The controversial documentary takes a look at the superstar rapper’s personal and professional life. All lawsuits and Sundance praises aside, what is most impressive about this release is that it is completely independent and that the marketing was 99% viral. This feat should serve as inspiration to independent production companies and record labels alike – it is possible to release compelling content that will find success in the mainstream.

There are two masterminds behind the up and coming urban digital entertainment entity QD3: Quincy Jones III, son of a famous music impresario and TV exec, and Paul A. Campbell, a former Microsoft business development exec. Together, they have been able to craft an integrated, multi platform distribution model. They believe there is on simple key to success in this arena:

“In the Web 2.0 world, availability of content is key. Amazon and eBay made their fortunes on making products available any time, all the time. Consumers generally want as much content as possible delivered efficiently and securely in a way that they can customize and control” (Fast Company).

The lesson is simple: in order to successfully play with the big boys of the industry, smaller firms must strive to better read customer needs and desires while filling in gaps left by their competitors.

Many of us are intrigued by the life of Dwayne Michael Carter BKA Lil’ Wayne.  The Carter will delve deep into the mind and career of this young Man that has went from childhood fame to world-renowned fanfare.  Ironically, Wayne did not give any interviews for this film and eventually pulled out as a support system.  Despite all of this, will the movie still give us what we want…full knowledge and explanation of the true being of Lil’ Wayne?  Executive produced by Quincy ‘QD3′ Jones III, The Carter documentary will be released on DVD on November 17.  If you are interested in pre-ordering, visit http://thecarterdoc.com/.

I remember listening to these PodCasts in college on iTunes and now that I’m living in the Bay Area its been awesome to hear them in person and help out as a guest Staff member for a few of the talks.

They are literally free and open to the public so if you are around the area I would highly suggest checking them out. At the talks expect to hear from some of the top innovators in the world like Eric Ries, Steve Jurvetson, Mark Pincus, Steve Blank, and may others with the occasional informal meetups after the talks with some entreprenuerial Stanford Students.

En riktig kultlåt är det här och den väcker många gamla minnen till liv från tiden då man växte upp i Västervik. Jag och mina kompisar var helt insnöade på streetdanceprylen, jag var inne på DJ-grejen och rapping och några av mina kompisar satsade på dans. Har ett riktigt nostalgiskt ögonblick bevarat på film, det är min kompis som filmade ett uppträdande på stora torget i Västervik nån gång sommaren 1983.

Killarna som dansar var ett gäng som reste runt i Sverige och körde såna uppvisningar. Minns inte vad de kallade sig, men killen i svarta byxor med röda revärer på är Quincy Jones III, dvs son till superproducenten Quincy Jones. Det var ju så att Quincy Jones var gift med en svensk kvinna ett tag och med henne fick han en son som fick namnet Quincy Jones III. Vad sonen håller på med nuförtiden har jag inte en aning om, men här kommer ett litet smakprov på när han och hans kompisar dansar loss på stora torget i Västervik sommaren 1983.

Eftersom det är filmat med Super-8 film utan ljud så har jag fått lägga på lite tidstypisk musik i efterhand så det är alltså inte originalljudet till filmen. Därför så är det inte i takt heller men ska jag vara ärlig så tycker jag inte det märks så mycket ändå.

Charmillionaire, MC Hammer og Mista FAB

Innovation Center Denmark har en blog, hvor jeg også skriver indlæg. Jeg har lige postet et omkring den mest fantastiske panel diskussion, jeg længe har været til. Panelet bestod af MC Hammer, Quincy Jones III, Chamillionaire og Mista FAB og omhandlede fremtiden inden for online musik og hvordan musikere kan bruge nye medier til at promovere sig selv og skabe nye indtjenings muligheder.

Må indrømme, at jeg aldrig har været så imponeret over et panel før. Jeg vil virkelig anbefale, at I bruger en halv time på at se det. Sjældent har jeg grint så meget og så er det fyldt med de fedeste punchlines nogensinde. Det er fantastisk at se hvad der sker, når 4 hardcore rappere mødes til en debat om ny teknologi og sociale medier.

Producer QD3 has announced plans to release the first ever DVD biopic on the life and career of Lil Wayne. The embryonic project aims to chronicle Wayne’s family background and what drives his famous work ethic. “We at Young Money are thrilled to be working with QD3 on production of The Carter,” explained Wayne’s manager Cortez Bryant to AllHipHop.com. “As Weezy’s manager and lifelong friend, I am excited to see Wayne’s story documented with truth and sincerity.” Directed by Independent Spirit Award winner Adam Lough, the film also features exclusive interviews with Wayne and his close personal friends. QD3, born Quincy Jones III is also the creator of the highly successful Beef series. Jones agrees that Wayne has achieved the status of an elite artist. “Our only bio to date is Tupac Shakur-Thug Angel,” he stated. “I think that speaks for the regard we have for Wayne’s position in music history as a classic artist. The goal is to go beyond a standard doc and create a theatrical product that will serve as the definitive documentation of Wayne’s life and career.” (Source)

I mean when I first got wind of this EXCITING news I almost jumped out of my knickers! This is more exciting than Barack Obama running for President!!!!  

And congratulations to you QD3 Entertainment for finally moving away from making those embarassing ‘Beef’ DVD’s. 

A biopic about Lil Wayne is a welcome change and what the world truly wants and needs. Give yourselves a pat on the back!

- No but seriously folks… FOR F**KS SAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (rolls eyes) Is a DVD biopic necessary? The less I know about Wayne and his creepy relationship with Baby - a long with his fascination with syrup, the better!
