“The City of London is a district of London. Sometimes referred to as just the City. The City

“The City of London is a district of London. Sometimes referred to as just the City. The City vies with New York City as the financial capital of the world; many banking and insurance institutions have their headquarters in the vicinity. The London Stock Exchange (shares and bonds), Lloyd’s of London (insurance) and the Bank of England are all based there. London is the world’s greatest foreign exchange market, with much of the trade conducted in the City. Of the $3.98 trillion daily global turnover, as measured in 2009, trading in London accounted for around $1.85 trillion, or 46.7% of the total. Many major global companies have their headquarters in the City, including Aviva, BT Group, Lloyds Banking Group, Old Mutual, Prudential, Standard Chartered, Unilever and Ernst and Young.” (source wikipedia.org)

This info is widely available for everyone to see. As a professional I find it very interesting, indeed. However, travelling has another aspect which is a bit more personal in nature and here are some thoughts which might probably also have run or will run through your head when go to this great city. The first thing you need to know about London is that it is heavily populated. “Congestion ahead, please find alternative route” remains the weirdest sign I have ever seen by far. It greeted me when I was there for the first time in 2008. Since then I have been to London on a couple of occasions, both for business and pleasure. This last time (March 2013) was for the later. Or so I thought. Another thing I can tell you about the city as a whole is that it looks really distinguished with the skyline in the background (particularly with the Shard and the Gherkin overlooking on both sites of the Themes) but it also feels a bit impersonal.

The sheer number of people commuting every second using the veins of the city, also known as “The Tube”, is just staggering. This mass transportation service is one of the oldest ever to be built and given the propensity of the British people to stick to tradition, it seems it has not seen a lot of upgrades through the years. “Mind the gap” phrase is all too well-known to the foreigners, but I would also advise future travelers who have not yet been to the city to mind their step as well, before the train arrives, as the space on the platforms may be very narrow. In rush hour, especially, a lot of the major stations overcrowd very fast. On the positive side, my impression is that the Tube is very reliable and most of the lines run within a 2-4 min interval, so don’t worry about missing a train.

If you find yourself in London for pleasure, there are certainly plenty of sights to see, and all of them you can find easily in any guide book or website. Unfortunately, when I was there the cold was a bit too much for my liking and although it was the end of March it was snowing! So make sure to double and triple check the weather before you leave. Most of the sights run along the river, however there are a few which are scattered around. Therefore if you are on a tight schedule and only have a weekend or so to look around I would recommend you begin your journey from Westminster metro station and make your way down the river, from there towards Tower Bridge. I also recommend the British Museum as a really interesting place to visit, especially if you enjoy worldly artifacts from the ages. And when I say worldly I mean literally from every corner of the Earth! (Small hint: The Rosetta Stone )If you are more of an art person the preferable choice would be the National Gallery on Trafalgar Square. Many of the famous artists such as Van Gogh, Picasso, Monet and Degas will be there on display.

Dining can be tricky. Depending if you are on a company dime or eating out of your own pocket the number of choices will vary but will still be pretty high. Either way I would recommend starting your day with the famous traditional English breakfast, which believe or not, will keep you sated right until dinner. Beans, sausages, bacon, eggs, fried mushrooms and grilled tomatoes make for one hell of a meal. When they said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, they were right. And the British certainly took that adage to the letter. And don’t forget the tea! The tea is very important, not only because it is England but also because the quality and taste there is indeed exquisite!

As far as restaurants go, I have always found it difficult with menus in the UK as dishes often have some weird (to me) names, which I have hard time deciphering. Maybe because some of them are actually in French (sorry, but it is true). Beef stake with mushroom sauce or potato mash, however, I think will be your safe bet in most places. A wonderful restaurant for dinner is The Wolseley (www.thewolseley.com). It is very much in the center, close to Buckingham Palace. It certainly looks posh, but the prices on the menu are not all that high, considering the location, service and quality of the food. Remember to make a reservation online!

I hope this little intro gave you a small taste of what to expect when you arrive in London. So get ready, make the rest of arrangements for the trip and get yourself excited cause this is London we are talking about! So it will surely be awesome!

Have fun and good luck!

Sometimes it’s interesting to find out just how small the world is in disability insurance. On

Sometimes it’s interesting to find out just how small the world is in disability insurance. One of my clients is an ________ who has been asked by Prudential to submit to a neuropsychological test. Although there have been many complex issues with this claim, it began by my client challenging an RN by the name of ________ who wrote-up a medical review in which she stated information provided by the mental health provider was “vague.” As a result, Prudential still hasn’t paid the claim after 4 months of investigation.

