We had been planning to start renting out our beautiful ‘townhouse style’ villa situated beach-side near Puerto Banus and the fabulous promenade of Nueva Alcantara for some time. Historically we have only let friends and family use the villa, but mounting costs for the gardener, community fees, taxes, utility bills etc. made us think it was only sensible to let it out to help offset some of these costs.

An approach from an agent to let to some clients in August set the ball rolling and another request from our eldest daughter’s Head of Music at her school Bramcote, www.bramcoteschool.com meant it was ‘let’ for most of August 2009. The day after our 12 year old daughter finished school on the 3rd of July we were flying ‘Jet 2′ to Malaga. As always we had booked a hire car through carjet.com; ten minutes to do the paperwork, get the keys and we were heading West to Marbella & our house near Puerto Banus. Taking the excellent ‘peaje’ (toll road) when you have the choice near Fuengirola is our preferred option; the journey door to door takes about 35/40 minutes. We can unload the cases very close to the house and in no time at all we were showered and changed and heading out for dinner. In all honesty with a 12-year-old and a 3-year-old things never go that smoothly – confiscating the Sky card from one child and explaining to the other she couldn’t take every ‘dolly’ with her to ‘Rafa’s Restaurante’ – a five minute walk away.

Some good friends from Dublin introduced us to Rafa’s a few years ago, the food is extremely good quality, the portions very generous and the prices are ridiculously cheap! – these factors combined with attentive , friendly service are no doubt the reason why the restaurant is ever popular with locals and visitors alike. People often have the impression that the Marbella/Puerto Banus area of the Costa Del Sol is only for the very well healed, but the truth is that there are numerous restaurants where you can get excellent value for money as well as those where a second mortgage may seem like the only option to pay the bill! 

The benefit of having a house, rather than staying in a hotel is the ability to significantly reduce the cost of a holiday, whilst having far more space and luxury than a hotel can offer. We have an excellent, well equiped kitchen with every modern convenience so the option to have nights in is not only inviting but cost effective. Our BBQ in the private garden is used regularly and there is something very satisfying about drinking good wine at €4 per bottle, rather than paying €20 for the same bottle in some restaurants! The children tell us that the service is very good too! In the daytime we are privileged to be very close to the beach and the choice of 5 swimming pools on the small complex of ‘townhouse style’ villas ensures that there is always plenty of space to ’stay at home’. The pools are all beautifully maintained by the dedicated staff using quality chemicals which you can find on the Spa Master web site www.spamaster.co.uk 

We were fortunate enough to stay until the end of July and the extra time was also useful to get a few jobs done in and around the house, like having a state-of-the-art touch-screen digital wall safe installed. We have been considering starting to let the property to other families for holidays to help pay for the gardener, community fees etc. – maybe a little left over for the school fees if were lucky! All in all a fabulous holiday with great weather – something we understand was missing in the UK!

Puerto Banus is located approximately 60 km from Malaga airport and we recommend a visit whether you just want to look or stay there.

On Friday I and my housemates went to Puerto Banus, its kinda like the Party Capital of Malaga, with loads of students and people out to have a good time. Its packed full of Clubs, Bars and street stands selling drinks and stuff, and It was rammed  full of people. There was no room to move about as everyone was trying to get about from one place to another, there was random people trying to sell you stuff and others just waiting around for a club to allow more people in! The Clubs were amazing to! Bigger and better in every compared to any where i´ve been before, and that includes London!

We ended up in a massive club that holds 5000 people called Dreamers. It was 25 euros to get in, but Vasco (my housemate) some way managed to get wristbands off some randoms leaving the club, so we got in for free! Sorted lol. It was a great night, a bit expensive though but it was worth it. Theres just so much to do here Im not sure if im going to be able to experiance it all in 1 year! lol.

Towards the end of the night it was mental, we ended up climbing up onto a massive metal Rhino and taking pictures!

