The Walkers are back. The cast of ABC’s family drama Brothers & Sisters first drew in viewers four seasons ago with an all-star cast. Rob Lowe, Calista Flockhart, Rachel Griffiths and Sally Field star in this series that continues to win over its fans with engaging story lines and award-winning performances. The show has been nominated for four Golden Globes over the last three years and has seven additional wins under its belt, including an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in 2007 for Sally Field’s depiction of a meddling mother of five.

The excessively damaged Kitty McCallister (Calista Flockhart) starts off the new season as the main focus of her overly doting family. With four nosy siblings and an overbearing mother, Kitty reveals her recent lymphoma diagnosis.

In this season’s fourth episode, Kitty starts her chemo treatment with her sister Sarah at her side. Sarah’s usually obsessive and neurotic nature is pushed aside as she tries to comfort Kitty with tales of a love interest from her recent trip to France, showing viewers the softer, more tranquil side of her character.

While Kitty and Sarah brave their first chemotherapy session, Nora (Sally Field), their incessantly prying mother, is forced into distraction by shopping around for wedding venues with her soon-to-be daughter-in-law, Rebecca, and Rebecca’s mother, Holly. After a brief encounter with a venetian poolside porn set, it’s obvious that there’s an overwhelming amount of tension between Rebecca and her busybody mother, who can’t seem to go five minutes without answering her cell phone. This furthers the ongoing conflict between Rebecca and Holly that’s been in motion since the second season. Their on-again-off-again mother-daughter relationship is hostile at times and very telling of Holly’s deceptive and selfish motives, the antithesis of Nora’s demeanor, bringing a dualistic element to the show.

With his fiancé out searching for their wedding site, Justin (Dave Annable) focuses on his new addiction: med school. His boy-genius lab partner is giving him problems and after the news of Kitty’s cancer, he begs for an internship with an oncologist. The problem-ridden but lovable Walker brother is juggling everything life’s throwing his way. Viewers wonder if he can handle such a heavy load not so long after his battle with drug abuse and alcoholism.

The question that’s still unanswered this season: where is Tommy Walker? On the run from the law, Tommy (Balthazar Getty) fled the country to escape some legal issues last season, leaving his wife and daughter to fend for themselves. Right now, he’s definitely the black sheep of the family.

Four episodes into this season, it seems Kitty’s battle with cancer is pushing this show along. However, with four episodes dedicated to making it the main focus of the show, there better be some more drama soon.

Brothers & Sisters seems to be the watered-down version of HBO’s former family drama, Six Feet Under, following the lives of adult siblings and their recently widowed mother. Rachel Griffiths stars in both of these series, bringing along with her a cast of nearly certifiably crazy family members. Though Brothers & Sisters doesn’t go into as much detail surrounding drugs, homosexuality and sex, the show does touch on these subjects, treading them a bit lighter, diluting the topics for an ABC audience.

The writing for this show is rich. The situations the family is in are believable and easy to relate to. Starting off the season with a character fighting off cancer resonates with a large crowd, as many people have experience with it, either personally or through family members or friends. This family is one you almost want to be a part of, at least until all the siblings start intruding in personal matters, driving one another crazy. The dynamic between the five Walker siblings keeps viewers intrigued, whether they have a handful of brothers and sisters or not.

This ABC drama is for the bleeding hearts of the world, with its serious subject matter and emotional storylines, but has enough of a sound and stable plot to appeal to the masses. Brothers & Sisters will continue to entertain its loyal watchers, especially with its powerful and capable cast.

I lived in California before but that time I was in Petaluma, a bit north of Frisco. I occasionally saw celebrities, on and off of movie sets. Now I actually live IN Hollywood so I seem to see quite a few…so many so that I’ve even been surprised at how many I’ve seen. I stopped mentioning them after about 4 because it was becoming rather boring and to tell you the truth, I wouldn’t have known who most of them were if someone hadn’t told me.

Saturday night I was at a place called Busby’s shooting a few games of pool and minding my own business when the bartender asked the guy who was playing pool at the other table why he looked so familiar. The guy said that he was on Madmen, a show I’ve never seen. I didn’t have a clue who the guy was and I didn’t know his name so it wasn’t really worth mentioning.

What I should have mentioned about Saturday night was that I had a beer and 3 sips of a Bacardi and Coke after taking a pain pill Saturday afternoon. I did all of that without eating so I sort of deserved what happened on the way home. Unfortunately, others who DIDN’T deserve it paid for my stupidity.

