Hey all, I’m forewarning you now that this post will be taking a sidetrack to politics, rather than books. If you are uninterested, then please ignore this post. As a politics major in college and being a liberally-minded person, some things will piss aggravate me and as this is my place to share my thoughts, I shall do so.

But, for now at least, I’m going to be lazy and just repost the post from QueerClick (the site is NSFW, thus the reason I’m copying the content here).

They say that all the best men are either taken or gay. That’s true, though we’re still holding out on that other 90% of the male population to come around to our side. Well, according to Michael Schwartz, chief of staff for Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn, we’ll only have to wait 7 years until 11-year-old straight porn lovers grow up to become full-fledged cocksuckers! Here’s his quote made at the Value Voters Summit this weekend:

“it is my observation that boys at that age have less tolerance for homosexuality than just about any other class of people. They speak badly about homosexuality. And that’s because they don’t want to be that way. They don’t want to fall into it. And that’s a good instinct. After all, homosexuality, we know, studies have been done by the National Institute of Health to try to prove that its genetic and all those studies have proved its not genetic. Homosexuality is inflicted on people.

…all pornography is homosexual pornography because all pornography turns your sexual drive inwards…. And if you, if you tell an 11-year-old boy about that, do you think he’s going to want to go out and get a copy of Playboy? I’m pretty sure he’ll lose interest. That’s the last thing he wants.” You know, that’s a, that’s a good comment. It’s a good point and it’s a good thing to teach young people.“

We have to agree with Mr. Schwartz—masturbation’s pretty gay. You’re getting off by touching a guy’s dick and if you know how to jerk yourself, you’ve mastered about 25% of all gay sex. Though by our calculation, if masturbating to straight porn made you gay, it’d be a hell of a lot easier for us to find a date on Saturday night.

Of course, that’s not the case. Schwartz was playing the crowd at the 2009 Value Voters’ Summit, a gathering of racist, sexist, homophobic fuckwits frightened to death of feminism and jism, not to mention teh gays. But by trying to scare kids away from looking at straight porn, Schwartz is probably singlehandedly doing more to create a generation of gay men than any skin mag ever could. Thanks buddy!

So, homosexuality is inflicted upon people, and all who watch pornography (either hetero- or homosexual) will be essentially forced to become gay. Granted Mr. Schwartz did not say the exact words that “porn forces you to be gay,” but when one uses the word “inflicted” it invokes the connotation that should someone do A (watch porn) they will become B (gay). If that logic does not sound convoluted, misguided, ignorant, and/or hateful, then I don’t know what does. Some points: 1) I’m sure that the incredibly high percentage of heterosexual men who do watch porn will not appreciate the idea that because they have watched said porn they are now gay. 2) Being a gay male myself, I can say without a doubt that my homosexuality was not inflicted upon me. 3) Implying that homosexuality is inflicted, not genetic/natural/biological, makes no logical sense. What I mean is: homophobes believe that homosexuality is a choice, that homosexual persons choose to become gay. Mr. Schwartz, however, is saying that homosexuality is being inflicted upon people. If homosexuality is inflicted, then it cannot be chosen, as it has essentially been forced. Who started forcing people to be gay? If homosexuality is forced, how was the “1st homosexual” forced? At some point, someone had to have been born gay, or chosen to be gay. Which I’m sure would fit Mr. Schwartz’s warped beliefs, but…BUT, you’re giving that mysterious, hypothetical, 1st homosexual a lot of credit to say that they have inflicted homosexuality on approximately 10% of the population.

Just something to think about.

She is one of the few keeping her head and still focused on snuffing out the tin-hats and wingnut creepy-crawlies… Olberman seems to have flipped his lid and not in a good way)

   So there have been claims that the entertainment industry and the media have a liberal bias. The claim is nothing new. It is a charge that has existed for decades and one look at Hollywood, cable or network news or a newspaper and you can understand what has led to this allegation.

Once esteemed news outlets such as The Grey Lady of New York, The New York Times has only helped to perpetuate claims of bias. Their recent history is strewn with examples of political favoritism rearing its ugly head in the form of editorialized news stories that deliver more opinion than fact.

But recently a most unorthodox display of bias played itself out on the most unlikely places.

Subscribers to Optimum, a cable television and internet service provider received a little surprise when going through their channel lineup or adjusting their DVR settings.

There among other programs during the same 5:00 pm time slot was the show Glenn Beck. But while other shows like StarGate or Star Trek or the Guiding Light were indicated by their correct spellings and names, the Glenn Beck Show was displayed as “ Glenif*ck “.

