does look out of place, considering the previous introduction, but iirc maria asked me to not show her picture (in good resolution). so in place of maria here’s these two: stuffed dog and rubbery-hair bird-like thingie.

after about what must’ve been 4 hours of talk and drinks and about 1 hour of walking around we stumbled into this hidden ballroom. we were greeted in the most friendly way, given drinks and joined the discussion about almost every topic imaginable. i asked the other participants how they got there and they all said: ‘we just stumbled in here’

it was very dark there. this is 1/4th at f/1.8 and 400+2 (i think). does anyone know what the asian characters on the ‘flag’ mean?

then some other weekend i met with some other friends.

we set out to meet at kreso’s place, but i arrived too early and decided to walk around instead of busting in early. one of the things that  caught my eye during the walk.

Seit den Besetzungen diverser Universitäten in Europa und weltweit, wird viel über die Demokratisierung der Bildung gesprochen. Somit haben die Proteste bereits etwas erreicht. Die Allgemeinheit und die Medien sind ein wenig sensibilisierter auf die Thematik. Oder sollte ich sagen, zumindest diejenigen, welche nahe genug am Geschehen sind? Wie dem auch sei, ich habe mir ja vorwerfen lassen, keine konkreten Ideen zu bringen und dem Protest zu schaden. Wenn man aber z.B. den ersten Artikel betrachtet, so sieht man, dass ich dort bereits geschrieben habe, was heute in den Universitäten diskutiert wird: die Demokratisierung der gesamten Universität nach dem “3-Säulen-Prinzip”. Anbei eine Erläuterung.

Die Universität wird geleitet und geführt von drei Säulen: Der Regenz (Legislative), des Unirats (Exekutive) und der Judikative (Kontrollorgan). Die Mitglieder dieser Gremien werden nach festgelegten Schlüsseln gewählt, wobei stets darauf geachtet wird, dass die Studierenden eine angemessene Stimme erhalten. Die Vertreter der Studierenden werden über die Fakultäten als Vertreter ihrer Wissenschaft gewählt, damit der Verteilung der Studierenden auf die einzelnen Studiengänge Rechnung getragen wird. Beansprucht eine Fakultät bzw. ein Studiengang nicht alle Sitze, so werden diese in fakultätsungebundenen Kampfwahlen vergeben.

Sowohl im Unirat als auch in der Judikative sollten Personen Einsitz nehmen, welche selbst nicht der Universität angehören. Dies sorgt dafür, dass die Öffentlichkeit und die Wirtschaft ihre Anliegen oder Wünsche äussern kann – entschieden würde letztlich aber alles von den drei Gremien gemeinsam.

Ein solches Reglement herzustellen wäre wohl ohne weiteres möglich. Einzig die Verträge mit den Trägerschaften müssten neu formuliert werden. Dies würde politische Arbeit bedingen. Man sollte sich besser auf mehrere Jahre Arbeit einstellen – das Studieren besser aufs Eis legen in dieser Zeit.

Diese Ideen wurden nun als rohes Gedankenkonstrukt formuliert und ziemlich rasch online geschaltet. Es handelt sich hierbei vorallem um einen Anstoss an verschiedene Personen. Ehrlich gesagt wäre ein solcher Text wie dieser hier das Mindeste gewesen, was man vor der Besetzung bzw. vor den Demonstrationen zu verfassen gehabt hätte. Ich finde es sehr bedauerlich, dass es versäumt wurde, solche Ideen öffentlich in Foren, Blogs, Diskussionsrunden, Zeitungen usw. zu diskutieren. Ich hätte mich lieber mit konkreten Plänen auseinandergesetzt als mit diffusen Feindbildern und Brandreden gegen Bologna und Präsenzkontrollen (wobei beides nicht einmal im Ansatz miteinander zu tun hat).

Ich freue mich sehr auf ergänzende oder weiterführende Kommentare

We condemn this action of Pakistan and UAE governments and show our full solidarity with independent media.

We expect the genuine journalists and analysts to continue their role which they have played against dictatorship, against emergency,against innocent killings and illegal abductions, against imperialist takeover of our country ,against NRO and corruption and the role to restore the independent judiciary of Pakistan.

Geo’s program ‘Meray Mutabiq’ banned from Dubai

KARACHI: A ban has been imposed on airing of Geo News’ program ‘Meray Mutabiq’ from Dubai.

According to sources, the high government officials of Pakistan exerting pressure on the Dubai government had the airing of the program stopped.

Geo’s administration has said that this step of the government is tantamount to targeting the freedom of expression.

