(Season 1, Episode 1)

The boys of Robot Chicken have brewed up something a little more focused and yet no less bizarre with Titan Maximum. An homage/parody to Voltron and all those other giant robot series of yore, this is the story of Titan Force Five, a group of five heroes who fought evil throughout the galaxy by transforming their ships into a giant robot and punching evil right in the kisser.

I’m not sure that “giant robot” was screaming for a full-on treatment by some of the boys behind Robot Chicken, but here it is. It utilizes a cleaner form of the stop-motion animation style of its predecessor, but offers a linear storyline and characters. There’s even a plot underneath all the bad jokes and sight gags.

As a parody of these types of shows, it works pretty well. Of course, we catch up with the crew after the Titan Force Five has been disbanded, leaving them all unemployed, and one of them dead after the longest fall off a balcony in recorded history, a sight gag that had already been done on Robot Chicken, only there it was George of the Jungle falling through branches forever.

The villain is a former member, meaning there are only three left. Enter the obligatory child and monkey and you’ve got yourself a new crew. Until the robot got destroyed.

The fact that they destroyed the robot is the only reason I might return; curiosity as to what they’ll do next. If they just rebuild it, I might be done with the show. It’s not terrible, but neither is it particularly funny enough or groundbreaking enough to make me want to watch Voltron, now with adult humor.

That’s what I like about Robot Chicken. It makes fun of the stuff we liked, but only for a second and then it moves on. For the record, I don’t want thirty minutes of adult Thundercats, Care Bears or He-Man either.

Links after the jump.First, Pop Candy has a cool little piece about the upcoming Adult Swim series, Titan Maximum, a stop motion animated show from the team behind Robot Chicken that seems to inject everything we love about that show with some Voltron inspired badassery. Also, with a voice cast of Seth Green, Breckin Meyer, Rachael Leigh Cook, and Billy Dee Williams, it could be the coolest damn thing on TV.

Elsewhere, Complex.com has posted an interview with my personal god, Joss Whedon. In it, Joss, always a great talker, discusses Dollhouse, Dr. Horrible, comic books, and, oddly enough, Dancing With The Stars. Definitely worth the read.

I’ve mentioned in the past that one of the few regular readers of this blog is a huge House fan who would prefer to live spoiler-free. The fact that he is, also, my roommate makes me want to keep the piece in that regard. With that said, if you are not he, I would ask that you immediately click here to see a huge spoiler that Ausiello has about the future of that show. Also, as I’ve said before, if you aren’t reading The Ausiello Files, you are missing out on a great source of television information.

I’m not going to dwell on Jay Leno’s continued drubbing in the ratings other than to point you to this link from ew.com about last night’s ratings. And to say, yay Criminal Minds! I forgive you for making me cry.

I’ve ranted about this in my personal circle of friends, so I guess that now that Entertainment Weekly is covering it it becomes fair game for here. Kirk Cameron is officially trying to indoctrinate people into his brand of crazy on college campuses by adding a 50 page introduction to Darwin’s seminal work, The Origin of Species. Who better qualified than Kirk Cameron who has advanced degrees in…wait…what was that? No advanced degrees? Oh…moving on.

Since I still think he’s a reprehensible human being, and was just made aware of this today by a tweet by the amazingAmanda Hess over at The Sexist, I figure I’d pass along some information about a group of people on Facebook that are just as disgusted by Tucker Max as I am. I hope you take the time and join to help us speak out against this guy.

Finally, I hate Tyler Hansbrough. I really, truly do. But I’ll be damned if this commercial doesn’t make smile like a big old goofy dog. Damn you, AT&T!(By the way, can I get a discount on my bill this month for promoting this?)

Here’s some tips on spotting a fake account: First, see if it has the Twitter verified seal on it. All celebrities have been encouraged to register with the company in order to show their legitimacy. If they don’t have the seal, check with TruthTweet and Valebrity, two very reputable databases of celebrity accounts. Lastly, check with official sites for the network, show and the celebs themselves. If they are not confirmed in any of those places, odds are they fake. Additionally, if the account in question is following any of the fake ones above, odds are that it is fake, too.

Being a journalist, I have access to the publicists and managers that most don’t have.  I will continue to contact them as necessary to confirm or deny accounts but please do you part: do not follow fake accounts but spread the word that they are in fact fake!

