After the shocking ordeal with her con artist ex-boyfriend (Raffaello Follieri) last year, Anne Hathaway finally looks happy!  The Oscar-nominated actress was recently spotted in Hollywood Hills with new boyfriend, Adam Shulman, a 28 year-old actor.  They were reported to have met through mutual friends.  I don’t have anymore 411 on Adam but a guy who makes you laugh like that is a keeper! 

Anne Hathaway split from her love of five years — the now-incarcerated Raffaello Follieri – this past June. Anne has told Vogue magazine that the relationship was over before Raffaello was arrested.

“I was a 21-year-old kid when I met him. It wasn’t a huge, dramatic breakup. We were in the process of winding it down when he was arrested. I don’t talk about this, except when I’m asked. It’s not a part of my life anymore.”

The fallout from what happened with Raffaello has created a burden on Anne’s shoulders.
“It’s a complicated situation that has the ability to define me in ways I am not comfortable with,”

“This is harder than I thought. I haven’t done this yet. I don’t know how I want to look when I lounge around.”

I don’t know when this interview was actually done but I hope she hasn’t waited 6 months to figure out what to wear when hanging out. That would definitely be a bit odd. It also speaks volumes as to how Anne let a man define her by what she wears. Does anyone wear what their boyfriend or husband tells them to or do you choose your own clothes.

NEW YORK (AP) — Italian con man Raffaello Follieri, who went from dating actress Anne Hathaway to serving a prison term for fraud, isn’t enjoying the “unspeakably unsanitary” conditions at a federal jail in Brooklyn.

The proceeds supported a playboy lifestyle that included a $37,000-a-month Manhattan apartment and lavish vacations with Hathaway. The couple dated for four years.

DWTS: Was there some poor sportsmanship at last night’s elimination?  After Maurice Green got the ax, the audience burst out into cheers.  And that was audience consisted of teens happy that hottie Cody Linley was still in the game.

Raffaello Follieri: Anne Hathaway’s ex wants to change prisons because the jail he’s in now is too “unsanitary.”  What, you thought you were going to a country club?

Joe Jonas: Poor Taylor Swift!  Not only did the Jo Bro dump her in such a we-must-still-be-in-high-school way, but he’s also already moved on!  Sketch!

Brad Garrett: Everybody doesn’t love Brad.  Or the papparazzi.  The result: a criminal investigation into battery.  Oh boy.

How do you solve a problem like Raffaello? Well, you give him 4 and a half years in an American slammer to think about how naughty he was and to learn how to speak English for starters. Poor Raffaello Follieri got busted for fraud big time (devil  wears jumpsuit). See, involving the Vatican is technically a big no no in Italy and dragging Anne Hathaway into it is even a bigger no no in America. Described as a “sophisticated scam artist” the Italian businessman lived the high life as he scammed and lied his way to other people’s money,flashing a fake letter from the late Pope John Paul II to the disbelievers (the guy was good!).
He used the Vatican connection (nephew of a Cardinal) to mislead investors and he used Hathaway to get on the Hollywood A-list. Follieri pleaded guilty to one count of conspiring to commit wire fraud, eight counts of wire fraud and five counts of money laundering in the hope that the judge would be lenient. Judge didn’t buy it. Hmm, seems he wasn’t impressed with the “The road to hell is paved with good intentions” speech either. God only knows what he thought of the photo of Follieri and the Pope that his lawyer sent to him too! But we do know the judge handed down a 4 and a half year sentence to the fraudster.  If he only lived in Genovia he could have gotten Queen Clarisse Renaldi to get him out of this mess. After he completes his jail term he will be deported to Broke back mountain ( a small crevice in Foggia me thinks!).

Anne Hathaway’s ex-boyfriend/con man was sentenced today. He pleaded guilty to in September to 14 counts of of wire fraud, money laundering and conspiracy. In Manhattan court today, he received his sentence of 4 1/2 years in prison.

Through an interpreter, Follieri delivered a statement, in which he said, “The most important thing I want the court to know is I was not raised with bad values. … I started off with good intentions, determined to run an honorable business and make everyone proud of me.”