Could this be a glitch of some sort? Well maybe but it has to be a pretty selective and stealthy one and it would be a very coincidental one. As of late, Glenn Beck has caught on as one of the largest antagonists of the left to come down the pike since Sean Hanitty went national.

Beck’s defiant demeanor stems from a libertarian, not Republican, streak that infiltrates every school of thought that he present to his viewers and listeners. He has a tendency to throw a monkey wrench into policies that detract from the principles which founded our nation. He uses a rarely referred to document these days, the U.S. Constitution, to point out the problems with contemporary governance in America.

This frustrates many Obama fans and loyalists who disdain any comparisons between President Obama’s liberal socialist policies and actual socialism. So much so that when Glenn Beck became a hit and unattracted an unprecedented number of viewers for his time slot, the liberal media organized itself into a full court press attack on him. At one in April, when Beck’s popularity was first confirmed on the radar, liberal newspapers ran hit pieces on him for weeks.

This was a stark contrast to Lefty media critics who gushed about MSNBC’s boldness at giving a liberal lesbian in Rachel Maddow her own show. For he shallow interviews and lame attempts of humor, the public endured numerous stories of praise in periodicals.

It is clear that while Glenn Beck’s message is being widely received among a general population that is offended by the Gestapo style policies and tactics of the current ruling regime in Washington, the liberal elites have been offended and angered. But despite their disgust with the views expressed by Glenn Beck, none of them can effectively dispute his constitution based opinions and interpretations.

So one must question the legitimacy of his popular program being listed as Glenif*ck.

Will this be explained? Will the doubts about how Glenn Beck got translated into Glenif*ck even be addressed?

A skeptical community of Americans await an answer or at the very least an explanation. Inquiries in to the FCC and Optimum on this incident have yet to be answered but if they are, I’ll be sure to let you know what it may be. I won’t hold my breath waiting for an explanation though.

An interesting surprise from tonight’s Rachel Maddow Show is a new poll out from Gallup, which is based on people from each state and their political party identification. I’m not going to paraphrase or quote, because if you’re really interested in the relatively short article explaining the poll and its results, just click over to it here at the Gallup site.

There are some results which do surprise me though:

• The results from this poll are very similar to those of last year.
• Texas, where I’ve lived for so long, and Kansas, my home state, both of which are traditionally conservative and vote Republican, now show a competitive balance in party association.
• Oklahoma, which had no (yes, that’s zero) county give a majority of its votes to President Obama in the 2008 election is shown as leaning Democrat.
• Only five states are shown as strong Republican or leaning Republican.

One thing to note is that according to the article, the survey was taken of adults 18 or older, not necessarily voters.

If you like politics and demographics, take a look and check out where your state and the country stands politically, at least, based on this survey.

I visited The Huffington Post this morning and a quick review of its site reflected what seems like the media’s increased interest in giving a platform to the racists and lunatics that have cropped up since President Obama’s election. Now mind you, these folks have always been here: hovering around the fringes, locking their car doors when you walk down the street, clutching purses when a brother steps on the elevator, asking if you work here or quietly assuming that the reason you’ve accomplished certain milestones is because someone gave you the answers to the test.

Last week, as I luxuriated (for work purposes!) in one of Southern California’s beautiful beach communities, I watched Pat Buchanan spew forth angry, inaccurate and highly offensive statements about Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor and the overall contribution (or his perceived lack thereof) of minorities to America. Buchanan’s hateful and presumptive assumptions about Judge Sotomayor’s intellect and blatantly racist comments got the Twitter world into a tizzy, as people from all walks of life posted comments about his KKK-inspired rant.  

For me, what’s even more shocking than Buchanan’s statements -because it really is no secret where he stands on race in America – is that MSNBC continues to give him air time and prominence as a commentator. After all, he’s just crazy old Uncle Pat, and it’s ok because we all have that crazy uncle who regularly spouts racist rhetoric, right? Yet Buchanan’s continued defense of Sarah Palin’s lightweight and now incomplete acccomplishments, and support of her as a viable candidate for president, highlight that Buchanan’s politics are singularly racial.

I’m all for giving platform to opposing opinions. It’s one of the reasons that I don’t limit myself to one network or website for my news source, that I listen to Michael Smerconish in the morning (he admirably offers great balance on the issues he discusses, even though his audience is heavily and rigidly conservative),  and that I like to talk to strangers about their belief  systems. You have to step out of your bubble to get a true flavor of what people really think and feel.

Critical debate is essential to progress. Narrow-minded, ill-informed and divisive commentary is not. Debate Judge Sotomayor on her comments and her merits, whether she properly explained herself, or what her judicial record may reveal about how she’ll impact the Supreme Court.  You don’t have to like her, and you can go on TV and say that.  

