I watched Twilight last year. The movie was fine, it was pretty good actually.

Somehow people keep complaining that “the movie is not as good as the book.” It’s been like that for generations now. It is impossible for a movie to be as good as a book, except when the book is really bad. Just look at the example of PS I Love You, or the Harry Potter movie series. There’re six of them now right? And pretty much almost whenever one came out, I got people saying to me that “its not as good as the book blah blah blah.” Geez. Just look at the length of the book and the movie. Way more expressions from characters, way more scenes…

Real life Robert Pattinson. Looking just like other normal dudes you see in school. Stop making a big deal out of him! He looks like freaking Susan Boyle in this pic!

Oh and Robert Pattinson – the Edward guy from Twilight. I’m straight so I can’t really tell if a guy is super hot or not, but I can tell for sure that this guy is NOT THAT MUCH. Somehow girls keep talking about him and that annoys the heck out of me, hahah. Guess I’m being jealous? No way, I know who I am. I guess people are manipulated by all the movie effects. I think he’s just another image of Superman who is more charming and mysterious haha. And he’s a vampire, so that’s a plus.

Anyway, I wanna check New Moon out. Good thing I don’t read books, so I won’t be complaining and will just relax and enjoy the show.

Everyone loves Amy Adams don’t they. She was great in Drop Dead Gorgeous and funny in Enchanted. Matthew Goode has been in loads of British TV dramas and was Ozymandias in Watchmen.

Now they are in a new movie, which promises to break out from all the romantic movie cliches you usually get in a film like this.

When their four-year anniversary passes without a marriage proposal, Anna (Adams) decides to take matters into her own hands. Investing in an Irish tradition that allows women to propose to men on February 29th, Anna decides to follow her boyfriend Jeremy (Adam Scott) to Dublin and get down on one knee herself.

But airplanes, weather and fate leave Anna stranded on the other side of Ireland, and she must enlist the help of handsome and surly Declan (Matthew Goode) to get her across the country. As Anna and Declan bicker across the Emerald Isle, they discover that the road to love can take you to very unexpected places.

My mistake. It does have all those romantic movie cliches you have come to expect from these kind of movies. Anna meets surly Declan. They argue, get on each others nerves, a bit of slapstick, they’ll probably get all their clothes wet or something and have to spend the night together in an uncomfortable position (like the back of a volkswagon!) They’ll argue some more, he won’t tell her something important, they get closer and fall for each other, then that important thing he didn’t say crops up and she runs away or tells him to get stuffed. She meets her intended but at the last minute Declan will turn up on the back of a tractor or something and reference something from earlier in the movie. The end.

Oh and there will be some crazy stereotypical Irish folk, Guinness, and a scene involving a cow or another animal with hilarious consequences.

I wrote that last two paragraphs without watching the trailer. Then I watched the trailer…sigh!

Off the top of my head I’m getting 27 Dresses, The Proposal, PS I Love You, The Ugly Truth, Pretty Woman, Notting Hill, How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days, Along Came Polly, The Holiday, Wedding Planner, Made of Honour, My Best Friend’s Wedding, The Wedding Date and so on and so forth….note to self: Stop watching so many romantic comedies. Did I miss any?

How can you be angry at someone you love… you’re just angry at yourself, than you’re angrier for getting angry but you would always want them to be happy no matter what. I know it doesn’t make sense but than again I never do lol and the day you start to understand what I’m saying is the day you need therapy or some intensive counselling.

My daughter has spent the last few days really, really sick and has barely left her bed.   A bad case of strep throat had her pretty wiped out but the antibiotics finally kicked in today and when I came home from work she was actually out of bed and sitting up watching a movie. 

The movie was P.S. I Love You, a movie which I saw quite awhile ago and loved but will warn you, it would probably be construed by most as a quintessential “chick flick”.  ***SPOILER ALERT***  I am about to totally blow the ending of this movie, so if you are going to watch it and don’t want the ending ruined STOP READING!  (And most definitely don’t watch the movie clips I have linked!)  Anyway, I walked into the house right at the end of the movie where Holly is about to have her good friend read what would be the last letter written to her by her (now dead) husband.  It’s a very emotional scene and has some of the most romantic verbage I have ever heard out of a man in my entire life.  My daughter and I both got very choked up and I was actually kind of surprised that that scene still made me weep even though I have seen it many times. In this case, I didn’t even watch the other parts of the movie.  It’s very powerful.  Watch clip here.

