The PeachPost catches up with local Atlanta area teen,  Madison Kilpatrick,  who pays it forward on her birthday.  She’s a very sweet young lady who gives us a great example of giving during this holiday season.

P: I hear that you have special plans for your birthday.  Tell us what you are doing.

MK: My special plan for my birthday is my using my birthday party as a way to help the less fortunate. Every guest invited to my birthday party is asked to bring a toy which will be donated to Toys for Tots instead of bringing a birthday gift. Its my 14th birthday and I figured I should do something different and since my birthday is around Christmas, there really wasn’t any better way to spread the holiday cheer.

P: How would you encourage your peers to give back during this holiday season?

MK: Me and my friends are very driven. Most of us are filling out Magnet (School) applications in hopes to increase our chances of getting into college. If you tell one of them that community service looks good on your college application, they’ll do it! A lot of them have done community service just for their application, and then they continued because they just enjoyed it.

P: What is the number one thing that you plan to do during holiday break?

MK: During holiday break, its really all about the family. Its when everyone gets along even for that short period of time, they gather together, and everyone is just so much happier. Its actually my favorite time of the year.

P: What is your favorite radio station?

MK: My favorite radio station is probably a tie between Star94 and Q100. They play the same general type of music, so I like both of them equally.

P: Where is your favorite place to shop?

MK: My favorite place to shop, hands down, would be American Eagle. They have the best clothes there!

P: If you could have one wish for your birthday, what would it be?

MK:  Honestly, if I could have one wish for my birthday I wish for the texting. I still don’t have it and I want it so bad! But if my mom doesn’t get it for me, I’m sure there is a reason.

Let’s Talk About Sex, Baby

About two weeks ago I was asked to be on the Bert Show. As many of you know I am a friend of the Show. I take care of Jenn Hobby’s makeup for her E Buzz, I do Jenn, Jessica Dauler and Stacey Weiss’ eyebrows and makeup whenever they need me.

As you can imagine, when you spend time in people’s personal space lots of personal conversation takes place. Well, every now and again I would share with Jenn about some of the conversations I was having with my 14 year old daughter about sex and about the things she was asking me. We both were dumbfounded at the way she was able to talk to me. Neither one of us had the kind of relationship where we could ask ANYTHING…and I mean anything with our mothers. After a few weeks of sharing Jenn handed me a tape recorder and said, “ I shared with Bert about you and your daughter’s conversations and we think it will make a good segment. Can you record a conversation?”

I asked my daughter if she was willing. At first she was “OH MOM!” and then she agreed.

We spent about 20 minutes on the recorder. The first question- THE FIRST was about female orgasm. “So let me get this straight, girls can have LOTS of orgasms and guys can have only one? That’s not fair!” It goes on from there.

I handed the recorder over to Jenn and a date was set for me to be on the show. I was incredibly concerned about revealing my name because I wasn’t sure I wanted the world to know my daughter knows about all this mature stuff. Was I comfortable knowing that other kids her age would find out she knew as much as she did about sex?  This child of mine looked me in the eye and said,” MOM! I am fine. I don’t care”. This girl has the best self-esteem.

I believe that it is IMPERATIVE that you talk to your kids about sex. If they are not coming to you, they are going to their friends and worse than that, the internet. What if the first exposure to sex your kid had was to internet porn? Imagine the damage. I promised myself I would educate my kids and be as open as possible. The “nuts and bolts” conversation is not enough. There is too much misinformation and you put your children at risk if they are not informed.

This is always a fun event and there are TONS of things for kids to do.  Saturday night I’m an emcee for a Bat Mitzvah (totally not kidding) inside the store Jeffrey (long story but I will take pictures).  Sunday check out Acoustic Sunset in the Smyrna Market Village with Dave FM.

Thursday night was a riot over at Steel Restaurant!  I was asked to be a celebrity (whatever) bartender at an event to benefit Keep Georgia Safe.  I am the worst bartender ever but we all had a blast for a great cause.  Some of the celebs in the house were Suchita from Fox 5’s Good Day Atlanta, Brian Finneran from the Atlanta Falcons, Miss Sophia & Elle from V103 and Jenn Hobby from Q100.  Loved it!!

On the radio this morning a lady called in to confess what was basically a crime that she committed while at work. She worked in her company HR department and was responsible for processing new hire paperwork. A new employee was hired and his paperwork processed but he later decided not to accept the job. 14 days later a check for this man appeared on this woman’s desk. She was having financial trouble so decided to cash the check. 14 more days passed and another check showed up. She cashed that one too. She decided to have that check continually direct deposited in her account… for 2 years.

Davidism #18- Desperate times don’t call for desperate measures. Sometimes those desperate measures create greater desperate measures. Now this lady is potentially facing criminal charges when the IRS finds out, her employer finds out, or when the man that she defrauds finds out.

Berts Big Adventure Send off party from Posh Tot Events

Posh Tot Events was honored last week to be a part of the Bert’s Big Adventure send off party. This amazing program developed by Bert Weiss and his wife Stacey Weiss from Atlanta’s Q100’s The Bert Show is a special trip designed to provide families a magical weekend at Walt Disney World. These families have children, aged 5 to 12, who are experiencing a chronic or terminal illness.

We worked with Bert’s Big Adventure to create a Red Carpet Send off Party for the children and their familes on the day of their departure to Disney World. It was a special day that was just a small prequel to what they were about to experience on their trip to the happiest place on earth. From a dress up booth with princess gowns and tiaras, pirate hats and swords and face painting, to a huge inflatable crawl, a photo booth , arts and craftts and a dozen Disney Characters roaming the room, there was never a dull moment on Thursday morning. The families began to arrive at 6:00 am and despite the hour, there was not a tired eye in site. The moms were treated to some special pampering all their own with blow outs, makeup and chair massages.  All of the families were interviewed on air as the show was broadcasting live from the event. At the conclusion of the day, some beautiful monogrammed bags were presented to the families that were stocked with all the supplies they would need while traveling. It was a truly magical send off.

Last night Elizabeth and I went to the swanky new W in Buckhead for their opening soiree.  We are going to post video later (if Elizabeth can recover from her hangover) and some of it is HILARIOUS.  The first “star” we talked to was Sophia Bush. 

She’s on a show called One Tree Hill so I asked her if she liked the U2 song called One Tree Hill. Silence.  Am I that old?  We also ran into Ed Roland from Collective Soul with Jeff Dauler from Q100.  I’ll admit, I interviewed him with a cocktail but you have to make it interesting, right??  Jeff called me out on this the Bert Show today (Love it!  And it’s all true!) Also, hi to Jenn Hobby from the show who we hung out with in the press room. Next we ran into the Real Housewives of Atlanta who were getting the most attention.

I asked Sheree what her favorite word that started with W was (my question of the night).  I’m pretty sure she said “wonderful”…Boring. I know.  Next we saw Kim who is much prettier in person.  I asked her if she was dating Joe Francis, she said “no comment”.  This probably means yes.

Finally we ran into the glamourous Nene who was really, really sweet.  She was mum when I asked her if she is getting her own show on Bravo.

Apparently she and Kim have kissed and made up (do you care?).  There were other celebs (?) there who I didn’t talk to like Thom Filicia from Queer Eye (no big whoop) and some girl from that show “The City”.  I will admit, I have a lil’ bit of a headache today from the delicious cocktails at the party.  As soon as we get that video processed you’ll see it here—and it’ll be worth watching.  Gulp.  I’m nervous