Our investigators found RN __________ on the Internet and discovered she is an outsourced consultant for “Professional Disability Associates” and is licensed in Maine. Although Prudential’s address is in Philadelphia, Prudential does have a facility in Maine. It now appears my client’s claim is physically managed in Maine and the totality of medical review is outsourced to questionable sources.

In addition, a request has been made by Prudential to have the IME report and raw data sent to _______, and ________, two infamous claim killers who worked for Unum as Medical Directors. In fact, I’m in possession of a “Fibromyalgia White Paper” co-authored by ______ while he was still employed by Unum. Dr. ______ believes FMS patients should be told to “get up on the treadmill” and go back to work.

It certainly is a small world and no wonder both Unum and Prudential are considered #1 and #2 on the worst disability insurer list. I’m surprised that Prudential is outsourcing medical reviews to individuals who are probably charging the highest of fees.

DCS, Inc. intends to challenge Prudential’s choice of _________ and ________as “independent” reviewers of our client’s neuropsyche data since either one or both of these PhDs will likely write adverse reports. In addition, we will be filing a complaint on RN’s _______ nursing board in ME since she documented a report that is inconsistent with the mental records provided to Prudential. As a result, benefits remain unpaid and my client has been harmed.

Somewhere along the line, medical reviewers must be accountable for the accuracy of their medical and psyche reviews which should be consistent with patient notes and medical records provided. Sometimes it seems as though these reviewers aren’t even looking at the same medical records I just read.

Prudential and Unum use the same corrupt medical resources because they know reports rendered by these RNs and mental health providers work to produce more terminations of claims. If I’m not mistaken one of these neuropsychologists caused harm to our friends in the UK as well.

Anyone who would like to know the names of the RN and PhDs mentioned here can send me a private email and I will provide you with the names. I will publish my letter to the Nursing Board as soon as I have it written.

DCS, Inc. clients can login to Linda’s Buzz and read the unredacted post.

ADDENDUM

And the world gets even smaller. Upon further investigation I discovered that Prudential’s Vice President of Claims is Cathy Liston, an ex-VP of Unum at the time of the merger. Cathy Liston was actually fired by the good ol’boys from Chattanooga. She sued Unum for wrongful termination and lost.

As part of the Central Benefits Administration I actually worked for Cathy Liston who once told her Managers, “Go down there and tell them to deny more claims!” Apparently, VP Liston was feeling the “heat” to roll in target profitability.

Prudential in Portland is actually top-loaded with ex-Unum Medical Directors and VPs. No wonder the company has such a bad reputation.

By Kathleen Defever

Here’s a dynamic shift – in Washington, insurers are desperately arguing they are NOT IMPORTANT.

What forces of heaven and earth could cause massive insurance corporations to shy away from the spotlight? On a regular day in Washington, there are numerous (and persistent) insurance industry lobbyists actively vying for the federal government’s attention. What caused such a dramatic about-face?

Washington is gearing up to regulate insurers who are classified as “systematically important”. An insurer will be labeled systematically important if it plays a role in the smooth running of the financial industry.

After the near failure of mega-insurer AIG during the banking crisis, the federal government turned a wary eye toward the insurance industry. The insurance industry, like the pre-crisis banking industry, is largely unregulated by the federal government. Insurance has been traditionally regulated by the states. Depending upon which state a consumer lives in, this can either be a very good thing or a very bad thing. (I could elaborate on this for hours, but that’s a topic for another blog post…)

Naturally, after the disastrous recession brought upon us by the banking industry, and the closely interwoven relationship the insurance industry shares with banking and finance, legislators are a little nervous. No one wants to be held responsible for another massive crash of the economy, especially when it could be easily foreseen and prevented.

Once legislators determine which insurers are “systematically important,” they will subject them to tighter federal and international regulations, a la the current regime applied to the banking industry. Insurers are balking at this possibility, and frantically arguing that they are so different from banks that it doesn’t make sense to apply any extra federal regulation to them, even going so far as to claim they can only be categorized as victims of the banking crisis, just like the rest of us. Naturally, the reality is far more complex.

The insurers likely to be more heavily regulated are AIG, MetLife, and Prudential.

55 sebab kenapa perlu membeli takaful. (episode 5)

“To be uninsured is the greatest gamble you can take. And it is a particularly tragic one, for if you lose, it is not you but your loved ones”

Perbelanjaan menguruskan jenazah

Berapakah perbelanjaan untuk menguruskan jenazah? Cuba anda congak

Kain kapan,

Keranda

Van jenazah

Upah orang yang mandikan kita

Upah tukang gali kubur

Belanja kenduri arwah

Agak-agak berapa?

