How do you handle these two situations?

When writing in Morgan’s POV, and say, her sister Alice receives a telephone call, the reader/Morgan will not know what the caller is saying, but only read/hear Alice’s side of the conversation, correct? But, if Morgan is alone, then the reader will read/hear the caller’s conversation as well. Correct?

When Morgan is having a flashback, and she recalls something someone said, then I should use ‘single quotations’ around the quote, correct? See example:

The plans she and Blake had had when selecting their home flooded her thoughts. His words rang clearly as she remembered how he had explained, ‘Don’t worry how small it is now. There is plenty of room to grow.’ He had stood at the kitchen door with a hand on the knob, sporting his wide irresistible smile. The smile grew wider as he opened the door, motioning for her to follow out into the backyard. Holding his arms out wide, he had stepped off a large square, saying, ‘There is ample yard. We can add a family room here when we start having babies.’ She vividly recalled the kiss to her cheek he’d given her as he patted her stomach. Now where his kiss had been, she wiped away a tear and allowed one last time to grieve for the dreams that never came true.

I was on for it ; I came from a line of cop killers. I’d been chased by them ; I’d divided into underground rivers to get away from them. They were never people, the rozzers… -They are the cement, said Jack. -The peelers. We get them and it falls apart. (198,1 ff.

Interpretation

The quotation states similarities between HenrySmart Junior and Henry Smart Senior.

On the one hand both are represented as cop killers. On the other hand father and son have the habit to escape by using the underground rivers.

In addition to that, the policemen prevent the organistion from achieving their purpose. Therefore, Henry Smart Junior is convinced and follows the order of murder. In his opinion, the cops cannot be seen as human beings.

Quotations, supporting Henry’s idea of becoming a killer

-We’re making history, said Jack. -Not just acting it out, man. We’re writing it. D’you know why there were thousands down at the docks today?

-Because i whacked the rozzer.

-Yes.That’s why, exactly. We‘ re deciding what’s going to happen next. Not them. (191,16 ff.)

I believed him. One swipe of da’s leg and the gobshites in the Castle had hopped. We had them on strings. Now Henry Smart was a Dublin boy, a lad without equal or peer.(191,29ff.)

With the S beside your name you were never lonely.(197,24)

The police ruled the country. -And that’s why we’re going to kill them, said Jack -Assassinate every bloody one of them.(197,36 ff.)

____________________________

Facts that persuaded/convinces Henry Junior to become a killer are hat he is not alone anymore as he was in the past. The organization he is in develops to a kind of family. Apart from that, he cannot stand the policemen. Another point to mention is that he is concious about the power and the influence which he possesses. Hence, he attracts much attention which he did not get while he was a child. Henry Smart is eager to become a legend as Henry Smart Senior, his father, was. Thus, he decides to become a cop killer.

We have had quite a few requests to provide décor ideas to hide unsightly air conditioning units in gardens. Badec Bros Deco specializes in feature walls, such as gabion feature walls. These designer walls are ideal to hide air conditioning units, unsightly views, or ugly old walls, without having to remove the existing wall.

We manufacture our gabion walls from 30mm x 3mm angle iron, which is welded together to ensure a strong frame. Then we weld strong, steel mesh onto the frame to create the shape of the wall. Once the hollow wall structure has been manufactured, we install it on site and fill it with pebbles, slate stone or chunky quartzite gravel.

Alternatively, we can also construct mild steel feature walls and add intricate detail to the surface of the steel to decorate it. There are three finishes to choose from. We can powder coat the feature wall in any colour imaginable, or we can apply mild steel finish or a rusted finish. Our powder coating is SABS approved.

Badec Bros Deco can also manufacture mild steel screens. These screens can be used to create privacy or to hang Cubedec hanging pots or hanging sculptures onto. We can customize our mild steel screens to any size and shape and with a wide range of finishes, such as powder coating in any colour, mild steel finish or a rust effect or even wooden cladding.

Should you wish to have your very own signature Cubedec feature wall, steel dustbin, interactive sculpture, Cubedec shelving, Cubedec miniature Zen garden box, 2010 Soccer World Cup décor, mild steel lamp shade, mild steel screen, Cubedec laser-cut logo, gabion counter, narration stand, gabion light cage, gabion bollard, gabion water feature, sculptured living wall, sculptured flagpoles, unique pot and drip tray, customized sculpture, Cubedec bench, trendy steel décor with your company logo emblazoned on it, mild steel inspirational slogan, steel laser-cut signage, mild steel mould, Cubedec Pot, hanging sculpture, gabion pot, gabion wall or gabion terrace, wooden or steel feature poles, bar code trellis, Cubedec water feature, pergola, arch, sculpture or trellis, please feel free to contact our energetic and knowledgeable sales representative, Mareleen van Zijl, on her cell phone at 078 800 5112, the office number at 012 460 7990, or via e-mail at mareleen@badecbros.com

I ran across this wonderful quotation from Benjamin Franklin and just had to share. Then, I decided to consult my Cynic’s Dictionary to see how they defined “parenting.”

“Educate your children to self-control, to the habit of holding passion and prejudice and evil tendencies subject to an upright and reasoning will, and you have done much to abolish misery from their future and crimes from society.” — Benjamin Franklin

Parenthood
“That state of being better chaperoned than you were before marriage.” (Marcelene Cox)

Parents
“People who were invented to make children happy by giving them something to ignore.” (Ogden Nash)

“Those that are sometimes a bit of a disappointment to their children, having failed to fulfill the promise of their early years.” (Anthony Powell)

“But all the feelings we are made to experience by the joy or the misfortune of a real person are produced in us only through the intermediary of an image of that joy or that misfortune; the ingeniousness of the first novelist consisted in understanding that in the apparatus of our emotions, the image being the only essential element, the simplification that would consist in purely and simply abolishing real people would be a decisive improvement.”