It may be mentioned here that the senior analyst Dr. Shahid Masood was the anchor of ‘Meray Mutabiq’.

So some new news from Greenpeace.  Kumi Naidoo was appointed executive director of the environmental campaign group Greenpeace International this month after two decades leading civil society groups in Africa and internationally. Mr. Naidoo, 44, who is from South Africa, takes over the role at a time when environmentalism increasingly enjoys mainstream status.  Here is his introduction video.

Hummmm… So will there be any real change or will Mr. Naidoo tow the exaggerated and exceedingly irresponsible party line.  Well as he suggested in an interview with the New York Times blog Green inc.  he intends to maintain the party line thing.

Question;

Greenpeace has staunchly opposed nuclear power on a variety of grounds. But a number of former opponents of nuclear have come around to accepting this form of energy and now say that it may have a role to play in the future low-carbon power mix. Do you see any room for nuclear power — including the extension of licenses on existing nuclear power plants — in an era when governments and citizens are searching for low-carbon energy sources?

Answer;

No. Nuclear power is a dangerous distraction to real solutions. When you extend a nuclear plant’s life beyond what it was designed for, you make an unsafe technology even more dangerous, create even more waste, and put off decisions on adopting real solutions.

Why?

Actually it seems to me Mr. Naidoo, that more and more countries are considering, planning, or constructing nuclear reactors to supply clean, electricity to their populace.  I guess the belief that ‘civil disobedience is the only way to push our governments’ isn’t really working on the nuclear issue.  Like any industry, nuclear has grown to meet the challenges that has hindered it in the past.  The answers to the following questions were taken from ‘The nuclear Imperative‘ by  Jeff W. Eerkens, PhD Adjunct Research Professor, Nuclear Science & Eng’ng Institute University of Missouri

1) Nuclear is too expensive

Well this question must be taken in relativity to other solutions that have been offered to limit Co2 emissions namely a massive ramp up in renewable power sources.

Contrary to false propaganda by anti-nuclear groups, the cost of tera-watts of electricity is three times less expensive with nuclear than for wind or solar. Solar and wind power generation requires expensive energy storage systems (batteries, etc) when there is no sunshine or wind. Also many miles of access roads for maintenance and repair are needed to keep blades or solar panels clean from bird droppings, dead birds, sand erosion, and storm damage, and to periodically replace electrodes on storage batteries.

2) Nuclear is dangerous

Today’s nuclear power plants are absolutely safe. Because of the negative “coefficient of reactivity”, reactor fuel elements can only melt (an explosion is not possible) during a maximum credible accident in which the emergency core cooling system totally fails. This was “experimentally” proven in the Three-Mile-Island (TMI) accident. A negative coefficient of reactivity means that neutron multiplication is automatically stopped when the temperature in the reactor gets too high. The Russian Chernobyl reactor which took the lives of 57 people, had a positive coefficient of reactivity because it used graphite as moderator. That design for nuclear power plants was prohibited in the USA since the birth of nuclear power in 1950 and now prohibited worldwide. Furthermore the Chernobyl reactor had no containment vessel, as was/is the law in all Western countries and now globally. The assertion that perhaps thousands of people could still die from the fallout around Chernobyl is nonsense. Of the 60,000 inhabitants of Pripyat who had been exposed to fallout, about 12,000 will die at an advanced age of cancer because worldwide 20% of all people ultimately die from cancer. To ascribe those 12,000 deaths to Chernobyl’s fallout is equally ridiculous as claiming that such a death toll is due to drinking coffee because 20% of all people drink coffee.

3) What about the waste?

The volume of waste amounts to one aspirin tablet per year per person using nuclear electricity, compared to many tons of air pollutants and mega-tons of globe-warming gaseous CO2 emitted by coal or fossil-fuel combustion. Nuclear waste can be easily stored and safely transported, as the US nuclear navy has done for half a century. Contrary to allegations that uranium and plutonium in spent fuel elements pose a problem because of million-year half-lives, they will be separated from fission products by reprocessing and burnt as fuel in future fast-breeder reactors; they will not be dumped. This reduces 400 tons from a one-year accumulation of spent fuel per reactor to 2 tons of fission products, taking centuries instead of decades to fill Nevada’s Yucca or other waste repository. The notion that long radioactive lifetimes are undesirable is also erroneous. The longer the decay lifetime, the less the radiation emitted per gram of radio-isotope. All humans are “hot” because everyone has radioactive potassium-40 (K-40; 0.012% abundance) in the cells of his/her body, which continuously emits beta particles with a half-life of one million years! Man successfully evolved in this environment.