No financial company wants the FSOC to call it a SIFI. That would carry higher capital charges that would put it at a competitive disadvantage. For the last five years the FSOC has been taking AIG and Prudential through their three-stage process to determine if they should be a SIFI. It seems unlikely at this point that the government would ever put its own huge stake of AIG at a competitive disadvantage by naming it the only insurance company that’s a SIFI, even despite the fact AIG has already required a $182 Billion bailout, albeit due to its reckless derivatives trading.

I would therefore have to assume that AIG and Prudential will either be named SIFIs together or excluded together. MetLife is now probably thinking that AIG and Prudential will both get named SIFIs and it’s not far away. It’s unlikely any president would dare let AIG off the hook after that massive bailout. However MetLife is likely to get named for the same reason mentioned previously. The US Government won’t put AIG at a competitive disadvantage to a major rival competing in the life insurance business before selling off its stake in AIG, and that stage is huge. The lobbying efforts MetLife’s CEO Steven Kandarian is now undertaking looks like a very prudent response to this environment facing the company.

In February I wrote about how women are penalised with smaller pension pots because of the disparity

In February I wrote about how women are penalised with smaller pension pots because of the disparity in pay they throughout their working lives. This was backed up by research from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) which stated women earn less which in turn means they are able to contribute less to a pension pot.

And research published last week found women retiring this year will receive the lowest annual pension income since 2008, and receive £6,500 less than men, a report suggests.

The research found that the disparity in men as women’s annual income post retirement has actually increased by £750 since 2012.

The annual survey conducted by Prudential revealed average income for women is 64% that of men’s. It also found that women’s annual income after retirement is on average less than two-thirds (64 per cent) that of men.

This isn’t all. The situation is serious because following a high point in 2009 women’s pensions has entered a steady decline of £500 each year. Men meanwhile have enjoyed an increase this year with an increase of their income of £250 (on average).

It is well documented that the economic downturn has had a significant impact on female earning capability and this has led more women to take on part-time roles in order to still be able to contribute; but the obvious consequence has meant women have not been able to contribute as much as they would like towards their pension pot. Essentially women put family needs before their own.

The introduction of auto enrolment, where employers are obliged to enter all employees into a pension scheme may help alleviate the problem a little. However, in reality, and as a spokesperson for Prudential pointed out when interviewed by the Times newspaper on this subject last week, the gulf in retirement incomes has grown and it’s continuing to do so. The spokesperson predicted the gap would not disappear “for years to come”.

The Government promises the controversial single tier pension scheme will benefit women, but the above indicates significant and very worrying problems in the short to medium term and possibly beyond that.

And when the next crisis happens it will be a non-partisan financial force majeure.

Affirmations have been coming out more recently by those fed up with the dealings of Wall Street’s greed and fear operations. This post by John Meyers in Personal Liberty rings all too true.

Confessions Of An Ex-Stockbroker by John Meyers

The stock market is on a cliff. When it falls, it will not only erase the riches on Wall Street but your hard-earned savings. It is called deflation, and it will impact all of us.

I have a pretty good idea about stock market crashes because I have experienced four of them. The first was in 1987. The second was in 1989. The third was in 2001, and the last was in 2008. The monster crash for stocks is still to come.

The fundamentals both for the banking system and the economy and our dysfunctional Federal government will not allow current record stock prices to persist.

As major stock indexes reach all-time highs, there is the disjoint between the value of equity prices and the economic realities that will eventually have to support prices.

We live in a time Oscar Wilde described more than a century ago: “Nowadays people know the price of everything and the value of nothing.”

Everyone seems to know the price of the Dow Jones industrial average. Friends and family ask me how much higher the stock market will go. Few ask if it will go lower, while many offer their own stock tip.

It’s no different from 1929 when legendary investment guru Bernard Baruch said:

“When beggars and shoeshine boys, barbers and beauticians can tell you how to get rich, it is time to remind yourself that there is no more dangerous illusion than the belief that one can get something for nothing.”

When I suggest that the market is heading lower, people wave me off.

What most people seem to understand is that Big Board stocks keep setting records. Both the Dow and the broader-based Standard & Poor’s 500 Index are at all-time highs.

The S&P has gained 10 percent in three months. The Dow is up more than 11 percent. Yet the U.S. unemployment rate is close to 8 percent. America lost 8.9 million jobs in four years and has gained back only half of them.

The economic recovery exists only on paper because of massive cash injections by the Federal Reserve.

Only trillions of dollars’ worth of freshly printed money has prevented the United States from falling into an economic abyss.

