Carla Bruni-Sarkozy (born Carla Gilberta Bruni Tedeschi, 23 December 1967) is an Italian-born, naturalized French songwriter, singer, and former model. She is the wife of French President Nicolas Sarkozy whom she married on 2 February 2008.

For the past couple of months I’ve been in a serious musical lull. Per usual, I found solace in the sounds of 90s alternative rock (..hello again Ben Folds Five, Nirvana!), but I was definitely dissatisfied with my forays into new music appreciation. The Conor Oberst show last month really reminded me how exciting it is to fall in love with something unknown, and since then I’ve been in and out of indie record stores and the iTunes store like a fiend. Here are my favorite things I’ve found in the past few weeks:

Modest Mouse- No One’s First and You’re Next
Track: “History Sticks to Your Feet”
This EP was shipped to me without any info, so I assumed that it was music that had been produced post- We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank. I was wrong, as I am most of the time when I assume; the album is composed of b-sides and rarities from the sessions for the first two albums.
After a few days of the EP collecting dust on my desk, I decided to give it a listen as I drove to work. It was love. LOVE! Of the 8 songs, most are incredibly solid. It’s a non-skipper for me.
I’d recommend this EP for both the casual Modest Mouse fan as well as for the guy who never wants to hear “Float On” ever again.

I randomly stumbled upon this song while doing research for a writing project. I love the juxtaposition of the lyrics with the upbeat and happy sound. <3

500 Days of Summer (Official Soundtrack)
LOVE. LOVE. LOVE.
I love the random indie-ness of the soundtrack and how it all somehow works. This was my first real exposure to the Smiths (I knew Morrisey, but wasn’t a fan..), and I’m so grateful that I can experience teenage angst again through their music. Other stand outs: Carla Bruni’s “Quelqu’un m’a dit” (Give it a chance; just because she sings in French and is sleeping with the big guy over there doesn’t mean it’s not good!), Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s all-too-brief karaoke rendition of “Here Comes Your Man” (iTunes only), as well as the driving beat of “Us”, the Regina Spektor song used in all of the movie’s publicity spots.
For fans of: indietacular compilations. Any of the numerous bands featured.
(Although it may have been too obvious, I would’ve liked to see “Fade Into You” by Mazzy Star in the movie.)

Passei o dia me deliciando com o álbum “Quelqu’un M’a Dit”, de Carla Bruni. Tudo bem que esse disco não é nenhuma novidade, foi lançado em 2002, mas ele é uma delícia… não consigo parar de ouvir. 

A primeira dama da França é italiana, mas foi criada na França e na Suíça e tem uma musicalidade com uma levada bastante francesinha mesmo.

Vai aqui o clipe da música que dá título ao álbum de estréia da cantora.

Censure ?

J’ai été prévenu par un commentaire que la vidéo que j’avais postée, avec un précédent billet sur le tacle appuyé de Lio et Manoeuvre sur Carla Bruni-Sarkozy lors de la Nouvelle Star de lundi, avait été supprimée.

Du coup, je m’interroge, m’interloque, me questionne, me renseigne et recherche un peu. Donc au départ, on trouvait sur Youtube l’intégralité du passage de Camelia et de sa cover de “Quelqu’un m’a dit”. Y compris les sorties vachardes de Lio et du Philman pour la miauleuse èlyséenne. Et là que diantre, plus rien ? Sans doute une histoire de droits de diffusion me dis-je alors, faussement naïf un instant, et M6 propriétaire des images a dû demander leur retrait.

Mais que nenni. Ou du moins un peu simple. Un rapide tour sur Youtube et Google vidéos m’en convainc. Il y a bien encore des traces de l’émission diponibles. Mais pas n’importe lesquelles. On peut cliquer sur le lecteur de gauche (capture ci-dessous) qui présente une version de 2 minutes, soit la durée de la chanson avec le son sur une image fixe. Pour l’autre, par contre, celle de 4 min 05 où sont incluses les saillies du jury, c’est nada, verbotten, ainsi que l’indique le charmant bandeau rose lors d’un clic sur cette vidéo.

Etonnant non ? Reste à savoir d’où vient la demande de retrait. M6 où on aurait le remerciement du ventre après la suppression de la pub sur le service public ? Amicale pression sur Youtube, directe ou indirecte, au moment où le web fait l’objet de discussions et enjeux politiques et où la filiale de Google négocie avec les majors, producteurs et TV (amis du pouvoir sarkozien non ?) des accords sur la diffusion de leurs productions ? Autres type d’action ? Autocensure ?