After a few sips of my drink, I started to feel a bit queasy so instead of waiting for my daughter to pick me up, I started walking home. After walking for about a mile, I decided to hop on a bus for the last mile down La Brea. I don’t know if it was all the people dressed in costume that tightly packed the bus, the movement of the stupid thing or the fact that I never did eat, but I quickly turned green and felt an impending and unstoppable need to puke.

Luckily for me, the bus was approaching my stop so I pulled the string to signal a desire to get off of the bus. I was actually relieved for a moment because, despite my best efforts, I was about to blow chunks and I hoped to be able to do so at the intersection of La Brea and Melrose and NOT on the bus. I won’t tell you how far I went to avoid heaving all over the bus, but trust me…my efforts were valiant.

They were all for naught. Before the bus came to a stop, I barfed on the arm of the guy sitting to my right. Then, without missing a beat, I got the leg of the guy on my left. That’s when the bus stopped and I bolted without apology. All I wanted to do was get off of the bus before it happened again. I’m not blaming any of that on the Madmen dude, but it was quite a coincidence that I lost my beer shortly after seeing him.

Although I felt badly about leaving the contents of my stomach in the lap of some dude dressed up as a vampire…I planned to find a way to spin my short bus ride into a humorous story and I did so for most of Sunday. But I DID feel for the 2 guys who caught the wrath of my gastro-intestinal upheaval. I even tweeted an apology on Twitter on the off chance that the barfed upon guys were cleaned up and reading my tweets but I forgot to tell you guys about it until right now.

Then, yesterday my daughter and I stopped at a gas station in Camarillo. I was sitting in the car as my kid went in the store for dog food and although I noticed the chick in front of me stick the pump into the gas tank of her Suburban, I certainly didn’t know who the anorexic wench was so I paid no attention to her.

When my kid got back in the car, she told me that the woman in the Suburban was Rachel Griffiths, an actor on a show called Six Feet Under. I’ve never seen that show so even when my daughter told me who she was, I didn’t know her. And I couldn’t see her because she was sitting in the Suburban as the gas pump was hanging out of the left side of it all by itself.

Apparently, my daughter was a fan so when she made eye contact with the skinny chick, she smiled at her. By that time she was also pumping gas and not likely to run away from her own car to mob Griffiths. Also, it was the middle of the day and the gas station was full of men so I can’t imagine anyone feeling threatened, certainly not by the smile of a young woman.

Now, I know my kid. She isn’t a nut and she has seen her share of celebrities around town and as a planner of the Golden Globe awards. Star spotting has become very commonplace to her and if she wasn’t a fan of Six Feet Under, she probably would have walked away without smiling.

But as soon as she DID smile, the middle-aged quasi-celebrity jumped into her vehicle as though Jack the Raper had just shouted “You’re next!” at her. So even if I wanted to see her, I couldn’t unless I was nutty enough to wait for her to get back out of her gas guzzling truck/car and I’m not THAT nutty at all.

I’ve long ago lost count of the famous people whom I have met as well as those with whom I’ve worked. I can safely say that, with the possible exceptions of Bill Murray and Sally Fields, every single star who I’ve met has been as pleasant as a normal person would be.

It doesn’t surprise me that a nobody would hide from “prying eyes” because it seems as though the sweetest stars I’ve encountered have been the most celebrated. For example, Bob Hope, Charlton Heston and Harrison Ford were all more than gracious when I met them. I met Ford at a party but Heston and Hope could have easily avoided me. They didn’t. Instead they behaved liked regular human beings.

Those 3 men were stars that most people on this planet would know. If they were pumping gas along with 10 other people, at least 9 would have recognized them. But Rachel Griffiths would need quite a few more gas pumps full of people before anyone would pick up on her identity. She should be pleased that ANYONE knows who she is yet rather than return a smile from a fan and continue pumping her gas…she chose to go to all the trouble to jump back in her ride with the gas pump hanging out of the side of it.

I didn’t think about it until I was back on the freeway but if I see her again, I’m sticking my finger down my throat and blowing chunks all over her Suburban, her left arm or her right leg.

Casting continues for the movie of my life. I realize I keep casting Josh’s family; I don’t know why they are so much easier to cast than my family and I promise I’ll cast my friends (Amythst Romero, you’re next.) and possibly my bosses. But today belongs to Josh’s other sister, Heidi.

The family is pretty divided on this one, so I’ll be interested to see if they agree with my choice. Heidi has a sharp wit. She is a serious runner. And she’s going to be a lawyer soon! My choice for her is Rachel Griffiths. (And credit goes to Kristin Rueger for suggesting this actress. She nailed it!)

