For those of you who think this is derivative, here is the masterpiece in its original form. For those of you who don’t like derivation, I direct you to the below observation regarding the debt owed to Aristotle by Da Vinci, quoted this afternoon by our very own Spencer Dennis:

There seems to be in Leonardo no trace of the popular contemporary Pythagoreanism or Platonism. If we examine Leonardo’s conception of mathematics as depicted in his drawings…we find that it differs markedly from the static and very geometrical notion of Dürer. It is movement, not geometrical relations, that Leonardo is trying to capture.