But, he admitted, “What I did was wrong and there is no point in making excuses. … I will never be able to wash away the shame. … I just hope that someday those who have been hurt by my actions will forgive me.”

His next hearing is set for December 12th.

Anne Hathaway stopped by The Late Show with David Letterman to promote her new movie, Rachel Getting Married.  On her way into the show, Anne stopped to pose for photographs and signed for autograph seekers, including several photos for TopPix Autographs.

Anne was much more willing to sign than her previous promotional trip to New York.  Last time she was in town, the money laundering scheme involving her now ex-boyfriend, Raffaello Follieri, had just been made public.  Needless to say, Anne was in a much better mood this time around.

Anne Hathaway appeared on the David Letterman Show in NYC yesterday, looking stunning as always.

Looks like she got a little embarassed when Letterman quizzed her about her 30-year old ex-boyfriend, conman Raffaello Follieri.  He was arrested on suspicion of fraud this past June, and pleaded guilty to 14 charges just three months later.

I’m sure she’ll get a chance to have some cathartic closure this weekend though, when she’ll be hosting Saturday Night Live.  You can bet I’ll be tuning in to THAT!

The other day I linked to a photo that shows Senator John McCain spending his 70th birthday with Raffaello Follieri — con-man extraordinaire — and Follieri’s then-girlfriend Anne Hathaway (Gasp! A celebrity!).  Some people, including The Nation, have suggested some kind of “ties” between John McCain and this now-convicted criminal.

Although I support Barack Obama, I am nothing if not fair and impartial.  Thus, let me say two things in Senator McCain’s favor on this.

First, to suggest that John McCain would ever knowingly associate with anyone who would take innocent people’s money in order to benefit private overseas interests is simply beyond the pale.  The man is an American Hero.

Second, there is a far more innocent and logical explanation for this picture:  John McCain simply forgot how many houses he owned and thought he was boarding one of his houseboats.  It’s a common mistake.  People do it all the time.

“. . . And Anne Hathaway will love you . . . at least until the Feds realize that you’re not actually a successful person.  But until then, even John McCain will hang out with you.”

Ooh, exciting! The connection? Well Anne Hathaway’s criminal boyfriend shares a Washington lobbyist BFF with John McCain. The lobbyist? Rick Davis, John McCain’s sleazy campaign manager. Rachel Maddow (yes!) reports:

McCain Boarding a Luxury Yacht

Presidential candidate, Senator John Mc Cain has been reported to have been on a luxury yacht in Montenegro near Kotor, Croatia last year. In fact reports are that Mc Cain went aboard no other than Raffaello Follieri’s yacht charter the very day after Follieri plead guilty to multimillion dollar fraud.  The super yacht involved is a beautiful 1979 Feadship luxury motor yacht called Celine Ashley.  More detailed pictures of the yacht are below.

THE NATION (nation.com), considered the oldest US weekly, and which considers itself as a “forerunner of the leftist policies”, ran the McCain Story and photograph.  Here’s what they said:

“In the photograph, taken in Montenegro at the end of August, McCain is shown boarding the yacht ramp towards the smiling Follieri and Hathaway. Just ahead of McCain and shaking hands with Follieri appears to be Rick Davis—McCain’s top aide and now co-manager of his campaign, who accompanied him on the trip and advised the government of Montenegro. A few months after McCain’s yacht party, Follieri strengthened his ties to McCain’s orbit by retaining Rick Davis’s well-connected Washington lobbying firm, Davis Manafort, and offering Davis both an investment deal and help in securing the Catholic vote for McCain’s presidential bid.”

It is also reported that this photograph showing McCain in late August, 2006, celebrating his 70th birthday aboard the luxury yacht.  The megayacht had been chartered by Raffaello Follieri and his a list movie star girlfriend Anne Hathaway.

In the current edition of Vanity Fair, Michael Schnayerson reportes that Follieri rented the charter yacht Celine Ashley for the whole month of August 2006 in the Mediterranean.  Also, Montenegro’s leading daily newspaper, Vijesti, earlier said that during John McCain’s visit in 2006 he celebrated with birthday cocktails and sweets aboard the Celine Ashley luxury yacht.