Apparently she gave birth in real life and hopefully didn’t name the kid something as wacky as Banjo. It has also been reported on various internet sources that pregnancy had made Rachel much nicer on set, which makes sense because even though I love the hell out of her, she kind of looks like a bitch in real life. But what can you do? Congratulations and welcome back, Rachel, now hug Kitty and make the cancer go away.

Channing Tatum (Stop-Loss, G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra mfl) spelar tuffingen Tyler från Baltimores mindre exklusiva kvarter.

Betyg: 2

Sex, death, incest and suicide are just four of the key ingredients in actress Rachel Ward’s powerfu

Sex, death, incest and suicide are just four of the key ingredients in actress Rachel Ward’s powerful directorial debut, which is based on the acclaimed novel by Newton Thornburg.

Ned (Ben Mendelsohn) is travelling with would-be actress Toni (Maeve Dermody) to see his estranged dying father Bruce (Bryan Brown) in the family’s drought affected homestead in South Australia’s Flinders Ranges. His younger sister Sally (Rachel Griffiths) is glad for someone to share the chores of caring for their bedridden parent, but in a series of flashbacks we discover the tragic events which led to the deaths of Ned’s twin sister Kate (Sophie Lowe), and their elder brother Cliff.

The secrets of the past gradually unfold as writer Ned puts pen to paper to explain to himself (and unwittingly to others) what has remained unsaid and unspoken for nearly twenty years.

BEAUTIFUL KATE is a confronting and challenging film with some remarkable performances from the key players. Bryan Brown (Rachel Ward’s real-life husband) is staggeringly good as the obnoxious family patriarch and Sophie Lowe is simply stunning as the dangerously playful Kate. It’s also pleasing to see Rachel Griffiths back on home ground after her huge success stateside in television’s Six Feet Under; and listen out too for the atmospheric music from veteran rocker Tex Perkins.

Although not to everyone’s taste BEAUTIFUL KATE will stay with you long after the credits have rolled and, on this evidence, Rachel Ward will have a long career on both sides of the film camera. Australian film making at its finest.

“it’s technically highly adept, decently acted and directed and there are some intriguing concepts – in particular a ballsy but kind of beautiful exploration of incest – that float about in its misty ambience.”

“Ward delivers a visually beautiful and emotionally rewarding study of a dying patriarch and his estranged son”

(Season 4, Episode 1)

Every year it still amazes me that I got sucked into the Walker family drama. The last family saga that really got me was Party of Five, and before that it was Little House on the Prairie, but those had dramatic exeptions. Five was kids basically raising themselves while Little House fed my love for those books as well as historical drama.

So how did the stereotypical rich family soap opera antics of the Walker clan not only pull me in, but keep me riveted for going on four years now? I chalk a lot of that up to an amazing cast, brilliant acting and some great dramatic writing.

But the opening sequence for this episode with Justin and Rebecca– That was down-right mean!

You made me wait the entire episode to find out if that car hit them, and of course you know I figured it did. Shit like that’s always happening to someone in the family.

I guess in a way, it still did. Kitty’s diagnosis, whatever it is specifically, is clearly like being run over by a car, only figuratively. As if she didn’t have enough to worry about with her marriage on the rocks and her own feelings of guilt.

As for Justin and Rebecca, I am ready for him to gain some control of that temper. It seems like this couple are fighting so much, you wonder why they stay together.

Then you think of the rest of the Walkers. Every family dinner devolves into a rioutous screaming match so a lot of that seems to be how they communicate. Look what happened at the engagement party.

First, Justin took out his frustrations about the bad meeting he had at med school on Rebecca, and then Nora and Holly almost got into a catfight over the engagement gifts, revealing Holly’s connection to the family for the first time to Nora’s mother, Ida (Marion Ross).

I loved seeing Ross again. She’s an absolute hoot as the judgmental maternal figure for Saul and Nora. And while it was refreshing to see Nora finally stand up for herself, it was perfectly within character for Ida to not only fail to learn anything from the experience, but to be indignant to the end.

My only hope is that Kitty’s illness and her marital problems don’t push Rob Lowe off the show. I love his character, and what he brings as an actor to the ensemble.

„*Knock knock – Who’s there? – Death – Death who? You’ve got to be more specific! – Uhm, the one that kills you? – Yeah alright, hit the cue, we’re so fucked up in here, we don’t even care!” All hail to the modern highspeed-interwebz, just sayin’.