But to suggest that Judge Sotomayor got to where she is because she stole opportunities from more deserving white men, that she made law review and garnered her legal jobs because of affirmative action, and that she doesn’t deserve to be on the bench – despite having a far more substantial judicial record than the Chief Justice himself – is ridiculous. And to warn her about her alleged temperament, as Sen. Lindsey Graham did, pays homage to that black tax reminder that once you do make it, you better remember to stay in your lane since we’re letting you up in here. 

Side bar: Another one of my black tax favorites is that once you do get in the door, please don’t try to do “too much.” Example: the current theme in the media  as to whether President Obama is trying to do too much, and whether he should just focus on the economy. Can I tell you how many times I’ve personally heard that, while the underlying directive is to work harder, smarter and faster?    

If we’re going to truly evolve in the aftermath of President Obama’s historic election, it means that we do not have the right to remain silent (for these purposes). It means that when you’re arrested in your own home, you raise hell about it. When racist idiots pollute your television, you raise hell about it. When the publishing world refuses to publish diverse thought, you raise hell about it. When your kids can’t swim in pools for fearing of changing the complexion, you raise hell about it.

For the sake of balance, I note that MSNBC does have several African-American anchors and commentators on air throughout the day. Those commentators of color, however, are not using their time on the air to rail against white Americans or other minorities, or to insert divisive inaccuracies into the mainstream- thought that is an affront to progress.  

Rachel Maddow took on Buchanan in a follow-up after his appearance, but for me it’s not enough. The point is that regardless of what MSNBC does with Buchanan, we have a voice and options. Let’s exercise them, even if it’s as simple as changing the channel and not buying from the advertisers who implicitly support these offensive thoughts. Let’s use these options to push for more balance, and to create alternative platforms that give air to both sides and actually educate. 

It also means that we hold our own accountable, because when they do or say things in the mainstream, like performing ”Every Girl” on stage with underage girls, it furthers the stereotypes of African-Americans generally. Those stereotypes that fuel, and in some minds, support Pat Buchanan’s lunancy. 

Below is your morning round up of what ”post-racial” American looks like. I don’t cite these headlines from HuffPo’s site to sensationalize the problem, but, rather, to illustrate that we’re far from a post-facial America. So what are you going to do about it?

Mr. A-List (that’s A for Adultery), Republican Governor Mark Sanford of South Carolina was forthcoming with even more revelations about his relationship with Maria Belen Chapur, the Argentinian woman with whom he has been having an affair. It seems, though, that his current mistress is not the only woman he has been involved with during his marriage to his wife, Jenny. “Oh, what a tangled web . . .” If you’re into the details the South Carolinian newspaper, The State has the most.

Actually, I’m not that interested in what Sanford or other straight people do in bed; it’s just that when so many of them give out this “holier than thou” attitude, laying it on thick about the sanctity of marriage and how gay marriage and homosexuality are just about the worst thing that anyone could be part of, you want to sit there and say, “Hey, Sluggo, maybe you might want to re-think your position on love and who can love whom, and maybe your love isn’t really any different than anybody else’s love.” (Wow, that was a long sentence; I got to take a breath myself.)

South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford, another one of the "A-List" Republicans

“Lost” Governor Mark Sanford of South Carolina has come back to the States from Argentina, and upon his return admitted to having an affair with an Argentinian woman whom he had met some eight years ago.  This is the same Republican governor who made such a big fuss over the stimulus package and didn’t want to take money for his state, which in the end the state legislature accepted.

We probably should start making some tick marks on the calendar to see how many weeks in a row, these Republican big-wigs are going to “come out” admitting to breaking some biblical rule.  It was just last week that U.S. Senator John Ensign admitted to having had an affair with an employee, who was also the wife of one of his top aides.

These types are the same ones who rail against gay marriage and espouse the “sanctity of marriage”. 

Just once I’d like to hear from any of the bible-beater and have them show where that book says there is anything wrong with love, either gay or straight.  What I don’t understand is where they get all so quiet and seem like the shyest little girl in the corner, when one of these conservative Republicans breaks one of the 10 commandants from their own holy book.  I mean, one of the 10 commandments, that’s should be like really a big deal, but they’d rather go on harping, campaigning, and spending money trying to tear down gay people based on a few debateable verses.

John Ensign, Republican Senator

The situation surrounding the admitted affair of Nevada Republican Senator John Ensign is getting even more damaging for Republicans.