But printing new money does not equate to creating new wealth. All the Fed has done is provided a cancer patient with copious amounts of morphine. It is a feel-no-pain regiment for the markets. But the cancer is still there.

Two things dictate investment behavior: greed and fear. For the past year, greed has consumed any fears.

I Wished I Had Sold Used Cars

In the spring of 1996, I was in an office on the eighth floor of the Washington Mutual Building in Spokane, Wash.

I was working for one of the largest brokerage companies in the country.

Each day on my desk there were Securities and Exchange Commission compliance books and stacks of practice exams to help me pass a registered investment adviser exam. Once I passed it, I could dispense investment advice to all.

To get the job, I passed the aptitude test by saying that 2 plus 2 equaled 4. I believe that the brokers who were fast-tracked said 2 plus 2 equaled 16.

Over the next six months, I studied securities laws that dated back to the 1930s. I also spent time in the lunchroom learning from seasoned brokers about ways to get around these laws.

Below sums up my experience as a stockbroker in training:

Question: How many stock brokers does it take to screw in a light bulb?

Correct answer: Two. One to take out the bulb and drop it, another to try to sell it before it crashes (fully knowing that it’s already burned out).

The advanced test for certified investment advisers was this:

Question: How many investment brokers does it take to screw in a light bulb?

Correct answer: Good God! It burned out! Sell every share of GE!

I remember the 6 a.m. Monday meetings in the conference room.

It was there that we received a call from the company’s grand poobah, Ralph Acampora. His name was synonymous with the dot-com bubble.

Acampora’s biography states: “He was an industry leader in technical analysis and a regular on popular weekly TV shows such as Wall Street Week with Louis Rukeyser. His opinions about the market were reported by major national newspapers.” [DC Ed. Click here for a sample of Wall Street Week video with Louis Rukeyser After the Crash - Part 1 - Wall Street Week Oct. 23, 1987]

I had been writing about investments for well more than a decade, so I knew about bullish Acampora and his never-ending expectations for higher stock prices.

The world said Acampora was a genius, which made it all the harder for me to understand his Monday morning call to arms. I suspected Acampora was not really trying to sell value to Prudential customers. But every Monday the sales team was given its orders.

One time, I interrupted the post conference meeting by suggesting resource stock. A group of 15 brokers looked at me like I was a heretic.

After several Mondays of listening to Acampora clairvoyance in picking stock market winners, I went to my manager.

The manager explained to me that Prudential had an inventory of stocks and that they had to be sold every week.

It hit me. My job was never to give quality investment advice. I was being trained to generate revenue for Prudential. I was a used car salesman. Even worse, I wasn’t even providing anything as useful as a used car.

I passed my exams for Prudential and the SEC. Once I did that, I was registered to attend a two-week sales boot camp in California. If I survived that, then I could push any stock, bond or mutual fund I wanted.

I decided to quit. That was the only time in my 55 years that quitting felt right.

In 2013, nothing has changed. Wall Street is richer than ever, and big analysts have more lives than wrinkled movie stars. They can make the same mistakes over and get richer for it. Move money into physical gold, silver, Treasury bills (despite their low returns) and hold physical cash in a safe dry place. Speculators believe the only game in town is blue chip stocks.

I’m serious…take a hike!

I have always WANTED to love the rugged type of hiking you see on commercials, but I don’t. The outdoors, heat, bugs, and no potty all just get in my way of enjoying a good hike. Stinks when you can’t have it all, doesn’t it?

I am not a North Face junkie who has every piece of hiking gear either. You know what I have? A backpack I got from a Prudential conference, a fancy Camelbak water bottle from Lincoln Benefit Life and a pair of old Asics that I don’t use in the gym anymore. That’s MY version of “hiking”. [audience laughs...]

When I was kid I used to walk all over the woods behind our house and I saw so many amazing things that I’ve gotten away from as an adult. I remember sitting very quietly and watching just how long a turtle takes to cross a creek – and man, does it take a LONG time. It made me appreciate later on when I found them crossing a road, as they walk from pond-to-pond without being eaten by some animal or hit by a car. Slow and steady can win the race, but stopping my car to move them to the other side of the road may improve their lifespan a bit too!

Seeing how birds flit from tree-to-tree or how dew drops look on leaves and flowers is indescribably beautiful. Hiking has a way of taking you away from all the busy-ness of life and calming your inner crazy. It’s a shame I’ve gotten away from it and am going to make a real effort this year to embrace this once wonderful pastime.

Find something you like to do outdoors – and take time to understand why you enjoy it. Make it meaningful and purposeful to your life. It might be the only way you can find truths in your life is to see something through the eyes of nature.

#BionicBlessings to All,