Pelo menos foi isso que eu li no site da Info, veja aqui, bem resumindo o que nosso grande amigo John C. Dvorak escreveu, não o conheço ^^ ,  é de que as ferramentas de buscas existentes hoje no mercado devem rever seus algoritmos de busca e procurar trazer como resultado algo o mais relevante possível para nós e não trazer como resultados conteúdos por serrem famosos(mais visitados) ou trazer como resultados páginas que usam técnicas de melhoramento de posição.

Na própria página da matéria vi que contém algumas críticas ao John(quem escreveu), bom acho que o erro do nosso amigo John foi usar um termo de muito impacto mas se a pessoa que ler a notícia  tiver bom senso  e procurar o contexto a que se foi aplicado o título  ela irá perceber que o nosso amigo John tem razão,  os buscadores nos retornam muitos resultados fora do contexto da busca, seria normal se fosse pela 6ª página em diante mas isso acontece na primeira, alguns motivos para isso na minha humilde opinião é que o algoritmo da mais crédito as páginas mais visitadas ou aquelas que pagam mais^^. Outro problema também é que uma mentira contada várias vezes se torna verdade, isso para o Google,  exemplo procure no Google imagens Brasil por: jennifer katharine gates, filha do Tio Bill Gates,  e você irá ver uma garota muito gostosa bonita aparecer na maioria dos resultados:

Mas na verdade a mulher que aparece se chama: Rachael Leigh Cook, uma modelo que agora esta se aventurando no mundo dos cinemas, o mais legal é que o Bing (Buscador do Tio Bill) retorna a mesma coisa ¬¬.

Finalizando a minha humilde opinião os algoritmos de tais ferramentas de buscas precisam mesmo de uma certa atualização, mas diferente do John  não digo que sejam inúteis, na minha época de escola ou nas minhas horas de procuras por artigos e exemplos de códigos são úteis e não “falham”, mas que tais mudanças seriam um diferencial seriam, aproveitando se alguém estiver afim de começar um movimento comigo, o movimento: “Mude o Layout Google” bem que ele poderia mostrar prévias de imagens dos Links, em colunas,  sabe algo mais Web 2.0 bonito ^^.

The story:

The Allens is a family of hairdressers in a small Yorkshire town that have  not spoken to each other in 10 years, since Shelley Allen (the late Natasha Richardson) ran off with hair model Sandra (Rachel Griffiths), leaving husband Phil Allen (Alan Rickman) alone to carry on with the hair salon they have and to raise their son, Brian (Josh Hartnett). But Shelley has cancer and has only a few months to live and it is up to her to make sure her little family get along with each other before she passes on.

As in answer to her prayers, the British Hairdressing Competition come to the town and she convinces the whole family, including girlfriend Sandra, to compete. As the Allens muddle along in the competition, they manage to put aside differences, compete as a team and eventually become the family Shelley has always wanted to be with.

The verdict:

I’ve always loved small, English indie films. They always have that quirkiness, that very Englishness about it that sets them apart from American ones. This movie is no exception. You have Alan Rickman as the hairdresser with an axe to grind, Natasha Richardson as the ex-wife dying of cancer who ran off with Rachel Griffith’s Sandra. But it’s the supporting characters that are fun to watch. Josh Hartnett’s Brian moonlights as the hairdresser for the dead and spends time talking to them while he styles their hair, the always intriguing and fun to watch Bill Nighy (who I adore since “Love Actually”) as Rickman’s Allen’s arrogant arch nemesis, Ray Robertson, the bumbling mayor who gains the town’smridicule for hosting the competition, but quickly gains their respect when he gains more confidence for hosting it. Other quirky characters include the sheep farmers with whom Bill Nighy’s team stay in, the “Kilburn Cutters” (Kilburn! I actually know where that is, yay!) a pair of brothers and a model who comes between them (when she suddenly and stupidly asks one of the brothers to dye her pubes red) and the pensioner, Daisy (Rosemary Harris), that Shelley strikes up a friendship with while doing her hair for free on her days  off. The only one who seems a bit two-dimensional is Rachel Leigh Cook’s character, who just seem to appear to provide eye candy (which I don’t mind) and a love interest to Josh Hartnett’s character (who by the way, is an underrated actor who does a pretty good English accent here). Anyway, this cast of characters provide the entertainment as the main characters figure out how to deal with each other, and I like that as the hairdressing competitioin heats up, the Allens’ relationships are also brought to the fore and they have no choice but to confront each other about it. I also like that the lesbianism in this movie is treated not as an issue in itself, but as just a regular part of it. When Sandra and Phil finally confront each other, Sandra quietly tells him she just fell in love with his wife and that was it.