Puerto Banus is well known for attracting the rich and famouse, and I was amazed at how many Farraris, Lamborghinis, Mazzeratis, and supercars I saw, i´m pretty sure i spotted a Koenigsegg CCX! and thats one expensive car!

The coast line was littered with sailing boats, loads of them, and huge catamarans with people having parties on board!

I remeber me and my friends at uni used to watch a seriese called Entourage on our laptops, Well if this is anything to go by, count me in!

So yeah as the night went on we came back to baking hot Marbella and took a stroll up the road from our apartment to the local bakery, it opens really early, somthing like 3am to get all the food ready for the day. Hot buns and french bread with coffee. Top breakfast, and the best thing is its dirt cheap! 50c (50p) for a brench baguette with ham and cheese! sorted!

So that was Friday. Puerto Banus was amazing, and I would definatly go again, not to soon though, I still remeber the advice i was given when i first got here “Dont loose the key to your golden cage” in other words, dont get caught up in all the fancy lights and surroundings, and remeber what im actually here for. But over all I´ve got 3 words to sum it all up…. Expensive, Entertaining and Boundless!

For spring break I went with my friends to Marbella, Spain.  Marbella is located in the Spanish region of Andalucia on the Costa del Sol.  We flew Click Air to Marbella and the flight was only an hour and thirty mintues.  When we  arrived in Malaga because that is where the closest airport is to Marbella is was about a fourty-five mintue cab ride to our hotel.  We stayed at a hotel called Rincon Andaluz in Puerto Banus-Marbella.  The hotel was very nice and very family oriented.  The good thing about this hotel was that is it walking distance to Port Banus, has many activities during the day, and the best buffet for dinner.  We stayed at this hotel for five nights and than moved to the Marriott Playa Andaluza.  This hotel was all villas and the plus was it was right on the beach.  The downside about staying at this hotel was that it is a 25 minute cab ride to the Port and 15 minute cab ride to Old Marbella.  Old Marbella has small traditional shops, cafes, galleries, and very good restaurants.  We ate at some very good restaurants in which I would highly recommend: in the Port Banus area we ate at an American restaurant called Jacks, Picasso is an italian restaurant that was very good as well, and this amazing fish restaurant called Gold’s. The port also has very good shopping and is very nice to walk around during the day.  At night during this time of year it was very chilly at night at the Port but still nice to have dinner at.  Other restaurants that were good are Trader Vics, La Meridiana, and Da Brunos.  Marbella, Spain was one of the most amazing places I have ever been. We got really lucky and had amazing weather unlike Barcelona right now.

Como anécdota quedará la anulación de la primera jornada por la caída de una parte de la grada causada por el mal tiempo que hizo el jueves… viento, lluvia e incluso nieve y granizo, algo atípico en la zona.

Marbella is known to be the ritzy part of Spain where the rich and the famous go for vacations. This weekend I was treated by my wonderful mother to Puerto Banus for a relaxing vacation and some bonding time with her since I have not seen her in 3 months. The whole stereotype about this fancy shamncy place is 100% true because I have never seen anything like this extremely sheik place. Everyone comes on their 65-foot yachts and Ferrari’s and stroll through the nice shops and sit by the most expensive restaurants. My mom compared this vacation spot to South of France with the way of life there.

It was very relaxing to sit by the beach all day and get some sun while catching up with my mother. I would not recommend this place to anyone going on travels with their friends because I would not have afforded this trip without my mother’s wallet. We did take some really cool side trips to Tangier, Morocco and Granada, Spain. These were really interesting day trips and very easy and cheap to get too. I definitely recommend Morocco because it was the most different place I have visited here in Europe. There is not much to actually see but just the architecture and their ways of living is a different experience within itself. Once you travel most of Europe, everything starts to look the same as in the architecture and their ways of living. To see a different city like Morocco, which is actually in Africa and a very poor country, was touching. I never have seen such hungry animals and beggars in my life.

TIPS:

-do not go to Puerto Banus if you are on a budget. Even if you try to avoid the high cost of everything, you can not.

-Do not go to Morocco without men or even a tour guide, it is a little scary there.