After the movie was over, my daughter and I were both sitting there with BIG TEARS running down both of our faces and we had to talk for a moment or two about why this particular scene got to us.  I said, “I have lived a lot of years and never heard words like that out of any man’s mouth.”  My daughter then said…”Me, either, but Mom, this is what Hollywood does to us.  They make movies like this that make us think this is what real life is like.  They make us think we want a guy like this, but the reality is that we don’t.”  I thought for a moment, and realized that she was probably right.

She continued on.  “The type of guy that would do something like this–no girl would ever be into–he would be overly and hopelessly romantic or way too much like a girl.  We want the ‘man’s man’.    It sucks that Hollywood does this to us, though, it’s really confusing.  When I watch this movie it makes me think I am missing out on something, but I know if I had a guy dripping with sap like this on a daily basis, it might get old really fast.”  I think my daughter is spot on.  Of course, that’s not to imply that women want a guy that is emotionally impotent, either…but that’s a different blog topic for a different day! 

I guess the reality is that women want to know that a guy thinks these type of thoughts  but doesn’t necessarily compromise his manliless in expressing it.  I think the absolute vulnerability, humility, and  ability to express deep feelings of love was what made me weep, but in the movie the man is already dead, so it’s effect is even more compelling.   This type of emotion is a beautiful thing, in the appropriate time and place.  There has to be a balance somewhere because  there is nothing worse than a man who appears to be overly needy or controlling by over-doing the whole “love” thing.  I said to my daughter (without knowing ahead of time I promise!) “This book HAD to have been written by a woman.”  It was…it was written by Cecilia Ahem and has the same name as the movie.  (P.S. I Love You)  See, I told you–no man would write a story like this.  It just wouldn’t happen. These are the type of stories that are conjured up in a woman’s mind.   We think we want a man to do these things…to feel these things… to be this person,  but only because it is not only improbable but may be impossible.   And as I said, if it came to be reality it might be nice at first, but taken too far, well, I think we’d all become like a heroine in another movie – like say “The Runaway Bride”…if you know what I mean.   I think as women we like a guy who can get his message across in more subtle, manly ways without crossing the line into creepyland.  At least that is what I think we want, but seriously, who really knows for sure.    Here’s a clip from the last scene of the movie, watch to the end…a perfect guy getting his point across with pretty much just a killer smile and a face that’s lit up like a Christmas tree.  No words necessary, but an absolutely perfect (Hollywood) moment.  Watch clip here.

Vandaag had ik m’n dagje vrij in de week en dus er me nog maar eens toe aangezet om een film te bekijken…
De filmposter hing vorig jaar in een klaslokaal en had altijd mijn aandacht getrokken, en dat is meestal één van de redenen waarom ik kies voor een dvd/boek waarvan ik nog niks weet…

Het werd een romantische film met Hillary Swank en Gerard Butler in de hoofdrol.

Wanneer Gerry overlijdt schrijft hij Holly een jaar lang iedere maand een brief met een opdracht. De film volgt het verhaal van een jonge vrouw die te vroeg weduwe wordt en door het verwerkingsproces heen gaat, haar zelf af en toe even verliest en opnieuw opzoek probeert te gaan naar een nieuwe liefde.

Een knappe film die je zeker eens moet bekijken met je liefje naast je…
Zelfs bij mij sloeg hij aan, en ik heb het normaal al niet voor romantische films…

I don’t know exactly why Jon feels so close, right now, but I know he was with us when we celebrated our daughter’s third birthday yesterday.

I got home and all I could think about was him. I wish I could see his face when Weslee blew out her candles.

I’m looking forward to things in the coming months. I’m no longer afraid of the future. But he still has so much of my heart.

I know that people want me to stop talking about him so much, and maybe they think I should stop missing him so much, now that I’ve done this for over a year. But Jon was so much more than that to me. And I have no idea when I’ll finally stop dreaming of the parallel universe, where we still have the future we both wanted.

I hope someone can give it to me as my early birthday gift ). I could read it more than once! But seriously, you should read The Caged Virgin it’s really open up my mind about muslim women in western country.  Happy Reading!!