Overall, this is an entertaining little film and makes me want to have my hair done pronto. ^^

So, this countdown is about MY TOP 10:  Fictional Bands and what songs best represent those bands.  I’m going to throw in about 5 BONUSES throughout this countdown as well.  It’s a fun one in a different kind a way (MY TOP 10s are always fun, aren’t they?), so I’m going to be a little looser with it.  I’m going to go girl-boy-girl-boy as much as I can, so this time around the men will be on top.  I’ve  let the women lead more than a few times, so turnabout is fair play. 

8. Josie and The Pussycats “Theme Song”

Who doesn’t know J0sie and The Pussycats?  The fictional band that started as an Archie comic in the 1960s has been through several incarnations including a cartoon series, a real life band version (to accompany the cartoon show),  and, more recently,  a feature film.   A couple of tidbits, Cheryl Ladd, who would go on to Charlie’s Angels fame, was Melody Valentine, in the band version that cut one album and six singles in 1970, and Rachael Leigh Cook, Tara Reid, and Rosaria Dawson played Josie McCoy, Melody Valentine, and Valerie Brown in the 2001 film, respectively.  Arguably, Josie and The Pussycats are the first Spice Girls or Pussycat Dolls, or at least 3 versions of Scary Spice.

I’m just BONUS-crazy this time around.  Figured I’d give you a “real” Pussycats song, too, and not just the theme.

Some of the fine ladies over at Jezebel put Taylor Swift on notice for her latest song and video, “You Belong to Me.”

The argument over at Jezebel is that Swift’s new video is dragging out the skeletons of the 1999 teen makeover sensation She’s All That.  The geeky girl who sheds her glasses and ponytail and magically becomes the girl she never dreamed she could be.

(Apparently no one on the Internet wants to give me a still of the post-makeover-walking-down-the-stairs scene.)

I could understand that if that’s what was actually happening in both Swift’s video and She’s All That. For the latter, the makeover is but part of the movie.  What’s more is that Rachael Leigh Cook’s Laney is taught to open up and enjoy life (hey, didn’t we see that movie on Friday?) and Freddie Prinze Jr.’s Zack learns that his eyebrows will only get him so far.

(Are you really telling me you wouldn’t judge her for that hat?)

Actually, let’s back up a little bit, shall we?  To another adaptation of George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion.  The 1964 Audrey Hepburn movie version of My Fair Lady shows a_the bet taking place in front of Eliza Dootlittle, b_Eliza’s complete overhaul from accent to conversational subject matter to dress, c_the professor has zero qualms with throwing her away post-bet, and d_even after all of that douchebaggery, he still gets the girl.  (I love Audrey Hepburn in a kind of creepy way, but I would like to see a remake of the movie with Shaw’s original ending intact, wherein Eliza does not come back to the professor.)

We know of other makeovers, too:

(Everything was working out okay until that guy came back to claim his child bride, which, for me, is a much bigger problem than a personality overhaul.)

(Tell me you haven’t lived every moment since childhood waiting for this moment to happen to you.)

(The headband probably keeps the dandruff at bay.)

So here’s the deal.  The trope keeps appearing, but it seems to be improving each time we dust it off.  Clearly, things went badly for Eliza; we can’t really excuse much about what happens in that movie.  And at least Zack and his friends had the courtesy to make the bet behind Laney’s back.  Laney is also allowed to stay who she is – doing weird interpretive stage art crap – and Zack learns to love her without treating her as a commodity/project, hints of which can be seen prior to the makeover.

The biggest arguments for Swift’s video is that boy and girl are most assuredly friends prior to her showing up, and the boy’s reciprocal love note is already stashed in his suit jacket.  Uhm, also.  It’s prom?  Or something resembling it?  Girls tend to look better there than when hanging out in their bedrooms at night writing creepy notes to shove against the window (why is there no text messaging in this video?).  Yes, she’s kind of geeky, but she’s also the girl-next-door, and the girl-next-door trumps all other stereotypes, especially when they play out to a peppy tune.