-La Alhambra is the most visited tour site in Spain, and I highly recommend going there if you can (its in Granada)

Højdepunktet i 2009 i Marbella bliver den nye PGOU, den første nye byudviklingsplan i 20 år, der frorventes at blive endeligt godkendt i dette forår.
Det er håbet, at den nye byplan vil hjælpe byen videre ved at tillade nye byggeri selvom det nuværende økonomiske klima i byen har brug for mere end en PGOU for at få den tilbage på fødderne.

Et andet hovedmål for dette år er at hjælpe turistindustrien ved at få renset Marbellas image rundt om i verden. Andre projekter her i starten af 2009 i Marbella omfatter en udvidelse af Costa del Sol hospital, arbejde på havnen for at gøre det egnet til krydstogtskibe og kystlinjetoget for at bringe den vestlige del af Costa del Sol tættere på Madrid via AVE.

La marca, que se instala en Bilbao cerca de tiendas como Gucci o Donna Karan, abrió sus puertas en la capital vizcaína tras dos días de inauguración. La noche también estuvo reservada para unos pocos privilegiados, que pudieron disfrutar de un cocktail diseñado por Fernando Canales y de un espectáculo de magia que dejó a todos boquiabiertos.

El sábado por fin se abrieron las puertas de la tienda a todo el mundo (que se pueda permitir esos caprichos, claro).

Los eventos fueron diseñados respetando escrupulosamente la exclusividad y el glamour de la marca y respiraron su característico aire francés. Desde la decoración de la tienda hasta las azafatas y aparcacoches tuvieron que cumplir unas estrictas normas.

Lujo y exclusividad fueron las palabras que rodearon la inauguración y, sin duda, acompañan a la marca allá donde vaya. Hasta ahora tan sólo Madrid, Barcelona, Puerto Banús y Valencia contaban con un establecimiento de esta marca en el estado.

The decadent resort of Puerto Banus, Marbella on the Costa del Sol has been Spain´s wildest party town since the swinging sixties, when the likes of Sean Connery and Omar Sharif first graced its shores. Now better known for its hot nightclubs and saucy Stag and Hen Parties, Puerto Banus has evolved into a fast-moving, glitzy resort where anything goes.

Attracting famous and infamous visitors from all over the world, Puerto Banus  became  a magnet in the late 80´s for  some of the UK´s most famous faces from the world of sport, acting and television. The capers of the Costa criminals also hit the headlines worldwide, but far having a negative effect on tourism  in Marbella and Puerto Banus, the heady mix of money, glamour and a hint of danger only served to increase the popularity of this famous resort.   The 90´s bought more tourists to Marbella, and thousands more visitors invested in holiday homes on the Costa del Sol.

As a regular visitor to Puerto Banus, Marbella, I would probably describe the resort as more  shabby chic than chic nowadays, but it still has a sharp edge that you don´t find anywhere else. One thing´s for sure – if you decide to hold your Stag or Hen extravaganza in Puerto Banus, you will be guaranteed one hell of a night .

Las nuevas musas de la marca son Peaches Geldof y Daisy Lowe, dos hijas de, problemáticas, 19 años y miembros honoríficos de la nueva socialité cool y juerguista londinense. Ambas son imagen de la colección “Witches”, lo cual no sé si es un honor o un insulto. Pero la noticia de verdad es que Agent Provocateur abre tienda en Puerto Banús a mediados de octubre. Y aunque te pille lejos y sea caro, siempre es motivo de alegría saber que en tu país por fin se vende una lencería tan maravillosa.

New Agent Provocateur’s muses are rebellious and rich teenagers Peaches Geldof and Daisy Lowe, 19 years old, honorific members of new cool and raver London socialité. Both star the campaing called “Witches” and I seriously doubt if that is a compliment or an insult. But the real good news is that Agent Provocateur is opening first store in Spain, which probably you don’t care if you don’t live here, but we Spaniards do, because their lingerie is absolutely stunning.