Yay for me!

Step Up (2006)
★★★ / ★★★★

There’s something about dance movies that initially repel me from watching them, but when I actually give them a chance I can’t help but get engaged. “Step Up,” directed by Anne Fletcher (“27 Dresses,” “The Proposal”), tells the story of Tyler Gage (Channing Tatum) who gets community service for vandalizing the props of a school for the arts (along with two of his friends–Damaine Radcliff and De’Shawn Washington). Initially assigned to mop the floors, take out the garbage and fix knickknacks, he decides to help out a girl (Jenna Dewan) named Nora for her Senior project after her partner gets a sprained ankle. What initially starts out to be a typical dance movie becomes a story about lower class people striving to be something so much more. I noticed it change gears somewhere in the middle and I liked it that much more. I like the fact that instead of the students from the school making fun of others outside of their bubble, it’s the people from the outside who have prejudice toward the students. Typically, it’s shown as the other way around so I found that to be refreshing. I thought it was also a good move by the movie to recognize that most of the students in the art school are not rich, like most college students, in fact, they’re on financial aid or scholarships and they have to work their butt off to earn their place. I couldn’t be any more wrong when I thought that this was just going to be another one of those movies that glorify dancing and being “gangster” and nothing else. It’s actually pretty thoughtful and it presented characters going through pivotal moments in their lives. I also enjoyed watching the supporting characters such as Mario as an aspiring musician/DJ, Drew Sidora as Dewan’s energetic friend and Rachel Griffiths as the art school’s director. Overall, I liked “Step Up” because it surpassed my expectations and it made me want to, strangely enough, dance.

Kate (Sophie Lowe)

For her feature film debut as a writer/director, Rachel Ward has created a dark, gothic drama about family conflict and taboo relationships. Ben Mendelsohn plays Ned who is returning to his family home after a 20-year absence to see his dying father Bruce (Bryan Brown), whom he still blames for the suicide of his older brother. It’s a classic Prodigal Son narrative but made much murkier once we learn about Ned’s twin sister Kate, who also died young.

Beautiful Kate begins very contrived and unfocused but after about a third of the way in, it settles into the main story and becomes highly engaging. Ward’s direction initially seems weak but by the end of the film you feel as if you’ve just witnessed her evolution into a director of considerable confidence and assurance. Mendelsohn, Brown and Rachel Griffiths (playing Ned’s other sister) are excellent but the highlights of Beautiful Kate are the performances in the flashback sequences by newcomers Scott O’Donnell as 16-year-old Ned and Sophie Lowe as Kate. Beautiful Kate is an odd and inconsistent film but overall it is an atmospheric, visually striking and moving piece of cinema.

Rachel Ward, already known as a brilliant actress, has made her directorial debut with an amazing feature film entitled “Beautiful Kate”. I was fortunate enough to see it tonight at a packed Preview and I thought it a very moving and engaging film.

Set in the outback of Australia, stunning as well as stark scenery is the backdrop for this tale of teenage trials, family tribulations, complicated love – and it’s consequences.

I was hooked from the early stages of the film, right till the end. Rachel Ward needs to be congratulated on her first Directorship of a feature length film. It is a real winner.

Actors Ben Mendelsohn (Spotswood, Australia), Bryan Brown, (Cocktail, Breaker Morant), Sophie Lowe, Maeve Kermody and Rachel Griffiths (Muriel’s Wedding, My Best Friend’s Wedding) brought this film to life brilliantly.

To me this is a ‘must see’ film. Thoroughly entertaining so if you get the chance – do go and see it.

Here’s an energetic dance movie pairing a street dancer with a classical ballerina. The plot is reasonably simple making you look out for the next dance sequence.

Bad boy/street dancer Tyler gets in trouble for vandalising a school and has to pay it back in community service. Star of school/ballerina Nora needs a new partner for the senior showcase, lucky Tyler is avaliable.

Both characters act like spoiled brother and sister who hate each other for most of the movie till they figure out they’re in love. Elements of gang violence intrude upon the story giving it some edge and reality.

Quite liked the costumes which I usually hardly ever notice and there are some pretty funny scenes when Tyler tries to learn classical ballet.

The stand out scene is defintely the final senior showcase number. Wait for it, its pretty cool.

