Reread an old note book, some words I jotted down on my first visit to France. Franck and Gwen generously offered me a big room in a loft apartment in Paris, and endless books. I picked up an autobiography of a photographer, Eric Valli, on the bookshelf next to my futon and could not seem to be able to put it down. Here he recounts many assignments (given by National Geographic) and how he works with anxiety.

“I have lost count of times. I have felt horrendous anxiety at the start of an assignment or a big project…

I contemplated it as though hoping to find a revelation there and I suddenly said to myself that the capernaum, the imbroglio, all the unknowns and complexities I carried inside me that tortured me and of which the sky was only a reflection, harboured inside is the solution, the response that would enable me to reach my goal. I only had to look for it. In other words, I no longer had to fear or fight my anxieties but on the contrary use them. Plunge inside them. Invest them. Listen to, feel and sense what they had to say to me. Fear should not get in my way. It simply tells me that we are on the edge of an unknown territory. Do we want to explore it? If yes, how do we prepare ourselves to do so? Fear guides us and shows us just where to go, if we want to learn, understand and move forward. This is where creation lies, where life lies. It is as frightening as it is exciting. The main thing is to keep going forward and presevering. Gradually, a project, so shapeless at the outset, begins to take forms and comes to life. It is often that then carries us and supports us, that dictates our choices to us and gives us the answers. In this creative process is a real magic.”

“A hermit had said to me one day in Dolpo — the same words that features at the heart of the film: “what faced with two paths, always choose the most difficult, the one that will bring out the best of yourself. Jacques remained thoughtful for a moment than turned to me, a smile on his face: “In any case, we don’t have a choice.” For after all, what would be the sense of existence if we didn’t try to give the best of ourselves?” — by Eric Valli

When the storm rages within, my anxiety cripples my soul, everything blurs and I find the world swirling round and round, I reread those words and can stay put a little bit.

For what choice do we have indeed apart from giving the best of ourselves? Indeed.

Today’s quote comes from Charles Caleb Colton who said, “There is this difference between happiness

Today’s quote comes from Charles Caleb Colton who said, “There is this difference between happiness and wisdom, that he that thinks himself the happiest man, really is so; but he that thinks himself the wisest, is generally the greatest fool.”

I liked this one because as I seek wisdom I am continually reminded that I am not so wise, or that I have a continual path to follow on – my dad used to say to me, “The more I know the more I realize how much I don’t know.” It’s like that for me with wisdom. Yet seek it I do… so taking the advice from the above quote – I will be happy – by thinking it so, and I will seek wisdom knowing it’s a journey with great opportunity!

This is also something wonderful from Orrison Swett Marden, “Wisdom is knowledge which has become a part of one’s being.” Love that!

Sometimes it’s hard for me to tell apart the boundaries of my emotions. So I prefer the vague discourse. I revel in a little ambiguity. As what it is ambiguous can be judged in many ways, I don’t risk so much getting it wrong.

Feeling good, feeling bad, feeling ok… These expressions don’t actually mean much, but they are comfortable. The precise naming of a feeling is a dangerous endeavor. What it is named tends to become reality, through the wonderful mechanism of self-fulfilling prophecy.

Mosaic is frequently used with water, both indoors and outdoors.

Water features and swimming pools are nearly always decorated with mosaic. Mosaic is both waterproof and durable, which makes it such an ideal medium to use to decorate your water feature or pool. There is also a visual affinity between water and mosaic, which is aesthetically pleasing.

Badec Bros Mosaic has also created a collection of beautiful mosaics to clad the baths of an exclusive lodge in the bushveld. Our creative team also crafted striking mosaics for the basins, showers and bathroom floors for the lodge. The choice of tile types, colours and sizes, as well as, the different sorts of designs is also very versatile.

This vibrant company continues to grow from strength to strength, with trend-setting designs and professional installations. Should you be interested in having Talita Badenhorst design and quote you on a unique mosaic for your home, garden, office or lodge, you can contact her on her e-mail address at talita@badecbros.com