Doug Hampton, the husband of the woman who was involved with Ensign, says he wrote a letter to that favorite network of the right, Fox News, informing them of the affair and asking for their help. Both Hampton and his wife Darlene had worked for Hampton, and their 19-year-old son had also been given a job during the affair.

In the letter, Hampton also said that Hampton’s roommate, Republican Senator from Oklahoma, Tom Coburn, knew about the affair. (Please tell me–why do U.S. Senators need roommates?)

Fox News claims that they didn’t get a letter from Hampton, but strangely enough, it was not soon thereafter that Ensign publicly admitted to the affair.

Ensign’s Republican colleagues are saying nothing more than it’s a private situation and they feel so sorry for his family.

What short memories they have! How much time and taxpayers’ money did the Republicans in Congress spend trying to force President Clinton out of office after the Lewinsky revelations? For months on end, basically all other congressional work stopped so that they could force every little detail out. But now with Ensign, they want only to say, “It’s a personal situation.” What hypocrites!

One of those giving support to Ensign is beleaguered Governor of Nevada, Jim Gibbons, who is in the process of divorcing his wife. The Las Vegas Sun says this about Gibbons’ response to Ensign’s admission:

Ensign’s admission comes on top of a string of disclosures and allegations about Gibbons. Since his election in 2006, Gibbons has been accused of sexual assault, sending love notes on a state phone and improperly firing a state employee. In recent court documents related to divorce proceedings, his wife, Dawn, accused him of a history of infidelity.

This is the same Gibbons who recently vetoed a domestic partners bill in Nevada. Fortunately, the Nevada Senate was able to override Gibbons’ veto.

Aren’t these two Nevada Republican politicians the true posterboys for the sanctity of marriage? How many more closet doors will be cracked open before people realize the true hypocrisy in the actions and words of these leaders of the so-called “moral” Grand Old Party.

John Ensign, Republican Senator

Interesting, interesting, interesting. Don’t those Republicans just personify the “family values” they so glowingly espouse. (Thanks to The Rachel Maddow Show and the Las Vegas Sun for this one.)

A couple of days ago, Senator John Ensign, the Nevada Republican, admitted to having an affair with the wife of one of his top aides. Yes, interesting, because Ensign was one of the Republican senators who had called for President Clinton to resign after the Monica Lewinsky affair. This same “forgiving” senator also had demanded that his fellow Republican senator, Larry Craig from Idaho, resign after he was arrested for trying to do some hanky panky with an undercover cop in a restroom in the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Up to now, though, Ensign himself has only found it fit to step down from a senate committee chairmanship.

Since Ensign’s admission of his breaking the 7th commandment (wonder why he didn’t say it that way?), it has come to light that the woman with whom he was having this affair was also on his payroll, but even worse (great for her I suppose), her pay was doubled in both of the two jobs that she had as his employee. (Now it sounds like it was really three.)

What’s even more gob-smacking is that during the same period, her 19-year-old son was being paid for doing “research policy consulting”. Yes, that sounds like something a 19-year-old is really qualified for.

So onward go these moral Republicans, who never seem to have to pay in any way for what they get caught doing. People like Craig continue in office until the term ends, feigning being wronged, liked the meadowlark feigns being wounded to distract you from her nest of eggs. Others like prostitute hiring, David Vitter, U.S. Senator from Louisiana, smile and act they have done nothing and that everyone should pat him on the back for just being a man. And now Ensign.

Well, as for Ensign, I’m waiting for these moral Republicans, especially these evangelical christian types to come out and use their holy book literally, like they always do when they try to condemn gay people and homosexuality.

I mean here it is:

( Leviticus 20 verse 10 and Deuteronomy 22 verse 22). Moses had said both the adulterer and the adulteress had to be stoned. Where was the adulterer? Where was the man that had been found in the very act of committing adultery with the woman? Why had they not brought the man to be stoned together with the woman according to the law of Moses? Both adulterer and adulteress caught committing adultery had to be stoned according to the law of Moses. To stone the woman alone would have been wrong. (Here’s my source, in case somebody wants to mess with me.)

No, these hypocrites only want to use their morality and their religious beliefs, and their literal use of the bible when it suits their purpose. So, of course, they are not going to say anything against people like Craig, Vitter, or Ensign.

Let’s see if these hypocrites’ acts can somehow be blamed on gay people, like, for example, “if those gay people in Massachusetts (because that was the only state where same-sex marriage was legal when Ensign started his affair) weren’t able to get married, I would never have have wanted to cheat on my wife and sleep with my employee who just happens to be the wife of one of my top aides.”