Robot Chicken fans have a few things to look forward to… first, the new DVD of the second Star Wars Robot Chicken will be out in July. They’re stickin’ a mention of our Gold Label Goods’ Cafe Press Stoopid Monkey store in there so the fans know where to go to get all the righteous gear (yes, that means direct from us!).

Other newz is the pop-culture fun isn’t ending any time soon, as Adult Swim has just ordered a brand spankin’ new show from the nut-ballz Robot Chicken crew (Tom Root, Matthew Senreich, and Seth Green — and produced by their Stoopid Monkey Productions) called Titan Maximum.

Set 100 years in the future, Saturn’s moon Titan is defended by some young punk pilots whose spaceships combine Transformer style to form a giant robot. It’s a hilarious play on the Japanese cartoons of the 1980s utilizing stop animation. The first episodes are scheduled to start in September and will feature the voices of Rachael Leigh Cook, Dan Milano, Eden Espinosa, Breckin Meyer as Titan Maximum, and Seth Green as the voice of the villain. Root will be leading the writing staff, working with DC Comics artist Geoff Johns and Marvel Comics artists Zab Wells. Woo-hoo!

A while back, the editor of this very site put out a query: “Give me a Top 10 list of your favorite High School Movies.” I told her I wanted in – after all, who doesn’t love to indulge in a little HS drama? So I sat down and started listing. Only I discovered that including just 10 was more impossible than winning 8 medals in one Olympic games. And I am no Michael Phelps.

So, I listed 10. The first list of what would soon become many. After posting, many of you seemed quite angry with my decisions. Your comments were full of ALL CAPS and lots of exclamation points!!!! You were upset that I had left some classics off the list. Perhaps you didn’t notice the “Part 1″ in the title, or perhaps you just needed everyone to know of your love of The Breakfast Club.

Not that it mattered; I was clearly coming back for round 2. So here it is – another 10 gloriously angsty high school flicks. Get that Smart Pop ready, ladies; these high school dramas are gonna rock your lockers!

11. She’s the Man
In a take on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, Amanda Bynes is Viola Hastings. In the many twists and turns of the movie, she enters her twin brother’s private school, tries to make the soccer team to beat her school’s team and make her sexist ex cry, get rid of her brother’s obnoxious girlfriend, fall for her… er… her brother’s roommate, and much more. Whew! Amanda is such a power girl in this movie. It’s nothing like my high school experience (I never did the drag thing), but totally entertaining all the same.

12. 10 Things I Hate About You
Are you kidding? Seriously? This movie is on the top of every list. Another Shakespeare twist done right.
Kat rocks!! The tough, sensitive chick lands the hot, caring, bad boy; the college of her dreams; and the Fender Strat! I want to scream in pure bliss. You can laugh at me, but I know you’re squealing on the inside. 10 Things I Hate About You is just too good to be true. (See what I did there? Get it? No?)

13. Jawbreaker
High school, like life, is a hierarchy. Some are at the top of the list, some at the bottom of the barrel. So it makes sense that Fern Mayo wanted to be like Liz Purr. It’s completely tweaked that Liz’s BFFLs accidentally killed her, made her death look like a sick sexual perversion, and turned poor Fern Mayo into Vylette, the newest member of the clique. Be careful what you wish for.

14. The New Guy
Umm. Eliza Dushku’s wardrobe montage was kinda whack, but if I could snap my neck like Dizzy and make people scared I’d totes do it! It’s the ultimate makeover; why go from Geek to Chic, when you can go from Geek to The New Guy??

15. Say Anything…

Here’s the deal: when someone asks what’s the greatest thing you ever did for love what will you say? Lloyd Dobler can say anything (almost). The infamous boom box scene where Lloyd stands outside Diane Court’s window and plays In Your Eyes is a top rated classic, but who can forget the date where he’s shivering because he’s happy. And yes, Diane was so deeply touched by his vulnerability that she “spent the night with him” and told her dad about too. If you’ve forgotten, go watch this movie again! Now!

16. Can’t Hardly Wait
I’m LOLing just thinking about this! Typical-guy-misfit-is-enamored-with-teen-queen-and-waits-until-graduation-to-tell-her-after-her-jock-boyfriend-dumps-her-then-she-finds-herself-and-gets-letter-from-misfit-and-tries-to-find-him-but-he-finds-her-and-she-thinks-he’s-a-drunk-creep-and-people-get-abducted-by-aliens-and-Seth-Green-loses-virginity. Whew! Like I said typical. Ethan Embry paves the way for Seth Cohen, Rusty Cartwright, and Paulie Bleeker. Yum.

