Via Wired: 10 Green Concept Cars That Are Waaaay Out There Here’s my favorite – and the greenest of the green. As WIred notes, “None of the technology Spanish designer Arturo Peralta Nogueras has planned for his vehicle exists yet, but if you’re gonna dream, dream big. “Senses” runs on algae and features an exterior made of “solid hologram technology,” whatever that is.”

Of course, we don’t have much algae in Albuquerque

As a marketer, I also wonder how they’ll market some of these – if they ever make it past the concept stage. That’s always the challenge in product development – taking a great concept and turning into a great product. Things like the lack of algae, for example.

By Natalie Carter, Marketing Manager

I love marketing; thanks to Web technology, we can really focus on “niches.” The challenge, of course, is treating those niches as people, not cold target numbers or advertising demographics. That’s why I spend time talking to our customers- in the grocery store, on the phone, over email and in this blog.

For example, we can’t lump all women into a single category, or all “car guys” into one big group. People are interested in Pulstar for different reasons – fuel economy, performance, reduced green house gases. And, as the marketing manager for Enerpulse, I can’t assume that the customer that wants performance isn’t as equally interested in saving the planet.

So, what do you think? What interests you about Pulstar? What would you find useful on our web site? Looking forward to hearing your ideas and thoughts…

We see (and hear) this question from potential customers.

We are, in fact, talking to several auto manufacturers. As you can imagine it take several years to get a new product into full automaker production due to their testing requirements and long-range supply commitments. But, we expect to have Pulstar on several 2011 model year cars…”Pulstar inside!” to borrow a slogan. In the meantime, we stand by our product claims with a four-point guarantee.

We sell Pulstar pulse plugs that compete with spark plugs.

Pulstar isn’t a spark plug, but it replaces spark plugs. Confusing? Well, that’s the challenge we have in selling our product to you.

Some people wonder about our test results; does Pulstar really work; why our price is higher than most spark plugs. All of which is perfectly understandable.

The auto parts aftermarket is full of marketing claims about fuel economy, performance and reduced emissions – most of them without test data or logical science. After all, the term “snake oil” is used frequently in this market for a reason.

So, here’s what I’m personally doing about that.

1. I’m blogging. This is a challenge since the whole “social media” trend is new to me. But, if I’m going to talk, I’ve got be willing to listen as well.

2. I’m expanding our in-house call center so we can directly deal with more customers for both sales and technical support.

3. I’m making sure everyone, from the receptionist to production, knows what they need to know about the the details of our product and markets to better serve our customer.

4. I don’t hide behind voice mail or assistants. If you have a question, you can contact me directly at dparker at enerpulse.com.

And, we’re revising our web site to include more and better information to help you understand why pulse plugs aren’t just another spark plug – and why they are worth the price.

So, leave a comment below or send me an email if you have suggestions or questions.

Albuquerque is one of the “Greenest” cities in the U.S., and it’s not because of our trees (although we’ve got a suprising number of them, particularly along the Bosque, shown at left.) However, we are still in the high, New Mexico desert.

We’re also a city full of people who care about the environment and spend a lot of time outdoors. My husband, Chris, and I road bike in and around the city on a regular basis, so you could say my first choice of transportation is leg power and wheels. No engine required. But, we also need a car since we do live in a sprawling city. That’s one reason I joined Enerpulse – the “green” possibilities. A little (and invisible) thing like plugs in your engine can make a big difference.

I can almost hear you saying “Well, sure, Natalie would say that, she’s the marketing manager!” And, yes, my job is to “pitch” Enerpulse, but I couldn’t do that well if I didn’t believe in the company. Chris and I have Pulstars in our 1991 Honda Civic, which means that we’re reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over 2300 lbs and saving over $450 at the pump. Which comes in really handy when we’re driving to one of our favorite nordic ski areas in New Mexico. (And yes, I appreciate the irony in that last sentence.)

Want to calculate your fuel savings and carbon emission reduction? Here’s our calculator.

Still think I’m simply pitching empty marketing words? Leave a comment below or call us. We may not be perfect, but we do our best to stand behind our claims.

(Above image from our local tourism site, itsatrip. Great place to start to learn about Albuquerque if you’re thinking of visiting or moving here. But, be prepared, music automatically plays when the site comes up.)

By Dan Parker, CEO

Here at Enerpulse, we’re in full start-up mode, with new technology, a growing customer base, and vast opportunities. However, I’ve been around long enough to know that if our people aren’t involved and informed, the happy customers that fuel our growth will be few and far between.

We hold twice-weekly staff meetings to talk about our successes and problems. Everyone in the company hears what in other companies are often deep, dark executive secrets. And I mean everyone – Rosie in shipping; Tobi from sales; Nathan from product testing; Natalie, our marketing manager…and everyone else who isn’t tied up with a crucial customer matter. I ask the “question of the week” taken from our “Knowledge” – 100 questions about Pulstar, which pays $20 for the correct answer. Our CFO pulls the bill out of his pocket right then and there. We all talk about how to solve problems – and we get astonishing results in a very short time.

We reward above-and-beyond effort, right now. Nobody has to wait for their annual review. We do our best to keep everyone informed so they can do what’s best for us and our customers, without having to constantly ask for direction or permission.
