Divers -

Checking out this new music search engine called Just Hear It and it’s looking great! I’m happy cause so many of these sites are seeing the light of day these past months and most of them just don’t cut it. Simplicity and soberness are the words of the day and Just Hear It couldn’t be easier of use (and it’s legal – they’re paying licensing fees to ASCAP, BMI and SESAC).

Type in a song or artist

List of tunes appears

Double click on song to load it in player

Add song to playlist by dragging or by pressing one single button

That’s what Just Hear It allows us to do and that’s about all that needs to be done. I couldn’t ask for less.

Well actually there is more to Just Hear It than just that like sharing links to your songs, and they seem to have some plans for the future. But still, I can’t stress this enough: the fastest way for for us to find and consume what we’re looking for is the best way and Just Hear It seems to have understood that (reminds me a lot of how the old RadioBlogClub used to work, but only better).

They are still in a invite-only private beta phase but you can still browse through songs and create playlists if you don’t have an account.

For some time now I have wanted to post an article on all the streaming music websites I use as an excuse not to buy CDs anymore. Mruff!

Stumbleaudio: Just discovered this one today. It’s a Stumbleupon for indie music. Users can ‘thumbs up/thumbs down’ the songs so as this website will grow the recommendation feature might become very interesting making up for a great way to discover new talent.

Deezer.com: My favorite of all. Millions of songs and albums for free, good quality audio and very easy to use due to simplistic interface. Truly a must.

Finetune: Like this one a lot due to the great audio quality and album artwork display. To use this site properly you must create an account, which is kind of a drag, but once that’s out of the way you get access to a pretty interesting model to discover music. You can create playlists of three songs minimum and push the ‘I’m lazy’ button. Finetune will automatically fill-in the rest of your playlist with music it recommends according to the artists you entered. Oh, and it’s got a great standalone player you don’t even have to download.

Songza.com: This is also a great playlist-based music search engine. 28 million tracks, online promotional adsense-type-model for bands and labels, they definitely have something planned in the long run.

Musicovery: Now this site you are going to use just to fool around with it’s interface. It displays music through a funky-type arborescence and it recommends music through a funky-type search module. So all-in-all you could say this is a pretty funky website, the funkiest of all. I won’t go into further detail concerning how it works, just hop onto the website to get the idea.

RadioBlogClub: Ahhh good old RadioBlog. This was the first search engine to my knowledge that delivered free streamable music. I discovered this one way back in June 2007 (seeing how crazy websites pop-up every day now, 13months ago does seem like ‘waaaaay back’).

GrooveShark: A social network for creating playlists and sharing music. Very innovative company, millions of tracks, complex playlist/sharing model, but I personally don’t use it because it’s a hassle to navigate in. Don’t take my work for it, I’m very impatient with websites and I want my content right away in an impeccable sober interface. GrooveShark just has too many features for me

TheSixtyOne: And last but certainly not least we have TheSixtyOne.com which acts as both a search engine and a social network for artists. Actually it’s more of a playlist search engine where users share their songs lists through a simple URL. There is also a sort of voting system where you ‘bump’ up the charts your favorite songs. Like Stumbleaudio, this webiste mostly caters to indie music and upcoming bands. Definitely worth keeping an eye on.

When RadioBlogClub came out I was amazed by what it offered, and never imagined that only one year later there would be 15 more of these sites. These are only the sites I use, but there are many others. Anywhere.fm lets you upload music on their servers to access your playlists from anywhere. We can’t forget Seeqpod, Streamzy, Skreemr and Jango.

All of these websites are flirting with the law because most songs violate copyright law. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depends if you try to make a living off music), as long as they don’t store infringing songs on their servers, they are allowed to offer their indexing service. Sites like Imeem and Pandora have deals with the RIAA that make them perfectly legit, but the user is limited in many respects (i.e: Pandora does not offer its service anywhere other than the US, and you can’t stream or skip more than a certain number of songs).

What does this mean for the recording artists? In my opinion, it just confirms that avoiding their music to being available for free on the net is somewhat of an impossible task. As hard as it may be for some to swallow, technology and legislation are quickly drifting apart. Everyone is tired of trying to make them go hand-in-hand anyways.

Tous les fans privés du site Radio.Blog.

After a year among rows of cubes, each one identical to the next with no feasible escape, pulling all nighters for senseless financial models and company profiles, I have a reached a stopping point.

This is the first sentence of my first blog. Deep breath. Let’s go .

Ironically enough, a new generation of fast-paced and tech savvy youth are emerging, but this movement is actually bridging a gap between age, geographical location and social class. Whether we like it or not, the future of expression and social relationships is moving quickly to online communities.