17. Strike! (Aka Strike! Aka The Hairy Bird)
On one hand, this movie has way too many names. On the other, it’s a Kirsten Dunst flick. Love her or hate her, the girl’s good. At an all-girl prep school in the early 1960s, the girls are flung to the trough of puberty. Ha. I’m already reminiscing…

Anyway, the school decides to go co-ed and Verena (Dunst) became a one-girl revolution. The girls decide to play some games and do some damage when the boys come to visit. This involves bra-stuffing, drink spiking, sex having, cat fighting – your basic no-holds barred war. And don’t you think for a moment that it ends there. The best is yet to come.

18. Carrie
This movie is the reason why I was nice to everyone in high school. Seriously. Okay no not seriously, but it definitely made me fear anyone with that name. Regardless, it’s a fun one to watch (with people that, you know, like you).

19. The Breakfast Club
GREATEST MOVIE EVER!!! Great cast, great costumes, great plot, great, great, great! Since I have no words I’ll let Brian’s (Anthony Michael Hall) letter speak for me.

Dear Mr. Vernon: We accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong. 20. Mean Girls

In junior high and high school, I’m sure you’ve encountered these *insert derogatory word here*, but they’ve got nothing on Regina George. She’s sweet and sour, impeccably dressed, and knows how to rock the school. Until Lindsay Lohan comes along. Tina Fey totally hit the mark with this movie and it will forever be a classic. It’s just so…fetch!

Essa guerra que dura mais de 20 anos entre PC e MAC é eterna. E depois da campanha de sucesso da Apple de apresentar sempre um personagem “cool” para representar o MAC e um nerd para o PC, a Microsoft definitivamente assumiu a postura, a frase e a própria idéia da campanha da Apple declarando-se: (Yes) I’m PC.

Apesar de assumir a sua posição de PC (bom.. também não dá para mudar), cada vez mais a Microsoft está tentando “des-nerd-ilizar” a sua imagem, agora lança o conceito lifestyle e facilidades que o Windows traz (o Bill Gates deve ter acabado de ler o livro do Steve Jobs, A cabeça de Steve Jobs – Editora Agir e se inspirado a fazer essa nova campanha). Assista abaixo o filme de lançamento da Microsoft:

Sinceramente, a imagem do Bill está tão atrelada a Microsoft (assim como a imagem NERD) que para desvincular isto, será necessário mais do que uma campanha, e sim foco em P&D (Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento) do(s) produto(s).

A utilização de personagens fashion, só funciona mesmo para o lado MAC, tanto que a nossa querida e brasileiríssima Gisele Bundchen só topou ficar do lado do MAC, olha como é o seu “lifestyle” se você tiver um MAC em casa e tentar editar um filme com um PC:

O que não podemos deixar de admitir é que a Sir Bill e sua Microsoft revolucionou o mundo, padronizando e colocando um (1) computador em cada residência (ou de fácil acesso à todos) e tornando o PC essencial para as empresas e o nosso dia-a-dia. (estou escrevendo de um PC). E isso é como um casamento, ver, viver e escutar as mesmas coisas todos os dias; e por isso algumas plásticas são necessárias. Veja como progrediu o som do start-up do Windows…

A única história que salvaria o Bill Gates disso tudo passava somente de um grande boato viral… que a sua filha Jennifer Katharine Gates, fosse a gatinha que você pode ver nas fotos abaixo, mas tudo apenas um grande mentira… pois a herdeira da grande fortuna de Bill nasceu em 1996 e este ano vai completar apenas 13 aninhos; e a atriz na foto é a Rachael Leigh Cook, quem em 1999 fez o filme ”Ela é demais” (She’s All That).

Bom, por enquanto o Steve Jobs ainda é o grande vilão (para a Microsoft), que copiou tudo de todos e colocou em uma nova “embalagem” para os consumidores, pois caso você não saiba, nem mesmo seu o iPod é tecnologia da Apple, tudo o que tem dentro e até mesmo por fora é feito por outras empresas (algumas delas chinesas). O próprio Steve admite isso e diz que: Criatividade é apenas conectar as coisas!
