In celebration of Filipino Artisanship, CITEM unveils “Manila Wear.”  It will be led by international designer Josie Natori herself, it will showcase unique and beautiful masterpieces designed by 20 noted Filipino apparel and accessories designers.

Manila Wear unveiled the creations of the designers during Manila FAME’s “Manila Night” last March 14, 2012 at the SMDC Grand Showroom.  Manila Night is an event exclusive for it’s buyers and special guests.

One of the night’s highlights was the Manila Wear Fashion show featuring the designs from noted Filipino fashion designers.

Well-known apparel designers’ Rajo Laurel, Dennis Lustico, Jojie Lloren, Inno Sotto, Cesar Gaupo, JC Buendia, Randy Ortiz, Joey Samson, OJ Hofer and Vic Barba showcased their creations during Manila Night.

Manila Wear also featured fashion accessories designed by the following designers: Joel Escober, Joyce Makitalo, Maco Custodio, Arnel Papa, Lulu Tan-Gan, Gerry Sunga, Jun Artajo, TC Alvarez, Patrice Ramos-Diaz and Adante Leyesa.

Next in my list is Manny Pacquiao’s wife, Jinkee who wore a show stopper salmon colored terno by Paul Cabral.

Kris Aquino was seen in a blush Cary Santiago terno, but I can’t find a clear photo. Seems like Cary Santiago is Kris’ fave designer of the moment. I love the blush pink gown she wore in PGT 2 grand finals.

Lani Mercado in an off white terno, safe but not figure flattering. Though that metallic channel bag is a must have in every girl’s closet.

I wanted to take a better look at Assunta De Rossi’s blue terno and Imelda Marcos’ pink terno, but I couldn’t find any photo yet. Send me if you have a copy, please!

(NOTE: I was watching the Lifestyle Network a few days ago and I caught the airing of Randy Ortiz’ fashion show. It has some behind the scenes footage like model Apples Aberin preparing to go on the ramp sans make up and she was just glowing. Her voice was happy and laughing with Randy. Although it was more than two years ago, September 4, 2008 at EDSA Shangrila, people are still talking about how seminal, masterful and creative it was. I write about film, art, sports, music and a lot of other subjects, I STILL can’t authoritatively talk or write about fashion-even if I shoot it. But all fashion columnists and experts agreed it was unforgettable. Especially with what happened during the show. And incidentally I was able to shoot John Estrada and Priscilla Mereilles who was just dating at the time. John and Pri are now getting married as announced today in Dolly Ann Carvajal’s column in PDI. I hope everyone will enjoy and appreciate this old blog entry of mine from my multiply site. Pics of John and Pri will follow)

September 5, 2008 EDSA SHANGRILA—Ana Sui stole the show from a room full of celebs from the GMA network and practically all of Manila’s glitterati. Of course everyone was already enthralled by the work of Randy Ortiz in the plush interiors of the Shangri-la ball room. And she wasn’t the only one who took a tumble.

There were several near misses and slips for other models, but hers was the worst. And yet Ana showed what true poise and grace really is all about. When she went down she was all smiles. She put her head on her hand, jokingly pouted, asked an audience member to help her and stood up. By the time she got up, the audience gave her the longest and loudest ovation. She showed that it’s not about the fall, but it’s how you get up.

Samsung was one of the major sponsors

The stage background flipped and twisted like a cell phone. The fiberglass surface in the middle of the ramp may be the culprit to the slips that the models took. The clothes were exceptional and I don’t want to dwell on it. There are other people more qualified to talk about the clothes. As a photographer, I want to emphasize the faces and figures that breathed life to those designs. Most editors look for those full body shots to show the shape and the whole length of the dress from head to foot. I leave that to the newspapers and magazines. I want to show the waist to head shot or even close up of these perfect faces.

One of my favorite has always been Apples Aberin. She’s one of those people who do everything well. No wonder she’s a judge at the highly rated show in ETC network, Project Runway Philippines. Not to mention her weekly fashion column at Phil. Daily Inquirer. She makes it look so easy whenever she’s up there. How can you forget her features that seem to be both Asian and Caucasian? No matter how she faces or turns it’s a picture.

