Amanita design’s Robot adventure Machinarium has a release date: the 16:th of October. If you don’t know Amanita Design you’re missing out on a world of amusement, cuteness and interesting soundscapes. Also new to the Interwebs is a trailer with a bubble in it. Check it out below. You can get a grasp of what their style looks like from a learning game called Questionaut and pick up something while you’re at it as well.

Jogar Questionaut

Ich spiele generell eher wenig, deswegen passiert es nicht so häufig, daß ich Spiele im Netz suche oder gar richtig schöne finde. Questionaut ist also sozusagen ein Glückstreffer.

Questionaut ist gedacht für Schulkinder (schätzungsweise so um die 11 Jahre) und wurde von Amanita Design im Auftrag der BBC gemacht – was aber nicht heißen soll, daß man Erwachsener keinen Spaß daran hat.
Acht Levels wollen durchspielt werden, bestehend aus jeweils einem relativ leichten Point-and-Click- Rätsel und (englischen) Fragen aus den verschiedenen Themengebieten (nicht immer ganz leicht für jemanden der a) schon mehrere Jahre nicht zur Schule gegangen ist und b) nicht in Großbritannien zur Schule gegangen ist – Danke, Google!).

Die Illustration erinnert (zumindest mich) entfernt an Michael Sowa (eigentlich eher noch an jemand anderen, dessen Name mir aber entfallen ist) und ist durch und durch atmosphärisch und entzückend – würde man in ein Kinderbuch einsteigen, es könnt nicht schöner sein. Die Musik rundet den dezenten Surrealismus des Spiels zusätzlich ab, und so macht Questionaut von vorn bis hinten Freude – und das auch noch beim zweiten Mal, oder dritten, vierten, fünften.

Click on the hat to make the main character advance to the next stage

Click the book
Unplug the light
Click the man to start asking questions

Click the key and place it in the left most lock
Click the drawer to reveal a football
Click the key underneath where the man was sitting before he returns

Click the man after he starts drinking to start the questions

Click the icicle and place it into the flask so that it tips over
Rotate the valve 2 times to the left to start the gas
Click on the match box
Click on the match box to obtain a match
Use the match on the ‘striker’ of the match box to light it
Light the burner
Rotate the valve 1 time to the right to reduce the gas and stop the skater
Click the man to start the questions

Questionaut – An educational game made by a company called Amanita-design, have designed a game for BBC’s Bitesized revision series. Whilst the game is designed for schools, it is actually quite fun to play as an adult.

The online game is aimed a KS2 level in the England educational system. Students of ages 7 – 11 can test their english, mathematics and science knowledge through the game.

Over a series of 8 levels, an experimental puzzle has to be completed before one of the in game characters asks you a few questions. Successful answers count towards ‘fuel’ and five correct answers allow you to progress to the next level.

You might recognise the style of the artwork as it is very similar to the game Samorost, made by the same company.