Perhaps you haven’t examined the official myth about 9/11, i.e. that it was accomplished solely by Al Qaeda and Bin Laden. Given that Obama made a claim and didn’t back it up with any facts- while admitting that elements in the US and Britain conspired to overthrow Mossadegh a half century ago- it’s kind of a misnomer to say he “debunked” “9/11 conspiracists”. And given the many lies told by Bush Administration principals about 9/11, and given the 9/11 Commission’s failure to conduct a full and honest investigation- who’s to say what really happened on 9/11? 

The 9/11 Commission ignored 70% of the 9/11 families’ questions 

And your employer, MSNBC, published a report that says 25% of the 9/11 Commission Report, including the sections most relevant to linking 9/11 to al Qaeda and Bin Laden, was based on testimony obtained by torture:

“Specifically, the NBC News analysis shows 441 of the more than 1,700 footnotes in the Commission’s Final Report refer to the CIA interrogations. Moreover, most of the information in Chapters 5, 6 and 7 of the Report came from the interrogations. The 9/11 Commission is also based in part on the testimony of interested parties who made false statements and whose testimony is contradicted by facts, the testimony of more credible witnesses, and even by their own statements; Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld, Gen. Also search the profiles of whistleblowers the 9/11 Commission ignored- like Sibel Edmonds, Behrooz Sarshar, Robert Wright and Coleen Rowley (Time Magazine 2002 Person of the Year) 

You had Brzezinksi on your show- why don’t you interview Sibel Edmonds? The ACLU has dubbed her “the most gagged person in US history”; Ashcroft even classified her date of birth- he claimed “state secrets” and the need to protect “certain foreign business relations”:

Jonathon Turley told it like it is last night on Rachel’s Show. Although, I believe the morph happened long ago… the more days this man spends in the Whitehouse, the more it resembles the last administration.

The Maury Povich Show helps quench the thirst for personal dirt.

I had a chance last week to watch some daytime TV. I like to get my dose of the “judge” shows every once in a while; then I’m good until my next time off comes along. Even a few of the “DNA-who’s the daddy” Maury Povich Shows can glue me to the sofa for a bit.

The daytime talk shows, though, do nothing for me. Years ago Oprah might have been OK, but in that time slot, I will take Judge Judy over Oprah with or without the exclamation point.

Last Friday, my flipper finger did pause a bit and left The Ellen Degeneres Show stay on for a moment. As I said, I’m not really into daytime talk shows, not even Ellen. She’s funny as a comedian, but her talk show, even the dancing, doesn’t make me want to watch. I really haven’t seen her for maybe six months, so what has happened to her look? Why is she wearing all that makeup? Actually, she looks like Twiggy’s twin–today’s Twiggy, not the young Twiggy of the 1960s. All that makeup and pixie haircut on Ellen just doesn’t fit her personality. And it makes her look old.

Is somebody telling these high-profile lesbians that they need to “priss up”? I mean everybody knows Ellen Degeneres is not the lipstick lesbian in that family; her other half is Portia de Rossi after all!

And just now I was watching MSNBC, and there was another “not a lipstick lesbian” Rachel Maddow with her eyes all mascaraed up, cheeks blushed out, and lips over-evident with gloss. I watched The Rachel Maddow Show just last week and her makeup wasn’t shouting out through the TV screen.

I have nothing against makeup, but it needs to be done right and be appropriate for the person. I don’t see that with Ellen and Rachel.

Greek comes on at 7 PM on ABC Family.

Monday night two of my favorite shows are on; unfortunately, they start at the same time. The Big Bang Theory on CBS has become absolutely my favorite half-hour comedy show. I suppose there’s something in me that can identify with all of the “nerdliness”. Greek starts at 7 PM (CDT) also, but is an hour-long show focusing on college life, not so much on the study side, but more on the party/relationship side. In Greek on ABC Family, Calvin (played by Paul James, is an out gay fraternity brother, but so far this season, the story lines have given little focus to him. Loyal viewers have been left waiting for any kind of relationship for Calvin to begin.

When it comes to relationships, this past Sunday’s episode of my favorite show, Brothers and Sisters over on ABC had almost all of the romantic relationships ripping apart. The most stable relationship is that of Scotty (Luke MacFarlane) and Kevin (Matthew Rhys), despite last week’s reappearance of Kevin’s hot, ex-boyfriend Chad (Jason Lewis) and the big lip-smacker that he laid on Kevin on their encounter in the street. Actually, there are so many loose ends in the show that it makes one wonder how many of them will be tied up before the season finale, or whether we’ll be left hanging on many fronts over the summer.