She has that rare subtlety and coolness. I’ve seen her architectural and interior photography in Lifestyle Asia. I have to admit her skills at interior photography are better than mine!

Tweetie De Leon Gonzalez is both wholesome and sexy. All the products she endorses just do so well because of her wide appeal. Her lovely tan makes her look so healthy and active. She’s also a fashion editor and writer. Tweetie and Apples were co editors in chief at one time and also happen to be best pals.

Wilma Doesnt has got to be one of the better models out there especially when she wasn’t on Qtv yet. But because of her humor, charm and hosting talent she’s just a natural for TV. People don’t know how amazing she is on the ramp. I was so glad to see her modeling again. Her smile is so genuine and the way she looks straight into the lens it just gets you. Marina Benipayo also got a strong ovation from the crowd. What makes her unique is the way she stands, her jet black hair and oriental eyes. She can be smiling one second and give you that steely look.

Leica Carpo was the prettiest face in the audience (and anywhere for that matter). Can the over achieving Leica stop at being the publisher of Sunday Inquirer Magazine? She’s a triathlete for God’s sake! Need I say more?

Ogie was recognized by Metro publishers

Ogie ‘The Pogi’ Alcasid was also snapping shots during the show. Barrie Schwortz who was the scientific photographer who shot the Shroud of Turin, called me a ‘brother photographer’. That’s what I call Ogie, ‘brother photographer’, who has an upcoming concert on September 27^th at the Araneta Coliseum.

Today, June 30, the Philippines will formally witness the inauguration of President Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III at the Quirino Grandstand. The government has declared a non-working special holiday to allow everyone to take part in this momentous occasion. Instead of the Chief Justice, the new President will be sworn in by Associate Justice Conchita Carpio-Morales. And to signal either an abundance of blessings or a shower of positivity, the PAGASA weather station has declared that rains might spoil the smooth conduct of the ceremony. Regardless, it’s all systems go for the big event.

It will be a heavy mix of politics and entertainment aside from the presence of one head of state – East Timor President Jose Ramos-Horta – and high-level representations from the diplomatic community. Celebrities who have openly supported the new President’s candidacy will be in attendance, led by singer Ogie Alcasid who composed a song – “Bagong Pilipinas” (New Philippines) – along with Noel Cabangon and to be performed by some of the country’s top singers such as Regine Velasquez, Gary Valenciano, Christian Bautista and Jed Madela. And by the way, international singing sensation Charice will be singing the Philippine National Anthem together with the world-renowned UP Madrigal Singers and the Kilyawan Choir.

Of course, President Noynoy’s equally-famous sisters – Ballsy, Pinky, Viel and Kris – will be donning their simple but elegant yellow Philippine ternos courtesy of designers Paul Cabral, Randy Ortiz and JC Buendia. They will also be joined by the Presidential Girlfriend Shalani Soledad who will come in a Rajo Laurel.

Right after the inauguration, President Noynoy will conduct his first meeting with his newly-appointed cabinet members which include DLSU President Bro. Armin Luistro (Dept. of Education), Commission on Human Rights Chair Leila de Lima (Dept. of Justice), QC Administrator Paquito ‘Jojo’ Ochoa, Jr. (Executive Secretary), Dinky Soliman (Dept. of Social Welfare and Development), Alberto Romulo (Dept. of Foreign Affairs), Cesar Purisima (Dept. of Finance), Florencio ‘Butch’ Abad (Dept. of Budget) and Makati Business Club’s Alberto ‘Bertie’ Lim (Dept. of Tourism).

But it doesn’t end there. Tonight, an inaugural concert and street party will be held at the Quezon Memorial Circle to cap the special day. Supporters have been egging President Noynoy to do a song-and-dance number in the celebration. Methinks he will give in to half of the request and sing one of his favorite ditties during the proceedings. Besides, there will be so many celebrities joining the party and it is likely to last till early dawn.

It’s going to be a long day for the country. Let’s all celebrate! Tomorrow, President Noynoy will buckle down to the real business at hand and that is to run the Philippines for the next 6 years.