A család minden egyes tagjának megvan a saját kis katasztrófákkal teli élete.
Ezzel együtt néhány lépésével tud meglepetést okozni a hölgy. Ez elmondható a sorozat összes szereplőjéről. Nagyon komoly állkapocs zuhanásokat lehet átélni.
A fiatalabb fiú, David (Michael C. Hall – a Dexterben láthatjuk még), küzd a melegséggel (meleg vagyok, nem vagyok meleg, bevállaljam???), emellett minden kényszerességet sikerült örökölnie az anyjától. Hajlama van a pánikbetegségre, megfelelési kényszerre, túlérzékeny, vallásos, ennyi dióhéjban.
Clarie (Lauren Ambrose), a legfiatalabb testvér középiskolába jár.

A finom morbid humor. Nehéz egyensúlyozni ezen a terepen. A Sírhant műveknek sikerül.

Érdemes időt szánni a soundtrackek meghallgatására is.

A sorozatot eredetileg 2001-től 2005-ig sugároztak.

Let’s go!

E a Alison Pill coitada?

Em Best Comedy Series tivemos 30 Rock (duh), The Office (duh²), Entourage (duh³), How I Met Your Mother, Family Guy, Flight Of The Conchords e Weeds (yeah!); 3 das vagas já eram óbvias e tivemos essas 4 surpresas, acho que poderiam ter indicado The Big Bang Theory, United States Of Tara e Pushing Daisies no lugar de How I Met Your Mother, Family Guy e Flight Of The Conchords!

See you guys!

So today I bought PEOPLE because my fave Kate Gosselin is on the cover, it was the only publication

So today I bought PEOPLE because my fave Kate Gosselin is on the cover, it was the only publication that was not depicting her as a monster or as having a total breakdown. So I flip through it.

Page 2 an ad for A NEW ABC FAMILY ORIGINAL SERIES…. 10 Things I Hate About You! Why, why, why, why, why, why? Do they do this. The movie is one of my faves why do they have to spoil it. Why are they remaking Flashdance and Footloose? WHY!!!!!!! For a new generation. NO! Let them watch our generations….. http://www.tv.com/10-things-i-hate-about-you/show/76282/summary.html

Page 6 There is a snip it about a Marquette Michigan man who’s wife passed on hours after giving birth to their son Moses and how 25 women in the town have banded together to either nurse (ahhh that makes me shudder) or pump their breast milk to feed this baby because of the benefits of breast milk. I am sure that this baby would have been OK if he was given a bottle! Really this disgusts me! http://www.miningjournal.net/page/content.detail/id/528296.html

So then I read the article about Kate Gosselin. I really am not getting what happened. They went to Hawaii to renew their vows and now they are getting divorced. Jon really needs to go to therapy! He really is having a mid life crisis at 32. Those kids deserve better! Marriage is forever!

So Rachel Griffiths (Sarah on Brothers and Sisters) had a baby…. Don’t really even remember her being pregnant! So she has an older son get this his name is BANJO! What the hell….? So this led me to look up some other crazy celeb baby names! Bono…. We all know how I feel about Bono….. His kid is called, Elijah Bob Patricius Guggi Q? Reeeaaaalllllyyyyy? Coco, Apple, Trixiebill, Satchel don’t these people like their children? What happened to Kim, Mary, Jason, Todd?

Pamela Anderson is 42! Wow she is gettin’ old!

Haggen Dazs has a new ice cream falled five. It is crafted with just five all-natural incredients. http://www.haagendazs.com/products/five.aspx

Baby bump! CRAP I hate that damned saying! There is no need for it. Just like a onezie! IT’S A SLEEPER FOR CHRIST’S SAKE!

Sonic! Why can’t they come to Canada! I am going to start a petition. Well maybe I will just move to Alaska like I decided to anyway to escape this damned heat!

Did you know that Roma Downey the star of Touched by an Angel is married to Mark Burnett the producer of Survivor? I sure didn’t.

So apparently the full 80’s fashion resurgence is in swing. Plastic bracelets, lace tops, crocks replacing jellies, short skirts long shirts, long fake pearls, skinny jeans, neon (ohhhhhhhh nooooooooooo!) According to PEOPLE’s stylewatch section it is showing no signs of fading. I should be happy. I grew up in the 80’s I have done this before. It took me a long time to get used to not dressing like that, but to tell you the truth it is hard for me to go back. Hmmm! I guess I have to face it I am growing up!

Garbage STRIKE means that no matter how long you leave your rubbish out by the curb there are no special faries that are going to come and get it. Don’t put it out!

Gonna close it for now. So many things to talk about. However I think the Gloved one, the moonwalker, the Thriller needs to be mentioned. RIP MJ you were so much to so many!