A moins qu’il n’y ait pas eu de demande mais une simple erreur de manipulation d’un employé qui sera vite réparée…

En tout cas, plus facile de tailler une simple vidéo qu’une émission dans sa continuité. Ca se verrait sans doute trop. Du coup la version intégrale est toujours dispo sur le site M6 Replay (http://www.m6replay.fr/#/emissions/nouvelle-star/12400146). Pour ne pas vous taper toute l’émision, allez direct à la candidate N. 14 et c’est à partir de 1h58′30”…

Et puis ce qui est effacé d’un côté peut toujours revenir d’un autre (une vidéo ça s’importe, se stocke et se rediffuse)

Mais d’ici à ce qu’on voit des gens disparaitre des photos officielles bientôt ou effacés des vidéos du sarkoland…

Pas ma came la Nouvelle Star. Sinon ce post aurait eu les honneurs de mon blog “Rapido” Du coup me vlà avec un peu de décalage horaire sur le tacle du dernier numéro. Rendons à César : Mry lui ne l’avait pas raté (http://mry.blogs.com/). Donc Camelia candidate de l’émission reprend “Quelqu’un m’a dit”. Le jury appécie son interprétation. Tutto va bene quoi. Jusqu’à… Jusqu’à ce que Lio lui lance : “Cette chanson m’énervait par la chanteuse qui miaulait (…) je l’ai redécouverte”. Pas en reste, Philippe Manoeuvre reprend la balle au bond. “C’est quand même la 1re fois qu’on a parlé de Barbara à propos d’une chanson de Carla Bruni. Bravo ma fille…”. Mouvements en perspectives à la direction de M6 ?

arla Bruni-Sarkozy (born Carla Gilberta Bruni Tedeschi — I know, it’s a mouthful) has been on my radar lately. Carla (or C-diddy, as I affectionately refer to her) married French President Nicolas Sarkozy last February, which sent the world into a tailspin because of a teeny-tiny minor detail, which was that Sarkozy started dating C-diddy while he was still married to his former wife. In America, that kind of sh*t would never fly. I mean, we impeached a guy for a temporary blip involving a cigar and a blue dress, so… one can only imagine. But in France… eh. Just another day at the office.

But back to Carla, who just so happens to have quite the pedigree, what with having been named heiress to the Tedeschi family fortune (a lot) and having been born to a renowned concert pianist (her mother) as well as a classical musician and composer (her father). Coming from such a musically-minded family, it seemed fitting that once she’d had her run as a world-renowned supermodel and dated the likes of Mick Jagger and Eric Clapton (among others — I’m sure she’d rather forget The Donald, particularly The Hair), Carla turned to her own instrumental and vocal stylings and crafted her own music career.

C-diddy’s music career is now, understandably, eclipsed by her role as France’s First Lady. But it’s too bad, really. Quelqu’un m’a dit, her 2003 debut album, remains in heavy rotation on my iPod. And not just because the title song makes for a great accompaniment to a French grammatical lesson on the discours indirect. Her voice is raspy and rough around the edges, yet solidly emotive as it playfully jockeys with her acoustic guitar. I love this album. For me, she will always be Carla the folk-ish singer… who just so happened to marry that Sarkozy guy.

I checked up on Carla the other day, because I’ve been waiting for her to put out another French album (her second album was in English and contained poems by Auden, Dickinson, and Yeats, among others, put to music. Meh.). As it turns out, she put out a third, very français, album in July! Where the F have I been?! In dissertation hell? Oh yeah. Anyway, I’m excited. Also, I think it’s very admirable that First Lady Former Supermodel Bruni-Sarkozy ain’t just taking tea with the Queen Mum or attending Paris Fashion Week galas in designer dresses. She’s still channeling her creativity and doing solo projects unrelated to Sarko. And yes, of course, the fact that she’s Mme Sarkozy won’t hurt her CD sales, but… Quelqu’un m’a dit debuted at number one on the French Album Chart way back in 2003. That’s five years pre-Sarko. She had her sh*t together.

So you see, Carla wasn’t necessarily “trading up” by linking up with Sarkozy. Quite the contrary; I suppose one could argue that she is, in fact, slummin’ it with Sarko. (aww, poor, diminutive Sarko and his Napoleon complex…) Further proof: her family just sold their castle (what, your family doesn’t have a castle to sell?), the Castello di Castagneto (in Castegneto Po, Italy), for upwards of 10 million Euros. Apparently, the 40-room Castello wasn’t a quick sell.

“Yes, we have finally found a buyer,” said [Carla's mother] Marisa Bruni Tedeschi. “After all, we had finished with Castagneto Po, nobody went there any more,” she added.

The 40-room, 1,500-square-metre residence and grounds were bought by industrialist heir and father Alberto Bruni Tedeschi in 1952. The castle — repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt — is believed to first date from the year 1019. (Source)

So anyway… I’ll let you know what I think of her latest album once I get it. Who knows. Maybe I’ll take one listen and deem her a total sell-out loser. But I kind of doubt it. I mean, check out her boots!

De vrouw van de Franse president Nicolas Sarkozy, Carla Bruni, brengt in juli haar derde album uit. De 40-jarige Bruni schreef de meeste nummers van de CD nog voor haar ontmoeting met Sarkozy.
De liedjes hebben titels als “My Junk” en “Love Song”. Het album zelf heeft nog geen naam, meldde de woordvoerder van Bruni.
Het eerste album van Bruni uit 2002, “Quelqu’un M’a Dit”, ging in Frankrijk 1,2 miljoen keer over de toonbank. In het buitenland verkocht madame Sarkozy 800.000 exemplaren. Haar tweede album uit 2007 gooide geen hoge ogen.
Het voormalige topmodel stapte in februari met Sarkozy in het huwelijksbootje.