I’m an example of the bridge between the technologically challenged and the rest of the world. Despite the easy and user-friendly online tools, this new generation of tech wizards that are half my age put me, a 23-year old investment banking analyst, to shame. Until recently I considered myself quite a cutting edge and trendy consumer in the technology/media world. I have my cute, silver mini-ipod that I successfully uploaded over 500 songs onto, I’m down with the simultaneous cell phone and blackberry use and I even peruse Facebook, YouTube and online radio stations ( radioblogclub.com is my favorite) in order to stay tuned into the world during all-nighters and weekends spent in my cubicle. It has recently come to my attention, though, that my flighty efforts to understand the capabilities of internet freedom, social media and online networking are, for lack of a better word, pathetic.I am a people person, I like real live Sunday “brunching” and coffee breaks, but I think that all this talk of blogging, social media networking and online communications are going somewhere. I want to find out how it’s relevant to me. Mona and I are going to leverage our intrigue on this topic (yes, that’s right, “leverage”) to follow our passions. Despite the money and security of an investment banking job, I think we both know we will always regret not giving this a shot. So, read us. We promise to provide frequent anecdotes that shed light on our “Wall Street dream jobs” ( a.k.a living the dream) and share with you our countdown til bonus and the beginning of a journey towards technological entrepreneurship.

To rewind back a little bit, my sudden burst of self-expression was inspired by a chance meeting with Jeff Pulver, a pioneer in the field of internet telephony and the founder of the Voice on the Net (VON). My partner in crime, Mona, and I were on the Delta Shuttle to our final round interview at Bulge Bracket Bank “X”. Having never met before, we were awkwardly, but diligently, testing each other on our finance skills for our Superday interviews the next morning. We were interrupted by Jeff who inquisitively asked, “so, you two want to be investment bankers? But what if you could do anything in world, what would you do”?

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Mona:

There’s nothing like being on a plane to bring you back to earth. You never know where a random meeting will take you, which friendships you will make, or who you might take with you when you land.

But ever since my debut as an accidental investment banking analyst, my love for flying has been redefined. I now look forward to traveling, not for the people, but for the rare moment that I can turn off my blackberry, turn off my cell phone, and go to sleep. In fact, from the banker’s perspective, it is not only a rare opportunity to leave work behind, but usually a privilege. Well… after about a year of 2 and 3am nights every night, I’ll take any opportunity to sleep that I can get… So as you can imagine, I was pretty annoyed when the kid next to me on my flight from Chicago to New York last week didn’t seem to understand my newfound affinity for sleep.… The initial conversation only made matters worse as he flipped through his iPod, insisting that I sample his favorite collection of songs. As I quickly realized I wouldn’t be able to escape the conversation, I decided to make the most of it. He told me about his job as an electrician and his passion for building. I of course used the opportunity to talk about how many hours I work.

We talked about what got us where we were. He didn’t go to college; I went to an elite private school in the northeast. I asked him if he wanted to go back. He told me he hated school. I asked him why, and he told me he just wanted to live the American dream.

I didn’t understand. I had to ask: What is the American dream?

He explained to me that he wanted to be happy, have a reasonable salary, a perfect family, and a black picket fence (the black picket fence because he wanted to be different). He didn’t need college for any of it.

I looked at him blankly, “You and I have been taught very different American dreams! I thought the American dream was that if you work hard enough, you can get whatever you want.”

He looked back at me. Also blankly, “Is that why you work so much?”

The kid had a point.

… But for some reason, it’s not working out quite as well as I expected. I’m working hard… inhumanely hard… but where are all the things that I wanted? Have I completely lost sight of everything I thought I wanted to begin with?

… So here I am, writing my first blog at 3:45 AM and the countdown to next year’s bonus begins —- 234 days to be exact.

where the hell do i start well first of all THIS WEEK WAS A PILE OF HORSE SHIT AND PISS. okay well first of all my ex called me on wednesday for the first time in MONTHS. I was finally getting over him and he had to fucking fuck it all up. he asked me to be his girlfriend again, first of all why the fuck would you ask someone to go back into a relationship when you don’t have the fucking time for a relationship because you’re too busy being a shady ass mother fucker? Second, why the hell did he call me out of no where? is he just realising that no one wants him? I mean i am SO attatched to him and when i was finally getting over him all those feelings came back when he called me so now i am attatched again and i’m sitting by my phone waiting for him to call me or something. and he ISNT.

anyways i hate people at work, this little boy wanted milk and his mom wouldn’t let him have any, what parent doesn’t let their kid have any milk? I mean if she would have explained to the boy why she didn’t want him having any milk i wouldn’t have been so sad about him crying about chocolate milk. i HATE parents who don’t talk to their children.

I AM SO FUCKING SICK OF RADIOBLOGCLUB NOT WORKING. i want to listen to a fucking song but it wont fucking load so i have to find it somewhere else. that is so fucking gay. I hate happy people, i am jealous of happy people, i was listening to avril lavigne and her new album about how fucking great her marriage is and shit, its all happy and shit. i hope she goes bald.

i don’t really have anything else to rant about.