Influence by Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen

Kan inte hjälpa att jag har en dragning till sådana här filmer och att se en film som denna när man dessutom känner sig lite deprimerad får en att känna sig ännu mer förvirrad vad gäller känslorna. Man vet inte om man är glad eller ledsen. Filmen är både rolig och mysig med både glädje och sorg. Ungefär så som jag känner mig varje dag, ena stunden glad och lycklig för att i nästa stund känna mig helt utpumpad och ledsen. Vet inte varför, jag har det ju så bra med min goa familj som betyder allt för mig! Men den där lilla lilla känslan av någonting som gör att jag känner mig liten och ensam finns där inne…..vill så gärna att den försvinner, men vet inte hur jag ska göra för att den ska göra det….

PS I love you är lika underbar som filmen Notebook så detta är alltså en film som jag inte har sett för sista gången!

Holly och Gerry är ett ungt par som varit gifta i 9 år och fortfarande älskar varandra innerligt. När så Gerry dör av en sjukdom står Holly ensam kvar utan att veta hur hon någonsin ska kunna gå vidare. Så börjar brev dyka upp till henne, brev som Gerry skrev innan han dog och som är menade ska hjälpa henne att börja leva igen.

Inte nog med att själva filmen var bra, musiken var underbar. Bla låten Galway girl, men då har jag en liten förkärlek till Irländsk musik (och lite country) Väljer att visa det här klippet då den utstrålar glädje och kärlek, jag tror det är så att egentligen är det Steve Earle som sjunger låten men i filmen och i det här klippet är det Gerard Butler som har huvudrollen i filmen som sjunger (klicka två ggr på länken)

Synopsis:

This is a well written, touching book. To lose your u at a young age must be horrendous, and that is how Ahern writes it. It is so sad, very heartbreaking. Ahern looks at what losing your spouse does to you, how relationships change, who are your real friends, and how you can keep going. I loved the idea of notes, and everything Gerry set up for her to help her. What a lovely thing to do. It was so beautiful that he was there supporting her through these few lines a few.Ahern’s writing is gripping and draws you into the story. I felt the emotions Holly was feeling, and could have cried along with her.

I don’t think I have a favourite character in this book. Everyone was well written and I liked how they developed over the year. It was interesting to see how Gerry’s death affected everyone. It was good to see how Ahern remembered the other characters and incorporated their grief in the book too.

It is important to note that not all the book is sad, and there are moments of joy, fun and laughter. Ahern looks at a range of emotions and the rollercoaster of grief.

I really enjoyed this book. It is chick-lit, but it explores a hard issue. It did not take long to read this book – it was just a good novel.

I want to share a movie. the title is PS I Love You. for me, this movie means a lot. and i found 3 similar things between the couple in that movie with me and my boyfriend. This movie is starring by Gerard Butler and Hillary Swank. They are married couple but unfortunately, Gerry (Gerard Butler) died because of brain tumor and Holly (Hillary Swank) just felt like a lonely widow in Gotham City. She got nowhere to go and really had no idea what’s she’s living for after Gerry’s death. but with the letters and the plan which Gerry had prepared for her before he died, Holly finally can move on again with her life.

And here are the similar things i found between the couple in that movie and us :

I never get bored of watching this movie. every time i fall in and out of love, doubts, complicated, happy i just watch this movie. and for you, readers just watch it then maybe you can feel the same way too with me or maybe more than me. and you can find something from this movie.

T. and I have just been to the cinema. Watched The Ugly Truth. Gerard Butler is so cute. I loved him in PS. I Love You and I loved him in The Ugly Truth. The film was funny. Really great! Katherine Heigl is gorgeous and such a talented actress. The plot idea was unique, even though the storyline was very rom-com and predictable (but isn’t the cliché ending the reason we watch rom-coms?!?!). I definitely recommend watching it!!! I just wish they hadn’t started talking pizza halfway through the film…

After the credits, T. was hungry and so was I. But while he could safely indulge in a couple of Gregg’s pasties, I had to look around for healthier options. A wholegrain bagel? Mmmm… A salad? A bit less ‘mmmm’ but still okay. In the end, I decided to go for Bagel Nash’s frozen yogurt, which turns out to be one of the world’s most tasty treasures.

I can feel the sugar withdrawals kick in… All I can think about right now is pizza, crisps and Randoms… But I’m gonna be strong! A healthy dinner, grapes for dessert and an evening Wii workout should be enough to keep me away from the takeaway menus on my fridge. If it doesn’t, I’ll ask T. to tie me to my bed until I fall asleep: healthy, proud and sugar-free!
