WORKABOUT PRO von Psion Teklogix

MAKRO IDENT – Die Workabout-PRO Serie basiert auf einer Modul-Plattform und lässt sich mit einer Vielzahl von Hardware-Modulen erweitern – von Ausweislesern und Fingerabdruck-Scannern bis zu WAN-Komponenten, 1D-Barcode Laserscannern, 2D-Code Imagern und Bluetooth-Druckern. Je nach Anforderung sind die einzelnen Komponenten auszuwählen oder auszutauschen, wenn sich die Anforderungen ändern.

Selbst nach der Implementierung kann der Anwender weiterhin aus einem breiten Spektrum an Hardware-Modulen und Softwareanwendungen wählen und diese nachträglich integrieren. Der WORKABOUT PRO passt sich immer an die jeweiligen Anforderungen an.

Der WORKABOUT PRO bietet zahlreiche Vorteile, angefangen beim VGA-Display, auf dem viele Details z.B. auf Karten und Schaltplänen erkennbar sind, und einer optimierten Lesbarkeit bei schwacher Beleuchtung und direkter Sonneneinstrahlung. Die ergonomische Tastatur ist für die einhändige Nutzung konzipiert und realisiert eine klare Befehlsstruktur. Seine Vorzüge stecken aber auch in nichtmessbaren Features, wie etwa das angenehme Handling, die optimale Balance und eine Quasi-Maßschneiderung für Ihre Hände.

In Tests widerstand der WORKABOUT PRO den mehrfachen Aufprall auf Beton aus 1,8 Meter Höhe unbeschadet. Die Stoßbelastungen und Vibrationen, denen er bei der Montage auf einem LKW oder Gabelstapler ausgesetzt ist, können ihm ebenfalls nichts anhaben.

Die Schutzart IP65 schützt das Gerät vor Staub und Spritzwasser aus allen Richtungen.  Der Hersteller Psion Teklogix testet die eigenen Entwicklungen sowohl in der firmeneigenen Testeinrichtung wie auch in unabhängigen Testlabors. An Qualität wird nicht gespart. Deshalb ist der WORKABOUT PRO auch so zuverlässig und robust.

The World Wide Web lexicon is getting healthy day by day. If the news of induction of 46 million new websites in the first quarter of 2009 is not amusing you then let me introduce you with some new lingoes which are going to be hot cakes in this millennium.

After the virtual Big Bang in the previous millennium, the use of internet and the peripherals related to it are really heading towards the next level. During this process, new terms like Cloud Computing and Saas (Software as a Service) are getting popular. But to embrace these next generation services (Experts are saying they are going to be key business tools of the future) we need supporting devices. The most talked about device is the “Netbook” concept that describes the future of computing based upon WWW.

The term Netbook was coined and patented in some regions by Psion Teklogix which uses the term in its sub-notebook series (Psion Netbook Pro etc.). As the idea of Cloud Computing is knocking at the door, which means firms can buy IT services as per their need and can discontinue whenever they like. Eventually businesses will witness more profit through cost saving in its IT usage. Because of this, world’s leading Netbook producers are banking heavily upon this upcoming opportunity to boost their sales margin. But why will people buy it? Well, there are several reasons. It’s small, lightweight, workhorse and most prominently very cheap (Even the high end models will come within USD500). After Psion discontinued their Netbook series, other players sniff the opportunity and started producing small sub-notebooks that are equivalent to the Psion Netbooks. Leading the game is Asus which unveiled the Asus Eee PC with Linux. Later other players like Dell, HP and recently Lenovo and Samsung also launched their Netbooks. Now they are also available in Windows and can support other softwares like Mac OS X as well.

Keeping in mind the present market scenario, no laptop manufacturers other than Asus are introducing new Netbooks in such a spree. After launching the Eee PC 700, they have already launched 900,901, 90X and 1000series (H, HD, HE, HA). Interestingly all of them have been launched in 2008. In 2009 Asus is going to unveil the T91 and the T101H models which will feature a multi touch track pad and a convertible touch screen. They are also in talks with Microsoft to incorporate Windows 7 in their future Eee series.

PsionTeklogix Neo

This is a nice looking unit that will have a good niche in the Retail and light rugged market.  I personally think its competitors are the Motorola MC3090 and the Intermec CK3, which should give a good run in the marketplace provided that the Channel and Psion market it properly.  Psion is quick to start right out of the gate with marketing Neo along with the new version of PTXConnect.  We’ll be doing a video on this one soon so keep posted….