This perfectly sums up Greenpeace and its position on Nuclear.  No scientific basis.

It seems that on the nuclear issue there is no negotiation with the Greenocracy.  Their positions has been and will always be ‘If you hate it come and march with us.  If you’re on the fence you’re just ignorant and if you’re pro-nuclear you are Satan incarnate’.  The antiquated notion that nuclear is dangerous, predisposes Greenpeace out of any balanced debate on how to tackle climate change.  Its like having a debate with a creationist,  the ability to employ objectivity alludes them, rendering their position inadequate. Real solutions are needed quickly in our fight against Anthropogenic Global Warming, not hopeful suggestions and unachievable goals.  Thanks anyway Greenpeace, best of luck with your future endeavors in skewing the debate, clouding the issue and holding on to unjustified positions, but it seems that people are starting to move beyond your fear tactics and are begining to realize the potential of nuclear as a real substitute to fossil fuel generation.

This is really amazing no fair trial, no justice, baseless allegations on an innocent mother of 3 children two of which are still missing (if alive) and still they call their selves civilized fighting a so-called war against terror. NEW YORK – While a defiant Aafia Siddiqui declared that she would boycott her trial in January, a federal judge Thursday rejected her lawyers’ plea that she could not be tried in the United States as they pointed out that the Pakistani neuroscientist’s alleged crime took place outside the country. Ms Siddiqui, who was brought to New York in August 2008 from Afghanistan where prosecutors say she allegedly fired at US interrogators. No American was hit but she was shot in the abdomen and was charged with attempted murder and assault.
In a pre-trial hearing on Thursday, her lawyers, led by Charles Swift, argued that Dr Siddiqui could only be tried on terrorism charges in the US, and not on murder charges. In this regard, he quoted various international regulations.
But US District Judge Richard Berman ruled out the motion, saying that the US courts have jurisdiction if American citizens were subjected to attacks abroad, citing some precedents.
But Ms Siddiqui, who is languishing in a maximum security jail, interrupted her lawyers in US District Court in Manhattan to announce that she did not plan to participate in her trial, scheduled for Jan 19.
“I am boycotting this trial,” she declared. “I am innocent of all the charges and I can prove it, but I will not do it in this court.”
Since the very beginning, Ms Siddiqui has said that she has no confidence in the American judicial system or the lawyers appointed for her by the court – even those retained by the government of Pakistan – and that she wants to make peace and knows how to do it.
She has vigorously protested against what she called humiliating strip searches before she is brought to the court.
Judge Berman said that her trial would proceed after her lawyers and prosecutors visit Afghanistan to interview eyewitnesses to finalise their case.
Lawyers for Ms Siddiqui tried to convince the court that she was mentally incompetent to stand trial, citing in part her refusal to cooperate with lawyers and the reports of a psychologist who said she suffers from delusional disorder and depression.
Judge Berman rejected that argument after prosecutors pointed to psychological reports that concluded she was faking mental illness.
Berman on Thursday rejected defence arguments aimed at tossing out charges against Ms Siddiqui that carry a potential minimum prison sentence of 30 years and a maximum penalty of life in prison.
Before he ruled on the request, Dr Siddiqui said visits by her lawyers were “torture for me” and it was a waste of money for lawyers to go to Afghanistan to interview witnesses because she was not participating in the trial.
“I’m not dealing with them anymore,” Dr Siddiqui said of her lawyers. “They’re just people coming to my door and talking, talking, talking.”
During a break, Dr Siddiqui was led out of the courtroom by US marshals when she would not stop talking loudly. “Take me out,” she said. “I’m not coming back.”
She was not present when the judge made his decision.

אלוקים אוהב פרנסה טובה, בריאות, נשמה, נשימה, מים, ים, אגם, אוכל, קמח, פסטרמה, מיכל ינאי, מי זה, אוכלים ונהנים, צ’יפופו, אולגה, רנו פסקל, יואב סגל, קוקו מאילת, אבו צ’יצ’ו, חומוס, הכל בסדר, כן, גידי גוב, ואפילו דברים טעימים שמצופים בשוקולד.

אלוקים אוהב את כל השועלים והשועות והחיות הקטנות ואפילו הרסק עגבניות הזה שהילדים שמים ליד המלאווח וליד הפתות ועל הצ’יפס, נו, הדבר האדום הזה שנראה כמו דם של ווסת, נראה לי קוראים לזה קיצ’יפ, קיטשיפ, קיטשופ?

יהיה בסדר, כי כולנו ילדים של החיים.
